No video (only audio) in wmv file played in Quicktime

This has come up a couple of times recently with wmv files played in QT through Flip4Mac.
A window [sic] comes up saying "Additional software is required for Quicktime to playback this media. It may be available from the Quicktime Components page." When I click to go to the components page there's a whole raft of different components by different companies but none says anything about the problem I have. Even getting any of those components, let alone installing them, is too confusing to go there. There are very few of these kinds of unplayable (video only) wmv files, so I'm wondering if I should just give up trying to find a solution or if there is something out there that I should try.

How to make .wmv files play in QuickTime Player 7 rather than 10

I have just about had it with QuickTime Player 10 in the Applications folder
and would rather use QuickTime Player 7 in the Utilities folder to play .wmv files.
When I double click on a .wmv file, it opens in QuickTime Player 10 with the

No Video/Only Audio On .mov files exported from Final Cut

I've exported some .mov files from Final Cut on another computer, moved them to this one, and only the audio will play when I try to play them in any program. QuickTime, VLC, MPEG Streamclip, Real Player--nothing will play the video. I either get a black screen or a white screen. I even tried converting a portion of the video to a different file type to see if that could work.
Anyone know what I could do?

Yes, you are correct--it does play fine on the computer I originally had the file on. But I just checked and I do have perian already.
I'm wondering--I exported the file in Final Cut Pro 6, and on my computer I only have Final Cut Pro 5. Could that possibly have any effect on why it might not be working?

No video - only audio- in .mov files

I downloaded some training videos from the internet. They are Quicktime .mov files. When I open them in Quicktime, I get lovely sound, but a black screen. This is what I have tried:
1. Installed Perian
2. Imported into iMovie
3. Opened with Miro
None of those worked. I am able to play other .mov files, as well as .avi, .mpg and .mp4
I have the latest version of the QuickTime player (7.2). What gives?

QuickTime stand alone not playing video, only audio

Am running QuickTime stand alone on my PC with Windows XP Home 2002. For some reason the .mov files that were created with my digital camera will not play video (only audio) on this computer. The files seem to play fine on other computers. Have also found out that I can play downloand or streamed videos (only audio).
Can't figure out why video won't play. Other video formats (.avi for example) play fine through Windows Player.
Any insight? . . . anyone?

Atv2,atv3 iphone5 ipad2 airport extreme base station. NO video only audio.

I have an atv2 and atv3 on an AirPort Extreme base wifi network. All devices with latest software. I can play audio, show pictures, and play videos from iTunes (preview videos) on all devices. When I buy a video from iTunes, play the video and press the airplay button i only have audio and a small badge of the video in the bottom left corner but no video. Also no YouTube videos only audio. I have reset all devices and same results. Been battling this a while and would appreciate any help.

CNBC podcast is missing video only audio?

Does anyone experience CNBC Fast Money, Mad Money, and other CNBC shows podcast is missing video only audio? Is this an issue with the podcast?

iPhone, PC, table, etc ... FastMoney & MadMoney are 'audio' only (iTunes even list it as such) ... 'On the Money with Maria Bartiromo' is listed in iTunes as "video', but it does nt work at all ... I have to believe we need to connect CNBC

Quicktime plays no video only audio.

When i try to play online videos the file loads and quicktime only plays the audio portion (no video). I'm not sure how to fix this please help.

Post the URL/link of the video website you are having issues with.
Make sure you have one and/or all of the following installed:
Flip4Mac
VLC Media Player
Perian (AVI and FLV support)
Make sure you have the latest versions of Adobe Flash Player Software
Repair permissions & restart after installation of software.

Quicktime not play video only Audio with Lion

I am trying to watch avi file through Quicktime the I only get audio and no video after Lion installed.
I downloaded Perian again
Whats the problem?

There seems to be an issue with the version of Quicktime X (10.1) in Lion and Perian version 1.2.3.
The are several options in terms of other media players (VLC, MPlayerX, RealPlayer [ugh…], and others…) that will handle FLV files with ease. Alternatively, you could run your video files through an encoder (HandBrake, MPEG Streamclip, SmartConverter, etc.) converting the files into something QuickTime naturally understands like an MP4 or MOV.
But, you were probably happy when everything just worked with the QuickTime / Perian dynamic duo and just want it the way it was. It seems the best way to make this happen, is to go back to using Perian 1.2.2, for the moment anyway. Seems to do the trick for anyone with this problem, so…
1. Remove Perian 1.2.3 from the system.
Quit all your apps, expecially QuickTime. Open System Preferences and click on Perian. You're looking for the "Remove Perian" button; just click and if it asks, type your password. Next, back to the main System Preferences screen where you right-click(or control-click) on the Perian icon. A menu pops up with the choice to remove the Preference Pane. Click on it and Perian is officially uninstalled.
2. Restart the computer
Probably overkill, but better than having to repeat the process because you didn't.
3. Download and install Perian 1.2.2
Get it here: http://perian.cachefly.net/Perian_1.2.2.dmg , or here:http://www.videohelp.com/download/Perian_1.2.2.dmg
Once its downloaded mount the disk image, but proceed with care. Perian will likley try to upgrade itself right after you install it. Best thing to do: disconnect from the net for the install process. Then as usual double-click the "Perian.prefpane" file, choose who you'd like to install it for, and enter your password as needed. Finally, right before reconnecting your machine to the world, uncheck the "Automatically Update" box in the Perian preferences.
Try testing one of the FLVs in QuickTime or QuickLook and with a bit of luck, radio becomes TV.
Oh… and on the off chance it doesn't work and you want to watch some FLVs? Use VLC (http://www.videolan.org), or convert them with HandBrake (http://handbrake.fr).

