MacBookPro5,1 LED screen flicker on either graphics card on lowest brightness setting. Definitely noticeable and annoying when using the lowest power settings to extend battery life during school usage. Has been happening since I got the machine.
Also new out of the box the screen isn't aligned properly with the base of the unit. Like it got knocked around during manufacture, anyone have this issue?
Also my serial number does not show up in Apple's systems as a sold machine even though I have a proof of purchase. I called 800 APL CARE to resolve the issue, they were looking into it and haven't gotten back to me either, this was weeks ago....
Anyone think I should buy APP?

Your underpowered system may get by if you edit SD DV material, but is way out of its league when editing AVCHD or Red or DSLR material.
Without further info to go on, you have the following problems:
    Not enough memory
    No dedicated nVidia video card
    Insufficient PSU
    No hard disks
About the only thing good about your system is the CPU, but there it ends. Everything else needs to be improved. How much depends on your source material, your workflow, your destination format and all those data were severely missing.

  • Screen resolution with new graphics card

    Mac G4 400 AGP (Sawtooth) OS9.2.2 + Tiger
Hi, I have just updated my old G4 with new HD and new Nvidia GeForce 2MX graphics card. Under OSX everything seems fine but under OS9 the screen (22 Lacie Electron) will only display at 640 x 480 with no other choice of resolutions. I cannot find any drivers other than the Driver Update 3.0v1.1 which gives a message that it 'cannot be run on this computer'.
The original ATI Rage had extensions but I cannot find anything for the Nvidea card - do I nee to reinstall the OS to have them load?
Is this lack of resolution normal or can I change it? I only boot onto OS9 to access some older SCSI devices but the screen re is horrible and makes it hard to use.
Any help or advice welcome. Thanks.

    Hi, AntF -
The OS 9.2.2 download updater includes NVIDIA drivers (v. 2.4), but they probably would not have been installed if the NVIDIA card was not in the machine at the time the updater was run.
You can probably get them installed them by re-running the OS 9.2.2 updater, now that the card is present.
Or, you can extract them manually from the Installation Tome contained in that download update. You can use the utility TomeViewer to extract (expand) any files you want from an Installation Tome on an OS Install CD or download disk image, without running the installer. There are several NVIDIA extensions; since the default view in TomeViewer is alphabetical, you should be able to grab all of them as a group. Extract (expand) them to the desktop, then (while booted to OS 9) drop them into the closed System Folder - Finder will place them for you.
    How to use TomeViewer
I would do the second, since it is safer (there's no risk of the installer accidentally replacing something which should not be replaced).
In case you do not have the OS 9.2.2 updater handy -
Article #75186 - Mac OS 9.2.2 - Download and Info
After getting the NVIDIA extensions installed, restart. Then use Extensions Manager to turn off (uncheck) the ATI extensions. Restart again.

  • Graphics card broken or wrong bios setup?

I have a point of view gtx 460 768mb Graphics card and at the first time I started my computer it worked, but later that day it just stopped working and i switched to the intergrated graphics thinking that it just needed drivers to work again... But my computer is finished and it still doesn't work. :(
Does anyone now if this is a wrong bios setup or is my graphics card really broken. (The fan on the graphics card is still working.)

We cannot comment on non-MSI products. But the first thing to do is to test your system with a known working power supply.
It could be that your PSU has gone faulty by the sounds of what you are describing.

  • Graphics card broken/burnt out?

Last night I was trying to render a video using Vectorworks (an architecture/design AutoCAD program) and it was taking a long time ot render each frame. The comp got hot, and the fan revved up, and the program froze about 2/3 of the way through (after about an hour and a half).
Now, it looks like the window graphics have changed to resemble Tiger (I'm running 10.6.4). The windows are flat and beveled, and some have those horizontal lines from previous versions. The colors have changed from gradients to plain grey or off-white.
Have I busted my graphics card? Is there any way to fix this? Otherwise, the computer seems to run fine.

Have you tried rebooting the computer? In particular you might try booting into safe mode. You can also try the following:
    Reset the PRAM;
    Reset the PMU.

Your link leads to a Google sign in page? Were you trying to post a screenshot/picture of your desktop? If so, plese use the little camera icon in the toolbar of the reply window and navigate to your screenshot to upload it.
And yes, it does sound like a graphics card issue. You might want to take it to the nearest Genius Bar for a free evaluation/diagnosis.

