No utilities option while trying to reboot OS X

Hi everyone,
First off, I am Mac stupid, so bare with me.  I'm trying to resell my Mac Mini but I want to wipe the hard drive.  I'm putting the install DVD in, hitting C, and everything pops up normally.  But I am NOT getting the utilities option on the top of my screen to wipe it clean and reinstall Leopard that way.  Can I do this on desktop mode?  If so, after wiping the HD clean, will it automatically prompt me to insert the DVD and reload the OS X that way?
Also, I am not signed out of my desk top.  Would this affect why the utlility option is not showing up?
Thank you!

Nevermind, I'm an idiot.  Had it hooked up to my TV and the screen resolution wasn't right.  Derp.

  • I cant see bluetooth option while trying to transfer media files.

    Hi all,
I have a Blackberry Torch 9810 with OS 7. I dont know what happened but all of a sudden I am unable to send files through bluetooth. I cant see any option of bluetooth in the send options menu.
I tried to deseclect port service in the bluetooth options and saved it. Againg selected port service and saved it. I also restarted my device while doing this. But still I am unable to send files via bluetooth.
Can some one help me please. Thank you.

Please restart the phone by removing and placing the battery back while the device is ON. This process fixes the application modules in it without losing any data stored. Let us know if you still experience the issue after this.

  • Missing options while trying to change wireless ch...

    Hello,
The problem is as above really.  Got a hub 1.5 running version 6.2.6.E.
I've signed in and clicked the advanced menu button on the left and then entered my password but then the munu options on the left dont have the extra ones shown on the youtube video just the basic ones down to 'troubleshooting'?
My laptops and the mac can all 'see' the hub but cant actually connect to it!  This seems to happen every 3 or 4 months and everytime I have had to ring BT and it's starting to get very annoying!
Can anyone help as at the moment I have 2 stroppy teenagers and a frustrated wife who all want to surf but cant while we have to share the one ethernet cable!!!!

It really shouldn't make on iota of difference that your using a Mac. I use Ubuntu Linux and have no problems. The BT support line ( Same as everyone elses) will simply say "We don't support that platform" which simply means they haven't had a Muppetry script written for them for your O/s.

  • After updating my iPad 3 from iOS 7.0.6 to 7.1 I can't do anything.  It constantly reboots while trying to restore backup.  Epic Fail!

My attempts to update my ipad 3 to IOS 7.1 via iTunes on my Mac Pro has essentially bricked it.  I carefully made a backup before doing the update but its of little use.  The iPad installs the firmware update and reboots and asks about the backup to restore and begins the sync.  But, it reboots about 20 times while trying to restore the beast.
It is a 64 gb ipad and was pretty full so retrying to restore from backup is taking 6 hours each time.  Maddening!
I've spent months setting it up.  The thought of restoring as NEW is so depressing.
The initial attempt I did over night was just unusable this morning.  I couldn't get past the Apple Logo.  I finally gave up and put it into recovery mode and redid it a second time.  It must have rebooted 20 times while copying all the apps and media back.  It made it but was then useless again after being disconnected from the Mac.
I then tried once again and aborted it after it was rebooting again constantly during the restore from backup.
It seems to be OK thru the firmware install but it can't seem to use my backup.  I'm going to try and restore as NEW just to see if it will work at all.  At that point maybe I'll try and manually restore the backup so I don't lose all that organization.
Anyone got any better ideas?  I'm refusing to thing about "upgrading" my iphone 5 until I see how this comes out....
    goose

    Slone,
I finally decided to turn this annoyance into an opportunity.  After a lot of experimenting I found that my iPad was just fine under 7.1 if I simply restored it as new.  I have a lot of time on my hands and I had 1424 apps on my iPad!  This is why every attempt to restore took so long.
I decided to restore as new, spend a day restoring the apps I really used.  Doing so gave me a quick iPad with only bout a quarter of the storage used.
Granted it was a pain in the arse, but I wrote it off as in the old days when you had to do this with windows 95 just to keep a stable system.
I DO have some data in a few files of the now unused backup but a quick google search finds a couple Mac programs out there that will allow you go extract audio recordings, app data files etc. from the backup.  I'll do that someday if I even miss the files I've probably forgotten that are there.
Anyway, there was nothing wrong with my hardware.  I think there were just some troublesome setup items that 7.1 didn't like.  Once set up as new, the ipad was fine.
    Good luck!