I'm having similar issues, if I try and play video via the iPad 2 Videos app I only get sound on the ATV2, video is played on the iPad 2. Maybe I'm missing something because I can get the same videos playing on the apple tv via the atv2 menus and if I use the apple remote app no problems as well. Maybe I'm missing something here?
Video/Audio works using safari YouTube and iPad YouTube also apple remote app. As far as I can make out it seems an issues using the iPod App which links into the iPad Videos App, same issue if I use the iPad Videos App.
BTW if I try and play shared video using the iPod app on my iPhone same problem. I'm wondering if there is an issue with iOS 4.3.2 update. Apple TV did not get the update ?

No video only audio in front row from my .mov files from my Iphone 3gs

Hello people,
I am having trouble with front row playing my video's shot with my Iphone 3gs.
At first, I only had audio and no video, but since the software update it was working fine.
But I just Imported some new vids from my Iphone to my mini.
The old vids have video and audio, but the newly imported vids I only hear audio and see no video....
Anyone knows how to fix this??

Timeline won't play video, only audio

I just switched computers recently (windows 7 to Windows 7) and when I re-installed Premiere CS5.5 on my new computer the video in the timeline wouldn't play.
The timeline video box just shows a media offline graphic even after all the media was reconnected.
When I press play, the playhead moves, but it will only play the audio and only shows the media offline graphic for the video. I tested a few of the clips to see if they'd play in the source monitor, and all of them played fine. It's just the timeline video window that won't play.
It started working yesterday for some reason I don't know, but when I reopened the program it was back to the same problem.
I've looked at a ton of posts, but none of them seem to have this same problem.

There are 2 main types of video in the project I'm editing: h.264 (MOV) from a Canon T3i DSLR, and MPEG-2 from an HDV Camcorder. None of the videos will play video in the timeline monitor, but the playhead moves and the audio plays (the video just shows a media offline graphic, although all the media is connected). All videos will play in the source monitor regardless of codec. This leads me to believe that codec issues are not the problem.

I have updated to the latest nvidia driver in the past week. There was another thread similar to my problem (http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/205/874787) where the guy figured out it was because he had 2 graphics cards, and that his timeline monitor was running off the wrong one. However, his description of what he did to fix it was not very clear, or at least not for my amount of knowledge.
There was another thread where someone said to downgrade to an older driver, and that didn't work either. here's a

No Video, only Audio when building a DVD in Encore CS6

First post here, and I apologize if this has been somewhat covered in other posts, I couldn't seem to find any similar issues in this matter, and I pray someone here can help.
I'm new to DVD authoring, and just started using Adobe Encore CS6 over the summer. I shot a dance recital, and after following some tutorials, made an awesome DVD that was very well received.
However, my last two DVDs have not come out working properly. I imported .m2v files from HC Encoder (DVD Compliant, max 7500kbps for safety) into Adobe Encore CS6, where the .m2v files say "Don't Transcode." They play just fine in the timelines in Encore.
When I build the DVD to either a folder, image, or disc, only audio plays for the video portions of the DVD. The only way to get the video to play is if I run the DVD through VLC. I tested in Windows Media Center (on Windows 8) as well as my PlayStaton 4, and the black picture with audio persists for each video element of the DVD.
Between making the DVD of the dance recital and the DVD today, I have gone through at least two complete system restores, if this is something that could possibly have made things go awry. If it helps to know, I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro.

I imported an *.m2v file along with a *.wav file, both the exact same durations and lined up correctly in the timeline. In the project panel, for the *.m2v it says "Don't Transcode" for Status and "Don't Transcode" for Settings; for the *.wav it says, "Untranscoded" for Status and "Automatic" for settings.
That's all that Encore's telling me about the files.
Side note, interestingly enough, I went back and re-exported the DVD of the Dance Recital that I had mentioned earlier, and it plays just fine. (I'm trying to compare the two projects as best I can) It seems as if the *.m2v file that I made in HCEncoder for the recital plays just fine in Windows Media Player, however my most recent ones do not. But they still play in Encore. Needless to say, I'm baffled.

AVCHD m2ts - no video, only audio imported

Hi, I'm using Premiere Pro CS5.
I have a m2ts AVCHD file. Using mediainfo it says that the format is BDAV (though windows propeties says AVCHD...same thing?) and VC-1 (which I believe is the codec). I didn't film it btw so I don't know anything else about it.
When I import it into my premiere project it shows up as an audio file. The file in the imported list doesn't even have that video icon next to it but rather it has that speaker audio icon when clearly this is a video file. It's like the video is being recognised as an audio file. When I drag it onto the timeline there is only audio added!
I've already tried many things using tsmuxer and mkvtoolnix but no matter what I still don't get any video. The last thing I want to do is to have to re-encode the video cause I don't want to lose any quality at all and it's all too time consuming. Could it be some kind of codec problem?

I had the same problem with a new HD camera just purchased, PP CS5 saw my footage as an AVI and would only play the audio portion of the AVI file. The solution for me was to use the provided software which converted the file into a useable AVCHD m2ts file which PP CS5 then recogised and l was then able to edit.
