No video playback in Premiere Elements 10

Hi,
I've got something I can't solve here. I cannot playback any video in Elements 10 on win 8.1. It was originally a Canon .MOV recorded on a G12, and i could hear audio but see nothing. I then converted the file to a AVI, MP4, etc...and got nothing. So I went to my archive and loaded up some other files that had been working with the same program on Win7, nada. Then I tried various random videos, .flv etc.. Then tried to run videos previously created with this software.
I also tried Win7 compatibility mode, and run as Admin.
All of the above videos played fine in various video software.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Candy
What is the video card/graphics card that is being used by the computer with your Premiere Elements 10? You may a Premiere Elements 10 user hit by the NVIDIA video card issue which requires a roll back of the driver version rather than assuring the you have the latest version of the driver installed. Please check out the following thread on that possibility.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675
By the way, flv files never have imported into Premiere Elements (any version). However, you can export a Premiere Elements Timeline to a .flv file.
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your Windows 7 (assumed 64 bit) computer?
We will be watching for your follow up with more details of your situation.
Thanks.

No playback after a few mins of editing.  Tried most of the potion in the adobe troubleshooting section (http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/kb/troubleshoot-digital-video-playback-premiere-2 .html) but never got anywhere.  Most options listed are for Windows.  I have an almost new Mac with all the system requirement to run Elements 12 .  HELP, PLEASE

I am strictly an Elements Windows user, but I do try to find common ground between Premiere Elements 12 Windows and Mac as a first pass at troubleshooting issues like the one your present.
    1. What are the properties and duration of your source media?
    Video compression
    Audio compression
    Frame Size
    File Extension
    Frame Rate
    Interlaced or Progressive
    Pixel Aspect Ratio
Brand/Model/Settings for Camera which recorded the video would help.
    2. What did you or the program set as the project preset based on a match of project preset with properties of the source media?
    3. What have you done in the way of edits after which you have problems? What is the duration of the TImeline at that point? Is this a multi track project?
    Please explain "playback stops"
    a. The TImeline Indicator will not move from the start of the Timeline when you press Play in the Edit area monitor?
    b. Playback stops after playing back about few seconds of the Timeline content
    c. Other
Do you have the Work Area Bar gray tabs set to span the whole content of the Timeline?
When you are playing back your Timeline in the Edit area monitor, does your Timeline content have an orange, green, or no colored line
    over its duration?
    4. Are you running a dual or single computer monitor setup? If you right click the Edit area monitor and select Playback Quality is there any
difference in the problem whether you set for Highest instead of Automatic?
    5. For this type of video and this type of project, would you class this problem as
"it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before".
    Thank you.

  • Video playback in premiere elements 13 is off - audio and video don't line up.

When I import video clips from other sources, such as my webcam, a downloaded youtube video, or video imported from my phone, the video lags behind the audio. More and more as the video plays on. My computer meets all the system requirements and I tried rendering the video. When I export the video to other formats, it still has a lag. Can anyone help me? I am currently using the trial version and I don't want to purchase the program unless this issue is resolved.

In case you did not find it, the following is a copy/paste of the Announcement on Premiere Elements 19/NVIDIA GeForce
that appears at the top of this forum.
Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are experiencing
Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of troubleshooting needs to be rolling
back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained workflow
glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video card. If this applies
to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as far as is necessary to get rid of
the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere
Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.

  • How can I raise the volume on a video clip in Premiere Elements 12?

I want to raise the volume on a video clip in Premiere Elements 12. Can anyone help?

    jcomput
Always good to give the computer operating system involved in case any computer specific details needed to be included. But here is your
generalized yet specific answer for Premiere Elements 12 and increasing the volume of a video clip.
If you are in the Expert workspace...
    a. click and drag upward the orange band that runs horizontally through the middle of the audio clip.
    or
    b. go to Adjust Tab/Adjustments Palette/ Volume Panel expanded on move the volume slide toward +6 dB.
0 db does not represent no sound. It represents the volume of the sound when it was recorded. 0 to +6 dB increases the sound above the recording level; 0 to infinity symbol decreases the sound below the recording level, finally to muted sound.
Please let us know if you are OK with the details above. My blog post on PE12: Audio Features may be useful to you.

