No Tonewheel organ or Space designer in Logic Express 9...

hi,
i read on the apple wesbite that in Logic express 9 there is a tonewheel organ and space designer. However i purchased it yesterday and cant seem to find it has been installed?
any suggestions?

Hi,
however... there is a not-to-bad Garageband tonewheel plugin availabe. Not quite as flexible as the B4 or the Logic Pro version, but I've been using it a couple of times.
For reverb, I often use AudioUnits > Apple > AUMatrixreverb. Better than the standard LE9 reverbs, IMHO. And if I need a "real" reverb, I use Lernvall Audio LAConvolver, a free convolution reverb ( http://audio.lernvall.com/ ).

Jaap

  • How can i use plugins from main stage like space designer in logic express 9.1.6

I'm using logic express 9.1.6. today I bought Mainstage 2 in the appstore. there are a lot of powerfull plugins. some of them, like e.g. space designer, are not included in logic express.
how can I use the in logic express? they are not listed automatically with all the others...

    Hi
No can do.... these plugs etc are part of the code for Logic Pro and MainStage (and not for Express)

  • Where can I find good organ and keyboard sounds for Logic Express?

Where can I find good organ and keyboard sounds for Logic Express? The included sounds seem to be lacking or hard to access.

Update: Not terribly impressed with the interface for NI's Vintage Organs from the demo download, although the sound demos sure sound good. The letters are tiny and hard to read and the whole thing feels very PC-centric. I guess a guy gets spoiled by the intuitive stuff. I think what I'll try for now is just hooking up my keyboard (Korg N1, circa 1998, about 1700 built in sounds) as a sound module and record the waveforms when I find a sound I like. I did find the EXS24 and several other software synths with some cool organ sounds after digging a little deeper. It would be good if Apple came out with another jam pack just for organs and keys, as the existing jam packs are so easy to use.

  • Space Designer 'hangs' Logic * when choosing preset

    Hello All,
    This is my first post!!
I've just purchased a new Intel Mac 8 core with 8 gig of ram - great machine and can seem to handle many plugs. I seem to have a problem - when changing a preset in Space Designer it hangs Logic, I force quit and have to reboot the programme. Has anyone had this problem? I'm using a Metric Halo 2882 dsp. It could be a setting in Audio preferences, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated,
    Phil T

    Thanks for the reply -
My impulses are stored on my local drive 'macintosh hd' - but i don't think this is the problem because when I start a new project, Space Designer works normally. I read somewhere that it could be conflicting with my Airport card - I'm yet to try it out, but will give it a shot in the morning.
    Cheers,

  • Space Designer True Stereo Impulse Responses

I recently purchased some impulse responses. I am trying to load these into Space Designer on Logic 9.1. They have been supplied as L, R and C wav files. It says that Space Designer supports 'true stereo' impulse responses, where there is a seperate wav file for L and R. But I can't work out how to load both files? Has anyone on here successfully loaded True Stereo responses in Space Designer? The set of responses also includes 'quad' files consisting of just one stereo file - should I be using these instead?
If anyone could help/offer any advice I would be very grateful
    Many thanks

If the impulse responses are Stereo Interleaved audio files, then they load into Space Designer as true stereo impulses.
Note : make SURE you create the space Designer on a STEREO AUX or channel, otherwise its mono--->Stereo, and will load mono impulses. At least that what it does on my system. They same impulse sounds very different when fed a mono source VS a stereo source...
As for "QUAD" sources, it does not support them, at least I do not think it does.
Try loading a Space Designer on a 4-channel audio track (a QUAD) track, and see what happens.
Also, those QUAD files are probably 4 mono audio files contained in the one file. I've seen these before...

  • Space designer and Reverb with EWQL Goliath samples

I'm currently using Logic 9 for sequencing.
Alot of the samples I use in recording are from EW-QL Goliath as a plugin for Logic.
Given the 'Play' engine has a reverb facility and other kinds of articulations and effects you can apply is there much use to using Space designer in Logic? I'm not sure if Play Engines is vastly superior or not.
Would it be better to simply set up the reverb within the Play engine and then record to in Logic OR record an unaltered sample (e.g. violin) from Play and then add reverb using space designer/ Logic's other reverb plugins?
Perhaps using them both in conjunction even?
I am writing alot of orchestral music at the moment so trying to decide on how to apply reverb to my tracks at the moment.
    Thanks.

