No Thumbnails  & unsupported setup...

I know the white boxes have been covered a lot but I looked through the posts and didn't see this exact issue supported. If it is listed and I missed it please forgive me. Here is what's happening.
First off, note that I am using a technically "unsupported setup" because I have my iPhoto Library on an external drive with a shortcut in my pictures directory. However this has never been a problem for me.
OK, onto what happened. I was using iPhoto and there was a power outage so my external drive died. I did have a photo open in Adobe Photoshop and I ended up closing it without saving and I had to "force quit" iPhoto. Now when I open iphoto I have the white boxes with no thumbnails.
HOWEVER, I have tried to rebuild the thumbnails and the database and all those check boxes when holding down command + option but it hasn't fixed the issue, any ideas?

Hi Ken,
It is supported to have your libraries on an external drive. The method is different than what you have done. You do not use shortcuts but instead copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to the external, launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and navigate to the iPhoto Library on the external to choose it to open.
When you launch iPhoto holding down the Option key this is the window you will get.
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library if that is what you want to do, or choose a library to open by clicking the "choose" button.
If you click the "create library" iPhoto will open with a brand new library for you to import images to. If you click "choose" then you will get this window.
Open library
Navigate to where the library is on your computer and then choose it.

  • Adobe Reader 9 launches 8 Standard

I have Acrobat 8 Standard on my computer and recently added Adobe Reader 9.  Launching Reader 9 opens 8 Standard.  I can't open Reader 9 no matter what I do.  I've even gone into the program folders and launched the executables directly with no luck.
Is this a setting, or a glitch?  If it's a setting, how can I change it so that 8 opens 8 and 9 open 9?  Thanks in advance.

It's neither. What it is is an unrecommended and unsupported setup.
Both of those applications share resources and will fight to the death for them. It is recommended to remove both and install only the one you want.
What happens is that you have run Acrobat 8 at one time so unless you go to task manager each time this happens and quite out of Acrobat, that is what will come up when you double click a PDF or choose the application from the start menu.

  • How to process old WLSTORE table

    Hi,
For some reason, the JDBC WLSTORE table, has reached more than 200.000 rows. For this reason due performance, we created a new WLSTORE.
Question is how to process the transations that are keep in the old and unused WLSTORE?
    Best REgards,

WebLogic is not designed to support this scenario -- but I can give you some ideas that will hopefully get you started. There's no direct way to merge the two stores together, and the methods that do exist may not be "fool-proof" in your particular use case: the recovery process can differ widely from application to application. You may want to consider contacting customer support.
Processing messages in an old store usually requires (A) the domain, JMS server(s), SAF agent(s), destinations, and store configured the same way they were when the original messages were stored (especially the same configuration names), (B) your application for processing messages, (C) booting the system, and (D) running the application until all messages are processed.
Also, if your app is transactional (eg, if it uses JMS transacted sessions or JTA/XA transactions), you should (1) copy the current TLOG (default file store) and save it, and then (2) replace it with the original TLOG from the time you system is transactional. (If your using the "JDBC LLR" feature, you should also perform similar steps with the LLR database table.) If you don't perform this step, and you had "in-doubt" transactions at the point you shutdown the original system, its possible that you can lose messages are cause duplicate messages. It’s likely too late for this step perhaps, as the TM subsystem abandons in-doubt transactions that are more than 24 hours old by default (this, in turn forces all in-doubt transactions to rollback, and is equivalent to what happens when deleting the TLOG – but the fully correct behavior would be to complete the commit of those in-doubt transactions that have already been partially committed).
If step D above is impractical, in some cases it is possible to merge messages from two stores by (1) booting the original system using steps A thru C above, (2) using the console “message management” screens to export the messages to a file, (3) restarting the system with the current store and TLOG, (4) using console "message management" screens to import the messages from the file back into the current system. If I recall correctly, the console export utility uses considerable JVM heap if one attempts to export too many messages in the same operation, also, this process will change the timestamps on the messages and likely cause the old messages to sort after the current messages (so even though the imported messages are older than current messages, current messages will be first in line.)
As another approach if D is impractical, in some cases it is possible to merge messages from two stores by following steps A-C above, and then configuring a message bridge to forward the messages from the old recovered queue in the old domain into a running new domain. The problem with this approach is that domain names and server names will be duplicated between the two domains, an unsupported setup that can lead to connectivity problems and XA issues (especially if you're using transactions to ensure exactly-once forwarding). To work around the problem, messages can be first forwarded to an intermediary destination on yet a third domain, before ultimately forwarding them into the final system. If I recall correctly, the bridge has a feature that can cause it to preserve the message-id and timestamp of WL JMS messages when they are forwarded between two WebLogic destinations.
Note that all of the above assumes that the application processing of the old messages doesn't depend on or modify database data / external data that have already been modified by processing that occurred after the original message store was deleted and replaced. For example, some messages may have been superseded by newer messages and therefore should not be processed (depends on the application). If this is an issue, then many use cases would likely require some sort of manual reconciliation and/or custom application coding to guard against old messages messing up state that should not be changed, or using current state that won't reconcile sanely with the old message's "view of the world".
    Hope this helps,
    Tom

