No upgrades in speed tiers in 4 years

I was one of the very first dsl customers to switch to uverse in my area. Back then the fastest speed tier was 24 down and you had to be very close to the vrad, I could only get 18 down. I have read about all the upgrades they do now like different cards and different frequencies and see 45mbs advertised on tv all the time. My question is why in 4 years has no upgrades been done to my service? I check monthly on myatt.com on the upgrade speed and 18 down is always the fastest available to me. Can someone please let the right people know I have been a loyal customer for a very long time and im interested in very fast speeds? Thanks in advance.

The new speed tiers are short loop.... Meaning you had to qualify for best single pair internet speed of Max Turbo 24 on the 32M profile to receive the bonded short loop Power 45 (F, K or N card) or the Power Plus 75 (17a on K or N card). As your best speed is Max Plus 18 your either a long loop single pair install under 3000 feet or a longer loop bonded install. Both of these are on a 25M profile to provide Max Plus 18 internet. There have been a few upgrades here and there moving a few who qualify on 17a to the 32M profile to be eligible for Max Turbo 24/3. This will be your best bet for faster speed if your loop length is short enough.

I'd like to upgrade my speed from 35/35 plan. Does anyone know when Verizon is going to upgrade the fios speed tiers? Compared to cable co docsis 3, fios is starting to look and feel slow.

Verizon does have higher speed tiers if you really want the additional speed. Their 50M/20M package is certainly feeling dated since it hasn't been updated in... 5 years? but they did introduce a 150M/75M package for a good deal of money a month, as fast but unfortunate as that might be. Now if what you're asking for is a speed boost on all the tiers, Verizon tends to boost the speeds every year to a year and a half. Lately these boosts have been silent. The 35Mbps tier, for example tends to clock in 43 or so Megabits on the download and about 38Mbps on the upload. Since you have that package, I'd check to see what you're really getting.
I would like to see 50Mbps/20Mbps go to 100Mbps/100Mbps sometime in the near future, though. 150Mbps/75Mbps goes to 250Mbps/250Mbps. That'd be very nice to see and by no means will DOCSIS 3.0 get that kind of upload any time soon.
As it currently stands, the highest DOCSIS 3.0 package available to me is 50Mbps/5Mbps. FiOS's basic package in my area still beats that plan in upload by an additional megabit. The legacy 50Mbps/20Mbps speed smokes that cable connection in upload, and is also $20 cheaper a month believe it or not.
Here, the packages run as follows:
1Mbps/384kbps DSL > Runs at 1Mbps/340kbps. Comparative Cable package: 768kbps/128kbps. ($25 for DSL and Cable).
3Mbps/1Mbps > Runs at 5Mbps/2Mbps. Comparative Cable Package: 10Mbps/1Mbps ($30/m FiOS, $40/m Cable).
15Mbps/5Mbps > Runs at 20Mbps/6Mbps. Comparative cable package: 15Mbps/2Mbps (~$50/m for Cable, $45 FiOS).
25Mbps/25Mbps > Runs at 30Mbps/26Mbps. Comparative Cable package: 30Mbps/5Mbps ($60/m for Cable, $55/m for FiOS).
35Mbps/35Mbps > Runs at 43Mbps/38Mbps, available if you have Phone or TV with FiOS. Comparative Cable package: 50Mbps/5Mbps (Same price as the 25Mbps for FiOS, Cable is $100/m).

So I guess it really depends on what market you live in, I guess. A Comcast or Cablevision market i'm sure would have higher speed Cable packages, and in the case of Cablevision, ones that cost less and that would be where I'd expect Verizon to boost speeds. Other than that, FiOS does have the overall edge in my area regardless, as long as you don't cheap out and go with the unadvertised packages.

Everyone is often so quick to bash all these 'cleaning' utilities but rarely give any solutions.
There's a lot of critiques and endless lists of what NOT to do to avoid performance problems.
My Powerbook is 3 years old. It runs like molasses... SLOW.
I'm not a computer geek, but I'm smart and understand quite a bit more than a newbie.
Do I need a degree in computer engineering to fix/speed up my mac?
Yes, I know, the cleaning utilities suck. But is it really true of all of them?
I'm not totally convinced because there seems to be such a huge market for them.
Sure, there's a huge market for bottled water too, so maybe they are just useless/marketing crap, but I really want to return to my original speed performance quickly and can't seem to find out if it's possible with a utility.
I'm not willing to sit down for 3 hours and study line by line b.s. about how to fix it.
I have no problem if it's not fixable. I've always assumed operating systems outgrow their hardware's capacity to keep up, and sell my old one for a new one, no prob.
I don't care, really, but again, I'm curious if there is any quick, easy, user-friendly utility or method that I can use to return the speed performance I had as recently as a year ago? (I'd be satisfied with that).
Anyone willing to bite on that? Anyone willing to not critique, complain, tell me what NOT to do and actually know a solution?

