  • Blank Tip of the day window

    Hi all,
We have an odd happening in one of our video labs here at work.  When launching AE CS3 (ver 8 i believe?) the tip of the day window pops up after the program launches, but it's blank.  This happens on all but one of the machines in the lab.  Nothing had been installed lately - and oddly was working up until late last night.  I have been googling - searching this forum and only found one entry that was on the windows side and it was deemed an OS problem - i.e. no help
Some info before I launch into my troubleshooting actions:
    all machines are the same
Mac OS 10.6.8 ( we can't upgrade any further as the instructor doesn't wan't to teach the latest version of Final Cut)
    MacPro (4.1)
Quad Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz
    6 GB ram
    OS Drive 500 GB drive
    Here's what I've done
Re-installed the App hoping for a quick fix - no go
Unistalled (deleting all prefs) and re-installed - no go
Located an update and installed (8.02) - no go
located user prefs and deleted - no go
I'm at my wit's end and no relief seems to be in sight.  I know I can't be the only one that's experiencing this - Basically we can't use the program at all once that blank tip screen pops up - all menus are greyed out and even AE's help is greyed out as well.  We're forced to force quit the program to gain access to the machine again.
    Help!
    Thanks
    Joe

Well, I work at a university - we don't have the budget to do the upgrade treadmil on all the software we try to support - we've got to work with what we have - I can see that I'm going to get no where with that type of attitude - no wonder why most universities are going to find alternatives to Adobe - just my 2 cents.  I asked a question - I didn't need to be berated by a company that we've pumped tens of thousands of dollars over the years just to say well, screw you

  • Scripting a "Tip of the day" Text Box, Requesting Help!!

    Hi there folks,
I need the help of an experienced scripter, I'm in the
process of creating a website and I need help with the Flash SWF
that will be on the Title Page.
When someone arrives on my site I want a small Text Box to show
a "Tip of the Day" or a Random Phrase in the swf on the homepage of
    the website.
Unfortunately I can't figure out how to do this and I cannot
find anything to help me in the Flash Support File either. Ideally
I'm looking for someone to post a sample script on this thread so I
can have a look at it and learn from it.
Any Help would be much appreciated!!

    A quick and dirty way:
    - In a new Flash document, make a Dynamic Text box (Text Tool
-> Properties -> Dynamic Text) on your stage
    - Name it something you'll remember (example: 'my_text')
    - Add the following actionscript (preferably in a new layer):
And that's it. This isn't the prettiest code, and hardly the
best. Your SWF will be slightly bloated because of the use of a
Button Component . Also, putting all your quotes inside the Flash
movie makes it difficult to add new ones (you'll have to recompile
every time you do) and will increase the movie's size. But it's a
    start.

  • SQL Developer 1.5: Tip of the Day Request

<p>If you have found a hidden gem or have a keystroke or short cut that you use all the time, and you can describe it in a few sentences or small paragraph, let us know and we'll add it into the SQL Developer 1.5 Tip of the Day.
<p>You can send your tips to us in 2 ways: using this thread or by adding it to the Exchange. The useful thing about the Exchange is that you can see and vote on each others tips, but adding to this thread might be easier. (Please don't use this thread for bugs.)
<p>This should be fun and useful too. The developer team can add things that we think you might need to know about, but you can add things you really use.
    <p>Thanks!

  • Tip-of-the-day in RH7?

    Hello,
I've been looking for an answer to this for some time, but I
can't find one: Is there some way to have a "Tip of the day"
display in its own window when a CHM (or any HTML) help file is
    called?
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Hi Andy
Often a Tip of the Day is presented using a special help file
that contains only tips. And your developer creates code that
manages it. But there are a few JavaScript solutions out there.
Perhaps check out the links below.

  • Tip of the Day

Having a stressful day I was pleased to see the Tip of the Day on Microwave Safety. Duly noted.
Cheers to the Development Team for a sense of humor and management for allowing it to be expressed.

  • Printing Tip of the Day

    Hello All,
My co-worker is beginning the process of learning RoboHelp
X5. He finds the Tip of the Day very useful, and prints the topic
daily. Can he print the entire Tip of the Day file? If so, how?
    Cheers,

Hi CR01. Yes there is a way of them doing this. Navigate to
the Robohelp sub-directory where RH has been installed and you'll
find a file called TIPODAY.CHM. Now the trouble is that you can't
print multiple topics but if you could print them all one at a
time. Alternatively, decompile its contents using the HTML Help
Studio tool, create a new project, import the .HTM files, compile
and then print all the contents.

  • Tip of the Day : Search within the log window

    hi
Recently my JDeveloper 11g (11.1.1.0.1) showed me a Tip of the Day about "Search within the log window", as shown in tip-of-the-day-search-log-window.png.
It read : "You can search within any of the contents of log windows. Click within the text of the window and click Ctrl+F. A search window appears so that you can enter your search criteria."
The tip also shows an image of a "Messages - Log" panel with a transparent "Search Messages Log" dialog on top.
If I try this on the "Messages - Log" panel, I get the transparent dialog. But if I try this on the "Running: DefaultServer - Log", I don't get the transparent dialog (although search seams to be possible if I just start typing after pressing Ctrl+F).
Not very consistent, or what exactly is the intended behaviour here?
    many thanks
    Jan Vervecken

    fyi
This seems to have improved in JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0 (see also log-search2-select.png in the context of forum thread "11.1.1.2.0 : log search : no match found").
    regards

    Good to know. Thanks Tom...

