No Video PB on External Monitor/DV unit with FCP PlayBack

Hello.
I just bought this Sony DVCAM unit today and I am having no luck with view External video from FCP. I have it connected with FW and had no problem with capture in FCP. I tried all settings on FCP external control and checked the Sony variables also. The Deck is a DSR-1500 record/PB DVCam unit from Sony. I never had problems with my DV Camera. I would appreciate some insight on this. I have FCP 4.5 and I have a small Video monitor connected to the Sony Video Monitor. I would rather view NTSC than computer monitor visuals. Thanks

Does the deck have an input switch? If so, set it for DV. I have the DSR-11 and it has DV/S-Video/Composite.
Otherwise:
#8 External Monitor Viewing.
Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Problems with FCP playback on external LG monitor

I have just purchased an LG 22EA63 external monitor to use with FCP 7. Monitor connects fine, works ok with other programmes but once in FCP , when i transfer both canvas and viewer windows onto the monitor, playback in not smooth with flickering streaks as if the footage is interlaced (even though my current project only has progressive footage). However it gets even worse with other FCP projects that contain interlaced footage - playback on canvas is even more jerky and streaky, and the viewer window is unable to play back most alterations made to clips (especially anyhting to do with motion or speed), making clips  jaggered and unwatchable.
Any ideas what the problem is? I'm assuming it is to do with the LG screens' native resolution which is 1080p , but that doesn't explain why it is failing to play progressive clips at full quality.. Also I couldn't find another resolution setting that worked.
I am connecting via HDMI to a MacBook Pro (2.8ghz Intel Core Duo, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, native screen res: 1440x900).
Obviously if I cant fix this I'll have to take the monitor back, any ideas or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thank you!

I guess it's more accurate to say that there is a dramatic delay in the video between what I'm seeing in the playback window on my computer monitor and what I'm seeing on the external NTSC monitor. The audio does not have that delay, so on the external monitor the audio and video are out of sync. It makes it difficult to show anyone what you're working on, which is what the "client" monitor is supposed to do.

  • Does the mini displayport able to transfer audio and video to an external monitor (example: a tv) using a 2011 13" MacBook Pro with an hdmi cable?

I was wondering this, because I want to hook up my 2011 MacBook Pro to a external monitor (TV) using an hdmi cable.  This would be heplful before I buy a mini displayport to hdmi adapter, and then maybe find out that the mini displayport might not transfer audio, only video.

Yes, min Displayport supports audio and video for the 2011 MBP 13" via HDMI.

  • 128MB vs. 256MB Video Card for External Monitor?

I may want to run an external monitor for Final Cut Pro HD. Will getting the 2.16 Processor with its 256MB Video Card drive an external monitor any better than the 1.83 w/ 128MB Video Card? TIA
BTW, I won't be "gaming" at all. Just doing a little FCP HD...

Randy, I believe you have great technical knowledge
(much more than me) and your math is unobjectionable.
But in my opinion 16% of the graphic card's capacity
just to light up the monitors is not a low figure.
Actually, for generic 2D stuff that doesn't involve OpenGL, Randy has it correct. You'll find that VRAM makes absolutely no difference to Photoshop, for instance. A couple of big screens will happily run on 64MB VRAM.
Once you start running pro applications on those
monitors, and expect real-time responsiveness and
lower and lower rendering times; you might come to
realize that 128MB of VRAM is enough, it's a lot...
    but not excessive.
You only need the extra VRAM for apps that specifically use the graphic card, through OpenGL, Core Image, Core Video or similar. Of course, there are more and more apps which leverage the graphics card this way, so 256MB is going to be more future-proof, and is what I went for.

  • Video tearing on external monitor

I'm trying to get video playback on an external monitor which is connected via HDMI.  It all works but the vsync signal seems to be coming from the internal monitor (laptop computer).
Is there any simple solution to this?  The two monitors have the same refresh rate, but that seems to just make the tearing appear as a line the slowly moves up the screen.  Is it possible to tell the application (totem in this example) which monitor to take the vsync signal from?
For what it's worth, I'm using intel graphics and the most of the videos I'm watching is being decoded via vaapi in totem (gstreamer).

*Everyone* will have this issue, regardless of hardware or driver. It's not possible to sync to two displays unless their timings are exactly the same. And by that I don't mean just resolution and refresh rate, I mean all timings.
nvidia-settings allows you to choose which display video should be synced to. The other display (unless it's completely identical) will have tearing. No way around it. I think the Catalyst Control Center has such a setting too, I can't remember, all I remember is my friend uses Catalyst and we were playing around a bit trying to remove tearing on his TV. No idea if open source drivers provide such a setting.

  • Bypass failed PAV (power analog video) to use external monitor?

