No Video Playback after iTunes 10.5.1.42 update

Very frustrating! After updating iTunes (11/16/11), now I can´t watch any of my past video music purchases. I just get audio but no video at all! Anyone else having same problem?

I forgot to add that I can´t watch those videos anywhere (itunes viewer, iPad 2, Apple TV). I run Windows Vista.

  • Need help fixing video playback on iTunes and worried it will affect iphone

First of all, the black levels when playing videos on iTunes looked terrible.
I looked all over on how to fix this..

After install my videos black level was definatly better, I think.
But now all videos play wierdly in the corner of the itunes program..

I need help to fix this and I hope this dont affect playback on iphone 4

If exporting to i4 results in the same, there could be a problem with the movie itself. Try exporting to the i4 and replay the video. However if exporting to i4 plays okay on the phone, it's your Nvidia drivers. You can download the prior Nvidia drivers and downgrade.
There have been dozens of cases where Nvidia drivers even the newest ones have made a mess of games, movie playbacks, even viewing Windows programs.

  • Slow video playback after reinstalling Geforce2 MX  card

Ok, reinstalled (took out the 9200 card) my Geforce2Mx card and now everything is in super slow motion - video, scrolling, typing, opening and closing of apps, pull down menus, loading of web pages - everything. It's like being back on an old SE30 and now even that seems fast to what is happening now. What did I do wrong? Tried rebooting a few times and resetting pram with no better results.

Press the button near the battery on your logic board, it will reset the PMU, which might help.

Tried that also with no results. Also repaired permissions. What could have happened to the machine to do that?

Installed the modified Radeon ATI 9600 Pro for G5 Edition card and I still have the same slow video playback results. However when I boot up from another internal hard drive I do not have the video problems. Everything works just fine. Both of my hard drives had no video problems before screwing around with the ATI cards and now the one still has the problems with the video playback. This one also has Classic on it and Classic also runs slow. BTW I don't know if this has anything to do with it but when I ran a search result for "ATI" no files are installed on that 2nd hard drive which is playing video and loading pages with no problems. Would trashing all those ATI files on the slow drive do anything to help? Or is this just a coincidence?

  • I may have a solution for choppy video playback for iTunes Windows users

    My setup:
    - Intel NUC (i5)
    - 8gb memory
    - Intel 5000 Graphics with 1GB memory (share of system memeory)
    - iTunes 12
    - iTunes library on NAS via GigaLan
Had problems with very choppy and freezing HD video playback in iTunes and tried everything... Every other player works fine.
    1. downgrade audio playback
    2. played with Quicktime settings
However, I think I might have a workaround. You need to do the following,
    1. Install Quicktime 7
    2. Install iTunes
    3. Download ffdshow (Sep 2014 version) and install the codecs: pretty much leaving all do default
    4. Set audio quality in Sound and Quicktime options in control panel, and iTunes to 16bit 48k
    5. In advanced options of Quicktime in control panel, deselect "Direct 3D" & "Enable directdraw on seondary display", ONLY tick "enable directdraw accerleration"
Well, at least this works for me for now.
    HOWEVER!!!
@Apple! You need to address this issue once for all, I can't believe there is no solution. As a paying customer who buy quite a few of your movies in iTunes, I expect to have a harssell free experience. Consumers should NOT have to go through all these troubles trying to fix a product you have released and making billions out of.
Reason why I switched from Android to Apple for my phones and tablets is becasue of the seamless user experience, regretfully I have to admit, this advantage is quickly going away. The amount of glitches in your recent ios updates and itunes are simply unacceptable.

Downloading videos on 7.0.2 hasn't worked as well as everyone had hoped. I still can't get mine to work, but i do know a few people who haven't had trouble with the newer itunes.

  • G5 crashes during iTunes video playback after Leopard install

I have a G5 1.6 single-processor running 10.5.1. Since I installed Leopard, I have been experiences frequent crashes during iTunes video playback (TV shows bought in the iTunes store). The crashes hang my whole system and require a restart by holding down the power button. The video itself sort of "blip-blip-blips" during the crash, but the mouse and keyboard are unresponsive, windows don't do anything, etc.
Any thoughts? Anyone else with this problem? Thanks!

Ever since I installed Leopard on my dual 2ghz G5, neither itunes nor quicktime player works. They both crash on launch. Maybe not the same issue, but I'm regretting the upgrade.

