  • Transport window legend

    Hi,
In the top right hand corner of the transport window, there is a triangle which is suppossed to give you access to the legend (and position slider).
When i click on it these 2 options are greyed out?
I would really like to be able to get the legend to work until i get comfortable with whats what in the transport.
    cheers
    Rob

Maybe that functionality was eliminated in version 7...
But... what if you opened the screenset that has the vertical transport in it, and hit "Copy Screenset". Then, open the screenset where you'd like it to go, and hit "Paste Screenset".
Now, of course, by doing that, the old screenset will overwrite the new one. But you could then close all the windows of the old screenset EXCEPT the vertical transport, and open/resize the windows you had there originally, until you have recreated that screenset, but this time now have the vertical transport as pat of it. Remember to lock this screenset now, and save as part of your autoload.
Assuming that works, of course... but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

    Hi
The best way of transporting area menu with keeping
all entries intact will be from transaction SE43. Select
the area menu and click on truck button which will
    create a transport request.
For your case the area meny code will be S000
    Kind Regards

  • Transport window goes blank

Has anybody experienced this ? : After I'm working in Logic for a little while. Say 20 minutes. Wierd discoloration starts appearing on my midi instrument regions. The edges get red. Then when you open up the region the midi notes are high lighted and stay that way even after you click on the back ground. They will not un-high light. Also the keyboard on the left side of the window dissapears. Then my transport window will go blank. Cant see record, pause etc.
Then if I close logic and re-open, everything is back to normal until another 20 minutes or so goes by.
Has anybody experienced this weird phenomenon?
Please let me know if you have and if know how to fix it.
    Thanks
    Michael

I've had all kinds of graphics issues arise lately (Logic Express 7.2.3).
I have experienced the 'blank" transport, but also a blank "System Performance" window, and "missing" level indicators on the faders.
Also, whenever I select an audio object in the audio mixer or in the environment, the whole object goes blank until I click off of it, and then it goes back to normal.
    Trashing preferences doesn't help.

  • Where is the window that displays midi chord names played on my controller??

I can't seem to locate the pane in the transport window that displays chords/notes played on the midi controller that was present in past versions.
    Any ideas, please????

"The display will show chords as played by incoming MIDI data, but Logic has never shown chords from the playback of the sequencer data."
"I used Cubase for years and this was a feature. Surprised it's not one in Logic but it's just a niggle."
That's not good enough for me.
I find this lack of chord display in Logic Pro X to be more than a minor inconvenience. It's a very helpful tool, when say, I'm sitting down with a guitar player to review the structure. A quick look at a chord names as they are sounded can get the guitar player started quickly, on their own.  I too used and sometimes still do use good ole Cubase. My version of Cubase is 20 years old :-), yet Logic can't display sequenced chords? Wow. Bummer.
Well, I've heard Logic has it's shortcomings.

  • STMS transport issue when attempting to release in SE10

    Hi guys,
I have set up a new system, with DEV as the controller, and the shared transport being on the DEV box.
The HR people have tried to use the system for creating transports from DEV > QA with the following 2 issues :
    Issue 1:
When a table entry is created, and saved, there is usually a "request for transport" window that pops up. This does not appear.
However, we are able to force the transport, which leads us to the second problem.
    Issue 2:
When a new table entry is created and included in the request, it says the entries are included in the task, but when referencing the transport in SE10, the relevant entry cannot be seen under the specified task.
I.e. In SE10 there is the transport number, but there is no 'plus' underneath it for me to release.
Could anybody give me some input?
    Thanks.
    Brad

    Hello Brad,
                      A few clarifications.
First could you please confirm that the the client settings are set up so that changes are automaticaly recorded?
If not goto transaction SCC4 and double click the customizing client.
    In
Changes and transports for client specific objects
set the option to : automatic recording of changes
for your second issue where your HR guys were trying to cerate a manual request, ask them to create the request first in SE01. Then got to SE10. (The user ID should be of the person who created the request) Click on display.
Select the request(which was created) and  use the menu option REQUEST>OBJECT LIST>INCLUDE OBJECTS.
This way the objects can be manually enetered into a request.
    Regards,

