No Video Images Appear In iMovie Import Window

My Vixia hv 30 mini DV is connected and recognized, and when I choose to import video manually, and hit the iMovie Import button, the video plays on the camera screen but not in the iMovie import window on my iMac. Nor does the counter move, although a large message in the iMovie window says "importing". The camera's counter in the upper right hand corner of the window counts off, but not the counter next to the controls at the bottom of the window. A file name is created in the Event Library, but there is nothing in the file when I click it.
I have tried importing segments of all sizes and lengths to see if there was an issue there but no video appears on the iMovie screen, and there is no message that thumbnails are being created.
I have watched tutorials online to see if I am missing something but I have found no answers. I was able to import a one-minute segment automatically a few days ago when I first got the camera, but now Automatic does not work. It begins to import, with no images appearing in the iMovie import window and no movement in the counter, then after a few seconds the "Importing" message changes to "Stopped"
In my 'Save To" window, it says I have "5.7GB free/25 min.)" on my Mac's HD.

I found that this was due to my tape having been recorded on an older DV camcorder rather than an HDV. You'd think either iMovie or the Canon Vixia would simply tell you that in plain language, rather than give you the kind of cryptic meaningless message that the camera displays.
If you have this problem, go into the camera menu and make sure the format —DV or HDV— matches the content on your tape.

  • Deleted video shows up in the iMovie import window

    Hello,
I recorded a video with my iphone 5 which I have since deleted. Every time I connect my iPhone to my Mac and open iMovie import window, the deleted video shows up. How can I permanently delete the video so, that it will be no longer visible in the iMovie iMoore window nor any other place?
    Thanks in advance

I have noticed the exact same issue. I have an iPhone 5s running iOS 8 (latest update). There are about 8 videos I've made and subsequently deleted over the last nine months. They do not appear in Photos. They are not offered as downloadable when connected to the iMac with iPhoto running. However, if I connect the phone to the iMac with the iMovie application open (on the iMac, running Yosemite), then iMovie offers to import all of these supposedly deleted videos! I just want to reclaim whatever space is being taken up by these.
I have tried resetting the iPhone to factory settings, but when it syncs with iTunes and restores from backup, the videos return. How do I delete these videos?! Anyone?

Do your images show, if you disable the option "Do not import duplicates"? If yes, then check, if the images have already been imported, eg. using Photo Stream, if you are using Aperture 3.3 or later.

  • TS3719 Video not appearing in iMovie video

I have lot of video files on my iPad 4 video but they are not appearing through iMovie software.

iMovie can see video from the photos app.
It does not see or able to edit video from the movies app.
So are you saying that you can see the video in the photos app, but iMovie does not see them?

  • How to make iPhoto video clips appear in iMovie 11 under "iPhoto Videos"

I use photo camera to shoot both stills and videos these days. I would like to just see all my clips in iMovie.
I tried to use Import but it is very painful to use as iMovie PRETENDS it knows nothing about iPhoto photo library. So monkying around and drugging clips out of iPhoto "bundle" is huge hustle.
Is there is a streamline way?
Apple historically make hard to do, I even had to use iMovie HD and Handbreak to to all these conversion, but I just want things to work: I want to make a cool clip to share from my iPhoto library clips.
Is there is a easy way to do it?

Normally, any compatible clips in iPhoto show up in iMovie in the Events Library under the category "iPhoto Videos". You will see this item at the top of the list in the Events Library. Clicking on it will reveal thumbnails for each clip in the Events Browser (to the right of the listing). Are you not seeing this?
If this is not the issue, you could try converting the iPhoto clips by using a program such as MPEG Streamclip. If recognised by Streamclip, convert the clips to either H.264 or AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) and import the converted file into iMovie. Both these formats work well with iMovie - AIC is in fact the codec that iMovie converts AVCHD clips to in order to edit efficiently at the individual frame level.
MPEG Streamclip is a free program downloadable here:

PS. Regarding the conversion, I notice that you've already tried iMovie HD and Handbrake - sorry! Perhaps MPEG Streamclip will do this more efficiently.

  • New iPhoto Videos stopped appearing in iMovie (and media Browser too)

I only recently discovered the usefulness of viewing iPhoto videos in iMovie, simplifying the process to editing my videos.
However recently my videos have stopped appearing. I am using Leopard 10.5.6 and the videos are captured using a Powershot SD750 camera into an AVI format. up until the 12/12 the videos appeared fine, and I am sure that I haven't changed anything. The iPhoto library is stored on a NAS drive. Which does seem to lose connection on a regular basis, causing me to need to choose the library in iPhoto again.
When I launch iMovie it used to ask about loading the Iphoto videos though I have not seen this dialogue recently.
I also notive that in the media browser iDVD or web upload these particular videos are not shown.
I would be grateful for any help...
    Thanks,
    Richard

Suddenly today, this is working fine, not sure why, as I had rebooted the machine several times to try and resolve...
If anyine has any ideas as to why, I would appreciate it. When I opened iMovie today I saw the dialogue that had been missing:

And when it was complete the missing videos were shown.

  • Images Previews in LR5 Import window extremely slow to render compared to LR4.  Size is Minimal

The images are there but the previews take forever to show up.  Any ideas?

It's a bug, it's been reported. Workaround for me is to select the card reader where it's listed further down the Source panel under "Files" rather than the default under "Devices".

  • Images appear in reverse on iMovie '08 video screen.

How do I reverse the video images appearing on the iMovie preview screen?
When using my iSight camera to import video directly into iMovie '08, objects appear in reverse. i.e. When I wave my right hand in front of the camera, it appears on the left side of the screen.
When I'm not using iMovie, the images appear correctly on the iSight Screen.