  • Video playback in Itunes

Recently I bought a brand new HP Pavillion. I am running Windows Vista Premium and I started having trouble with video playback. When I go to play a video the audio is heard, the video skips dramatically, then at a certain point in the video Itunes shuts down. I have contacted the itunes help by email many times and they all told me the same things. Reinstall Update ect. I did everything and I know it is not the brand new computer. Here are my Specs:
    HP DV6000z
    Amd Turion Dual Core Processor
    1024MB RAM
    Itunes 7.1.1
    Quicktime 7.1.5
I really need help with this issue please tell me the answer!!! Thx
HP   Other OS   Vista Home Premium

drat. okay, for some models HP recently released a "Microsoft Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller Update" that has been fixing SATA problems like this on PCs with certain NVidia componentry. but i checked in at the Vista downloads page for your DV6225US, and it wasn't being listed there:
Software & Driver downloads: HP Pavilion dv6225us Notebook PC (Vista 32-bit)
... still they may be planning on rolling out similar updates for other models, so it might be worth clicking on the "Notify Me" button down at the bottom of that page, just in case something does come out for your dv6225us.
(if it does, it will probably be in the "Driver - Storage" section on your page.)

  • Program Monitor is Black, no video playback after installing new graphics card

I bought a PNY Nvidia Quadro 2000 graphics card a few days ago, and since it's been installed, I've been unable to watch video playback in my program, source or even reference monitor.
Similarly, If I designate one of my monitors soley for video playback, the screen is just black, and as the timecode advances on my timeline I only hear sound.
My project is using "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration" for Premiere Pro CS6.0.1
I went from using one graphics card to using two graphics cards, and installed a third monitor. I've spent the last few days trying everything I could think of, I even uninstalled and re-installed premiere.
    Hardware Specs:
    Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
    HP Pavilion h8-1230z
    AMD-FX8150 3.59Ghz 8 core processesor
    16GB RAM
    600W PS
    EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 550Ti
    PNY Nvidia Quadro 2000
I am using a PCI x16 for the Quadro 2000
    I am using a PCI x1 slot w/x1-x16 adapter for the 550Ti
    Could this be the problem?
    Additional Information
Vectorscope, All scopes, YC Waveform - Display modes all work.
I downloaded the most recent Nvidia drivers for both of my cards.
I haven't received any error messages or had any problems in After Effects CS6, as video playback is working properly in my other adobe applications.

I am still building a new system, so currently I'm still using a 480. You can read all about my choices and progress here: Adobe Forums: Planning / building a new system. Part 1
There are 11 entries in the Benchmark Results that succesfully use the GTX 680, even though it is not 'supported'. They all use the 'hack'. However, the 680 has been added to the list of supported cards for AE, so it is only a matter of time before the 680 will be added to the list of supported cards for PR. Todd had made that clear. Now, when the 680 is added, it makes sense that the 670 will also be added. My guess is that both will be added in a short while.

  • Video playback from iTunes keeps pausing

Just bought an ipad air and synced it with my itunes. However video playback keeps pausing and I have to either restart the video app or rewind a minute or so to get it to keep playing. Even then it doesnt always work.
Any ideas what the problem may be?

I have the same problem. I have a g4 466 with a gigabite of ram. I installed the latest iTunes/quicktime updates. I downloaded a tv show, and it was nearly unwatchable, it dropped so many frames. What gives?

2.Tried to streaming movies & tv shows from the cloud I get the same popup black screen but nothing loads.

  • No sound on any video playback after 5-10 seconds

The sound on my second generation ipad seems to disappear after 5-10 seconds of watching any video playback, although sound works when i stream to my apple TV so I'm assuming its the device that's problematic. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue and get sound from the ipad would be greatly appreciated.

Perform a "reset" on the device by pressing down and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 30secs. until you see a black screen with the Apple logo, then release.
Then test to see if it solved the problem.

  • Video Playback After 3.1.2 Update

I have recently updated to 3.1.2 and now find that some videos, that played perfectly well before the update, are now pixelated and of a considerably lesser standard.
Is anyone else aware of this issue and is there any way around it?
    Thanks in advance.

Your suggestion to reset and restore is much appreciated.
However, I wouldn't have labelled the video playback issue a bug before trying something so basic.
To review, just like to person who began this thread, when playing back videos on my 2G iPod touch using OS 3.1.2, any attempt to summon the video controls, after about the first 10 seconds of playback, does not work. The iPod offers no response to any gestures on the screen.
That the iPod's behavior (a) was not observed before the current OS, (b) has been experienced by other users with the same hardware and firmware combination, and (c) continues no matter how many times I reset and restore the device, sounds very much like a bug to me.
My apologies if I offended anyone with the question I posed at the end of my previous post, but it does seem that, in their rush to get stuff out to us, high-visibility glitches like this are becoming more frequent. Perhaps, with our ridiculously high expectations of Apple, we are in part to blame.