  • K7N420 and Twin Bank and a new graphic card

    Hi,
I tried to gain Dual-Channel operation buying two 256MB memory sticks.
So far i can't see any rising in Memory Bandwidth (checked with Sandra and Memtest).
The modules are slithly different as i noticed after a while, despite the same model nr.
Heard that you have to load High Performance defaults in BIOS, but can i
change things in BIOS after i've done that?
Is there any other way to check for twin-bank operation?
I bought a new grahic card to rise system performance.
Still wondering if dual channel would do any good with an extra AGP - card,
or if i should take one of my old 256 modules and put it in the empty slot...
    Regards, Alex

    Hello,
The performance gain is very small.
Your CPU is 133Mhz FSB DDR = 2100MB/s
    Your memory is 133Mhz DDR = 2100MB/s
Running that is DC = support for 4200MB/s
But your CPU can only deliver 2100MB/s.
So there is no difference there but the way the memory controller works is slightly different in DC mode so it is better.
    http://www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php#download
Run that and go to the MEMORY TAB, it should say Dual channel mode.

  • Is my graphic card broken?

    Hi!
Just returned to my computer (iMac G5), woke it up and found that menues and transparent areas in the OS looked weird:
    Screenshot: http://www.beakid.se/bugg1.png
Tried to switch to 256 colors: http://www.beakid.se/256colors.png
Have tried to restart, uninstall OS-skin-enhancers etc but it doesn't change.
HOWEVER, the problem was solved when I booted in "safe mode". The 256 colors mode still looked weird, but it was all good in Millions colors.
Anyone who can help me out?

    Hello everyone
I have something quite similar with mine, well, even more frightening than beakid's screenshots actually.
So I ran the Apple Hardware Test and I got the following error code:
    2NVD/3/4: 2103
...sounds like my video card is in trouble...
but anyone knows what that means exactly? is it actualli broken or is there just something wrong with its memory?
    If it
falls into THIS range of serial numbers, you are
actually covered for two years on video and power
    supply issues.
Unfortunately my iMac's serial number doesn't belong to said range, and Apple doesn't even seem to have ever heard of it. So I can't even use the chat-with-a-support-agent-and-get-an-answer-at-once thing.

  • Graphic card problem - blue screen error

    Hi
When I turn my computer on after it has been off for a long time, it comes up with a blue screen which says: "Your graphics card has got stuck in an infinite loop and your computer had to be shut down to prevent damage"
When I restart my computer it is fine, but I still want to change my graphics card, or at least fix he problem
    Thanks

    Hello
Download the graphic card driver from Toshiba download site. In device manager open graphic card properties. Chose please driver tab and use uninstall (advanced) option. After that restart the unit and install downloaded Toshiba driver.
I am pretty sure that it should work well again.
    Bye

    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • Multiple graphics cards on 2008 mac pro, won't work

Hi, I have a 2008 Mac Pro 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon with 14 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM. I have used a ATI Radeon HD 2600 Graphics card connected to 2 x BenQ E2400HD screens. Now, I want 4 screens so I bought a NVidia Geforce 8800 GT graphics card as I found these to be compatible with my setup on Ebay (only place I could find it). Got it in a brand new condition in a Apple graphics card box so should be all good. Put it in PCI-E slot 2. Now when I started my Mac after installing I could hear a loud fan noise (fan going on max speed) and tracked it to the new graphics card. When I open the system profiler it shows up as a display. The screen connected to the graphics card with a DVDI-cable does not show an image and the screen indicates that it does not have an input. Any ideas what's wrong here? Is my graphics card broken?

More than likely you got wrong verion.
1,1 and 2,1 Mac Pros are EFI32, and for Nvidia cards need proper version.
If your machine is a 3,1 or later you need an EFI64 version.
    Contact the seller and clarify.
If you install "ATY_Init" and are running 10.6.8 you will find the card will work once machine boots all the way.
You could then flash the card into proper version if you were especially clever with things like that.
But your seller should help you.
You need to know "Model Identifier"

  • Graphics Card shortage for G5 Dual 2.0 GHz?

