No titles for photos?

I finally got a 5G iPod, and I was disappointed to find that there doesn't seem to be any way to view titles for photos. I had all sorts of plans for having family photos and plant identification photos with names, for reference, on my iPod, but it looks like that won't fly. Am I missing something, or are the titles truly not accessible?

Apparently there is no way to see the titles for the photos. That's really too bad.

  • Displaying Photo Titles for Photos Moved From iPhoto

I have added comments in the 'titles' area of a number of photos. When I import the photos to iMovie, the photo titles are lost.
Is there a way to maintain the photo titles, when photos are imported from iPhoto to iMovie.
    Thanks

I found the solution, but adding titles in iMovie, rather than bringing the titles from iPhoto.

  • Titles for photos

Can I get the titles of the photos to show up on the iPad?
    If so how?
(I suspect it must be set in iPhoto as I can't find anything in iPad preferences or iTunes)
    Thanks

It's not a feature in the Photos app. You might try an app like Photo-Sort from the App Store. It shows titles.

  • Comments and Titles for iDVD slideshows

I am wondering if there is any way to change the appearance (font, size, etc.) of the comments and titles for photos in an iDVD slideshow.  I have not found a way to do this, and am surprised since it seems I am able to change appearance for the text in virtually all other areas of iDVD.  I am running version 7.1.2.  Thanks for any suggestions.

No, there's no way to modify that font or size.

  • How do I create titles for albums in Photo app?

When someone sends me photos in an email and I download them to my ipad2 they automatically appear in the native Photo App. When I tap Album they are grouped together with the title “Camera Roll” whatever that means. My question is: How to I change the title “Camera Roll” to a title of my choosing? I know how to do this in iPhoto on my MacBook Pro where most of my photos are grouped in “events” but have no idea how to do this on my ipad. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Photos that are emailed to you and saved to your iPad are automatically saved to the Camera Roll. You can not title the photos or albums on the iPad without using a third party app. The photo captioning ability is not built into the iOS. You can search the apps store but one app that I know of is called Photo-Sort for iPad. You can also organize and create folders for your photos with this app.

It's an old behaviour from some camera manufacturers (also Olympus...) which write their brand name in the exif field reserved to captions:

  • File names for photos on iPad?

How do find the file name for photos in iPhoto on the iPad?

To the best of my knowledge, you can't do it on the iPad. But after syncing, you can just click on a given photo in iPhoto and the name will appear in the "title" field in the Information box on the left-hand side of the iPhoto window.
(Make sure you have that little icon of an "i" in a circle checked in the bottom left corner next to the search bar, or you won't see the Information pane.)

  • Is anyone using iPhoto having a problem with the slide show using shatter where it does not let you put a title over photo?

Is anyone using iPhoto having a problem with the slide show using shatter where it does not let you put a title over photo? It use to work but it no longer lets you place a title over the opening photo.

Is your signature still current?(iPhoto '08, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4))    I can confirm this for iPhoto '11; Shatter will only show the text slide title between the slides. Ken Burns and Classic theme can still be set to overlay the caption and title directly over the slides.

  • Various organization schemes for photos.

The yearly organization via iPhoto doesn't help me. Many of my photos are imported from the scanner; the year of the scan is not the same as the year the photo was taken. Also I do not want to do a one-by-one date change.
I would like to have all the photos on my drive in one folder using the names I enter for them so I can search for photos by the name and not by the year it was imported. I'm willing to have two folders: Original and Modified if necessary but I would like get away from the year folders.
Is that possible with iPhoto? If so how? If not, is there another application that offers that function?
    Thanks, Alan