"Patient" is a 7+ year old iMac DV 400 (CRT; slot-loading). It fails to start up. The LED in the power button lights briefly, it sounds as if the hard drive starts to spin up, and small patches of light appear in the upper and lower corners of the right side of the screen. Prior to this status, the display had been reduced in brightness for a couple of months. The day before it died, the image on the screen started pulsing at the sides and horizontal streaks flashed across the upper third of the image. I shut the machine down for half an hour then restarted and it was back to normal. The next day, the pulsing and lines returned; shut down and tried to restart in 1.5 hours, but no go (symptoms above).
I replaced the 3.6V lithium battery and reset the PMU/CUDA. No change. I am told that the symptoms are characteristic of a failed PAV board. I read in another thread here ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3110595&#3110595 ) that it may be possible to bypass the failed PAV and connect an internal cable (via an adapter) display (i.e., not using the existing extrnal VGA port). Here is a quote from the above thread (12th reply; "However, for those of us with tray-loaders iMacs that have failed video boards, you can simply disconnect the internal video connector. This connector is essentially a "VGA" cable inside the iMac case, but it uses the old-style Apple video connector. It is a simple matter to buy an Apple-to-VGA adapter and connect it to the internal video output and connect that to a VGA cable leading to an external monitor".
Is this possible with a slot-loading iMac? If so can someone please point me to instructions for doing so (ideally with photos/illustrations), or explain how to do it.
I will be very greatful for any help getting this iMac running again.

  • What do you need to get video output to external monitor

    Hello,
I'm fairly new to Color and have read a few posts that color can't be viewed by firewire to an external monitor. Basically what I have right now for external viewing in FCP is a JVC SR-VS30 Mini DV NTSC deck with firewire connected to my computer. From the deck it goes to a small TV set and a Sony Trinitron PVM color video monitor. What do I need extra to be able to see my color correction in Color on an external monitor. BTW in Color currently the Video Output tab in Setup>User Prefs is grayed out showing Disabled. I suppose that when I get whatever I need to see Color on an external monitor that this tab would NOT be grayed out or would I have to set some other settings.
    Thanks.

Well, you can waste a lot of time and money trying to get your old iron up to speed but the sad fact is, even though it may work with Color, it will most likely end in a less than satisfactory experience all around. You need to determine if your G5 has PCI, PCI-x or PCIe slots and then purchase the appropriate cards.
However, Final Cut Studio 2 is optimized for the Intel processors. You will see users here and there using the newest models G5 with great success but quite honestly, you need a Mac Pro.
Or just purchase the Aja IO/HD which is a firewire 800 interface and the only firewire device that will preview externally Color.

  • Can't see video playing through external monitor

Well it use to work, seeing the Timeline play through my external monitor.. Here's what I have, FCP 4.5 HD hooked up through Firewire to a JVC tape deck which in turn is hooked up through RCA cables to a small tv set. I have the following setup in FCP Audio/Video settings>Device control Preset: Firewire NTSC and Video Playback: Apple firewire NTSC. I've unplugged the Firewire cable a couple of times and still can't get the Timeline to play in my external monitor. Here's the funny part if I go to Log and Capture I can control the JVC deck and see my mini DV not only play in the Log and Capture window but also in the external monitor. I would think I won't be able to. I must be forgetting a setting in FCP to see my Timeline play in my monitor but for the life of me I can't remeber. Appreciate all sugestions!

  • No video to second external monitor but recognized by system

When I connect two external monitors(22 inch AOC) using mini display adapters to VGA or USB to VGA adapter from my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) with an Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB graphics driver and recently updated to OS X Yosemite Ver 10.10, I only have one of the external monitors showing a picture, the other is a black screen.  When going to 'Displays' through settings both external monitors are recognized and shown.  I can arrange them how I want.    When going into 'About this Mac' and selecting 'Displays' both monitors are displayed as active. No matter which port I use and no matter which monitor I switch around it is always the same.  One monitor dark and the other working but both always recognized by the system.  Any ideas for me? Thanks

  • Satellite U305: cannot watch videos on external monitor running Vista with Dynadock

    Hi Fellows,
I have one Satellite U305 running Windows Vista, I bought also one Dynadock VGA with external HP 20" monitor.
I have uppdated all Dynadock drives (Audio, Video, etc) to the latest version, but DVD Video or MPEG Video recorded with my camera is no possible to watch on extended monitor only in the primary monitor (notebook monitor).
For exemple my Toshiba DVD Player works normally on Notebook monitor but when I transfer the window to extended monitor, Toshiba DVD Player stops to work.
Video doesnt work on extended monitor.
Is it correct or Do I made something wrong configuration? Is it a bug? If it is a bug, how to solve this bug?
I am worry because I bough a big external monitor to watch some movies that I can not watch it.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
    Nilton

I am sorry that I have to tell you that mate, but it wont be possible to watch any kind of realtime content through your dynadock. It is not designed for that.
The USB-Connection has not enough bandwidth to transfer this amount of data that is needed to have a "real" dvi / vga picture on our monitor. It is just made for Office use, e.g. E-Mail, Word etc.
If you can, bring it back and look for another solution...