When you complete your current contract, Verizon has options on which incentives you would like to take.
You can sign a new 2 yr service contract by purchasing a new phone at a considerable discount(~$400+).
You can also choose to purchase a new smartphone on Edge at full retail cost for which Verizon will give you either a 37.5% or a 62.5% discount(depending on your data allowance) on your monthly line access fee when on the More Everything plan.

If they are the grey discs which came with the iMac, then they will be machine specific and will not work on the MBP anyway. You will need to purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard from the Apple Store for about $29 and upgrade from that. I presume your MBP is Intel and not G4.

I'm not so much desperate for CC as much as I want to give it a good trial. I have done the free trial for 30 days and the things I need to work do work and I'm pretty pleased with the way it functions. As a CS6 owner, I get a discounted price on CC for one year ($19.99). I want to use that cheaper year to try out CC even more to see if it functions well (or not) over a longer time.
If I order it directly from Adobe, I can take advantage of the discounted price but it looks like I have to have my credit card deducted once a month for the year. I'd rather pay the whole year's subscription at once and up front. If I order it through a reseller (Staples, Amazon, etc.) it looks like I can buy a pre-paid card for the whole year but I don't see how I can buy one for the discounted price that I qualify for (they only sell them for the full $49.99/month price).

hi all. my first macbook pro is about a month old now and i like it so much i was thinking about upgrading my internet speed. i have att medium dsl, but i may get the faster one. my question is: will this cause me to have to change anything around in my airport? i don't know if this is an att specific question or just anytime anyone upgrades any speed do they have to redo anything. i'm not real good at this stuff and in fact never had wireless in my house til i got this macbook pro, so if it's gonna mess everything up, i'll just leave it as is. thanks, this forum is very helpful and i read it daily just to pick up tips.

Upgrading your internet speed through your service provider will not affect any settings you have set up between your wireless router and your MacBook Pro. It will be a silent and seamless upgrade.

What signal is it picking up? Are you joining wireless network? If so don't.. it is really poor way to run things.
Is it connected to a cable modem? Full router or just a modem type?
Try a reset?
Plug in via ethernet.. turn off everything.. wait 5min then restart cable modem.. if that doesn't work, give it a longer off cycle.. 15min or overnight.
We need more info.

ITunes won't sync (after "upgrading" to Lion because my four year old macBook can't use Mtn. Lion) With a little ranting sprinkled in.

I hope someone out there has the expertise to tell me what I am doing wrong. I expect a learning curve from a new Mac operating system, but I don't expect weeks of problem solving and glitches. Lion...well, they won't let me use that word.
Since I "upgraded" to Lion, when I hit "sync" in iTunes on the computer, I get one of three things: 1. Nothing happens, or: 2. A message appears that there is not sufficient room on the Nano for the changes, which is not true, or: 3. It syncs down to next to nothing on the Nano and I have to hit revert.
Sometimes I'm confronted with a screen that wants me to check or uncheck each and every album (but not songs) that I want synced. I have already kept up to date a more specific and complete list of the same sort elsewhere in iTunes: the "Music" list in my itunes "Library." Today I unchecked some songs and checked some others expecting to easily have the corresponding changes made on my iPod, as I have for years. This is the list that I have refined over the years based on new music acquired, my changing tastes, and room left on the iPod. Am I really expected to duplicate this process on another list only to end up with no options for individual songs I do, or do not, want synced? What is the purpose of this exercise?
I finally got it to upgrade to iTunes 10.6.3. I was repeatedly getting a message in iTunes that there was an upgrade available. I would hit upgrade within that mesage in iTunes. It would go through the process of checking for new software and then tell me my software was up to date. (I was running iTunes 10.6 (40).) Software update also told me my software was up to date. I had to go to the Apple site to find and download and install iTunes 10.6.3. The change made no difference to the above problem. I'm not used to screw-ups like this from Apple.
I can't think of a single change in Lion that I like. Not one. I hate the new calendar. I hate the new Safari, and I hate the new Mail. I hate the combination of Google search and the address bar. I hate the way hiting a hot link in Mail opens a new tab in Safari instead of a new window. And the number of hassles and fixes and problems to be solved in the move from Snow Leopard to Lion has been like nothing I have experienced before on a Mac.
An iMac and a laptop are not iOS devices. And iPads and iPhones are not laptops or desktops. To try to merge the operating systems is a major error in my opinion. Thanks for putting up with my rant. I never expected to be so frustrated by a Mac "upgrade." And I've been using Macs a log time. Any advise would be apreaciated.