  • Slow video playback after upgrading to ati 9200 card

Just upgraded my graphics card to the PCI ATI 9200 but now I have slower video playback than I had with the OEM Geforce AGP card. Does anyone know why this has happened? I thought I was gonna get better playback by upgrading

    Hi,
Well, you have me scratching my head, that's a real puzzle.
Try an Open Firmware re-set, do the 're-set all' procedure:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42642
BTW, ATI (and OWC) has just released this info on their 9600 video card, meaning it's not so good for G4's:
    Knowledge Base
ATI Customer Care > Product Information > Specifications, Features, Comparisons >
737-21888: Radeon 9600 PRO PC & MAC Edition list of supported system configurations
The information in this article applies to the following configurations:
    Radeon® 9600 PRO PC & MAC Edition
    "Quicksilver" Power Mac G4 model
"Quicksilver 2002" Power Mac G4 model
"Digital Audio" Power Mac G4 model
The Radeon 9600 Mac & PC Edition is not compatible with the "Quicksilver", "Quicksilver 2002" or the "Digital Audio" PowerMac G4. If a Radeon 9600 Mac & PC Edition board is installed in one of these systems the result is a blank display.

  • Unable to Sync Video files after Itunes 9.0.3 and iPhone software update

This is my problem with Itunes- After I the Software Update program installed iTunes 9.0.3 yesterday, and I upgraded the iPhone software (to 3.1.3.) shortly thereafter. The iPhone upgrade failed (it froze). When I restarted the computer, I had to restore the iPhone and then I synced. I could not sync my video files.
The apps, music and "push" items sync perfectly. However, it ignores the Movies, Podcasts and iTunes U files.
In terms of the location for these files, all of my Library and Media files are contained in a firewire external drive. They have been there since I started up with iTunes many years ago. All worked well before the Install/Upgrade.
Problem is- iTunes ignores the pointer in Preferences/Advanced/Location and creates an empty folder, named iTunes in the Music library (in my Home directory) at every sync (even if I delete it, it recreates it on the new sync).
Question-Why does iTunes ignore the pointer, and create a new empty folder in Home?
    Thanks for your help.

Apparently Apple doesn't bother to test their software updates. This problem was introduced last September and has persisted through a number of updates that were supposed to address the bug. Very discouraging. I keeping holding out hope that an iTunes update will eventually fix this feature that worked fine for years before iTunes 9 was introduced.
Unfortunately, it is impractical to go back to an earlier version of iTunes.
I have reported this bugs several times (via iTunes feedback). If Apple actually reads the feedback, they never respond.
It's not like there are other vendors or unknowns involved: current iMac 24, new iPod Touch, the latest version of iTunes and iPod OS.
So what do we have to do to get Apple's attention? Stop buying music? Stop buying Apple devices? I'd love to buy the new iPad, but I'm darned if I will if they are unable or unwilling to fix this bug...

  • Choppy iPhone video playback after upgrading to 10.5 + QuickTime 7.6.9

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5 on my Powerbook G4. I used the "Archive and Install" option. After updating all software to the latest (10.5.8 OSX + 7.6.9 QuickTime), I noticed that the playback of the videos shot with my iPhone 3GS becomes extremely choppy (jumps combined with slow-mo). Based on the what's in "Previous System", I was using QT 7.6.4 with OS 10.4, which didn't have this playback issue.
I found several posts related to similar issues in the forum, and tried the following suggestions without success:
    (1) removing all third party plug-ins from /Library/QuickTime;
    (2) repair permissions with Disk Utility;
    (3) installing Perian;
None of the above made a difference. Just for the heck of it, I tried "su" in Terminal and moved "QuickTimeH264.component" to "QuickTimeH264.component.bkp". Surprisingly this made the playback a lot better (all the iPhone clips are H264+ACC). So I'm guessing somehow the QT H264 component is not working properly for me, but what is QT using instead to play those videos after I renamed the component? It shouldn't be any of the third-party plug-ins since I tried removing all the third-party stuff at the same time, and the videos still played fine. I'd like to get to the bottom of this as I'm a little uneasy about re-naming the H264 component.
I hope someone more QT savvy can diagnose the problem based on what I've tried and make new suggestions. Granted my machine is a bit long in the tooth but it's still decently powered (1.67 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, 320GB HDD) and the videos played fine before the "upgrade".
Is it worth doing a clean re-install of 10.5 as opposed to the "archive and install"? It's a pain obviously to have to re-install all the apps but I'm willing to try it if it could reasonably make a difference.
    Thanks in advance!

The problem is that you moved your Mail application to a sub-folder in your Applications folder, and you are running an older copy of Mail.
From your crash report it shows your path is to a different folder then the default folder:
    Path: /Applications/Mail Apps/Mail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail
It also shows that you are not running the correct version of Mail (should be version 3.5 (930.3):
    Version: 3.5 (929.4)
    Check out this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2486
The short of it is that you may have two copies of Mail on your system. When 10.5.6 installed, it may not have updated Mail correctly. Look to see if you have another copy of Mail in your Applications folder, and if so run it and check it's version from the 'About Mail' menu option, it should be 3.5 (930.0). My recommendation is to remove any copy of mail that is not in /Applications (if there is no version of Mail in Applications, move the one you have in Mail Apps back) and run the Mail Update referenced in the article above.