  • Transport (Cmd-7) - doesnt resize to default, cant use pop up

having trouble making the Transport tool (window) resize to how it appears when Logic first starts up. How is Logic able to make this tool size/appear this way while I the user am not ? I can drag the lower right corner just fine but this only causes the tool to 'rescale' - exact same placement of all buttons just larger or smaller in size.
Im hoping to get the Transport window to:
    a. change to the 'two level' mode (where there's two rows of buttons)
    b. let me use the upper right pop up - the words "Legend" and "Position Slider" always appear greyed out
    TIA

yes, Im aware of the drop down, I refer its content in my orig post.
Sometimes the drop down does show the items as selectable and sometimes they are not (greyed out). Any idea what causes this variability ?
Further, how to get the single row of buttons vs double row ? I dont see why sometimes Logic presents one or the other.
Choosing either "Legend" or "Slider Position" seems to have nothing to do with the single vs double phenomena.
Does anybody know the answer here ?

  • Song length not showing in transport

Using Logic Pro and the song length is not appearing in the transport window. I have tried all the formats for the transport window (full normal, full horizontal, etc.). Still all it shows is the midi status window, song name and then where the song length should be is gray. Am I missing something in the settings? Anyone else experienced this?
    Thanks,
    Matt

Didn't they reorganise the transport in 7.2? From
memory, I think they removed the free memory display
from the transport - did they move the song length
    indicator there, or remove it?
    Lemme check the 7.2 docs...
"The horizontal view of the Logic Transport window
now includes the Song End display (instead of the
Free Memory display). This allows you to set the
song end directly in the Transport window—a function
that comes in handy when you’d like to bounce the
complete song, as the start and end positions in the
Bounce dialog encompass the entire Logic song
(provided that the Cycle function is switched off
    and no Regions are selected).
Note: The Song End field—shown in the standard
Transport window view—has been moved to the position
formerly occupied by the Free Memory display.
The Reorganize Memory function (which you could
access by double-clicking the Free Memory display)
has been moved to the Song Information window:
Choose Options > Song Information and click the
Reorganize Memory button to use this function.
In former versions, a click in the Free Memory
display showed the frame rate of incoming MIDI time
code. This function can now be accessed by clicking
the Upper (MIDI In) section of the MIDI Activity
display. Song End display MIDI Activity Display"
So yes, it's staring you in the face under the tempo
    readout...
    That's it...
Thanks very much for your help...
I was going the by screenshots in the manual and I did not think to check the documentation for the latest version. I will check that before I post again next time. Just getting started with Logic and a little inundated with new information.
    Thanks again,
    Matt

  • Help, basic question, no audio output?

I have a Mac Pro running latest version of Logic Pro. I'm not new to audio software (come from a Cakewalk background on the Windows platform), but I'm relatively new to Mac Pro and Logic Pro.
I seem unable to get any audio output from my setup when using a Logic Midi Track (i.e. GM Device Piano).
    My hardware:
    Mac Pro
M-Audio Axiom 25 Keyboard/controller (connected via USB to Mac Pro)
MOTU UltraLite (connected via FireWire to Mac Pro)
M-Audio ProjectMix I/O (connected via FireWire to Mac Pro)
I can bring up the Loop Browser and play loops and place loops in the Arrange view but I can't seem to use my USB/MIDI M-Audio Keyboard to generate any Audio via the Motu.
Also, I can see the Midi events in the Logic Transport Window.
If I load up garageband the M-Audio & Motu Ultralite work just fine, so I'm confused as to what I'm not doing right in Logic Pro? It must be something really basic I'm missing.
Sorry for such a basic lame question, but I'm stumped!
    Thanks, Rob.

