No Video Preview in iPhoto 09 import from my Flip UltraHD camcorder

Each time I connect to my UltraHD camcorder, I get the iPhoto import screen.
I can see a 'box' for each one of my videos, but they are all black (no preview).
I can import them and play them just fine. But, I always have to import them in the 'blind'.
Has anyone else encountered this issue?
Thanks,
John

I posted in the iMovie forum by mistake.

is it possible to make a video preview and export it from edge animate?

    Hi Johan,
If you are looking to export video through Edge Animate.
Well, there is no direct way to do it but you could use a screen recorder to make an mp4. Then you can import the mp4 in PS and if you have the plugin for gif then you just save aa a gif.

Latest model New iMac 27 " screen 3.4 ghz intel core I7, 12 GB of memory running Mac OS X version 10.7.4

Video in camcorder screen is perfect, same video connected directly from camera to a monitor is perfect.  Also seems to be ok when importing into a Mac Book pro.
Import into the iMac using  iMovie 11and played back full screen on the iMac has the look of  soft VHS tape, not tack sharp and pronounced video lag when panning or when a subject moves across the screen.  Has anyone else resolved a similar issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I  paid for 3 years of Apple protection care but Genius bar experts at local Apple store are stumped.

I'm sorry, I didn't know Imovie has it's own Forum- it's not listed here. Looks like I need an adapter for memory card, because I have an older Mac which doesn't have a slot for the card.

  • Problem with iPhoto import from camera (gets stuck)

Hi, I am having an issue with an import from digital camera to iPhoto. I've had this camera and this MacBook for years without any trouble. The import I am trying to do has about 1600-some photos and a handful of short videos in it, but most are duplicates, so when the import starts, I tell it not to import the duplicates. iPhoto does its thing, but it gets stuck after about 205 new photos. The screen just stays on one image and looks as though it is still importing. I left it for hours and it never advanced. So I clicked the button to stop the import, which didn't seem to work, because the message "Photos are being imported to the photo library. Please wait for the export to complete" came up when I tried to quit iPhoto. So I had to Force Quit. When I reopened, fortunately my Library was intact and the photos that did go through went to a special "recovered" folder. I went through the process again in hopes that it was a glitch, but the same thing happens. I decided to delete the video on the camera that iPhoto seems to keep getting stuck on. This did not help. The same results (as described above) keep happening. I can't figure out what to do. I know I need new hardware sometime soon, but there should be a fix for this... Thank you.

Try using a card reader.  That way you can open the memory card as it were an external volume, select and drag the files in small groups to a folder on the Desktop. That way you can isolate those files that are causing the problem.
If there are only a few files that won't cooperate you may have to sacrifice them so you can reformat the memory card using the camera and then test it with some test photos and videos.
Is it just videos that won't copy?  See if you can determine which files are causing the problem.

  • IPhoto import from iPhone. How to keep changes?

    Hi,
I'm using my iPhone 4s for taking photos. I'm often editing this photos in my iPhone (mostly optimize it or cut it).
After connecting with my laptop, the automatically export from iPhone to laptop's iPhoto occurs, but all the imported photos are in the original condition.
If I import photos from iPhone to Facebook, it appears including the changes. If I import them to my laptop, the changes are gone..
How can I save/import my photos to my laptop including the changes? Thank you!
    I'm using MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), 256GB SSD (115GB free), 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel Iris 1536 MB
    OS X Yosemite, ver. 10.10.2, iPhoto ver. 9.6.1 (910.42). I'm using iPhone 4s.

It is not yet possible. Connecting the iPhone by USB and importing will download the original photos and not the edits.
Apple recommends to mail the photos to your mac to transfer the edited versions., see this support document:  iPhoto and Aperture don't have edits to photos you import from iOS 8 devices - Apple Support

  • Importing from a FLIP camera

How do you import video from a Flip camera?

Just recently did this for a client edit.
    1. Plug the FLip into USB2 port - it will show up as a USB drive.
    2. In iMovie, select menu "File>Import>Movies" - File browser will pop-up
3a. Navigate to the videos on the Flip and select the entire folder or individual clips
3b. Select the Save To drive
    3c. "Create New Event <event name>"
3d. Check "Optimize Video: Full - Original Size"
    3e. Select "Copy Files"
    3f. Click on Import
    That's It.

  • Unable to Import from my Canon DC220 camcorder...

