No time display on DVD player

I have never had this problem in three y ears and I am so far stumped. Read the manual, looked in this forum, overlooked all my preferences and triple checked my project settings. here is the issue
I see no time display or chapter display on my DVD player when I test my DVD. I was wondering if this could be an issue in the encoding process. I did not compress the files, I was given the DVD authoring job after the editor left, and the original media was lost on a melted drive so I am told. THe only way I could do the job was to rip the elemental streams from a test DVD and use those to create a new DVDSP project. Did the editor screw something up in the compression? Or am I screwing something up in the authoring?
In the past I have been know to overlook something obvious, so please, any input is welcome, even if you think, "he must have done that. . ." don't be so sure. . .
Just to clarify, my Toshiba DVD player shows a blank time display and only tells me what title I am in, but not which chapter. Apple DVD player shows both. And the Toshiba shows both with every other DVD I put in there.
Where do I look. . .
Thanks,
Matt

Never mind, found it in another thread. Must have done a poor search last time.
(Related to next and previous jump) Like I said, I sometimes miss the obvious...

  • Saving photoshop file to display via DVD player on LCD screen

Can anyone tell me how to save or export artwork created in psd 9 to display without blurring through a DVD player on a widescreen LCD tv (100cm). Saving as a jpg is blurry.

Blu-ray players can play plain JPG files from an ordinary DVD so you may not need HD editing software to create video nor a Blu-ray burner.
If you are working with a standard definition DVD player, there is nothing more that you can do with an image of 720x480 pixels. You might consider ignoring a standard DVD player and connect a computer to the LCD TV.

  • Using dual display with DVD Player

I like to use the dual screen mode in my lectures using Keynote. Occasionally, I like to include a short DVD in my lectures. Is there a way to set DVD Player so that it plays in the dual screen mode so that I don't have to switch to the mirror screen mode?

Hi....I have a similar question regarding using DVD Player with an external monitor. I have my MPB connected to a Samsung monitor and everything seems to work well. I like to use my external monitor to watch DVDs in full screen mode, but I would like to be able to use my laptop's screen to browse the internet and type documents while keeping the DVD Player program in full screen mode on my Samsung monitor; however, whenever I click on my laptop screen while DVD Player is operating in full screen mode it exits full screen mode. Is there any way to keep DVD Player in full screen mode on my Samsung monitor while using my laptop's display for internet browsing, typing documents, etc...? Thanks for any help.

  • DVD doesn't play from the beginning when inserted a second time into a dvd player

DVD burnt in DVD studio pro, when ejected and inserted again into dvd player, the dvd plays from where it stopped the last tome it was ejected. It doesn't rewind and play from the beginning.
Is the problem in the burning settings in DVD studio pro? any help is really appreciated!

My DVD Player setting was Last option played, I changed it now to "beginning". It now starts from the beginning when I insert it again, thanks.
Another issue is that my First play in the DVD is a Track, then comes a Menu. When I leave to the Menu while the Track didnt finish, and then click the dvdmenu on my remote control, the Track resumes from where I exited to the menu last.
Is that something i can control ? To make that intro track start from the beginning?
Thank you, I appreciate the help!

  • DVD Player Quits

I connected my Pismo to an external display and am using that as the main display. I also connected an external firewire dvd burner because my DVD-ROM Module wouldn't even mount a dvd movie.
All was fine until I inserted a dvd (into the extrernal) to watch, at this time DVD Player starts up and then immediately quits. I then get the message: "The application DVD Player quit unexpedly."
I've rebooted, tried again and still get the same error message.
Tried a different external firewire dvd drive and got the same results.
    Any clues?
    Thanks for any help,
    Tony

There is one way around this that I just found and thought I'd pass it on for anyone doing the same. Under System Preferences---->Displays----> Arrangement, click on "Mirror Displays", then DVD Player will appear on the second monitor (as well as the built in LCD). Since I'm not using the Pismo's built in LCD this is a great work-around. DVD Player does not quit when viewing this way.
    Problem some-what solved,

  • CD/DVD player not working (Toshiba Satellite L875d-S7232)

