No thumbnails after server permissions problem

Aperture libraries are housed on a drive shared through Mountain Lion Server.  About a week ago, something happened to where users could not write to the drive.
Aperture runs from a user machine, and apparently had partial success saving new projects and processing older ones.  The server issue has been resolved, and everything is checking out normally as far as permissions go.
However, there are projects in the Library that was in use at the time where thumbnails are blank.  I have tried the following:
-Force generate thumbnails
-Repair Permissions
-Repair Database
-Rebuild Database
I've seen threads that suggest deleting the thumbnails manually, but was leary of doing that before asking the community for other ideas.
Other ideas?

Hi William,
Yes I understand the issues with Aperture on a Server.  I'll pass along that the issue you are mentioning is solely caused by the loss of connection to the shared drive while the library is open.  This is easily solved by telling the client to never sleep, which keeps the integrity of the connection.
I've been hosting the Aperture libraries on the server for 3 years without issue since this simple fix. In fact, it is now hosted on a Thunderbolt drive which combined with wired ethernet to the ciients gives all the clients much faster access than possible with local drives (on older machines without thunderbolt), and multiple users can access different libraries from their own machine at any time.
This particular problem was entirely my own doing.  While Apeture was open, I realized I was changing services on the server (a big no-no) which basically revoked write permission to Aperture while a write was in process.
All of the originals and previews are intact, but for some reason Aperture thinks it has valid thumbnails when it does not.....

  • 10.2.8 Server permissions problem

Ok, we're running Mac OS X Server 10.2.8. on a 350 mhz Blue and WHite G3 with 256 megs ram and a two 120 gigabyte drives for storing files. One drive is the main, the other is a backup, done nightly via retrospect. The drives are partitioned into 5 separate drives. We have a separate 40 gig drive which is the boot drive. We have have 4 different user groups that have various permmissions to folders on the file drives
The main drive recently failed, and we bought a new drive, exact model to replace, partioned the exact way. We have restored from the back up drive, but the permissions are all screwed up!!! Some folders on the restored drive are locked and will NOT unlock despite the fact that the permissions are correct on the backup drive. I've tried using Workgroup manager to make all folders match the root permissions of the drive, but that does nothing, nada zip. I tried repairing permissions, but you can only do that to the boot drive, which this drives are not
So, how do I make OS X server 10.2.8 recognize the correct permissions on a drive that is not the main booting drive?

The main drive recently failed, and we bought a new drive, exact model to replace, partioned the exact way. We have restored from the back up drive, but the permissions are all screwed up!!
How did you restore the data to the replacement drive? Were permissions enabled for the destination volumes prior to restoration? If not, files would be copied successfully to the new volume, but permissions would not be set.
Most of the time, volumes that reside on internal disks or devices would have permissions enabled (behavior noted with 10.3 and later, though). To check this, look in the Info window for the selected volume in the Finder.
If you want to restore data from one volume to another, while preserving permissions, use the Restore tab in Disk Utility, with the backup volume as the source and the required volume as the destination.
    Hope this helps!

how do I find the file and replace it or install it?

I'll reload it tonight when I get home...basically, I bought a new iPhone and downloaded some new medical apps. also had to download an update for iTunes into my mac laptop so I could access iCloud (which was NOT on my prior iTunes software)
When I synched my new iPhone with the newly downloaded iTunes, I registered my iphone and tried to "back it up" to iCloud and the message indicating that "the required file was not found or has a permissions error...." popped up.

  • Problem with Task Aggregation from Project Server with old Project Server permissions mode.

Hi, I have installed Sharepoint 2013 with all CU, and Project Server 2013 with June CU update. Later, I attached database from old Project Server 2010 database, all was OK, but now I have my PWA with old Project Server permissions mode.
After that I have created MySite with users from AD of my company, it's OK, but Task Aggregation not working. Moreover, I have not any errors on the MyTask page.
You can see that I can insert private tasks, but I can not see any tasks from pwa, however I have a lot of tasks there. Please help me.
My search works well amd WMA Service too.
Where directly crawler search the tasks? Maybe there are errors in search log with that ulrs?

