No time out at Datasocket read

I read two or more Datasocket items in a FOR loop. The time out flag is set and the time out is 500ms. The problem is that I never get an time out for an item although the item is not written from anywhere. What's the problem ?

This was a design decision that was made for DataSocket a long time ago. If you read from a dynamic data item that has not yet been written to, you will get the default data value for that item. That is, you will get either a FALSE, 0, or "" as a value. The timeout is there as more of a way to know if the network is down or not.

I want to pass along a couple of tips that will get you more and better response on this list.
1) There is an un-written rule that says more "stars" is better than just one star. Giving a one star rating will probably eliminate that responder from individuals that are willing to anser your question.
2) If someone gives you an answer that meets your needs, reply to that answer and say that it worked.
3) If someone suggests that you look at an example, DO IT! LV comes with a wonderful set of examples that demonstate almost all of the core functionality of LV. Familiarity with all of the LV examples will get you through about 80% of the Certified LabVIEW Developer exam.
4) If you have a question first search the examples for something tha
t may help you. If you can not find an example that is exactly what you want, find one that is close and post a question along the lines of "I want to do something similar to example X, how can I modify it to do Y".
5) Some of the greatest LabVIEW minds offer there services and advice for free on this exchange. If you treat them good, they can get you through almost every challenge that can be encountered in LV.
6) If English is not your native language, post your question in the language you favor. There is probably someone around that can help. "We're big, we're bad, we're international!"

Hi Mayu,
here apparently the CMS cannot communicate to CBS properly and then when CMS tries to talk to CBS using a webservice, it times out due to various reasons, see below.
Strange, I always had this error when the CMS was on a different release like CBS and this caused the communication problem.
Don't you have an entry in your cms log like this?

Read Time Out Exception while generating PDF Document

We are working on Netweaver 04,Patch SP 16 and trying to generate a Non Interactive PDF on ADS Version SP 14 for printing purpose (Eg.Invoice). This extracts data using EJBs. We used Interactive Form UI element which has various sub elements like static image, etc.
We are using Acrobat Reader 7.0 for generating PDF.
The form fetches the records and prints perfectly in the Development System, While creates a 'java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed
out ' Exception in Production.
Time Out period for web service container is set to 180 sec in both Dev and Prod.

Thanks for the prompt reply. However, SAP notes 867502
and 811342 speak about PDF manipulation services, which we are not using in our application. We need to create non interactive form which simply reads the data from the DB and displays it to the users for printing.
The other 2 notes-826419 and 849851 talk about SP 10,11 and 12, while we are using SP14 for Adobe Services and SP 16 for Netweaver Java Stack.
The application works perfectly on the Development Server, but not on Production Server. Though all the configurations are same on both the servers, still can you suggest what all things need to be considered ?

Sockets - BufferedReader.read() operation time-out

I'm facing some problems to receive data over socket connection from a PC. I send data via BufferedWriter, but I have time-out error (IOException: Operation timed-out) and I can't see why it happens.

I believe I found where was the problem. I was a bit confused with setSoTimeout(), because I thought it set the limit of time for read bytes, but in fact it controls the limit of time that conection is off. Looking a little deeper in my code I saw that bytes are read, but the exception occurs the same way.
I just need to change some things because I need a permanent client socket on-line because I'll need constantly comunication with a server application (Delphi) running on a PC. I believe that I must start with changing my ClientSocket class into a Thread.

Time out while reading single record from CRMD_ORDERADM_H table on OBJECTID

Hi,
This is the problem i am facing in CRMD_ORDERADM_H.
if i search for a single record in CRMD_ORDERADM_H Table using SE11 on OBJECT_ID field, it is giving me Time out error.
CRMD_ORDERADM_H db size would be > 1 Billion records.
It is having a Secondary Standard index on OBJECT_ID.
If i search for single record with OBJECT_ID and PROCESS_TYPE i am able to get the result within seconds.
But if i take some range in OBJECT_ID and single value in PROCESS_TYPE then i am getting Time out erro.
we have index (custom) on OBJECT_ID and PROCESS_TYPE combination.
What would be the cause?

I have Versamail version 3.1B
When I select "get " for my AOL email, I receive an error message "Time out reading body"
When this occurs I do not receive any of my email's. I am able to send email, however.

ERM 5.3 Error - READ TIME OUT

I'm running into an issue in GRC 5.3 SP10 for the ERM Module. When we're building a role and get to the risk analysis step, the analysis runs (at the transaction or object level) for a very long time before it kicks back the following error:

Yes, my connectors were established per the configuration guide. The issue with this error was a result of the new connector being established in both ERM & RAR. I neglected to run the proper background jobs in RAR for this connector, so when ERM tried to leverage RAR for the risk analysis the results would time out because there was no data on the RAR side for it to return. Unfortunately this was an oversite on my part as we were migrating from sandbox to development.

I'd think for the request to have an input stream, the request method on the form would need to be post, not get. Other than that, I don't know why you've created a Servlet - seems like you could have just created a simple class that takes a HttpServletRequest object (doesn't have to be a servlet). Your jsp page is the real servlet that's being called.

Jaxrpc client (how to set connection and read time out)

I have a jaxrpc client using a web service. how to set a connection or a readtime out on the client side so that I can terminatate the service if it does not respond on some time.

Why does my Adobe Reader installation time out at 64 percent on Windows XP?
I am currently running version 9.5.2.

This "timeout at 64%" issue has been reported more than a few times here.
You can try direct download from

If you can dedicate some time and help to investigate the issue, here is what I would ask:
Before trying the link I have provided, can you please enable verbose MSI logging and try to install Reader the way you did originally - I assume that you used Adobe.com, right?
If it fails again at 64%, please find the latest MSIxxxxx.log file in the Temp folder and send it to me.

Servlet Reader time out - Safari specific

I have a jsp that allows users to upload files via a secure form and the standard html <input type=�file� � > tag.
For complex reasons I need to get the contents of the HttpServletRequest into a character array. Basically my code looks like this:

As I said, it depends on what a request looks like. You have to know.
whether the stream is emptyThat's not the same thing as getting the end of the request. Bits of the request can be arbitrary delayed for all sorts of reasons.
You have to parse the request. Or send it after a length word. Or use a self-describing protocol like serialization, or writeUTF(), or XML,...

New ipad mini retina cannot select "never" for time out period. It makes the product useless for such things as navigation and frustrating for reading

Must add the never option to the time out period or the product is useless for navigation and other purposes where continual use is required.

This should be an option in the General settings on your iPad. The option is called Auto-Lock. There should be the following options: 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, and Never.
If you select Never, that should stop the screen from going to sleep automatically. If the Never option is not present, you more than likely have a Exchange account synced with the device that does not allow that option. If that account is disabled, that option should show.
