NO USB Only Internet Tethering after upgrade to OS4?

I have discovered that I can no longer do internet tethering using the USB only tethering connection since I upgraded to OS4. This used to work perfectly well up until then as I used it quite extensively while travelling. When using the USB Internet Tethering only the message I get in the Network Preferences is that the iPhone USB is not connected or the device is not responding!
Very annoying and surprising that such a defect got through the QA cycle!

1) any recommended solutions?
If you have AppleCare, you have free support. It might be a good idea to check with the factory to get the latest information.
2) how can i get the previous firmware back?
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click on the word "Version" about 3 lines down
A window will open to display available firmware
Click OK, then click Continue
Some users are reporting that this option is not available, so I cannot tell you in advance whether this will work for you.

No internet tethering after 3.1 update

After updated version 3.1, the internet tethering in setting was disappeared. Is it normal? And what should I do to connect my iPhone with my mac?

It took Apple more than 2 weeks to answer my question, but today they did it by phone. My question was, why I cannot use my officially unlocked iPhone from Italy for "tethering" since i upgraded to firmware 3.1.
The new answer is this:
"We deactivated the tethering option, because lots of users did mistakes in configuring tethering. Due to this mistakes these users got very high bills from their providers for using tethering. To avoid this we stopped tethering also for unlocked iPhones, because we know that everything works fine with our official partners only...bla,bla,bla...But your provider can send you a signed profile to reactivate tethering...bla bla bla...of course we give signed profiles only to our official partners...bla bla bla...yes a jailbreak could solve your problem..."
Isn`t it nice that Apple cares for our wallets? THANKS APPLE! I hope in Firmware 3.2 you will block the ability of iPhone to send SMS or even to make phone calls. This would help my wallet even more! Please APLLE - continue this way.

Plug-in stopped working in Internet Explorer after upgrade to JDK 1.4.2

I've been struggling with this one for a week now with no success, hope someone can help. I have Windows 2000, SP4, IE5.5, everything was working fine with the initial installation of JRE 1.3.2, then upgrades to 1.3.4, 1.3.7, 1.4.1 and finally 1.4.2. An applet forced an install of 1.3.1_07, and it stopped working, I uninstalled both 1.3.1_07 and 1.4.2 and reinstalled 1.3.1_07, and since then I get a dialog with the message:
Cannot load class sun/plugin/JavaRunTime.
The Bridge was installed at <C:\PROGRA~1\JavaSoft\JRE\1.37DB1~1.1_0> but the class is not there
Modify the registry key to reflect the new bridge location
The key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Plug-in
or change your CLASSPATH to include the new directory

And the dialog title says "Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4 Fatal Error"
BUT 1.4 is uninstalled and totally GONE!
I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times, numerous versions of JDK/JRE, always with the same basic result. Any attempts to install 1.4.x (either JRE or JDK) give this dialog PLUS a series of little dialogs with the header "asdas", and the message "register failk". I've looked through the forums and buglists for this same problem and found a few mentions of it, but there never seems to be any solution given.
And by the way, Mozilla 1.4 works perfectly with all the plug-in versions I've installed.
I'm beginning to believe there's a conspiracy....

I found my own solution to this one after many more hours of frustration. I found that there was a toolbar applet installed in Internet Explorer that started its own private JVM, and that JVM was being seen by the plugin code for 1.3.1_07. Apparently there was some conflict between what the plugin code expected and what that private JVM (not sure what version it was, the code had no mention of it) had to offer, which caused the crash dialog. Uninstalling the toolbar (and its parent application) solved the problem. I may do further testing to see if there are any plugin versions that do work with this particular applet.
It is also still a mystery why this problem only cropped up after installing and uninstalling 1.4.x version of the plugin, but I didn't keep close track of the whole sequence so it may have been coincidental.

No Internet connection after upgrade to Win 10 with Dell XPS Fixed

After upgrading from windows 8.1 to 10 on my dell I had no internet connectivity.The answer is that the update reset the driver to default mode. Specifically bandwidth.Go to control panel / device manager / WiFi cardgo to device / properties - Advancedselect bandwidth and change from 20 only to 20/40 auto.

It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
1) Use the AirPort/Wi-Fi menu bar item to turn AirPort/Wi-Fi off, then on again.
2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort/Wi-Fi menu.
3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort/Wi-Fi item from the left column, then add it back.
4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
5) In the same panel, select the AirPort/Wi-Fi connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease". Note that the fix this step implements may be temporary.
6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( _not_ <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try. Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them. If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.

Loss of internet connectivity after upgrading to windows 8.1

Hi, After upgrading to windows 8.1 from windows 8 i am experiencing major problems , loss of internet connectivity for no reason both I.E. and G/CHROME are now taking an age to open there are no virus issues as far as i can see.
I have uninstalled and re-installed windows 8.1 about four times over the past 9 months or so and the same thing happens after all the updates are in it runs like a dream for say 6weeks or so then i get the same faults as described above then i uninstall/ re-install ok for 6 weeks .

I understand that after updating to Windows 8.1 about every 6 weeks you loose wireless connectivity for no reason and the web pages are very slow to open. If you uninstall and reinstall Windows 8.1 it works fine again for about the same amount of time. You have done this about 4 times with the same result each time.
Do you know if there is any changes at that time , perhaps an update?