In lieu of relaxing on Sunday, I've been working on this.
I tried launching Thunderbird (TB) in TB's "Safe Mode". This launches TB like it's being used for the first time - and it didn't crash, which got me hopeful.
So I deleted the TB profile folder and the TB preference file from the ~/Library folder. Then I manually copied them over from my old Mac to my new Mac - figuring that maybe something got damaged by Migration Assistant. After I installed all of the TB files and folders into the right places in my ~/Library folder, I rebooted the Mac (just to be safe) and tried to launch TB - and it crashed upon launching, with essentially the same crash log as shown above.
So it looks like there is something in my TB Profile that Lion doesn't like (but that Snow Leopard was fine with).
Any suggestions for how to find and fix/remove the offending item? Is there something I could search for in the crash log that would point me to the offending item?

Incredibly low speeds, ongoing for numerous years.

Have had countless problems with BT from line being installed a month late to being put on wrong exchange and at my previous address where speed was also the issue had around 10 engineers over a 4 year period.
The issue after a house move in August is exactly the same. The speed, I see most people complaining onother threads about what i would consider an amazing DL speed (2MB), our actual DL speed is around 40-100KBPS, and speed tests run at around 0.4MB, with 3 avid gamers in the house and numerous downloads a day going on. I thought posting on here may help as get some progress on line speed increase as surely this is not the maximum attainable by any BROADBAND connection, dial-up speeds were advertised higher than the connection we are getting at the moment, now i know most will say move closer to an exchange or something unhelpful but looking for any sort of help i can gear, here are stats from home hub:

(Another) Recent Exchange Upgrade - Slow Speeds

Since my exchange was upgraded 9 days ago, I have had diabolical (less than 1meg) download speeds.
I appreciate the time to settle down can be up to 10 days, but my speed seems to be getting worse, not better.
I don't have a Hub, I'm using a d-link DSL-G624T wireless router so I can't post any stats (don't know how) but I have run the speed tester, and my results are as follows :

Upgrade Processor Speed

I just bought a PowerBook, with HD 40 GB Processor Type: PowerPC G4, Mac OS 10.4, Tiger, Processor Speed 400 MHz, Screen Size: 15 inches,RAM 384 MB
I wonder if I could change of put another G4 Processor, better than a 400MHz? and if apple store either online or physical store can help me?

These guy's have that likely will work, but there is other companies out there that also produce CPU upgrades.

Line "upgraded" but speed is the same

Last week when seeing if we could get Infinity, the BT Broadband checker said we could have a '12 - 18mb Line' which was a decent upgrade on our 4.8mb speed.
This was a new thing - having tested the same page a week earlier we got that message 'BT Infinity is currently available to you'. This time we got the new message, together with a lovely image of the Home Hub 5...
So I ordered it and the BT Engineer came out. He put a new Master Socket in. He went out to do work on the cabinet (two cabinets actually, he said), and came back. he tested the line...
4.8mb.
"Great" he said, job done.
"Hang on" I said, "That's what we were getting before - exactly that, in fact. This is supposed to be a line upgrade - we were promised up to 18mb..."
But no, he said that's it - that's all we get.
So... why did we get a line upgrade then? What was the point of that!? Is it possible there was a step he missed, to get the line up to 20mb? Or perhaps it takes a few days to max out?
Possibly the profile needs upping / resetting?
Can anyone please advise?

I find this computer unacceptably slow. I am not too familiar with hardware, mainly software. I've tried doing a bit of research and found out it could possibly be due to the fact that I only have 4GB of Ram? Not really sure. I have been long time linux user, the description of "slow" is ambigue. Sata HDD is work "fast enought", slow on GUI, i.e not responsive againts your "input" i.e click something could be the GPU, but in general "fast computer" is with sufficient RAM, RAM always working very hard on daily usage, upon all RAM capacities consumed the computer will freeze ( hank ), when hard-disk "space" full complie something will just failed i.e you rendering a video. For obtaining good "speed" I believed, upgrade more RAM. Cpu is NOT really matters. Unless you have a lot of floating jobs.