    Hi,
did you setup the Work Management Service Application in the Central Administration? If yes, please check if the Applicationpool account of the Work Managment Service has full Access to the User Profile Service Application (over the Ribbon | Permissions).
Check also if your Projects are published so that you have a Project Workspace for each Project. In the workspaces you should have a list "Tasks" or "Tasks1" for migrated workspaces. This is important because only Tasks from the workspaces' Tasklist are
    shown in the Mysite
In any other cases please check the ULS Log and/or the Application Event log. Especially have a look to Distributed Cache Service and the Feed Cache.

  • After latest iPhoto update - Permissions Problem

I updates iPhoto on my iMac, after updating my iPhones and iPad to IOS 6. iPhoto than prompted me that my library on the iMac needed to be upgraded. After attempting to upgrade the library I rec'd a message that the library could not be upgraded due to a permissions problem and I needed to mix the permissions first. Ok, how do I fix the permissions in iPhoto?
Also, now when I attempt to sync my iPad or iPhones I receive an message, "The iphone/iPad cannot be synced. An unknown error has occurred - 1140", - iTunes is unable to finish the sync. I believe this is related to iPhoto since iPhoto is not even being accessed during the sync.
Can anyone please help? Since the upgrade to IOS 6 and the update od iPhoto I am unable to sync iPhones or iPad.
    Thanks,
    Sal

I just started having the same problem. Unfortunately the suggested solution didn't help. I had to uncheck the "Sync Photos from iPhoto" option to get the sync to complete successfully. Looking more closely at the sync options, I realized that they had defaulted back to "sync all photos, events, etc" - which I definitely did not want. (Must have happened when I upgraded iTunes and upgraded to iOS 6.) But - and this was the real surprise - the option to sync only "selected albums etc" is greyed out. I can't select it, whether the overall sync checkbox is checked or not.

  • Disk Utility and repair permissions problem after upgrade 10.5.1

*Problem with Disk Utility* - +repair permissions don't work anymore+
After upgrading to OS X 10.5.1 tried to correct permissions with Disk utility. But I'm not able to repair permissions, because I get this message every time "fault: The underlying task reported a fault at concluding." and permissions repair stops. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have any idea how to get this working again?

Will try installing OS X 10.5.1 again from the downkoad that you recommended. Won't be able to do this untill after the New Year but I'll let you know if this helped. I had another problem after he 10.5.1 upgrade and that was that the Security update 2007-009 also refused to install. Could this be related too the problems with Disk utility and the permissions problems.

After repairing permissions, in Mac OS X, I ask the utility to verify permissions again and the same problems are shown, as if I had not repaired anything. What's happening?

What you are seeing are messages. It's ok.. it won't do any good to repeatedly repair permissions. As long as you see Repair Permissions Complete when it's finished, you are good to go.
Also, if you see any messages that say: SUID: That can be ignored.
Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore
Keep in mind, the only time you need to repair permissions is for troubleshooting.

  • Permissions problems with 10.5 client on 10.3 server

A Mac OS X 10.5.2 client is connected to a 10.3.9 Server. When the client saves a new file to the server, permissions are user rw group r all r. The user tries to change group permissions to rw by going to the "Get Info" screen for the file. The dropdowns for permissions are active, but the user's change is ignored. If the user tries to change everyone's permissions to rw, they instead change to No Access, and the user and group permissions disappear completely. The user no longer has access to his own file. That can be reverted, but there is no way for the user to change permissions to group rw.
From the command line, it is possible to change everyone's permissions to rw using chmod, but e.g. chmod g+w filename is ignored.
Ideally, I would like permissions for all files saved to the server to default to rw-rw-r--. I can make that work from a 10.4 client but not from 10.5
Is there any way to change permissions to allow the group to read and write, either by default or on an individual file basis? Is there any way to change everyone's permissions to read and write from the gui? (NB this is only a problem for files on on the server; permissions for local files can be changed just fine.)

we are having a similar issue, we have a 10.3 and 10.4 server on our network. We have set up 2 new Intel machines running 10.5.2 both clean installs and both set the correct permissions when writing to the server.
However we also clean installed on to a G5 and Powerbook, 10.5.2 and both of these machine have the same problem when writing files on to the servers in that the permissions are incorrect (with the same problems that you are experiencing)

The Finder is not refreshing the icon thumbnail after copying.
I tried copying a couple of foders from the internal HD to a USB drive and the resulting icons kept an empty progress...
    WHY????

