No VGA or DVI input signal

I recently found my old HP Pavilion a6228x after 2 months of not using it, and hooked it up to my w1907 monitor with a vga cable. It says that there is no VGA or DVI input signal, with the black arrow pointing at DVI. I can't switch from DVI to VGA because everytime I press the menu button, the screen will say "Monitor going to sleep." The monitor works fine with my laptop and the same vga cable. Help?

Since the monitor and cable are known to be good then make sure that you are plugging the video card into the video card's VGA port if a a video card is installed. If the video card has a DVI port then use a native DVI cable between the monitor and the video card.
If there is a video card in your PC then try reseating it (remove and replace). If that doesn't work then remove the video card and plug the VGA cable into the motherboard's VGA port.
Only connect one active video feed to the monitor.
Try a monitor reset. Unplug the monitor’s power cord and hold down the monitor’s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up.

VGA/DVI Input

The monitor I use for my PC just went up in smoke, and I'm wondering:
Is there any way I can allow my iMac's display to accept VGA or DVI input? I don't use my PC that often, and the amount I'm willing to invest in a new monitor would only fetch me something mediocre. BAH! I already love my iMac Display and it requires so little desk space...
I'm thinking of something like a USB or FireWire device that acts sort of like a KVM switch, allowing me to switch between my Mac/PC instantly. Could something this simple and useful possibly exist?

It works great. A few catches, but nothing major:
1.) have to set the IBM to a static IP on your network and use that as the login
2.) works for free on windows XP Pro. Not sure if they sell the option on the others or not.
3.) This is kinda funny, you have to have a password on your user and login, then the network shows up and the computer works.
Basically you need to borrow an older IBM CRT (most people give them away) to set it up and then you can use the mac. I just set a standard password I can easily type in.
In fact, it is like 100000% better than virtual PC for mac, because it actually runs the IBM and just transmits the info through the network (most are atleast 100Mbs)

VGA vs DVI with regards to projectors

I have recently purchased a BENQ MP620 DLP projector to use as a home cinema and for my artwork. It is running off the VGA port of my Mac and produces a very good picture as is. However, is it worth running it off the DVI port; will there be a noticeable improvement in picture quality? I also use a LaCie 22" monitor on the VGA port and having to swap the cables is a pain. I know I could buy a VGA splitter but a bit more money could buy a DVI cable instead. Having blown my money on the projector I am a little strapped for cash at the moment! I definitely can't afford a new graphics card...

Is someone could help me that would be great. I have a monitor that suppirts both VGA and DVI inputs. I want o use a DVI input but my computer only supports a VGA output, so I need a new graphics card. Could someone please recommend a good graphics card that would be compatible with my computer. My computer is a Gateway GT5674 with a AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core Processor 2.20 GHz, 3GB RAM and 32 Bit Operating system. Right mow it has a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce430 graphics card. Thanks

upgrade with the 8000 series graphics, your computer i think comes with a 300watt power supply so you shouldn't need to spend any more money. i think the highest you can go is 8600gt/gs for the best quality.
if you don't play games 8400 is enough. even for high definition viewing.
if you play games, go with 8600gt/gts.
if you play games and want to go with the best picture possible, go with the 8800gt/gts (if you can still find one) u can find those really cheap now and they're actually like the best graphics card you can get for the money.
if you don't have a budget limit, you can get the gtx260/280 and upgrade the power supply to 600 watt or more.

Hp pavilion elite m9690a turns off input signal randomly after boot up

I have a pavilion elite m9690 running off of windows vista which recently (there have been no changes) begun switching off all input signals to the screen. Although the pc activation light and the pc are still on it then does not respond to the mouse, keyboard or switching source from hdmi to VGA leaving no input signals to the screen. When turned off then on again it regains input signal to the screen. The timing can be during startup or as late as 15 minutes of operation. I have plugged my l laptop into the screen and this never switches off on hdmi or VGA. I have made no changes to the pc but had some issues with heat a month ago.

Input signal out of range with HDMI to VGA adapter LE1901w

Hi!
Recently I acquired an LE1901w monitor to use as second screen. I'm trying to connect it to my Toshiba u925 using an HDMI to VGA adapter (because neither the monitor has a HDMI port nor the notebook has a VGA output).
I'm getting the message "input signal out of range" asking to change to 1440x920 @ 60Hz and it keeps showing until the monitor goes to sleep even when I change the settings as per requested.
I have an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 and i'm using the default Windows monitor drivers for Windows 8.1

I understand that you are getting the message "Input Signal Out Of Range" and it is asking you to change to 1440x920 @ 60 Hz. I suspect this is a driver issue and you will need to ensure that your drivers are up to date on your computer. Just to be sure I would recommend if you could to move the HP LE1901W monitor to another computer and ensure that you do not have the problem there. Mac Mini to Samsung LE37R87BDX 37" VGA to Pc Input - No Display