Mac or Windows or Premiere Elements 11 is not the question....
There are several software targeting video downloads from YouTube, I am told. BUT, last that I heard, none are considered legal for want of a better term. Last time I looked at this issue, the consensus was that the YouTube Agreement did not allow for this activity.

  • Importing video created in Premiere Elements into Muse

Ideally we should be able to work in one Adobe product and transfer the work product to another Adobe product. I love Muse, but I am unable to export a video created in Premiere Elements CS6 into Muse CS6. The problem is that there is no export option in PE to create an SWF file .... the only video file Muse seems to support. I hope in a future iteration of Muse, it will take FLV files or that PE will be able to export to an SWF flie.

Forget about all the rest until you check out the Announcement at the top of this forum regarding the current 1/2 wmv display related to a recent Windows Update kb file. I missed the wmv part of your initial question by focusing too much on the thread title.
Here is a copy for your convenience
Announcement: Windows Update Causes Half of Display to Be Blacked Out
    Hide Details
MicroSoft has issued an Update for Windows, that is causing problems with Displays. The following is from Talbot McInnis, who tracked down this problem, and offers a fix:
"MS bulliten MS13-057.  Specifically, on XP kb2834904 and on windows 7 kb2803821 is causing a problem
For us, it occurs when decoding WMV9 files.  Not all uses of WMV decoding are affected, but I confirmed that when connecting the WMV decode DLL to a sample grabber for RGB32 video, the frames arrive black on top, so that points directly to decoding internals of the WMV Decode dll.
You can uninstall these windows updates to resolve your problem."
There are several threads on the problem that this Update is causing on the PrE and PrPro Forums, so one can get more details. So far, there is not another fix from either MS, or Adobe.

  • How do I get continuous replay of a video created in Premiere Elements 13?

I created a video in Premiere elements 13 and I would like it to play continuously.  Elements 10 had a specific marker that could be added to the end of the video and cause it to go back to the beginning.  I don't know how to accomplish this in Elements 13.

    Mortsphotos
Bottom line: I see no difference between 10 and 13 in what you may be asking about.
Please read the longer reply below, and then we can discuss this further.
    Details
If you are talking about looping video....
I have never run into the looping feature that you attribute to Premiere Elements 10 Editor (or any other version).
Was this supposed to be a Premiere Elements 10 Editor Timeline content looping feature for viewing only within the project or a feature that allowed the export to loop without intervention of the player after the export?
    For looping of files
    a. find a repeat button on the player
    b. repeat the Timeline content on the Timeline as many times as you want a repeat and then export the whole Timeline.
    c. if you want to have a looping DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, consider
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE: Looping DVD-VIDEO on DVD Disc
If you are talking about disc menu navigation of a disc menu...
I wonder if the above is really what you are asking about. Are you asking about placing stop markers at the end of a particular movie in a multi movie Timeline so that the viewer
selects one Timeline movie from a choice of many, the selected movie plays, and, when playback of that particular movie is finished, it returns the viewer to the main menu? For that
you put a stop marker at the end of the individual movies on the Timeline. You never put a stop marker at the end of the last item on the Timeline. Problems if you do.
Please review and consider. Please supply more details. And, then we will discuss this further. If you need clarification on anything that I have written, please do not hesitate to ask.

