No transparency in my Quicktime movies in AE CS3 -- help

I'm rendering a set of animated captions on a transparent background. I need to drop them over existing video, so I need to maintain their transparency. I am, rendering them as QT movies, as animation, RGB+Alpha, millions + colors, straight: Unmultiplied. I can render a png sequence and hold the transparency, but I cannot get a quicktime movie to stay transparent. I get a black background. Can the Avid import the Quick time and key out the black? Am I doing something wrong. Importing the PNG sequence takes forever -- I have to ftp it across town and it toook an hour just to load onto the ftp site! Is rendering out to PNG sequences my only option. Why am I unable to get a transparent qt movie? ARGGGHHH!! I read on here that re-loading Quicktime might help? Has that worked for anyone? Is that the trouble? Anyone? Help?

Well, what's the settings in the Avid? By default it will invert the Alpha, you may need to invert it in the Alpha key's settings by ways of the effect editor. Also make sure to choose the Alpha in the first place. If it's not been selected on import in the options, it will never appear once the system has converted the clip.

  • Export to Quicktime movie continued crashes. HELP

I have sequence, it renders no problem. Whenever I go to export to Quicktime movie it crashes. I have gone and deleted all files associated with it and redone the sequence from scratch, and I keep getting the same results. Crash while exporting. I am working in DV, so all I do at export is export to Quicktime movie, which means it should be exporting as a DV movie. I am not sure what is wrong please help.
As always thanks in advance for reading and replying to my Post,
    Sebastian

I did try burning the 18.05GB file on i-DVD but even with the auto compression of i-DVD it only managed to compress it down to 5.4GB - too large for my 4.7GB DVD.
The only reason I need to burn it so my friend can author it is that he's a little too fussy and wants to author it on Adobe Encore.
I managed to get a firewire drive - but the blooming PC didnt accept it as it was Mac formated!
I just exported the original file as a QT movie, reducing sound quality, frame rate etc but it still comes out at 17.5GB - still to large for i-DVD (and thats with i-DVD's compression, which comes in at approx 5GB!)
I really really blame myself for this as I never really looked into anything more than the creative aspect of FCP. But I've started now.

  • Quicktime Movie embedding in CS3

Back in my go live days if I wanted to embed a movie I just
dropped QT icon in the file, then pointed to the source file and
had options right there to set auto play, show controller, and all
the other good things you can do with QuickTime movies.
CS3 seems to want to force me to use flash, because anything
to do with Quicktime requires a bunch of hand coding. So am I
wrong? I hate to have to jump out to another html editor just to
embed my QT files. I can't believe that Dreamweaver can't even read
the size of the QT movie.

I just drag and drop the file. It utilizes the <embed>
tag but that is not flash. I have not found a way for it to
automatically know the dimensions, so I"ve just learned. I use a
lot of 320x240 vids on my site so I type the dimensions 320x255
into the W/H of the video properties. this opens it up enough for
the controller. You cna play to test or just upload.
Key...add 15 px to the bottom for the controller.

  • MPEG-2 DVD or Quicktime Movie File ?? HELP!

I am finished with a ten minute video that needs to be burned to DVD with the upmost quality.
I captured and edited the project in 1080i HD.
Should I export as MPEG-2 DVD and then to Encore?
Or should I export as a Quicktime Movie File at maximum depth?
Which one will look best on a DVD??
Are these my two best choices, or is there another way to do it to make the quality even better??
I need this done by tonight, so if anyone can lend there expertise, i would be so appreciative.
    THANK YOU ALL
PS- I have cs4 Premiere and Encore
    Mac Pro Quad Intel
    Canon HD cameras

As far as I know, the DVD specification calls for MPEG, not Quicktime... so Encore will just have to re-encode a QT file (if it will even accept that format as input)
You may, of course, export as DV AVI type 2 with 48khz sound and let Encore do the actual encoding to DVD format

  • Set Transfer Mode & Transparency in a QuickTime Movie

    Greetings All,
Working with QuickTime, I would like to know how to set the transfer mode to blend and the transparency of a text box to 50 using an applescript.
    Any ideas?
    Message was edited by: johnmiller1950

I figured it out. I added the following lines when building a script
set transfer mode of track "Track Name" of front document to blend
set transparency of track ""Track Name" of front document to 50

At my company, we create images, animations, video backgrounds and templates for PowerPoint and Keynote etc.  Keynote '09 (iwork '09) and PowerPoint 2008 and 2011 on the Mac, all work.  Now we're hearing that the transparent backgrounds are no longer being recognized (black background instead of clear).  Is anyone able to check this for me and let me know if there is a workaround or something? I can't find any documentation on how Quicktime changed with Maverick or Keynote 6, so need to do real world testing I'm only running '09 on my Mac and won't have Keynote 6 for another 2 weeks or so.
Please let me know, I may be able to throw in a free subscription to our website for someone who can help me with this.