  • How can I get my serial number while I'm rebooting?

I'm trying to reboot my MacBook Pro because it had many problems and things i didn't need but when I try to install OS X Mavericks with my apple id (which is the final step into rebooting your mac) it says "OS X Mavericks has not been purchased" when it has been purchased because I used it on my Mac before I decided to reboot.
Besides that I'm trying to chat with the apple support group to fix the problem becuase I can't finish rebooting but i need my serial number but I can't get it while rebooting. The only option I have when clicking the apple icon is
    Startup Disk
    Restart
    Shut down
Can anyone explain how I can my seial number?

When you are booted into the Recovery HD (This is where you see the option to Install OS X, Run Disk Utility, etc)
If you look on top, you will see a Utilities menu. Click on that and select Terminal.
In the Terminal, type in the following code and then hit enter.

I've seen articles referring to the Windows Software Licensing Rearm program may have issues running more than three times in a single Windows image and to add <SkipRearm>1</SkipRearm> in the /unattend file...  but this did not help.
The Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service has also been disabled which is often referred to in other posts.
The KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947212/en-us indicated that the resolution is to re-create the image for the machine... This is very frustrating. I'm hoping that there is
    a better resolution???
How do you sysprep a machine more than three times to avoid this error?
    Thanks!!

How and where did you change which permissions? And what was the goal?
Do you have a complete backup of your system? and more importantly data files?
What happened that prompted the need to reinstall the 10.6.8 update?
The immediate road forward would be to boot from the optical drive and revert the changes you made.
What happens when you boot with the install cd and hold down C or hold down the option key?

  • Get error when trying to upgrade to IOS5 - An error occured while trying to Back up ipad  -402653138

    Help
I am trying to upgrade to IOS5 and i cant get past the backup step of the upgrade - I keep getting An error occured while trying to Back up ipad  (-402653138).  I have tried removing my current backup and letting the update do the backup but still get same message.
I also get a warning right when I start the upgrade process that says I have purchased apps that have not been transfered and wants to know if I want to continue???  Not sure why I get this warning - I have ran the transfer purchases option several times and it seems to work.  However, if I go under store and look at the purchases for my ipad it dosnt show any???  I would assume it should?
I have tried syncing and backing up, rebooting, all latest versions of itunes, etc.
Any ideas or help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Erik

I took a leap of faith and finally got the update with no issues.  Here's what I did:
First did yet another backup.  Next, disabled all anti-virus and anything related (running Norton 360).  Next, turned off Home Sharing.
Instead of "Update" I selected "Restore".  Followed prompts as though I wanted to restore and update. Selected my latest backup and off it went.  First did the wipe, then ios5 update, then restarted and began to sync.  Sync took about 2 hours as I have lots of apps, photos and some TV shows I forgot were on there.
In the end, I had the exact same configuration.  All apps on their pages as before the update, all folders intact and even all game scores and data from apps.  Hurray!
Now just going through the App update process of the many (85) that showed up in App Store icon.
    Hope this helps!

  • Getting an error message (-5000) while trying to backup my iphone4 that says i will lose all content if i continue

getting an error message while trying to backup my IPhone 4 that says i will lose all content if i continue. error message is (-5000). what does this mean and how do i fix the problem?

Well, when you click on "update" and it goes partway through and then says it can't continue that does look somewhat error-like to me. :-).  I did do a synch when I first plugged  the iPad into my desktop, but had to upgrade iTunes and reboot before upgrading the iPad OS, so everything should be backed up.  I hope!  I don't know how to check on whether things like my appointments or files that I have created get saved in a synch.  Selecting each of my pictures and emailing them to myself is an option, I guess.
I am new to the apple world and the thought of losing six month's worth of stuff is intimidating.  If only I knew which things would get lost, I'd be able to work with it.
    Thanks!
