No USB device in boot oder

Hi Guys,
I have IdeaPad E10-30 with FreeDos preinstalled on it.
I am trying to install Windows 8.1 64bit from USB device but had no results.
- I tried to do like described here http://support.lenovo.com/ua/uk/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-e-series- laptops/lenovo-e10-30/documents/HT078684?tabName=Solutions
- Tried to create boot USB by just copying ISO content
- Tried to create bootable USB with Rufus
The main problem I see here is that in BIOS USB drive is not showed in boot prioroty order list at all, EFI Network 0 for IPv4 only.
Could you, please help me with that ?

I have the same problem with a y50 uhd touch system. Enbling usb boot in the bios does not cause the usb boot option to appear in the boot menu. I think this is either a basic flaw or something a BIOS updat could fix.

    Good afternoon everyone!
Forgive me if this seems like a stupid question but I was wondering if anyone knew where the option to boot into a USB device was in the Bios setup? I had this option on my old motherboard so it seems bizarre that I can't find it on a board such as this.  The only boot options I have are for cd-rom, hdd, and floppy drives.  Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks all!

Yes! The key is to connect the USB device BEFORE booting.
I boot to my USB flash drive all the time (e. g. to run MemTest86 and the like). In fact I leave the boot order with the flash drive first - even when I am booting to my hard drive (of course without the flash drive connected).

This is a problem when a Microsoft web camera is installed prior to the boot up of the computer
The webcam works fine if it is installed after the boot up.
When any type of USB product that does not have an OS is installed in any USB port the computer freezes at the BIOS POST screen and will not finish the POST unless the USB device is removed. If there is an OS on the USB device it boots normally to that device and it also boots normally to the installed OS if the USB device is not installed.
Contacted HP Support and was told to update the BIOS, which I had already done. Then I was told that the computer was out of warranty and I could pay for the service if I wanted help. I agreed to pay if the problem was fixed. This brought a reply that they did not know if the problem could be fixed.
The next day I received an email with Critical Alerts, one showing the BIOS update I had already installed and 2 other non critical updates.
Since HP did not show any interest in fixing this problem I am posting it here to see if anyone else has had this problem.

    Hi,
Boot into the bios and change the boot priority order and save the setting change.  Look under the Storage TAB drop down and then Boot Order. Highlight USB and press enter and then the down arrow to move it below the hard drive.  Save the changes when you exit the bios.

    Hi Guys,
I have windows 8.1 and updated all the drivers/BIOS. If I have anything plugged into my USB3.0 ports on the back the PC will freeze just after the dragon logo. Unplug it and all is fine... is there something I need to set in the BIOS to fix this?
FYI: I have the BETA BIOS that was suggested in another thread

I kind of hijacked a thread so made my own. I was going to RMA it but I brought a new motherboard (and my luck it had a dead PCIE slot) so I'm back to my MSI board.
    I posted it in here : https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=174027.msg1267212#msg1267212

Load up CPUZ and see what version the PCH is revision 04 (C1) or 05 (C2).
    Mine says:
    REV. 06
    REV. C1
The weird thing is... if I unplug all the USB devices and boot then put them in again it works fine. But its massive hassle to move everything to do this.

  • Keyboard & Trackpad only work before booting, USB devices also not working

    Hi,
Yesterday I installed MacFuse and NTFS-3G because I needed to store some things on an external drive for work. I rebooted as was instructed in the install docs and that's when things got ugly.
When on the login screen I've got no keyboard or mouse. Hooking up an external keyboard and mouse didn't work either, they didn't seem to be powered from the USB ports.
Odd thing is: I can boot to safe mode or single user mode, but after letting it boot I lose keyboard again.
    Things I've tried:
    - Safe mode: keyb not working at logon screen
    - Single user mode: keyb not working at prompt
    - Zapping PRAM: Can zap PRAM, but keyb not working at logon screen
    - Resetting SMC: keyb not working at logon screen
So at first I thought this was a hardware issue (since USB devices don't get power), but since the keys work when booting up I start to wonder if it's just a software issue.
    Any thoughts on this?
EDIT: I now hooked on a mouse befor being at the login screen and it seems to get power right up until the apple logo appears (until OSX is booting I presume?). So definitely a software issue? I'll try the setup disc this evening, but I don't want to lose any data. What's the best way to do that?
Thanks in advance, by the way!

    Hi,
Same problem here after a reboot on evening of the 12th, i can boot into hardware test and no problems found, trackpad, keyboard and external USB working ok but when I boot normally, none of the above work.
I'm fairly new to MacOS but could boot as an firewire drive OK to get files off the machine?
Anyone have any starting points re drivers or prefers, I've done the PRAM, SMC reset etc, with no difference.
    Thanks

  • MBP will not boot up with USB devices connected

I have a late 2010 MBP 15 10.7.2 that will no longer boot up if any USB devices are attached. A dongle, a hub, anything. It goes to the gray screen and stays there. Disconnecting all USB devices the MBP will boot up. Then connecting the USB devices they work. It just will not boot up with anything connected to the USB ports. I have reset PRAM, SMC and fixed disk permissions. Made sure login items are ok, and start up disk is correct. I cant really say when the problem started as it worked fine before, maybe on 10.7.1? Not sure.
    Any suggestions for a fix?