Hi folks.  I have some good news, and some bad news. Bad news:  Nothing you do on the Set Top Box will affect the "tip of the day"That's my software that is making that pop up.   Good news: It was accidently turned on in a recent release, and we have gonethrough and turned it back off.   I know it's anoying, and we are very sorry wemade it.  It was designed to help a user for the first time figure out how to use theXR11.  It seemed like a good idea then. If you see it again, please post to this thread and I'll make sure we turn it offquickly. Apologies for that, Tom

  • Tip of the Day for Big iMac Users

I really like the 24-inch iMac but sometimes the font size in messages and used
on certain web pages seem too small for my eyes. I don't remember where I read
the OSX tip but it is simple and works great
Hold down the "control" key and scroll up/down with the Mighty Mouse scroll
    button.
Try it..... you may like it

Actually, if you try aRKay's tip on a Windows PC, you'll notice something similar happens
Even better, Windoze has a "Large Fonts" setting for use on fine-pitch displays.
The 20"-24" IMacs and Cinema Displays are approx. 94 dpi, but most (all?) OS-X apps are setup for 72 dpi -- so, nearly ALL displayed fonts are 25% undersized. For example, Safari renders all fonts 25% smaller than the web page designer intended.
Rumor has it that Leopard will (finally!) fix this.

I recently purchased FaceTime from the Application Store. After approx. ±10 meg, the application resets and starts downloading again. I have tried to download it at different times of the day but with the same results. I have been in contact with Apple support and have tried different options with the same result. I cannot download a new Version because in my Purchased List the applicaiton (FaceTime) is still there, and because I have halted it it tells me to resume. I can’t, because the same thing is going to happen. I have tried all the various troubleshooting tips supplied by my ISP and also Apple Support with no luck. I am currently working on a IMac OS 10.6.7. Has anybody got any ideas? Any suggestion would help. Thanks

As I said, I tried everything what the manual says, but hard luck. I have taken an appointment for today, lets see what happens.
Also there is no activity on unit when I use the remote. The unit is stuck on the first page itself where we have to choose the language. The unit seems to be fine to me but the real problem is remote does'nt have activity. The IR is not responding while pressing any of the button.
    Good luck with your appointment.
Not much consolation but even new products can have issues and might need a trip to a store to return/replace.
The reason i asked about the LED on the AppleTV is that occasionally it thinks it's paired with a specific remote and ignores others - the unpair keypress I described is quick and free.

  • Here's my Vent of the Day - How about one topic/thread per subject?

I see lots of topics/threads started that are exactly the same as ones already out there, and many of those could be answered if the OP would just search what's already been said, or read generally available information before posting. And then there are so many posts for which even the OP knows don't have an answer. It's just hard to wade through all these repetitive posts to find the ones that need answers or could be informative to all.
_For instance, how about a single thread for some of these_?
How do we get our free cases
When will Apple make a hardware change to iP4
Do you think I should buy now or wait
I'm happy with my phone, why aren't you
Let's all complain about Apple, Steve, whatever
Now what was it that was said in the Press Release? (like maybe go read it)
    Face Proximity should be fixed
    Antenna Problem should be fixed
So that's my vent for the day (everyone else is doing it). Come to think of it, I'm gonna change the topic of this post to "Here's my Vent of the Day"

Keep in mind that a lot of new or occasional Discussions users are not familiar with how the Discussions search engine works & that it is, to be kind about it, more than a little quirky. For instance, even many regular users don't know that the default search box scope is different depending on the category you use it from. And compared to "smart" search engine technology like say Google or bing uses, you often need to use the arcane, 1990's era syntax mentioned in Search Tips to get good results.
Plus, users not already familiar with an issue or its terminology often have no idea how to create a good search query that doesn't produce an overwhelming number of unrelated hits.
Besides, venting & ranting are close cousins & the ToU make it clear these forms of self-indulgence are not really acceptable topics for Discussions to begin with. I'm sure a huge number of Discussions users are frustrated by all the topics taken over by such things, but {ahem} venting that frustration is just adding more fuel to the fire, so to speak.
My point may have been more clear if I hadn't somehow posted this on the Discussions area instead of the iPhone4 one, where there are continual repeats of the same topics (most of which have no answer anyway)

  • Can you build a battery for iphone that will last till the end of the day?

Can you build a battery for iphone that will last till the end of the day?

No, I can't. I've never taken any classes in either electrical or chemical engineering.
While you're looking for someone who can, you may want to try searching the forums for the many other threads that give tips on extending your battery life (things like turning off Background Refresh). You may also want to look at battery cases such as those made by Mophie.
    Best of luck.