    Nope: optical illusion!
When you use your iSight camera with, for example, iChat or PhotoBooth, the images are reversed, so that you look the same to yourself as you do when you look in a mirror.
"..When I wave my right hand in front of the camera, it appears on the left side of the screen.." ..yes; that's how you look to other people in everyday life! ..When you look in a mirror and wave your right hand ..look carefully: your mirror image is waving his left hand!
When you look at your image as shot by your iSight, you'll see that if you shot yourself waving your right hand then it really is your right hand which is waving at you in iMovie!
The Apple people purposely switched the image in iChat AV (..and maybe other iSight applications..) so that you would look - to yourself - as you do when you look in a mirror, because that image looks familiar to you. (The image which is shown on someone else's screen when you're using iChat AV, however, shows you the correct way round, and not as reversed and seen in a mirror.)
So you're seeing yourself the correct way round in iMovie .,as everyone else sees you ..a bit unnerving at first!

You may just need to adjust your monitor.

  • How do I get iPhone photos to re-appear in "Import" window?  I had "Automatically Import" turned on in Aperture prefs.

How do I get photos to re-appear in the "Import" window?  I had "Automatically Import" turned on in Aperture prefs.  Now I cannot see the photos in my import dialog that are still on my phone.  I normally import without Photostream into specific folders on a NAS drives and with specific folder and file-naming details.  I then have Aperature delete those photos as I import them.
How do I "revert" to having Aperature "forget" that I accidentally had "Import Automatically" turned on?
I tried deleting images from the PhotoStream import folder, closing Aperature, disconnecting phone, and then try to re-import.

When I turned off "Ignore Duplicates" in the Import dialog, then the photos that have already been imported into the Photostream library but are still on my phone reappeared as available to import into another Aperture Library as well as the correct folder structure on my NAS drive.

  • Scanned images appear in iPhoto but not in iMovie

Hi I’ve seen similar problems posted here but no resolution. Here is the issue. We have a lot of images that have been scanned into iPhoto with an HP all-in-one. They all are jpeg and all show up nice in iPhoto and move to iPhoto slide shows fine. However, none of the scanned images appear in iMovie. If I go to the HP folder they are initially scanned into, then open, and save as a TIFF, then move to iPhoto I can then see the image in iMovie. Is there another (less time consuming) way to do this? Could this an HP problem or is it iMovie (since iPhoto works fine).

I had this exact same issue, and for me the problem was that although the files were jpegs, when I scanned them in, they were missing the actual .jpg as a part of the file name extension. I went into the original files and added the .jpg extension and viola, they all appeared perfectly in iMovie. Test this on a few photos and see if it fixes your problem?

  • I'm trying to import some Hi8 into FCPX via a Canon GL2.  Although the footage shows up in the import window, it says "Camera not controllable".  The manual import button does activate, but footage is not actually being imported.  Any ideas?  Thanks

I'm trying to import Hi8 into FCPX via a Canon GL2.  Although the footage appears in the import window, it says camera not controllable.  The manual import buttons activate, but the footage is not actually importing.  Any ideas?  Thanks so much.

    What Tom said.
Or you may be able to import using a different program - try with Quicktime Player, "New Movie Recording". If the camera appears as an option, it should work.

  • IMovie imports a still video image

When I import a video into iMovie, I get the full audio but only a single still video image. What's up with that?

I didn't film the video, so I'm not sure what kind of camera was used.
Here is a screenshot of the Quicktime Inspector:
And here is a bit more information about my situation: The video plays fine off of the thumb drive it was given to me on, and it plays fine off of my hard drive. But when I import the video into iMovie, all I see is the one still video shot while the audio plays beneath it. I've tried this on two different computers and on both of them, the video is frozen once it's imported into iMovie.
    Bizarre.
    I appreciate your help!

  • Poor image quality using iMovie 8 or iDVD after importing DV file via FW

    Hello,
i am a complete newby and asking for help. I have bought a Panasonic NV-GS320EG-S miniDV Camcorder. First i connected it via S-Video to my Pioneer Plasma which worked fine.
I have connected the camcorder via Firewire to my iMac 20/2,4 GHz, camcorder will launch import window, streaming works but in iMovie the image quality is already rather poor. I can cut files and all but after using Import film and burning it with latest Toast, picture quality is even worse, that means colors are natural but no sharpness, lots of shivering lines as soon as the angle is moving.
I've tried to import directly into iDVD with the direct transfer function for Firewire which works technically as well but the result is mainly the same, when i burn the DVD the picture quality gets far worse than via S-Video connection.
Last thing i tried is importing to iMovie, importing for media browser and reopening file in iDVD which burns the DVD later, all that works technically fine, but the image result remains absolutely poor, my wife meant inacceptable...
Any ideas what that could be??? I've always imported and exported the film with the largest picture mode possible...

I am using the Panasonic HDC-SD5 camcorder which records in AVCHD.
I also have a JVC miniDV camcorder.
The following is available in iMovie 08 help:If the larger sizes are not available, the original project media isn’t large enough to render in that size. The largest media size used in the project determines the final movie sizes you can render.
Tiny: Always 176 by 144 pixels.
Mobile: Always 480 by 272 pixels.
Medium: Varies in size from 640 by 480 pixels (standard aspect ratio) to 640 by 360 pixels (widescreen), depending on the size of the media in your project.
Large: Always 960 by 540 pixels (widescreen). No large size is rendered if your original video isn’t high definition (HD).