I purchased a  (Toshiba Satellite L875d-S7232) on August 17, 2012 from a major retailer. Recently, the CD/DVD player will not play, or even recognize, commercially produced DVD movies. As a consequence, I cannot rent or buy movie DVDs, nor will any of the DVDs in my library work now. The DVD player in this Satellite is TSST SN-208AB.
What happens is that when you put a movie DVD in the machine, the light goes on 4 times, but the DVD player never spins up and starts playing. In the explorer, the CD/DVD icon is there, but when you try to "open" the DVD player it never spins up and a green bar goes, very slowly, across the top of the window.
The player has no trouble with audio CDs.
I have spent about 10 hours on this problem now. What I have tried followed all of the standard "fixes" for this specific problem on this specific machine and the correct OS (Windows 7 Home Premium). None of the standard fixes fixed anything.
    In Brief :
    1. I uninstalled all programs which use the DVD player, except for the standard suite that came with the computer at time of purchase. Also, uninstalled all CODEC packages that were not part of the original suite.
    2. Uninstalled the CD/DVD device and driver, as instructed, and the device and driver were automatically reinstalled. Did a full power cycle (including removal of the battery). I've done this solution about 4 times.
    3. Looked in the registry for a possible filter driver issue. There was none.
    4. Used Microsoft "Fix It" program, which discovered "a problem" but had no description of the problem or a reference to a fix.
    5. Ran the device driver update check, toshiba service station check, microsoft update check. All files are up to date and the correct file.
    6. Ran system files check, HDD corruption check. No problems reported.
Nothing done so far has moderated or altered the behavior in any way. Moreover, I have noted dozens and dozens of people on the internet in different forums with the same problem. What this means is that Toshiba is losing market share bigtime on this one.
    Any fix would be appreciated.

Hi Sense no one has replied, I will offer my 2 cents. DVD drives wear out and they also get dirty. You could try to clean it with compressed air. DVD drives are fairly cheap and very easy to replace.

  • Use screen saver while running DVD player?

This may seem like a silly question, but I like to watch the Simpsons while falling asleep.  The issue being that by the time the DVD has run it's course, I have fallen asleep only to wake up maybe several hours later and the screen saver isn't on.  So as not to burn out the screen, the drive, or the hard drive, is there a way to stop the DVD player from overriding the power saving settings?  Better put, can I get my mac to go to into sleep mode after a set period of time while the DVD player is running?
    Thanks for your help.

Don't mention it. You were the one who said the question might seem silly, and you were right. Actually, the question itself wasn't silly:
...can I get my mac to go to into sleep mode after a set period of time while the DVD player is running?
That was a reasonable question, and I answered it straight. My somewhat facetious response to the underlying situation reflected my perception that you want to have your machine runniing and sleeping at the same time, which is an impossibility on its face.

  • I-Trigue 5600 5.1 sound from my DVD player

    Hi all,
I've got a JVC DVD player which includes DTS/Dolby decoder etc and has Optical and Coaxial Digital outputs. Is there any way to connect this to my I-Trigue speakers to get proper 5.1 surround sound or do I have to stick with just connecting the Audio Out L/R to the speakers and having it set on UpMix to get pseudo (sp?) 5.1
    Thanks for the help folks.
    Regards,
    Tim.

    Tim,
Does your DVD player have 6 RCA audio output that's normally meant for connect a 5.1 speaker system or does it only have optical and coaxial output?
If the player have 6 RCA output, you can get a stereo minijack to dual RCA cable. Plug the minijack end to the subwoofer audio input and RCA end to the player.
If not, you can look at options like the DDTS-100 decoder that spots optical/coaxial input.

  • Display settings on DVD player

I'm authoring a DVD for a live show. The disk has 30 or so tracks with 30 menus. ie. track one finishes and jumps to menu two untill operator presses enter etc etc.. He needs to be able to see what menu is loaded on the dvd player display.
Can anyon please tell me if it's possible to set menu numbers in DVD studio pro so they will show up on DVD player display. Using DSP 4.
    Cheers.

I had a follow up thought about this, what is the advantage of knowing which menu you're on? Presumably it would be because you might be on the wrong one, and would like to know that. If you're on the wrong one, what would you do about it? Here's an idea:
Make each of your menus have three buttons, with the center one as the default. Pressing Enter would make it play the next video, and that would lead onto the following menu. Pressing the left button and then select would take you back to the previous menu, and pressing right and enter would take you forward to the following menu. This way you can easily get across to the correct menu without the audience knowing that anything had happened.
One important thing would be to make the left side invisible button have its remote control left arrow set to do nothing, and have the right side button have its right arrow action set to nothing as well. You would not want to have them cycle around, because then you wouldn't know for sure which button is currently selected. If you got into a confused state you could then press the left remote button a few times, at which point you know for sure that the left side button is selected, and then you carefully press the right arrow remote button to get back to the center invisible button.
Of course, if the buttons are near the edge of the video picture and the audience can't see them, then you could possibly use a subtle highlight color, and what I've said above wouldn't be an issue.