Hello all... I'm maybe a little late to the party here, but I've had the same trouble for a while with both animated Transparent gifs and quicktime movies with an alpha channel matte.
This morning I spent half an hour tinkering with the export options from quicktime player pro on my old laptop (I used QT 7.6.6 on OSX 10.8.5) and managed to make a "transparent" quicktime movie which plays in the new version of Keynote.
If you have access to the old version of quicktime player pro, you can open your transparent, previously playable file (.gif or .movie) and use the ProRes compressor, using the "4444" option in the list of compressors. Make sure the colours are set to "millions+" to retain the matte and you shoud be OK.
It works a charm... you have to re-import it, simply replacing the original file in the finder seemingly doesn't work, but you can use this method to generate a working version and take 30 seconds to re-import it into the keynote.
Yes, the files are much larger than gifs. Yes it's a lot of messing around if you're not familiar with movies. But in principle it worked for me and sorted out a whole heap of my problems.
Just for note, I've not tried exporting it to Powerpoint as I've no need to do so, or way to test it, but I guess that is a different matter.
    Hope that makes sense!

  • Quicktime movie export from Flash CS3 is skipping frame.

When I try to export Quicktime movie from Flash CS3, the
resulting mov file is skipping frames. i.e.: The movie is showing
    frame number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7, 10, 11, 12, 12, 12, 15
    etc...
As you can see the frame number 7 is repeated 3 times and
frame 8 and 9 are nowhere to be found.
The last configuration I used is 960x540, Sorenson video 3
medium quality, 25 fps, keyframe every 25 frames. 6400 kbits/s.
I tried various configurations, with different codecs and even
with keyframe all frames and I always get simillar problems.
Anyone have an idea what is going on, and how to fix this?
    Thank you,
    Olivier.

The QT exporter in Flash is honestly my least favorite
feature - not the feature itself but how it
works (or how it doesn't work in some cases). For me it is
almost unusable unless you have a very
short timeline, small stage, lower frame rate - like AS
generated effects or something - otherwise,
for true frame accuracy to video output - it is not reliable
enough and not fast enough for any real
    world production environment.
So typically for me - I love SWF2Video (www.flashants.com) as
it takes any SWF and makes it into an
AVI that is frame accurate no matter what the frame rate is -
quite incredible - enough so that I
always felt it should have been bundled with Flash (as well
    as Wacom tablets).
Harmony is an incredible product - as is SOLO and TBS (Toon
Boom mStudio) - each of those programs
are dedicated animation programs designed for output to video
    - Flash has a lot of hats to fill and
it was never really designed for animation to video even
though many of us have found it suitable
for all intents and purposes as an animation program for full
    production.
But all in all - the quicktime exporter doesn't really
deliver how we would expect it too I am sorry
to say - I only hope it works as well as it does on the Mac
(Mac users could always choose to export
to Quicktime Video but not PC users).
For now if I am exporting to video I keep it all on the
timeline or nested in Graphic symbols or use
    the SWF2Video tool.
    hope this helps.

  • No more alpha in exported QuickTime movie from Keynote '09

    Hello
In Keynote '08, I create a slide with no background (None).
I add some text with some fancy text IN and OUT features.
I export using the Animation codec and the transparency option.
When I reimport the movie in another Keynote '08 file, it inherits the transparency of the imported file and thus everything is perfectly blended.
In Keynote '09 it is not possible anymore.
Even if I import an exported QuickTime movie from Motion with a transparent background, it is not possible to have a perfect blend, all layers are opaque.
Last but not the least, adding transparent files on top of each other in QuickTime player does not preserve transparency despite the fact that the Animation + transparency features are added in the files.
    Thank you in advance.

Hey Gary - first off, thanks for your reply! I am currently forcing spotlight to re-index to see if that might help me out. After that I will try your suggestion and run a system software check.
I need a ProRes export as this is going to be combined with IMAG footage from a live presentation as well as additional video from an Arri Alexa. I want to preserve as much quality as possible so that there isn't a discrepancy in the final edit. Originally, I was rendering a small test to the desktop to gauge output quality of animations etc. I did go ahead and re-export a second time to an external drive, but it doesn't seem to matter as Keynote appears to initially render everything to the startup drive no matter what. The second export still ate about 15 gigs from my startup disk and I am unable to find any sort of temp files anywhere!
I am showing all files in Finder and searching around the ~/private/tmp folders to no avail. In the image below there appears to be a discrepancy in the size being reported by finder and the size I'm seeing listed in terminal...