I have a mac mini 1.66 Intel running 10.4.11, into which I've got the VGA adapter plugged, this is cabled with a VGA cable into my nice new Samsung LE37R8 flat panel LCD on the pc port.
The image flicks up briefly, but then it goes black and it won't display.
Connect the same machine up running windows XP under boot camp and bingo, it works beautifully.
Oh and I've tried a windows pc running xp as well and that displays also, so I'm pretty much convinced there's nothing wrong with the tv or the cable.
I think it must be the Os settings..
The odd thing is that I can remote desktop to the mac mini and it detects the display correctly, as far as I can see, even listing 'Samsung' as the colour profile and the changing the resolution to a supportable (well, as far as I can see from the tv's manual) to 1366x768 at 75hz.
I've tried changing the resolution, 1024x768, 800x600 etc etc, changed the frequency to 60, but to no avail.
Anyone got any ideas?

I am having an identical issue with an intel dual core mac mini and a 50" plasma Samsung TV (PS50Q97HD). I've sucesfully connected my mac to a 17" LCD monitor with the DVI-VGA adapter and I've connected a windows XP laptop to the Samsung TV using a VGA cable.... but I have had no success with the mac to Samsung connection. Using 23" Cinema Display and VGA to DVI adapter??

I have 4 computers (2 deskop PCs, 1 IBM thinkpad laptop and 1 MAC). I have a DVI switcher. 3 of my PCs work great. My IBM thinkpad (T23) has an old style DVI connector on it that I cannot use (I thought I could until I got the Apple Monitor). I have tried a passive (no power) VGA to DVI adapter...but the monitor just ignores the signal. Do I need to purchase a $299 powered VGA to DVI adapter? I was thinking of looking for a PCMCIA (PC Card) video card with DVI out for my laptop, but havn't found anything when searching via google. Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

The VGA to DVI adapter sounds like it's just an adapter that re-routes the pins to make the cables connect. The DVI connector can carry both analog and digital signals, so all the adapter would do is make a VGA cable with its analog signal go into a DVI cable that still carries the same analog signal. If that's the case, it won't work with the Apple display since the Apple display doesn't accept an analog VGA input even if you get the cables and adapters to hook it up. So yes, you would need the expensive VGA to DVI "converter" rather than just an "adapter".

Pavilion h8-1128 w/Radion HD 6750: VGA disables DVI!!!

I need to run 2 SAMSUNG monitors of of my h8-1128 that came with an Eyefinity Radion HD6570.
Operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
Both monitors support DVI and VGA inputs. The HD6570 has DVI-I, HDMI, and DisplayPort outputs, and a DVI to VGA dongle.
After looking into cables a bit, I located this cable:

That appeared to do what I santed by splitting the 6570's DVI connector's digital and analog signals into appropriate connectors.
I connected the cable to the graphics card, then connected the DVI-D male connector to the 1st monitor and verified operation. Next I connected the VGA connector to the 2nd monitor and turned it on. Immediately the DVI connected monitor's screen went black, altho the monitor did not indicate signal loss, and the VGA connected monitor came on & displayed the desktop as the primary monitor!
The screen resolution window only showed the VGA connected monitor as a generic plugNplay monitor. When that same monitor was connected using the DVI->VGA dongle that came with the system the monitor is correctly identified as a SAMSUNG 245BW.
I could not get the screen resolution window to recognize the DVI connected monitor until I disconnected the VGA cable from it's monitor.
Is this expected operation? I thought the VGA analog signaling was independent of the DVI-D signaling?

Use the DVI->VGA dongle on the 6570's DVI connector with a VGA cable to the monitor that's being shared with the CATV box, then either a HDMI to DVI cable, or a DisplayPort to DVI cable.

Monitor "no input signal"

When I turn on the computer and the monitor, the monitor does not recognize a signal from the computer. I have tried restarting the monitor and the computer, unplugging all cables including the power cables and reconnecting, I re-seated the graphics card, I tried using the VGA cable, but the monitor still seemed to be trying to recognize a DVI connection, even though the VGA cable was plugged in. Right after I turn on the monitor it says:
VGA input, no input signal
> DVI input, no input signal
recommended setting, 1680x1050
After about 2 seconds it goes to sleep and that is it. No mouse clicks or keyboard strikes bring the monitor back. I know of no way to change any settings, reinstall drivers, etc. , because I cannot get the monitor to work, so I am effectively blind, whenever I want to test something out I have to manually shut down the computer and turn it on again. I encountered this problem in the past, and after much frustration and unplugging/re-connecting, the problem seemed to magically solve itself, but now it is back and nothing seems to work. The frustrating part is that it seems random, this started happening a few days ago when I tried turning on my computer.

Going to the control panel and turning off the monitor's power saving mode utility fixed this problem for me. Only four years of putting up with "no input" on an ugly black and white screen before I figured that out!

TB 500: use VGA or DVI w/adapter?