  • DVD Player has started playing PAL DVD's on external PAL display very badly

I have my Early 2006 iMac connected to an external HDTV (Mini-DVI->HDMI)
Using display options I can switch the external display easily between NTSC and PAL refresh rates.
It used to be that apple's DVD player could play a PAL dvd just fine on the display but now the frame rate drifts in and out of sync as though it no longer understands that the TV is set to 50hz.
Although I used to use DVD player all the time I haven't done so for quite some months so I don't know when this started happening although I have a feeling that it was with a recent OS X update.
I say this because a few months ago all of a sudden the same thing happened with Elgato's EyeTV, but they issued a patch sometime later and it fixed the v-sync issue for their app.
I'm also wondering if it may be a de-interlacing issue rather than a v-sync issue but I'm not sure, I've tried various DVD's.
I have tried deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DVDPlayer but this hasn't helped.
If it's relevant, my iMac has an ATI Radeon X1600
Any ideas why DVD player has started having trouble with 50hz displays and how I might fix it?
Failing that, is there a good (hopefully free) dvd player alternative which is better at handing external displays of varying display modes?
p.s this was the most appropriate forum I could find.

I suggest that you create 15-second silent audio slug that you can use to move the audio the same amount you have moved the video.

  • Hook up a dvd player on a display

is it possible to basically use the studio display with a dvd player, without going through a computer?
Why, you might think? Because my powermac G4 is so loud that watching movies in my bedroom is becoming annoying.
I am pretty sure it is not possible, but you guys solved so many of my problems in the past that i keep hope!!!
    Thx

    It is in fact.
And according to my great grand aunt, Wanda Pilsudska
(not his daughter), we are related.
    Wow!!!
I took your email, and I will try to collect some information about him for you.
We will be in contact - I'll send you an email soon, so you will have the main.
BTW, I suppose you don't speak Polish, do you? For me would be more easy to find some "ours" information. But if you don't speak, that's OK - give me some time to prepare/collect the infos.

  • DVD Player just displays static

Well, it's kind of hard to explain, but here is a screenshot of what DVD Player can look like when I try to play a movie: http://showmac.com/dvdstatic.jpg
It seems to display random bits and parts from other on-screen gui elements. Like windows and menu bars. Sometimes it's just garbage, like in the screenshot. Other times one can clearly see iChat buddylists and such, sticking by in the DVD window.
Once the "static" is in place, the "timer" will keep progressing, as if it was playing the movie. No picture though. And no sound, or fragments of sound with quite a few seconds delay.
On top of all this, DVD Player seems to hog 110% of the CPU while doing this "nothing". Trying to stop the playback can take quite a few seconds. And attepting to open a tiny app like Preview.app would take 5 minutes (no kidding).
Weirdest thing is: VLC plays all movies fine. And the issues stay when playing DVD disk images or video_ts folders. So it can't be a faulty drive?
I have tried deleting the DVD Player prefs file, and the Application Support folder. Plus running the cron tasks. Any other suggestions? Running 10.4.3.

I've 1.25 GB RAM and right now about 1 GB free disk space (on boot drive). I've had about 8 GB free at the most, still with problems.
I disabled the following 3rd-party widgets: Hula Girl (http://www.johnwilliams713.com/hula/), Flidget (http://zooibaai.nl/archives/2005/05/01/of-design-mac-and-flickr) and Widget Television VF2 (I see VF3 is out now) (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/19539)
I then inserted the Madagascar DVD I got today. And it actually plays! No idea if it was releated to the fact I disabled the mentioned widgets. I'm also running the PB hooked up to a TV now, over the usual Dell display.
When I get back home to my collection I will investigate further. I wouldn't hold my breath, but it sure would be nice if the problem was solved.

  • Jacket Picture displays in simulator; not in DVD Player

I added Jacket Picture as described in the manual. It works in the simulator (when you press Stop, the picture is displayed instead of a black screen.)
After I build the project, it doesn't work in DVD Player. Should it?
The build folder does indeed have a JACKET_P folder, containing 3 files:
    J00_5L.mp2
    J00_5M.mp2
    J00_5S.mp2
There's also an empty PAR folder in the JACKET_P folder as well.
The log file during the build shows the jacket pictures being built....
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hey Stephen!
Yes. You have to format a disc image to hard drive and then mount and play it; or write a disc first, before the Jacket Pictures display in the Apple DVD Player - most of the time after you hit stop.

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.