    Shaun,
Having now read that, can I say... wow.. In 2 IR's they haven't fixed
something that they broke which is a significant piece of functionality?
Especially if this is just a snapins issue? The workaround is to use
an unsupported setup Just my 2 cents. I get the ugly feeling that this
will never be fixed and the "official solution" will be to migrate to
ZCM. Maybe you could light a fire under someones rear to move that up
    in the fix list...
That does explain it however as I know I had used it in the past and
I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong.

  • Mirroring ipad on standard tv How to get 4:3 aspect ratio

I just purchased my APT and connected it via Mini HDMI to 3RCA Composite AV Converter.
Everything works fine except mirroring from ipad to TV screen. it's squished and stretched vertically.
I know APT if made for HDTV's but we just can't afford one right now and I was wondering if anyone has any possible ideas, or suggestions as to how to get it to display correctly on the screen?
My tv is a sony trinitron kv-27s66 which doesn't have a lot of video control.
Tried changing to to widescreen but it didn't help.
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks
    Larry

As you already know this is an unsupported setup, since it is designed for a widesreen HDTV you will have issues with aspect ratio/resolution on a standard TV. The only possibility would be to see if there is anything in your TV's manual, within the limited settings,  that you can try. Note: you will be unable to view protected content and  functionality could cease at any time.

    Merci d'avance

    Hi digital_badger,
as you sure have seen in the link it is not officially supported by NI, which means to you one of the following things:
    1. You could upgrade your LabVIEW and your Report Gerneration Toolkit to Version 2014 and use MS Office 2013
    2. You could just try it with MS Office 2013 which might work but if it's not working you don't get any support from NI.
Even if someone tried it already and it worked for him does not mean that it will work on your machines. It is possible that on some of your machines it could work but not on others. Their can be a lot of problems while playing around with unsupported setups.
    3. You could leave your setup as it is and stick to your MS Office 2010.
I hope I could give you a good answer to your question

  • Unable to Instal Xcelsius 2008 Engage on Windows 7 with Office 2010

    Hi,
I having a problem installing Dashboard with the filename "14-20018-085.exe", I using a Windows7 64-bits and with Office Pro 2010 installed. Any suggestion?
    best regards,
    Le Kern

Excel 2010 is not supported with the current release of Xcelsius.
If you google Excel 2010 and Xcelsius you will see a few workarounds. The most common being to install Office 2007, then install Xcelsius, then go back to Office 2010. However you may then not be able to install future fix packs, and you will be using an unsupported setup.
Unfortunately your only robust option is to use Office 2007 if you want to use Xcelsius.
The new Xcelsius (with BI4.0) works with 2010, but as far as I know Office 2010 is still not 'officially' supported.

  • Repairing Bootcamp after resizing

    Hey All,
Just had a bad day. I decided my 100 odd gig Bootcamp drive was not big enough so I decided to decrease the size of my Macintosh HD and then use a Windows app to fill in the space, which I duly did (bad plan). This knackered my Windows side but kept OS X intact. Fixed Windows by just updating the OS and getting my files back from Windows.old. That's not the problem. Windows and OS X both boot fine, but when in OS X I can't see the Bootcamp drive in Finder. When I go into Disk Utility the drive is now called disk0s4 and apparently needs repairing when I verify it but when I try and carry out the repair I get the message "Error: Disk Utility can't repair this disk... disk, and restore your backed-up files.
Could someone please tell me how to go about fixing it?
    Many Thanks

As Bob says you are running an unsupported setup and as such it may be that nobody knows how to fix your problem.
I'm not even sure how Windows is booting at all but it obviously is. You've been lucky to get this far, I would say. It is likely that this setup will not remain stable.
What I would recommend is to backup everything you want from Windows then remove Windows through Bootcamp (if it will let you) and then stretch the Macintosh HD back to its full size again.
Then after a reboot I would start afresh with a new Windows installation through Bootcamp - this time with the correct amount of space allocated.

  • Cisco Network Assistant for multiple access

    Hi All,
hopefully this is the right place to post this.  We've been looking into Cisco Network Assistant for our "help desk" (all 3 of them) and I was wondering if it is possible to configure CNA for a shared environment..  With that I mean the application will run on a Windows Terminal Server and all 3 users should be able to access it.  Currently I've only seen it running localy and each user has to create or import the setting from another user.  This is fine until something changes in the enviorenment and that changes are only saved in the local users configuration.
any ideas if something like this is possible with CNA?
    Thanks,
    Dan

You may have already figured out then where CNA stores it's localized files - in %userdir%/.networkassistant (hidden from view by default).
You could probably hack the system by manually copying (or scripting a copy) between the respective help desk users' directories but it would be an unsupported setup.
You'd also potentially face problems of revision synchronization in the event of multiple users making independent changes - whose is the "right one"?