This is asking for the impossible! It does not sound natural because maybe it isn't and in judging so whats your reference anyway. If you are in dire need of some natural sounding room you can go and record it yourself. But even then, the chances that it sounds like you imagined it, are very slim.
There are very decent sounding reverberation plugins, based on artificial reverb generators or convolution-style, the last one is said to sound more 'natural' then the first one. Be it as it maybe, it really is like cooking food. You got all the ingredients for this delicious taste at hand and believe it or not to reach a satisfying result this is not enough, because if you do not mix the ingredients in the right proportion you will end up with a different dish you thought you'll get. This is exactly the same when one would mix audio, I dare say.
So treat yourself to some good ingredients and the rest is up to you, namely: taste and experience!
And looking at some of my past music productions I always find the same plugins for the 'ambient' task:
Altiverb by Audio Ease when I have acoustic ensembles (classical music mostly), the Sony Oxford Reverb in studio productions, Bricasti when I have to deal with drums and MMultiBandReverb from MeldaProduction for all-round stuff. Thats the base I start from, after that I can end up with dozen Reverb plugins which basically all are doing the same thing but just in a tiny different way.

  • Space Designer preset select crash

I'm running Logic Studio (upgraded from L7) on a core duo iMac, osx 1.4.10
Selecting a preset in Space Designer crashes Logic.
Any preset does this and it does it every time.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

You've got to be kidding. It worked! Thanks for the suggestion Peter.
    So:
Spotlight off = Spacedesigner crashes while selecting preset.
    Spotlight on = No crash.
I never would have guessed that. To tell you the truth, Logic8 loads a little faster now as well. Cool.

  • Space Designer

Does any one use Logic Express could tell me if it has the "Space Designer Reverb"  same as the one in "Logic Studio 9"?  I'm using GarageBand and it doesn't support 96khz and it has no good reverb for vocal and I was thinking to upgrade to Logic express but first I want to make sure it has the same Space designer Reverb that comes in Logic Studio 9.

    Hi,
NO, Logic Express doesn't have the space designer as Logic Studio has.
However, Logic Express has the platinum reverb which can be utilized to construct some good reverb environments, too. You could also combine two or more different reverb effects into an aux channel to build a nice reverb fx.

  • Does Logic Express has "Space Designer" as the one in Sound Track?

I was wondering if "Logic Express" has the same "Space designer" that comes with Sound Track of Logic Pro 9?

No, is hasn't. You may find Platinum Reverb the best you can get as long as you don't upgrade to Logic Pro.

  • Logic crash when loading 3rd party space designer preset

I am having problems loading 3rd party space designer presets in a specific project. When I load the presets in a new song there is no problem. I would like to use the presets in this specific project, so maybe somebody knows a solution.

  • Logic freezes while loading Space Designer presets

Logic freezes while loading Space Designer presets when I am working on my template and songs. If I create 1 track in a new empty project there is no problem with Space designer.

And with Logic 8, I am stumped as to how to find all of my samples and virtual instruments that I used in Logic 7...Where is the "folder" that I drag my Sampler Folder alias into? Any clues?

  • Using Space Designer from Soundtrax Pro while in Logic Express

I have logic epress on my powerbook G4 that doesn't have the Space Designer effects plugin. On my imac G5 I have Final Cut Pro wich includes the Space Designer plug-in. If I install logic express on my imac, will I be able to use the Space Designer plugin from Final Cut Pro?

    Short answer: maybe.
Long answer: it will require using something like JackOSX or sending audio through a network or spare pair of i/o on your soundcard, out of LE, into Soundtrack Pro and Space Designer, and then back into LE.
This may result in considerable latency (which is really just pre-delay anyway, so no biggie) and may or may not work (i.e. don't hunt me down if it doesn't work!).
SD will not show up in LE if they are installed on the same machine.

  • Using Space Designer/Automation/Exciter/channel EQ / or Plug-in ?

