No video parameters in properties of max for a sony dfw-sx900

I have NI-Imaq for ieee 1394 cameras and a sony dfw-SX900, this camera appear in MAX but nothing appear in his windows properties/video parameters. In result, i can't snap or grab any image.

I need to know if I can just upgrade my Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics) to the max for video production? I'll be using 4 main programs.

I'm thinking that, for those specific needs, dollars are better thrown at a newer model than upgrades for your existing one. Here's why:
1) You do not have native support for large hard drives, something that's nice for video work. You'd have to spend money on a PCI adaptor card to add that support. Figure US$40-100.
2) Your video card is likely not up to the task unless it's already been upgraded. Another $70-250 depending on how good a scrounger you are.
3) You need a minimum 1.25Ghz G4 processor and, if you get the upgrade, who's to say if the next version of FC will still support a G4? 1.2G processor upgrades start at over $200 and faster ones are up to $700 (OWC pricing for new gear).
4) You can't stick more than 2G RAM in your computer.
And, after all the upgrades, you still have the basic bus speed limitation inherent in all G4s.
Bottom line is that you can quickly invest enough to buy a faster used Mac. Examples of used G5 prices (usually at the top of the price scale) are here. Even an entry level G5 should be much faster than a fully upgraded G4.
Don't get me wrong--I'm an upgrader and love to do it regardless of cost. In this case, I see the potential for ending up with an upgraded computer that struggles at its intended task and could be obsoleted by the next upgrade of the software.

How Best to Import iPhone 4 video into Premier Pro CS5 - Settings for new import "sequence preset"?

Shooting video with my iPhone 4 (ATT version) and am trying to import file into Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3) running on Macintosh OS 10.6.6.
The problem is that I am simply guessing on how to import sequence, and the result is that I am getting motion artifacts and generally inferior quality. I am using iMovie 11 as my basis for comparison.   Not surprisingly, iMovie 11 imports from iPhone beautifully, but when I've looked around inside of it for properties, there isn't much to see.
From using Apple's built in quicktime "inspector," it is possible to see that iPhone4 video has following properties:

When I follow your approach, I don't get the same "sequence preset" dialog box popping up.
FU question, though, the motion is frequently jagged. Is there a way to smooth out/increase the quality of the rendering?    I have 16gb ram, Mac Pro.   which is able to handle iPhone video rending fine in quicktime.   (I've tried rendering for "performance" and "memory" but both seem to produce, eh results.).

FLV video playback is fairly simply, especially in Flash 9.
Have a look
at the Video classes in Flash (both Flash 9 and 8) for direct
FLV playback.
This creates a raw video window so you can create any kind of
user interface
you want. Regarding video parameters, some items you may want
to consider:
FLV file name, video length, name (for user), description,
and dimensions.
Changing video without changing page is simply a matter of
starting teh load
of a new FLV stream. In fact, refreshing the page would be
highly redundant.
Users visiting yor site will need Adobe Flash installed
(Flash 8 or 9).
Flash IS the FLV player; all other players that support FLV
use Flash
technology. You yourself won't need anything outside of Flash
*but* you will
need something like ON2 Flix or the Flash Video Encoder to
create your FLV
files.

Videos w/ different properties - MultiCam Edit

I understand that videos needs to be In Sync in order to do a multi cam edit.
I was given video with different properties from 4 cameras. I imported those videos, and have listed their properties below.
I would greatly appreciate help on how to get these properties the same... and also, I'm not sure which properties I should convert to - so that I maintain the highest quality video.

You're certain the ProRes format @ 1920x1080 / 29.97 will give me the highest quality output?
Well, UNCOMPRESSED 10-bit will get you the best, but ProRes 422 is the second best. UC 10-bit takes up a lot of space and requires VERY fast and large RAID arrays. What is your final output going to be?
And can you please provide some assistance regarding how to compress these videos?
In Compressor, in the OTHER WORKFLOWS there is the ADVANCED FORMAT CONVERSIONS. There you will see PRORES. Drop your footage into the DROP ZONES and then apply the ProRes option you want. KNow that HQ will be overkill...that is meant for 2K footage...zero benefit for 1080 or lower. You should choose at this point whether you want INTERLACED or PROGRESSIVE. Not sure you can mix the two...but I haven't tried, so you can try to convert small bits of video and test and see.