well of course there is no official word on when an update to logic will arrive with a significant GUI overhaul. personally I hope that such a step is taken carefully.. this software is the backbone of many people's working life, so and big changes to the interface are hopefully being considered and integrated carefully.
I'd hope that a major overhaul to the logic UI won't just be cosmetic. there is a lot of legacy code left over from emagic days that do not make use of the latest OSX technology and so are not optimised. an example - look at how slow the screenset changes are. there is always a delay in response time to when you change a screenset, in some cases this can actually be slower than it was on older machines running OS9. as far as I can tell this is because it's all part of some custom graphics code in logic and doesn't make use of OSX quartz and probably not the graphics card effectively either. as a comparison, look at how incredibly responsive exposé is. it always seems to stay that responsive regardless of CPU load, so there has got to be a way to make the GUI features of logic perform just as snappily as the system ones.
same goes for the painful, annoying delay in mouse click response time, which is worse since OSX than it was under os9. a rewrite of logic's UI will hopefully sort this problem out too.
these things may seem like irrelevant nitpicks, but trust me, when you become a power user and you are cutting audio and throwing parts of your arrangement around like nobody's business, the sticky slow response of the GUI really penalises you.

  • Communication problem between USB MIDI keyboard and logic

Haven't used program in a while, but ready to record a bunch of new stuff and when I started up Logic I cannot get my keyboard to send logic a MIDI signal. I don't ever remember having this happen before. I have always just plugged my keyboard in through the USB port and it works fine but there is no signal at all in the transport window where it says 'no in no out.' Usually whatever chord or note is played is read here as well as note velocity. I thought I could troubleshoot this on my own but I'm stumped. The only thing I can think of that might be the problem is that I have upgraded to 10.5 from 10.4 since the last time I've done any recording. I also have an older version of logic (7) but I don't want to upgrade as I (at one point anyway) was pretty familiar with this version and I have the book to this version. Please help!
    Thanks

That seems like the most likely reason that it doesn't work now - you don't say what kind of keyboard it is, but I'd look on the manufacturer's website to see if there's a 10.5 compatible driver available.

  • How do you lock the end of the project

This has been frustrating me for years using different versions of Logic.  I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything in case it's changed with Logic 10.1.
If I want a 3 minute project, I can drag the end locator to the 3 minute mark.  But if I add any audio that exceeds that mark, the locator is pushed to some seemingly random point way down the timeline (even with Auto Set unchecked).  Isn't there any way to lock the end locator in place so that any audio added simply gets cut off at that point?  It's a royal pain to have to keep finding that locator then dragging it back in place.  I can't find any option to lock it, and I haven't seen any discussions about it.

In the transport window below the tempo display you find the End point of your project. Maximum project length is 13 hours equaling 21601 Bars at tempo 120 or 901 bars at tempo 5.

  • What's happening when I change tempo?

I have some audio tracks that have been chopped into regions. The regions are butted up to one another. They are pieces from different tracks that have been put together.
I noticed that if I change the tempo in the transport window, I end up either with space added between the regions or the regions end up overlapping. It seems to have no affect on other audio tracks that are have only one region although not sure.
What is happening here and why? Is there some setting that would prevent this? I don't remember this happening on previous projects.

Only certain types of files are automatically time stretched when changing tempo..
Depending on what files you've imporrted/recorded determines this.
Don't be offended when someone mentions read the manual, this is a user forum where everyone gives of their free time. There are those that come here who think they are entitled to information without doing any work... (at all... period.)  I think many that post here get tired of being used in that manner. Not saying that you've done that but the "new standard" is not reading the manual.