Hi - I'm creating a piece which has piano (midi-keyboard) (Ivory ), Jam Pack solo flutes + English Horn, and EXS pop strings as background. There's also 1 min. of Voice Over (Audio) at the beginning. The music is polyphonic.
I'd like the final sound to be so that the solo woodwind instruments- and the piano -'stand out' from the mass of sound; a bit like the feeling of embossed note-paper, or having a halo of light around the head in religious paintings, but not as a really separate solo + accompaniment.
The piece should sound very 'immediate' and not like an ensemble playing far away in a concert hall. I've tweaked the piano sound in Ivory, to a very warm- though not fuzzy- one and will do the same for the flutes/English Horn, in Logic.
    It seems that I could
    1) use automation to alter the dynamics
    2) use different *reverb settings* for each instrument - I like *Space Designer* and chose one: Warm Organ Cabinet with a very short reverb time (0.4s). But then I felt that a) I'd actually like a little longer reverb b) when I tried out other reverb settings the original instrumental sound changed.
    3) Reading the Logic Manual, I wondered if the Exciter was suitable for this.
    4) or should I use the *Channel EQ* ?
Logic has so many seeming possibilities, but perhaps there's much simpler way- an effect or Plug-In which I don't know about.
Please please pass on some ideas. I'm really enjoying the experimenting but am getting bogged down.
    Thanks - as always,
    Kay.

    Hi Kay,
Stuff you might like to mess™ with, is the binaural panning function. You can both put things up front, to the back, above, below etc etc. Try the *Planar Mode* and its' (extra) parameters.
Clickhold the output slot of the track you want to use BiP on.
    This menu appears, choose binaural:
The panpot changes in a binaural panner. If you doubleclick the knoblet, you get a floating window:
If you then click the triangle bottom right, you get some extra parameters to set:
Needless to say you can automate all those parameters if you wanted to move sound around.
Binaural panning is more CPU-taxing (it is no different than a plugin) than LR panning though, so freezing BP'd audiotracks can help if the CPU's hit the red too often, even if the track has no (other) active inserts on it.
    regards, Erik.

  • Q for users of NI Komplete 5, in particular the B4 II (Tonewheel organ).

Hi all, apologies in advance for posting here; just haven't had luck with NI customer support or message board.
This past weekend I took the plunge with the $399 Native Instruments. I love it. Great sounds, etc. Only problem is, the B4 tonewheel organ will not respond to the keyboard of my MIDI controller either in standalone mode or in Logic.
It will respond, however, in Pro Tools 8. What's even more puzzling (to me at least) is that it will respond to the QWERTY keyboard, and it will respond to some of the sliders and knobs on the controller -- just not the keyboard.
I imagine there's some setting I'm not tweaking -- probably having to do with which of the B4's two keyboards are set to receive MIDI. I've read through the manual, looked on line, and queried NI, all to no avail.
Can anyone help here? Thanks in advance. The MIDI controller is a PCR 800, it's set up correctly (as I noted, all other NI instruments and other VIs I use respond without a problem.

    James Holloway wrote:
Erik, let me ask you this: do I assign the MIDI channels in the "Settings" panel of the keyboard,
Yes. It is called the Keyboards' transmit channel. In general there is no need to have it on anything else then channel 1 - except when you work with multiple midi-controllers, or with instruments that are hard-wired to receive on specific midi-channels.
If you have a keyboard that you can split to send different keyranges to different midichannels, that would be ideal. You could assign the pedal, the lower and the upper manual to different midi transmit channels and key ranges. Alternatively, it must be possible to set up an environment for it if you can't split your keyboard. If you like, I will look into that too. No extra grovelling expected.
    or in the preferences?
    No.
THere's no need to go into the MIDI setting utility in the Applications--?utilities folder, correct?
    Correct.
It's just odd to me that it works fine in PT but not standalone or in Logic.
Could you play all three manuals in PT? And what does your MIDI I/O monitor (in the transport bar) say? Are the notes coming in when you play the soundless B4?
If it would be possible for you to send me screenshots of the preferences and the settings for your B4 I'd be eternally and grovellingly grateful.
Well, who can refuse such prospect of Smithers-like servitude...?
Excellent, excellent... I'll put someone on it right away... me.
    Later!
    Erik.

  • I am having trouble using reverb of any kind; it does not sound natural, but rather "pixilated." Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I have used Silververb and Space Designer and am having the same problem...

I am using Logic Pro 9 with two MXL 990 microphones in my piano and a Rode NT1A for vocals. I have tried recording with added reverb and keeping getting not a natural reverb sound, but a rather "pixilated" one that does not sound natural.