  • Upgrade SRM 4.0 BP to SRM 5.0 BP

    Hi All,
We are currently on SRM4.0 BP(Business Package) on EP6.0 (J2EE 6.40) and backend is SRM 4.0 app server.
Now we are upgrading the Portal to EP7.0 and SRM to 5.0, and after seeing the SAP note number 836944, I came to a conclusion that SRM 4.0 BP on EP 6.0 cannont be migrated to EP7.0
But when I tested the SRM 4.0 BP content on EP7.0 with backend as SRM 5.0 server, everything looked fine (didn't test all the scenarios).
Could you anyone give me some insights on :
    1. overall how to go on this approach
    2. if we need to move to SRM 5.0 BP, how to undeploy the SRM 4.0 BP
    3. redesign my portal content to reflect to SRM 5.0 BP
    Thanks,
    Megha.

Although your testing may have shown that some/all of the iView work (IYO),  you are heading down a risky road not complying with what is supported by SAP.  As soon as you need to raise an OSS note against a mixed unsupported setup SAP are going to ask you to upgrade.
The implementation of the new business package in line with your EP7 system should not be a large issue.  You need to go through the normal best practise methodology - rigorous testing of functionality etc.  You need to get an understanding of how the SRM system has changed between the versions  (With respect to the functinoality your project uses) and how the BP has changed in line with this.
In terms of redesigning/implementing your portal,  effectively you need a portal consultant to implement the BP and link this to exist roles... or do a fresh role upload of your SRM composites  (possible if you have a good composite design.... how often is this not the case?!) and scrap what you already had.
    Hope this helps

  • Pre Lion iPhone videos show Thumbnail but can't play - new video generates Unsupported Video Format popup, no thumb but will play via quicktime

    This is really frustrating -
Over the last year I have been uploading all of my photos and occasional iPhone video to Aperture 3 (latest version all patches in place).    Aperture would recognize the video, create a thumbnale and otherwise treat it nicely.
Now, since upgrading to Lion I find that though I can "see" the old videos in their folders or projects and the associated Thunbnale, I can't play them - I either get the spinning color wheel and then nothing or Aperture will crash and report an error relating to Quicktime (sorry don't have an error code at the moment).
If I try and export a video I can - but what I get also can't be played by Quicktime - just a black screen.  When I hit Play - the scroll bar moves, but there is no sound or video.
From Final Cut Pro X, I can imoprt this exported video file and see that it appears complete - but FCPX uses it's own playback elements.
If I shoot a new video on my iPhone, I find that I can see the thumbnale in the import option of Aperture when looking at the phone, but once imported I get a Popup telling me that it is an "Unsupported Video Format" - "Do you want to open this video clip with QuickTIme Player?"   If I hit Open then the clip does play, but the thumbnale remains a black square with the warning Exclamation Point.
I have also had some issues with Lion Mail crashing when trying to play a video made on an iPhone and sent to me via email.   Seems more likley to be a Lion / Quicktime issue then an Aperture and Mail issue - but who knows.
I spent 2.5 hours of quality time with the Genius bar this morning.  We reinstalled Lion and after that the suggestion was to trash and re-install Aperture, but that would require my disc and of coruse a trip home.   Mail doesn't seem to still have the issues with iPhone movies that it had - but Aperture is still not happy.
Did as instructed and dragged Aperture 3 to the trash, did the empty trash option, restarted and reinstalled.   Then did a software update to catch the new update for Aperture and it found that.   Interestingly when I did start it up after that it DID NOT ask me for my key - so clearly some elements were left over.
Now upon retstarting Aperture 3 once again I find that I can still see my old movies (their thumbnails show up) but I still can't play them.   The new test movie is there but still generates the popup regarding it being an Unsupported Video Format.
And it's not just my iPhone.   Video sent via email from another iPhone can play as an attachment, or when dragged and dropped to the desktop, but once imported into Aperture is once again proclaimed to be an Unsupported Video Format.
Hoping someone out there knows how to resolve this....

For some reason it just started to work now. Have no idea what didn't work before.

At this point I don't plan to use the Wi-Fi for the computer, but I do need to connect the ethernet cable to the router, then to my computer.

Will this Wi-Fi router work or will I need a router compatible with OS X version 10.8.2?

Hi, have you tried downloading it from here? Its supposed to work for the 10.8 version, though Im not sure if it will however for the 10.8.2. At either rate, you can also manually configure the router, just follow the instructions on my signature.