I need to add an ext. LCD to an original TiBook 500. Does it make any difference in PQ if I get a PCMCIA/DVI card instead of using the VGA port? Thanks.

Hi, Philip. What display make and model do you intend to use? Does it have both DVI-in and VGA-in ports?
I wouldn't expect a DVI adapter to make any difference in the quality of the signal being sent to the display by the Powerbook's internal video. If the DVI card you're considering is a full-fledged video card in its own right, and generates a DVI signal independent of the built-in VGA video circuitry in the Powerbook, then I'd expect a better picture on the external display than if you simply connected it to the Powerbook's VGA port.
Other things to consider:
A PCMCIA-slot video card would tie up that slot and prevent you from using it for any other purpose (that would make such a card a nonstarter for me, but of course your needs may be quite different). But in a Powerbook, the MC Card slot is the only place to add a second video card.
A PCMCIA-slot video card would probably generate quite a bit of heat, in a part of your Powerbook that isn't very effectively cooled because most PC cards don't require much cooling. I'd expect the internal fan to run much more of the time, and I'd make sure the Powerbook was only used in well-ventilated, comfortably cool workplaces.
A PCMCIA-slot DVI video card would probably improve picture quality dramatically on a high-quality external display such as Apple's — which outperform all others I've ever seen. Whether it would have an equal effect on an inexpensive third-party display, I'm not sure. A cheap, low-end third-party display might restrict your maximum picture quality more severely than the connection protocol or even the quality of the input signal does.

Hp pavilion shows no input signal?

I have a Hp pavilion p6208f that came with 6GB RAM and 500GB Hard drive. It's about two years old and has both windows 7 and Ubuntu on it. Anyway the problem I've been having is when i turn on the computer it shows no input signal on the monitor. I use a VGA cord and nothing is wrong with it because I plugged it up to my laptop and the laptop info shows on the pc monitor. It had the same issue about two months ago so I bought a new video card ( a Nvidia Geforce210) and all worked well until a few days ago. A few days ago the pc started acting up again and displaying the no input message. After messing with the video card and jiggling it around I got it to work two nights but last night nothing worked.
Heres the things I've already tried from looking at other posts:
Did a hard restart. (unplugged power cord and held power button a little over a minute)
Took out video card and hard drive, and put them back in.
jiggled the video card around plenty in case it was just getting a bad connection
Hooked up VGA cord to laptop to make sure that wasn't the problem
Clean out the fans (the fans and everything work just fine still)
Turned the monitor off and on to make see if showed VGA active
The only thing i did not do was try a DVI cord plugged into it because I do not have one right now.
Anyone have or had the same problem? I'm hoping the video part of the motherboard is not going out, but could that be what's happening?

Try the onboard graphic - so you can check it very easily.
Take out the additional card for this - graphics driver are nvidia?
If the vga port is covered, just uncover it - without graphics card you should get a video signal from the internal gpu port.
If you see no bios and nothing - is the pc reacting like he's booting up?
If no, then you have a problem with the internal gpu or maybe also with the memory.
Have you tried to use only one RAM?
Have you already re-seated them?

Monitor does not come on due to no input signal. Monitor is hp w2207. Hp media center pc m 260 N.

Desktop PC is connected correctly but monitor indicates no input signal & monitor goes to sleep mode. All my wireless laptops work ok. Does this have anything to do with wireless setup?

Although it appears the computer model name is incomplete, I assume you mean a HP Media Center m260n Desktop Computer. Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion w2207 LCD wide-screen flat panel monitor. The computer supports VGA only, unless you have previously installed an 8x AGP graphics card. The monitor supports both VGA and DVI-D.
The first step in troubleshooting this issue would be to connect the monitor to a known working computer using the same VGA cable. Does the monitor work??? Yes... could be the computer, No... could be the monitor or the cable. Next, connect the computer to another known working monitor with the same VGA cable. Does the monitor display a picture??? Yes, computer is good, No... computer or cable is bad. Post the results if you need more assistance.

No Input Signal to Monitor

Previously I had may Mac Mini being displayed through my HD Television. I have since moved it into an office. Before moving, I used the Mini DVI adapter and the cable was DVI to HDMI into the television. Now, I am trying to hook it up using the display port adapter to DVI, with an adapter on the DVI part that allows me to use a VGA cable to hook the monitor up. Each time I try and hook it up, the monitor keeps giving me a "No Input Signal" message. Am I losing the signal when I attach the adapter that allows me to use the VGA cable? Never attached an adapter to an adapter, but I know the monitor works because I hooked it to another computer and it works just fine. The VGA cable works just fine too. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, it came with one, but got a display port adapter because both our laptops have the display ports rather than the Mini-DVI ports. Wanted to try and get something that was more usable for each Apple product we have, that way I avoid having to buy more "stuff" specific to each computer. I guess I will have to try and just get a DVI/VGA cable to avoid the adapter issues. Thanks!