  • No video on dv4-2165dx but video displays on external monitor

I have a dv4-2165dx that has suddenly stopped showing video on the screen. I can see video on an external screen via VGA or HDMI output.  When I turn the computer on, the screen stays blank for a few seconds but as the computer boots up, the screen truns a little lighter than the black color it shows when it is off. It seems that something is going on on the LCD since it turns some type of different color but (i.e. some type of energy has been put through the lcd) but I cannt see anything or use it at all. I have read several places where you can do hard restes, remove the battery, change the angle of the screen, etc - I have done all tips that I can find online and nothign works. I am at the point where I plan to try to replace the cable, adn possibly the inverter since the issue does not seem to be the video card given that it works on the external monitor. I have alos heard that there is a list of defective laptop models where HP would rfix the issue for free. Every link leading back to this list does not work anymore. ANy help would be much appreciated.

I grasp that your display is no longer functioning,  When you power on your notebook the screens goes blank for a few seconds and when booting  turns a little lighter and then goes to a black color the same as when it is powered off.  Your secondary monitor is still displaying your screens.  You have tried a hard reset but no change.

  • Video out to external monitor

I have a 30 pin to RCA cable for I phone 4s. But can only get sound to the player.  Any reason it will not show video?  All oss up to date.  We are driving on a long trip and wanted to stream Netflix to a DVD player with inputs.
    Thx

You could get a Canopus box and put the video out firewire to a video monitor that composite video in.
To do this the video needs to be a DV stream.
If the video is the new hi def standard with a framerate of 23.97, you will see picture but it won't be frame accurate sync.
If you have a G5 or a Mac Pro you could get another video card and display the video on that.

  • No video when using external monitor and resuming from sleep.

I know some people were having problems with the new MacBooks, but I guess the Mac driver fixed something. However, when I'm in Windows and have my Dell 24" hooked up to the Mini DisplayPort -> DVI adapter, I cannot resume from sleep. The monitor will turn on, but I can't get an image on it.
In MacOS it seems to resume from sleep fine, but not in Windows. Anyone else seeing this?
    Thanks!

Is no one else getting this error? Does anyone have any issues when their MacBook is hooked up to an external monitor and it goes to sleep?

  • Recommendations for external monitor in combination with USB 3.0 dock and X1 carbon touch

    Dear Community,
I'm waiting for my X1 carbon touch and USB 3.0 dock and keyboard/mouse to arrive any time soon. However, I'd be glad to get some help/recommendations on external monitor choice.
For instance, the new HP envy 27" caught my eye, since it includes speakers, but it comes with HDMI and Displayport connections only. As far as I understood, video connection itselft shouldn't be a problem using a DVI to HDMI adaptor, but how about the resolution of the X1 vs. a HD+ monitor, and how do I use the audio on this monitor (don't want to use the microphone jack in front of the dock, as it should look as minimalistic as possible)?
Is there a solution? via usb 3.0? or should I better consider another monitor? Anyways, DVI or HDMI, I don't want to connect a separate audio system to the dock. Any recommendations, or is it one of those gadgets that  has not been thought through well enough and you need to wait for the next generation to be developed?
    Many thanks for your help,
    Cheers, jcd

Since you don't want to use the jack on the dock, you could usethemini-DisplayPortontheX1cTouchasyourvideooutputoption because the version of DP on the X1c Touch includes the ability for audio to streamed over the DP connection in addition to video. This would require a compatible DP monitor.
You'll also want the monitor to support audio over the DP connection. The X1c Touch's graphics supports the output of an audio stream over DP and the machine should be be capable of this. This gives you two cables connecting to the X1c Touch -- the DP cable for audio and video and the USB 3.0 cable connecting to the dock. The dock would be attached to keyboard, mouse, USB accessories, and Ethernet (if necessary).
As far as what to look for in a monitor, my general recommendation is Dell Ultrasharp. They tend to be a good deal for an IPS monitor with at least an sRGB gamut and a solid warranty. I've never bothered to attempt to stream audio over DP because I have separate speakers for audio. In the same way that my last 3 laptops have been ThinkPads, my last three monitors have been Dell Ultrasharps. The graphics in the X1c Touch should be fine running a 1920x1080, so I wouldn't worry about resolution. It can be a little jarring to use monitors side-by-side when they have different pixel densities, so you'll likely end up treating them as separate display surfaces. I often have e-mail and Pandora open on my T420's screen while I'm doing the bulk of my work on my main monitors. If you think you'll be touching the screen a good bit, then you might want to look into buying a touch capable monitor. Otherwise your brain can become easily confused because it'll begin to think that all computer screens are touch-capable and you'll reach out and try to touch your desktop monitor without thinking.