  • Slow video playback in Photoshop Elements 11

Playback of videos directly in Photoshop Elements Organizer is very slow. Video is stuttering.
Playing the same video outside of PSE11 with Windows Media Player is much better. Video plays without any stuttering.
Looks like the internal video player of PSE11 is very poor and provides slow performance.
What can I do do have the same video performance with the PSE11 player as I have with WMP.
I use Windows 7 64 Bit (8 GB RAM) with a Intel Core i3 (2330). This CPU has enough power to playback HD or Full-HD videos without any stuttering!!!
Why can't the internal play of PSE11 Organizer play my videos without stuttering - like WMP 12.0.7601.18150 does?
    Regards,
    Dodson65

The videos I use are created with different devices.
I have HD videos taken with a Pentax DSLR and I have Full-HD videos taken with a Windows Phone 8 device.
Both playback on my Laptop without any stottering with different software. I checked WMP and VLC. Even when using my Laptop with energy-saving profile these videos can be played without stottering.
When I playback the videos in PSE11 Organizer I don't want to edit them - just playback. So why should the internal player behave different? I agree with you - this might be different when I playback the videos in Premiere Elements 11 (as this is a video editing software). But when using Photoshop Elements 11 I want to be able to playback videos in the same performance as I can do with WMP or VLC. If Photoshop Elements 11 can't do that - why? The organizer of PSE11 is not an editor. It should be able to playback videos the same way (with the same performance) as other players on my laptop.
Can you please explain this sentence: "Have you started a Premiere Elements project yet that uses this video's specs? This will often trigger Premiere Elements to download the necessary components for interpretting the video." Is there anything I can do to improve video playback performance?

  • Elements Organizer 12 doesn't generate thumbnails for .mpg videos produced by Premiere Elements

    I just upgraded from Elements+Premiere 11 to version 12, on Windows 8.1 x64.
I produced a 1st .mpg file (HDTV 1080p 25 img/s), and imported it in Elements Organizer.
Unfortunately, the Organizer doesn't generate any thumbnail for the file.
This is a new "behavior" of the Organizer 12, because the Organizer 11 use to generate thumbnails properly.
I tried to manually update the thumbnail (right click), but after waiting several seconds, there is still no thumbnail appearing.
    Olivier

    Olivier
Here are the results from my test of your situation where you tried to import 3 Premiere Elements 12 created files into the Elements Organizer 12 after their creation and save to the hard drive.
The 3 files from Premiere Elements 12 were
Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG with Presets = HDTV 1080p25 High Quality
Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG with Presets = HDTV 720p25 High Quality
    Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG with Presets = HD 720p25
The same scheme was used for each, and the results were the same for each...
Imported into Elements Organizer 12, File Menu/Photos and Videos/Files and Folders.
In the Elements Organizer 12, each imported with a thumbnail displaying only a filmstrip icon.
Next I double click the thumbnail and got playback of the video in the Elements Organizer 12 without issue.
Next I right clicked the thumbnail and selected Update Thumbnail. It did within a few seconds. The thumbnail then displayed the first frame of the video.
I ran this test on a laptop with Windows 8.1 64 bit computer operating system. Installed on this computer along with Premiere Elements 12...QuickTime latest version, iTunes latest version, a PowerDVD player. Windows Media Player 12 appeared to be there but not yet activated. No VLC player or other.
For the moment I am assuming that codec were essentially from QuickTime and from what Premiere Elements 12 brought along.
    More later.

  • Publish+Share signifcantly reduces video quality in Premiere Elements 13

As the title states, whenever I publish and share a video in Premiere Elements 13, the video quality is drastically reduced to an almost unwatchable level compared to the original video  This is even the case before any effects are added to the video.  If I add the media to the timeline and then directly publish+share before any changes are done, the video quality is still ruined.  When I click play full screen in elements, the quality and resolution is exactly where I want it, but once again, when I share the video, it's essentially destroyed.
When I play the newly created video there is giant black space above, below and to the sides of the video (where there is none in the original) and movement in the movie causes the video to grain with black lines.
I have been playing around with settings and researching online for a long time now but I can't seem to find the solution.  What I have been doing is going publish+share, ---> Computer, ---> AVI.  Then in advanced settings the video codec is selected to DV NTSC, and the basic video settings which are locked in (which I can't change) are set to quality 100, width 720, height 480.  The Aspect is D1/DV NTSC (0.9091).  I have selected render at maximum depth.  I have also tried saving it as MPEG and other video types but the result is the same.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I understand that I am new and have lots to learn, but it seams so strange to me that the simple process of putting a video in Elements would essentially destroy it.  Thanks again.