After upgrading to iOS 7.1.2 on my iPad Retina display does not connect to the internet more. Recognizes the Wi-Fi network but can not connect to the internet. The same thing happened to my wife's iPhone 5s, while my had no problems ...

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. Two obvious troubleshooting techniques are to delete and re-install the printer driver (or updating printer driver) and fixing the installation of Acrobat. Have you given those a try?

Logitech USB Speakers not working after upgrade to Yosemite

After upgrading my MacBook Air to Yosemite, my Logitech Z305 USB speaker no longer work. In fact, it isn't even recognized in the Output list in Sound in the System Preferences. It worked nearly all the time with Mavericks, with an occasional need for a system reboot if no sound was coming out, but it was always displayed under the Output tab regardless.
I just killed the coreaudiod process in the Activity Monitor, but this didn't do anything of note.
Any ideas of what has to happen for these speakers to work again?

M-audio omnistudio usb no longer works after upgrade to mountain lion

hello. has anyone encountered this problem. after upgrading my intel imac to 10.8, i have discovered that my m-audio omnistudio usb is no longer recognized. i have changed the usb cable and reinstalled the last current driver for the hardware, but still nothing. would like to get it running again as that is what my studio monitors are running thru. i can't play my piano(m-audio studio 88) anymore. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

It appears that ML no longer supports 32bit applications at all.
Therefore, you have 2 options:
1) Use the built in VPN client, you will need your IT's help for this as it requires the group name and password of your VPN server. You can configure it by going to System Preferences -> Network and 'adding' an VPN (Cisco IPSec) interface. I haven't had much luck with it, it works sometimes and sometimes it fails, but other people swear by it.
2) Move over to the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client, which does support 64bit. This will also require your IT department as they need to configure the SSL/AnyConnect VPN on the VPN device itself. I went to this method yesterday and it's worked out great so far.

after the upgrade to OS4, my BMW can not sync the contacts, call information and other things via bluetooth. With OS 3.x, everything was fine.

Thanks, but as I've said I've tried all of that described in the reference you've kindly given. I don't have a local cache, and hence no PST files. The only one I have is an OST file which I have checked for integrity using the Microsoft supplied tools. I have switched to local PST (a suggestion given in another thread), and found that not to work either, so have switched back to non cached. I have even renamed the OST file to .BAK, and had it rebuilt. Again to no avail. There is a bona fide bug here. The http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306635 article does only say "This may be due to the format of the Outlook Personal Storage File (.PST)", so I guess as the operative word is "may", its not a guarantee of this being the solution.
Also I'm not syncing my contacts, I'm only doing the calendar nothing else.
Additionally, this used to work, so your hypothesis, of the "bad data", being synced in 7.6 and then not being able to be subsequently budged is a definate goer I think. But the trick would be to work out what the bad data is. I'm assuming the source of the bad data is the iphone, so I've deleted old calendar in outlook entries I know to have come from the iPhone, that has, as yet, been a fruitless exercise.
I do thank you though for your help though, I'll be scouring the internet for any tidbits of information which might help, and I'll post them back here if I find the solution, or anything which may help others unfortunate enough to be in this situation.

IPod App quits unexpectedly after upgrade to OS4...?

Does anyone know what to do about this:
iPod App starts up and stays on screen for 2-3 seconds and then just quits. Also my podcasts from previously are no longer there - that's ok with me but may not be a good sign...?

P.S. By the way the recent updates to iTunes/iPod with IOS4 and Snowleapard/itunes have taken iTunes a quantum leap forward for those looking to use it for Classical music. Can't sync photos, songs to iPhone 3G after upgrade to OS4

I’m using iPhone 3G. Just restored and upgraded to OS4. All my songs, contacts, calendar could be backup to my iPhone after the upgrade. Then, I downloaded some eBooks with my iPhone. But when I tried to sync the iPhone with iTunes 9.2 one day after the upgrade, no new eBook records shown on iTunes, no calendar updated on Outlook and on photos were sync to iPhone after the backup process. It seems that iTunes only performed backup but no data synchronization was done.
Can anyone help me? I can’t transfer songs, photos to iPhone. Please help. Thanks.

I have a similar, but slightly different issue. Also on an iPhone 3G. Some of my stuff synced, but not all of it. I've got my apps, my contacts, calendar, eBooks, and my pictures, but not my TV shows, movies, music, etc. And when I try to add them back into iTunes (File: Add file to Library), then select them to sync by selecting my iPhone under Devices in iTunes and clicking the Sync Movies box, then selecting the movies I want to sync, and clicking Apply... it says, "The iPhone "My iPhone" is synced with another iTunes Libary. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes Library?"
I don't! And my iPhone is not synced with another iTunes Libary. What can I do?

I'm having problems with Notes after upgrade to OS4. Anyone else?

After upgrading mu iphone 3GS to the new OS4, I'm having serious problems with my Notes. If I edit old notes and klick Done, it now takes longer then ever to save. And when the save is finished, my latest edits are gone! The note is back to the text before I opened it up for editing...
Has enyone experienced this after upgrading?
Also, why does it take such a long time so save the notes now? I can see in the "progress bar" the phone is connecting to the Internet after klicking Done. Why is that? It never did that before. Does the new OS4 save all notes on some sort of server instead of just saving on my phone? Can I shut this function off somehow?