    Hello,
It looks like possibly a Permissions problem... the X above the folder.
In Finder do a Get Info on that drive, or the folders on that drive that you're trying to copy to.
Úgy néz ki, mint esetleg egy Engedélyek probléma ... X felett a mappát.
A kereső nem egy Get Info a meghajtón, vagy a mappákat a meghajtón, hogy akarsz másolni.

  • Lion Server Permission Problems & MySql

This is a question in two parts so without further ado
    1. Ever since I got my mac mini server last year I have had issues with permissions. Even though there is only one account on the server, the one I created at setup I am always running into permissions problems. How is it that when I install something like wordpress I am later told I dont have permission to update etc - how can I not? With no other user on the machine just how is it possible? This has been a source of frustration for some time. Is there a hidden admin account or does the fact I am running the server headless therefore accessing remotely (but with the one and only account on the machine as login) have anything to do with it? This leads me onto my second question.
    2. I have upgraded to Lion server and whilst apple did mention all the wonderful things it does they failed to mention two very important things that they have removed - wireless remote install and mysql. My issue now is with mysql, previously it just worked but now I have had to install it myself which seemingly went smoothly. I use Sequel Pro to manage MySQL but now I am being told that I cannot create a new database or edit user lists because I dont have permission - again how can I possibly not as the only user on the machine?
Any help in either of these related questions would be greatly apprecated. The Lion server is a fresh install after the upgrade fubar'd mid install.
Just to add also - I am a person who bought this server on the apple sales pitch that 'anyone can use it' so terminal commands are beyond me. I can easily copy paste commands in but I have no clue as to what they mean :S

I managed to find the solution online - this page here sorted out my problem with MYSQL

  • ADE Network requirements - License Server Communication Problem: E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKNOWN:

Oh the joy and bliss of DRM'd training material. From my Android I can access the SAP training manual, however, from my work desktop I cannot. ADE is installed, my account activated, I have downloaded a free document (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes). However, when I try to load the training manual, I get this error:
"Unable to download. Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKNOWN:"
My theory is that ADE is attempting to access a server through our proxy / web content filter and is being tripped up. I would like to view some log files, understand the network requirements, etc. in order to properly formulate a request to have our network configuration adjusted to permit this content.
ADE Version 1.x had the option to turn on logging (Ctrl-Shift-T, enable logging...) however, in version 3.x, Ctrl-Shift-T does nothing.
    Any help is appreciated!

Adobe Digital Editions Communications Error When Downloading PDF from Overdrive (and maybe elsewhere too):
If you get an “error getting license server communication problem” message in Adobe Digital Editions:

    2.  Now re-download the book from Overdrive

  • Getting authorization error message: Required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed.

I have recently purchased this MacBook used and am trying to authorize it on the iTunes Store but even after uninstalling iTunes and re-installing it with a fresh copy I'm getting this error message: "The required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed."  And I have no idea of where or how to fix this issue.  Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  I even tried to deauthorize this computer and got the same error message.  HELP!

I used Terminal to change the permissions on the folder in question.  I followed the instructions in this article:
iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization
In my case, the folder was there, so I needed the command to change permissions on the folder, not to create one.   I was hesitant to use Terminal b/c I know that if I made an error I could wipe out my hard drive or render my computer unusable.  So to be SURE I didn't make an error, I carefully copied the command from that page and *pasted* it into Terminal.  Also, before I could do anything in Terminal, I had to go change my admin password (it had been a blank password before and that's not acceptable for making changes in Terminal).  I was just super careful when entering my password or doing anything else while Terminal was open (making sure I didn't accidently hit the spacebar or another key, etc.)  And it fixed the problem right away.
What was confusing for me was that the iTunes error message said to change permissions in the FINDER, which is what I was trying to do.  It didn't mention Terminal.  What would really be helpful is if Apple included a link to a page like this in their error message.