    HSTompson
It was not until Mary Lou Frost posted in your thread today that I realized that I did not see and reply to your questions in post 4 of your thread (dated December 15, 2014). Sorry about that.
If you want to match up the properties of the export file with the properties of the Timeline source media, often you need to direct your attention to
    a. Publish+Share/Computer/......and trying to match up the video (especially) and audio compressions of the import with those of the export choice.
    b. A frequent cause of a difference between import file size and export file size is the bitrate used by these files. The higher the bitrate, the greater the quality, but
the larger is the file size. So, trying to match import file and export file bitrates is also on the agenda. See the preset's Advanced Button/Video Tab and the settings
there for bitrate. The units for bitrate will be either kbps kilobits per second (also seen as Kbps) or Mbps megabits per second. We can go into that further if necessary.
Premiere Elements allows for the setting of one project preset which should match the properties of the source files. If you have "mixed source files", setting up the
project can become a challenge. The rule of thumb that I typically use involves setting priorities...
    1. If videos and stills, I will set for the properties of the video and then size (or let the project size) the still to the frame size of the video
    2. If just stills, I try for 1920 x 1080 stills and import them using a DLSR 1080p project preset...that seems to give sharper end product results when doing burn to disc.
Please review and consider and let me know if I have targeted your questions. Any questions please do not hesitate to ask. I try to respond daily to questions, so, if you do not see a timely, response, please send me an Adobe Forum private message asking me "What happened to you?".

  • Multiple Hard Drives for Video Editing with Premiere Elements 8?

I'm using Premiere Elements 8 for video editing. These are the specs I'm using:
The camcorder I used to shoot the footage is a Sony Handycam with  model number HDR-SR12. It's a digital HD video camera recorder that  shoots in NTSC 1920x1080i HD  recording. The footage was shot with AVC  HD  9M (HQ), which records in higher image quality mode. The  video  camera is connected to my computer through a USB cable.
The  computer  itself is a Windows 7 desktop computer. The CPU is an HP  Pavilion Elite  HPE-150f PC with Intel Core i7-860 processor. I imported  the video into  Premiere by selecting "File" --> "Get Media From"  and then choosing the third  option from the top.
My import  option is NTSC/AVCHD/Full HD 1080i 30 5.1 channel, which matches the  specs of the camera I shot the footage with.
Even with the patch 8.0.1 that should be preventing crashing, the program keeps crashing upon startup with one specific video project. Using the exact same video files for that project, I recreated the video, with Elements, and never ran into the problem. Both times, I had the patch installed.
At the moment, I am using only the single internal hard drive for everything (software, OS, video editing, etc.). It is 1 TB in size. However, I am informed that one hard drive is not recommended for video editing, and that I need at least two hard drives, one for OS and one specifically for video editing. I was also informed of FireWire 800 and eSata; however, it does not appear that my computer supports eSata.
Can this problem be resolved if I have an external hard drive and connect it to my computer with FireWire 800 (which the computer supports)? If not, what can be done so this problem doesn't arise in the future?
    Thanks for the help.

When you import the footage is there a red line across the whole of the timeline?

As you have the recreated project working fine I'd be inclined to put this down as a one-off glitch. If it happens again on a different project then it may be more worrying. You may want to consider using save-as to create multiple versions of your project (note this does NOT duplicate the source clips - so you won't be eating up much extra disk space). You could for example use save-as to create a daily version - ProjectName-Mon, ProjectName-Tue etc....