This is more a comment maybe out of frustration than anything. Sorry. I have a G5 Tower Dual 2.0 GHz with ATI 9800 Pro w/128 Ram. 1.5 Meg of memory.
Been a Apple/Mac supporter for over 20+ years. If anyone has any suggestions as you read on, please let me know.
I bought my G5 in late 2004 so it has operated excellently for a number of years. Of course, my Applecare expired a couple of months ago and now a week ago, it appears that my orginal graphics card has gone out. After about 2 or 3 minutes from bootup, the screen begins filling up with artifacts. You can still see the desktop, but it is pretty messed up.
The original graphics card was an ATI 9800 Pro with 128 meg of ram. I contacted an Apple service center in Kansas and was told that they can get me the original card but it would cost me $600. What's with that price? Plus it would be on backorder for an unknown lenghth of time.
Or, I can get an ATI X800XT which is supposed to be about 2X the video for $300. A no brainer. I ordered it. Except, same thing, on backorder until the end of February 2007. I was told that these (2) graphics cards are the only ones that will work in my G5.
In any case, my computer will be down for nearly 3 weeks while I wait on this video card. Not a pleasant situation. I went on line looking for some place that I could maybe get a ATI X800XT sooner. No luck. Each place I went says "On Order".
So here my computer is dead in the water for 3 to 4 weeks. Thanks for any help.

    Hi
I could be wrong, but I believe the shortage may be related to RoHS, the Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive. It was adopted by the European Union in 2003 to restrict the usage of lead, mercury, cadmium and other substances. I believe ATI may have just started manufacturing graphics cards which now conform to this directive, but there's been a shortage between the old stock being sold off and the new stock being introduced. Unfortunately this doesn't help, but may explain what's happening.

  • 5700 ultra graphics card

I recently started to have a few problems with my card were the screen would go fuzzy for a few seconds and then clear up. Yesterday a started to defrag my HD and after 20 or so minutes the screen went fuzzy and stayed that way. I rebooted my computer several times and as soon as the computer went past the bios screen the sceen went again. I removed the card and reseated it as ive recently moved house and wondered if that could be the cause. On rebooting i dont even get the bios sceen popping up anly the bsod. The led at the rear indicates that its stopped on initialising the video interface.
Has my graphics card broken or can there be any onther reason.
Any help in this matter would be extremly appreciated.
    Sean

I have tried another card which when i boot to my sata drives indicates that it wasn't shut down correctly and asks do i want to boot in safe mode etc. When selecting any option my computer reboots itself and i go through the same process of booting to safe mode. If i boot to my other HDD, i boot up without a problem and the video card works. So now i know my cards had it i just have to try and resolve the boot up problem.
PS. when booting up on the non sata drive as my primary boot i still recognise my sata drives, thankfull for small mercies at least if i reformat i won't loose any infomation. Time to spend some money and get a decent card

  • MSI X48C Platinum - Graphic card identification problem

    Hi,
I have been having this problem for a long time which I still haven't been able to solve.
When I plug my graphics card to the PCI-E slot 1 (Slot closest to the cpu) I get nothing on my monitor. I have to plug it on to the  PCI-E slot 2 (PCI-E 4) to get anything on the monitor. I am running Windows 7 (64bit) Professional.
With this configuration (That is, the graphics card being installed in slot PCI-E4) I am getting a lot of blue screen failures due to  graphics card being non-responsive, especially when running graphic intensive programmes.
Here are the details of my PC configuration.
Motherboard - MSI X48C Platinum (MSI MS 7353)
    RAM  - 6GB DDR3
    Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300  -  2500Mz
    BOIS - Version 7.4V
    Graphics card - Hightech Radeon HD4870  1GB DDR5
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Cris

    Hi go_for,
    Thanks for the reply.
I am using a Aerocool 750W  (model VP-750)power suppy and the graphics card is connected with 2 PCI-E power connectors from the power supply.
The problem is that it runs on the other pci-e slot not the first one. Could the first slot be defective?
    Thanks

  • Mac pro graphics card question

Hello, I am ordering an apple Mac Pro tomorrow and I need a question cleared up.
If I get the 4x ATI radion 2600 HD (4 graphics cards) If I hook up one monitor will 1 graphics card take up 1 forth of the screen or is this meant for people with like 4 screens?
    Thank you

One graphics card can run two monitors. Four graphics cards could run 8 monitors. Four graphics cards will not run one monitor any faster than one graphics cards. Unless you plan on running three or more monitors, even a second graphics card will be money wasted.