I re-installed the 10.7.2 combo. It booted up with a non powered usb 4 port hub but it disabled it. Plugging it out then in again and it works. Looks like the USB firmware has changed somehow in 10.7.2, The hub works on PC's at work no problem, and it worked on the MBP without issue previously. Its not just the non powered hub its a powered hub, and other devices.
    Any solutions?

  • How can I boot to USB device if no USB boot option in BIOS

I just purchased a Toshiba NB305-N410BL but am concerned as to how I would image the 250GB HDD if I can not boot from an external cdrom drive.  I tried to backup to shared network folder but none show up on list.  Only boot options in BIOS are HDD, FDD, and LAN.  Thanks for all help in advance.

    Hi, buddy-erp.
I don't know if my instructions apply to you because I only have the NB305 model. However, if you say you have followed all instructions, that is, 1) insured that no other USB devices are connected to your computer at bootup time and 2) have pressed F12 to enter the boot menu; 3) and then designated the USB flash drive as the source of the bootable restoration software you may need Toshiba technical support. I wonder if there is a BIOS update for your computer too. This may need to be downloaded and installed prior to beginning the restoration process. Nevertheless, as stated, I have a NB305 model and the instructions are clear. FYI (for your information), a virus infected my system and made certain changes to this process. Toshiba technical support informed me that the information displayed was wrong and the process outlined was unnecessary but did require technical support to restore it to the OEM default options.
    Good luck.
    Sincerely,
    Bi-Ill
    Good luck!

  • Imac 21" mid 2011 can not boot from USB device?

    Hi,
    hope someone can help me.
Bought the new imac 21" and replaced the superdrive with a ssd drive.
Works great but it seems that the imac is not able to boot from any usb device.
I put my osx install disk in my external dvd drive and powered my mac.
While booting up (pressing cmd) the mac does not recognize my external dvd drive. This works great with my MBP late 2008. But the imac can not boot from the dvd drive. Also pressing "c" while booting does not work. Doing that a grey screen appears and after some time mac boots from hdd.
So i installed mac os via target mode over firewire withbmy old imac. This works.
But now i want to install windows on a bootcamp partition.
I can't boot from the windows 7 professional dvd, too. So i tried to create a bootable win 7 thumbdrive. Mac can't boot from this too. Reading many threads in some forum i tried with rEEfit. Reefit shows the usb thumbdrive whike booting, but using this will end in a black screen error from bios: "no bootable device....". Tried a knoppix on the usb thukbdrive, too.... No bootable device....
It seems that there is no way to boot from ANY external usb device like dvd drives or thumbdrives......
What more can i do? I tried for 2 evenings now, but nothing worked out for me......
Currently i don't see any any to install win 7 without an internal superdrive, but can this be??
    Thanks for any comments.
    Kwicks

Internal is definitely the easiest but you can boot from external HD or external optical drive, the mac is just very picky on what works and what doesn't.
For an external drive or usb stick it has to be GUID partition table and have 10.4.5 or better installed on it, for more info check this link out ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1948 )
    Hope this helps,

I have the exact same usb controller and it seems to be very buggy in linux. The output of lsusb sometimes shows 2 usb 3.0 hubs, sometimes 1 usb 3.0 hub and often no usb 3.0 at all. Also it shows a lot of usb 1.1 controllers, but my mainboard only has usb 3.0 and 2.0. Hotplugging usb 3.0 devices works, but they only run at usb 3.0 speeds and booting with plugged devices often makes them dissapear.
I recently searched for the issue and found out flashing the usb controller firmware could possibly help.
    http://askubuntu.com/questions/161862/n … untu-12-04
However you have to download the driver from a third-party website and boot a dos operating system to do the firmware flash, which held me off from doing it.

  • HT3986 Why my Boot Camp keep saying that there is no USB device connected ?

I use Mac Air, and with a external CD device. When I try to install Window 7, it keep saying that there is no USB device connected when there is.

Unfortunately not all external CD drives work the same, have you tried another cable or used another slot?
Have you tried using a USB flash drive? You should have an option now in Boot Camp Assistant to install the W7 installer onto a USB drive as well as the Boot Camp drivers.

    1. Any live CD build for Solaris 10? That's the one which can boot up from CD and run immediately.
    No installation requirement.
    2. Can Solaris 10 boot from USB devices like USB thumb?

You can find "live" CD and DVD images at OpenSolaris site: www.genunix.org/distributions/belenix_site. This OSolaris version is booted from CD/DVD drive and can be permanently installed on HD drive. Moreover You can find at this site suitable script for USB thumb preparation. However You should remember that the number of read/writes on USB thumb is limited (ca 400 and slightly more in more expensive versions).
    Good luck.

OS X installers have always been fairly specific, hardware-wise. I haven't read anything reflecting that situation with the Recovery HD, so it may be that the Recovery HD created for the MacBook Pro does not have the necessary drivers for the Mac Pro. Obviously, nothing definitive here, but a possibility.

  • Why do I need to unplugg all USB devices every time I want to boot up my pc?

Hello, recently I came across this weird problem where i need to unplug my usb devices every time I want to boot up my PC. I've disabled the "boot from usb" option in the BIOS however it didn't fix it. This issue is on my HP elite 8300 CMT. Any help will be appreciated thanks in advance.

Typically what happens - one device causes the problem.  If you find the offending device by doing one device at a time, perhaps it will be something that you do not really need all the time.  I had a USB printer that would prevent proper bootup or shut down, so just left it disconnected most of the time.