  • Masking a Quicktime movie in Keynote 3.02

I have a Quicktime movie I want to show in a presentation. I would like to mask it to hide some of the peripheral areas of the movie. I have had no problem using the Mask command to do so with pictures, but that command is grayed out when I add the Quicktime move to a Blank slide of my theme. Any suggestions.
    Mark

The only way to mask movies is to lay an image over top of it that has transparency. This is how the photo cutout slides work. There's a slide sized image sitting on the back of the slide that has a hole punched in it. You can use an app like Photoshop to create one that matches your theme. Hope that helps.

  • Using a small quicktime movie as a button (a hyperlink)?

Could anyone tell me if I could use a small quicktime movie as a button? iWeb seems to not let simply select the hyperlink checkbox for a quicktime movie. I would like to be able to allow my site visitor to click on an animating image (I exported from keynote) to take them to a different page.

Insert a Shape and re-size & position it to cover the movie. In the Inspector > Graphic tab, set the Opacity of the Shape to 0%. Then hyperlink that transparent Shape.

  • QuickTime movies in Keynote on MacBook Pro do not play

On my iMac G5, all QuickTime movies play just fine in Keynote. When I transfer Keynote presentations to my MacBook Pro, many of the movies are virtually transparent. Those same movies play just fine in QuickTime on the Intel laptop. Any sugggestions?

Ok, open the movie in the QuickTime Player. With QuickTime as the frontmost application, hold down command and type I. What does it say is the "format" for this video?
I'm thinking it's using a codec that hasn't been made available for Intel (though once you know the format, you'll know where to look to see if it IS available).

  • Quicktime .mov

First, I am using components for special effect in my flash.
I need to export a .mov file with an alpha channel for a
transparent background. How do I do that in Flash when these

time line? As you know, exporting a movie file (.avi or .mov)
special effects will not show up in final product. With components,
you are limited to .swf files. Although one can convert the .swf to
an avi through Moyea SWF to Video. But if you want the background
transparent, it’s no good. If you have a solution that you
know for sure works with a file .mov (alpha) please let me know. I
have tried many avenues, importing the swf into Aftereffects, and
even making the .fla's backgroun 00FF00. Help me OB-1 Thanks!

  • How can I mask a TV channel ID on a quicktime movie file?

    Hi
How can I mask a TV channel ID on a quicktime movie file?
You know, in the top right of the screen it may say BBC3.
I would like to blot this out on my Quikctime movie file.
    Thanks in advance
    Glenn

You would need QuickTime Pro and an image editing application.
In TV terminology the onscreen display is known as a "bug" and the best you can do is make a new video track "layer" that would cover it up.
You could make a small image file (solid color) to cover the bug or a mask track that would allow some of the underlying video show through (if the bug is transparent).

  • Error exporting quicktime movie

I have Keynote 2 and the latest quicktime. I try to export the simpliest background/text slideshow to a self-playing quicktime movie and I always get an error that either I don't have enough memory, or there is a problem with the file.
I have tried different codecs (H.264, mpeg 4, Sorenson video, etc.) for compression, with and without audio, with and without transparency.
I've had success with exporting before, but I think it was when i updated to Keynote 2 and/or quicktime 7 that this started and I haven't been able to export since then.

  • Transparency programatically in quicktime

    Hi,
I have created a quicktime ".mov" movie programatically. I have done this by creating a number of jpeg images (which do not contain transparency obviously), and strung them together processing them into a quicktime movie!
whew, lots of work. Ive been looking for a way to convert the background of the movie into a transparent background, but although I know that there exists a way similar to this
    GraphicsMode x = new GraphicsMode (QDConstants.blend,QDColor.black);
    GraphicsImporter gi1 = new GraphicsImporter(y);
    try{
            gi1.setGraphicsMode (x);
       }catch(StdQTException sqe){
}I have to admit that I am a beginner when it comes to quicktime videos and converting the movie to a movie with transparency...
Im a bit lost as to what I really need to do in order to get this to convert the black part of the movie into something transparent.
Please let me know if you know anything that might be helpful.
    Thanks

In Quicktime version 7.6.6, how many milliseconds are in one video frame?
That depends on the video frame rate. To find out, simply divide 1 second by the frame rate and multiply your answer by 1000.