  • Big Problem in Logic, If you can solve this problem ur truly a Mac Genius

Hello folks, as the title suggests, I have an enourmous problem. I am an 18 year old aspiring producer/engineer who cashed out his entire savings to buy a sick mobile recording setup to take to Germany for a year as a foriegn exchange student. The bare bones of my setup are as follows:
1.83 gHz Macbook pro with 1.5 gb Ram
    Logic Pro 7 universal
    Presonus Firepod
Glyph 80 gb 7200 rpm drive
Here is the problem. When I try to record a track in Logic Pro, the bar ruler lights up red like it is supposed to, as does the record and play buttons in the transport window, but no window comes up saying recording to blah blah blah HD, and then instead of recording the Song Position line just moves forward like normal but leaves behind no audio region.
Here is where it gets tricky. Logic will record with the built in Microphone, but not the Firepod. Garageband works absolutely perfect with the Firepod and as far as I can tell the Firepod works perfectly. I have tried all of the obvious solutions so far such as repairing permissions, deleting preferences, blah blah blah, the support staff at sweetwater (who I bought the system from) can't say why it isn't working because everything is compatible, apple couldn't fix it and then said it was because I didn't have a 7200 rpm drive, then I bought one and it still didn't work. What the **** am I supposed to do!
As far as I can tell there is some sort of OSX incompatibility with this system that should have been fixed long ago. By the same token there are other people sucessfully using the exact same setup as I. Please god, or anyone else out there with a solution, what should I do to get this system working! I am so anxious about this!

Ok, In my hardware/audio drivers pane, logic recognizes the firepod by name. I have it selected there although this device does in fact use core audio drivers to run not 3rd party ones... In addition it doesn't matter one bit what input I have selected because it doesn't even leave behind a blank audio region. It leaves absolutely nothing behind. I have also tried refreshing my record paths many times. I have no clue then why my buttons and bar ruler light up, does this indicate anything to you guys as to the nature of the problem? Applecare is pretty stumped. I recently did a complete reinstall of everything, including OSX, then did all the software updates and that still didn't work. As for the aggregate workaround, I have not yet tried that. This is such a wierd deal because sometimes it will record one track just fine, and then I will try it seconds later with the exact same setup, and it won't work. So basically it has recorded quite a number of times with my setup, it just refuses to do it the majority of the time. ***!

  • HOW DO I PUT AN ACCAPELLA ON A BEAT" match it up like a dj

ok when i normally want to quickly put an accapella on a "instrumental" as a dj i simply load the accapella into my denon or cd player and through the "pitch" on the cd player, match the accapella on the beat less then 30 seconds.
Now when I would like do that same command in "logic" I am still not aware of a plugin that can do this without me manually burning the accapella on a cd then mixing it live on my beat through an external cd player source.
    so the question is:
how do i put an accapella on a "beat" within logic without cutting the accapella so that it fits on piece by piece.
    WHAT IS THE FASTEST WAY:

There are probably third party plug-ins that let you do this quickly like your CD-Js. However, the way to do this in Logic is slower.
First, you need to know the BPM of the acappella, and the easiest way to figure this out is to import the full track it's from into a blank Logic project and work with the BPM of the Logic project until you have it matched with the audio track. The way I do this is to cut the track right on the first kick and then drag that audio region so it lands exactly on the first beat of the bar. Then I adjust the bpm (located in the transport window) until the track stays lined up all the way to the end. It's brainless, you just look at the visuals of the beat and make sure they stay on with the grid in Logic. Once you got it lined up, you know the BPM of the track.
(If you're doing a remix for someone, it's nice to get the BPM from the artist cuz it saves you this first step)
Then, go back to the project you're trying to use the acappella with. Import the acappella into the Audio window and hit "W" to edit it. Or if it's already in your arrange window, double click on it right from the arrange.
In the audio editor window, use Command-A to select all (Apple-A). Then from the "Factory" pull-down window select "Time & Pitch Machine." Enter the acappella's BPM on the left and the the BPM you want it to be on the right (destination). Then process it (takes a couple minutes) and you're good. You just need to drag the acappella forward and back on the arrange window until it feels right.