AI_Configure vs MAX for DAQPad Settings

Hi,
I'm working with a DAQPad 6052E in LabWindows/CVI.
Thanks to Spencer's assistance, I'm now gathering,
displaying, and saving to disc. However, there is
considerable cross talk. With a 9 V pk-pk sine
wave applied to channel 0 , we're seeing about
8 Volts on Ch1, 7 Volts on Ch2, etc. I assume that
I'm configuring the board incorrectly and am still
quite confused about how to control some of the
settings of the board.
Specifically, how do MAX, AI_Configure, and the
switches on the device itself interract?
They all seem to have a claim on setting the
mode (single ended vs differential), and the
two software tools both act on the range.
Generally, is there a source that addresses the
individual parameters
of calls like AI_Configure
and how they apply to the DAQPad? I've read the
Function Reference in the Traditional NI-DAQ Help,
but was hoping to find more info specific to
how it all comes together on the DAQPad.

Hey Steve,
MAX is used for the default configuration for the DAQ device. These settings would be used if you had not used AI_Configure. AI_Configure will over write the settings in MAX for that particular task.
There are a few reasons that you could be seeing cross talk on the adjacent channels. Here are a few knowledgebases that address these problems.

That's an error reported from DVD Player I believe...
kDVDErrorMissingGraphicsDevice = -70017, // A valid graphics device is not available.
There's some conjecture it has to do with HDCP, or Video Card problems, but the only 2 cures/fixes I found were Software related, one was cured by updating the OS, another by replacing the Video kexts.
I think this error also shows up if trying to use DVD player in Safe Mode, (too much research isn't good! ).
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac.
Then click on More Info>Hardware>Graphics/Displays and report like this...

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
Reboot... any change?

What's the best choice re video file format in a camera for iDVD production

I currently am using a Sony DSC H1 digital camera which does shoot video in MPEG 1. I use MPEG Streamclip to convert those clips to MPEG 4. The results on my TV screen after processing through iMovie and iDVD are "acceptable" but I will want to upgrade to a good video camera at some point to expand my capabilities. My question is - what video file format should I look for in a camera in order to produce the easiest to work with and best quality result from my iMac?? I am using iMovie HD 5.0.2 and iDVD 5.0.1. Thanks for any suggestions.

a superior pic quality can be accomplished with socalled 3ccd cameras, as from Panasonic...
HD (=HiDef) offers much more detail/quality, but is (yet) not supported natively to any disk-delivery format (Apple supports the BluRay consortium); external BluRay Burners (=$$$$) come bundled with a special HD-edition of Toast7...

How to transfer the content of the video to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 for editing ?

I have an old video camera that is still working. That video camera uses a Hi 8 tape. The tape is bigger that the current DV tape. The size of the tape is something like a tape cassette.
How to transfer the content of the video to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 for editing ? Being an old video camera, the output doesn't have any firewire or USB connector. In fact the only output is has is the Yellow, Red & while connector (is this referred to as composite).
So, how do I input this Yellow, Red & White cable into the PC (or rather into Adobe Pro CS3) ?
Any established hardware/convertor to recommend ?

For "composite out," only you will need an A-D "bridge" to Capture from that camera. Grass Valley/Canopus offers two really good ones, the ADVC-110 and the ADVC-300. There are others and also PCI A-D capture cards, but the Canopus units get very good reviews.
One other workflow would be to hook your older camera to a digital video camera with passthrough (not all have this and it is being discontinued fairly rapidly in consumer cameras) and then doing the Capture through that digital video camera via FireWire. You will not have Device Control, but can easily start/stop via the mouse and one hand on the switches, or on a remote.

I know when building an exe, the "Enable ActiveX server" option in advanced has to be enabled.
But after that how do we create Properties and methods for the activeX component.

You cannot build your own COM specific properties and methods for the ActiveX interface in LabVIEW, the only thing exposed are the normal VI server properties and methods.

How can I keep the edited video which in project into Libray for re-edit later ??
As i used i movie 06 before....
after i imported the videos in to the library, then i can drag the videos to the timeline(now is project)
then edit it.
After that i can just drag all the timeline clips which is edited to the library.So I can keep it for next time if i wanna re-edit.
But Now if did all the editing at the library clips then drag to project, i can not drag the project clips back to library, so how can i keep it for my editing safty?
I do not wanna to edit again the same clips from the library!!! as i need to edit many different short clips together then export to individual videos, and i may need to re-edit.
or i can keep the edited video in project, then i can selected the clips which i willing to export, the rest video who in the project will not be export at the same video? I m wondering....

Just keep the project. Then you can just duplicate the project and make the next set of changes as needed. By duplicating the project, you are not duplicating the event, just the links to the event library.
This way you are not eating up disk space.

You need a special plug to use the iPod's mic in for the headphone jack. If you compare a headphone plug for a set that includes a mic and one that does not you can see that there is a difference.