I have scanned in about 12,000 old photos into iPhoto. None of them has the correct date of the photo because the date given is the date I imported it. This does not concern me in the least. I do not mess with the internal file system of iPhoto outside the application.
I manage the photos first by creating multiple libraries by year, using iPhotoBuddy. You can also use iPhotoLibraryManager for this.
For example, I have now about 9 different iPhoto Libraries by years the photos were taken: 1920-1978; 1979-1985; etc with 2007 being the current one. Within each of these libraries, I have created albums with names like Family Photos 1977. Whenever I import the scanned photos for that year, I immediately drag them from the film roll to the album.
I have a film roll also labeled 1977, but sometimes I import the photos and then discover other photos from that same year that get scanned in later. They become film roll 235, but since I want them to be with the 1977 film roll, I drag them into my album first, and then drag them up to the 1977 film roll, where they are joined into it with the earlier-scanned photos.
If ther is a particular occasion that year that I want to find separately, I make another album, titled properly, like Bob's 4th birthday party, and drag the photos from the Family 77 album into that party album. The beauty of the album system is that a photo can be in multiple albums since those photos are aliases. You also can rearrange the order of the photos in the albums; something you cannot do in the fim rolls.
It is a fantastic system once you get used to it.
You don't have to worry about where the photo is, just find it in your album.
You can use the Keyword function to name the photos and when you need to find a particular photo, you can search by keyword.
If you do batch change the dates, you can do a search by dates as well.

  • How substitute iPhoto image titles for filenames?

    Hello!
I have spent many, many hours giving intelligible titles to my photos in iPhoto.
I did not realise the distinction between "image title" and "filename".
In future I will change the filenames.
But I have this legacy of thousands of images with meaningless filenames.
Is there any easy way to substitute the titles for the filenames?
Is there a batch renamer which would be capable of extracting the title of an image so that I could then use it?
    Thanks very much!

    Whoa first things first:
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
If you are running a Managed Library then yes, those folders can go.
If you're xporting as Original I can't see why there would be any change in the file size. What export setting are you using?
On a broader note: you're used to working with files. iPhoto is different way of working and to grasp it you need to distinguish between the File and the Photo inside it. They are not the same thing.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.

  • Why no titles in photos?

I would like to add titles to photos but I see you can't. That means you can't also add a theme intro if your first media is a photo. Also, need to add dissolves to black.
Good basics but need to improve for V2.
I did find a way. Make your photo a movie and then import that into a new project.

So far titles can only be applied on Video Clips, not Photos.
In any case, I really like your idea of "Exporting your Photo" into Video, and later reusing it in your Project.

  • Automator Actions for Photos

As you may know, Apple has not (yet, anyway) included any Automator actions for the new Photos app. However, there is a set available from the Mac OS X Automation web site that some may find useful, & there may be others available from other third party sources too.
If you are interested in such things, the Mac OS X Automation web site is a good place to start -- not only can you download the action set, the site includes descriptions & example workflows that should make it easy to see how they can be used.
If anybody knows of any other third party sets for Photos, I would appreciate it if you would post a reply about them here.
    TIA!

    That's pretty cool! Thanks!
Any idea why I might be getting the following output from my Get XML action? I am using the exact same information (shared secret, Admin credential, and Site URL) as for the other actions (that work just fine)...

I am trying to save memory on my iPhone 4S/ ios6.
    1) Can I back up all photos to icloud and the external hard disk I normally use for photos? If I then delete photos from the iPhone do the get deleted on iCloud?
    2) Can I back up the newsstand to iCloud and save memory on the iPhone?
    3) Can I back up the bookshelf to icloud and save memory on the iPhone?

    1. What format is the external drive? It sounds like it's ina format that Macs can't write to. Is it a NAS or NTFS?
    2. Easiest thing: just move your iPhoto Library to the external
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

I received an Iphone 5 as a gift two days ago. The first thing I did was set up ICloud for photos. Itunes would not allow me to add songs to my new phone without restoring it, yet when I did this, it deleted all 129 photos of my graduation and friends from the past two days. And I cannot find them anywhere, photo stream, ICloud, nothing. Where can I get back my memories?

Were the photos taken by your new iPhone?  If so, did you not import them off your phone to your computer (as you would any other digital camera) before the restore?  If not, restoring wiped the data off the phone and your pictures are gone.
Sounds like a good time to (re)read the User Guide.