I had begun a project with I-movie 6 of which my camcorder was not compatible with...my solution was to upgrade to I-Movie 08 of which the Canon DC220 is compatible with and I-Movie should import from (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306171). Unfortunately, when I plug my Camcorder into the USB and switch it to PC/Computer mode, I get a pop up on the screen stating that I "inserted a Blank DVD" and gives me a few options on how to proceed. I did try to use other USB ports on the Mac...nothing. I did try a couple different DVDs of which I recorded on...nothing. So I was able to eliminate the problem being with the DVD or the USB port I was using. Please advise as I am at a loss. Thanks so much.

Unplug your USB cable and then press func. to enter the menu on your camera.
plug in your cameras power supply. Then select Finalize. This will close the disc and prepare it for importing.
I'm still having trouble, but this is a step you must follow.

  • IDVD 08 crashes when previewing slide show imported from iPhoto

I've created a slideshow in iPhoto 08 and transferred it to iDVD 08 using the share menu. It appears in iDVD as a movie and I can add it to an iDVD project in the normal way. Everything appears fine but when I try to preview the slideshow in iDVD, iDVD crashes. The slideshow is stored as a Quicktime movie and I can play it using Quicktime.

I'm having the exact same problem. From iPhoto under Share I select Send to iDVD. In iDVD the slideshow appears, but when I click on it iDVD crashes.
I've also tried exporting from iPhoto which creates a Quicktime .mov file. That file then appears as a movie in iDVD under the media tab. But again, when I drag it into my movie and try to play it iDVD crashes.
Other movies imported into this same project from iMovie play just fine, so I was also looking for a way to import the slideshow's Quicktime file into iMovie in hopes of exporting it from iMovie to iDVD in a different format, but the file is not selectable in iMovie, which I also found puzzling.
I did this all the time in the old iDVD and really hope to get this working again.....
    Please help!
    thanks

  • How do I delete videos that have been imported from iPhoto?

Somehow I imported to iMovie 11 all the videos I have in iPhoto and they've been broken down into clips (thumbnails?). I don't want those videos/clips in iMovie or on my hard drive at all! (I just want to keep the originals in iPhoto.) How can I actually delete them rather than hiding/moving them? I've tried highlighting them and using Delete or Command/Delete, but that doesn't seem to work.

iMovie does not have a physical copy of your clips. They reside in the iPhoto library and iMovie references them there. You have to delete them in iPhoto. But be careful, that is your only copy.
You can prove this to yourself by right-clicking on one of your iPhoto event clips in iMovie and selecting "REVEAL IN FINDER". It should take you to a folder within iPhoto.

  • Poor video quality after iPhoto import

    Hi all,
I used to make videos with my iPhone 4S for quite some time. Quality was always as expected.
Now I got an iPhone 5S and make even nicer high res videos. When I watch the vidoes on my iPhone quality is as perfect as it can be on a smartphone.
Now I import the videos to iPhoto. When I watch them in iPhoto (or edit them in iMovie) the quality is often awful! Sound lags, fragments, 'green screens', lots of pixels...
    Any ideas to overcome this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tobias

  • Trying to understand/make iphoto import from 3gp phone

OK. I plug in my digital camera, and iphoto syncs jpegs and avis no problem, but when I plug in my cell phone (SE K790A), and it syncs the jpegs, but leaves the 3gp files just sitting there. I know iphoto can import 3gp videos if I do a second step and cache them on my desktop first, but this becomes not just cumbersome, but also messy since I have to actually try and recall which video MOV0792 was, or let iphoto create duplicates all over the place when I can't recall which ones have already been imported and dump them all.
It seems to me, this is a pretty obvious and simple thing for the software to be doing, but I don't know how to get it to work. Can anyone offer some insight?

    There's no plist?
No "I had that problem too, but Apple told me to P.F.O."?
    Nothing?

  • Video footage I've imported from iMovie to Premiere cs6 is missing after the import!  please help!

I initially imported raw video footage from an event that I shot into iMovie 11, but later decided to try an edit the footage in Adobe Premiere CS6.  I successfully imported the iMovie file folder into CS6, then saved and exited the program to work on it after lunch.  When I returned and reopened the file, the footage could not be found.  I attempted to reopen it in iMovie and it came up as a missing file also.  I know it successfully opened in Premiere because I've seen the footage.  I didn't trash anything so it's not in the trash.  Where did my footage go, and how can I retrieve it?

    Hi Ann, Hi JSW,
I looked around a bit and noticed that this same problem sometimes happens in iMovie itself. People lose their media because it gets copied inside the project file itself. If you right click to see the package contents, you might be able to locate the media and copy it to a dedicated folder, then reconnect media to it in Premiere Pro. See this post on the apple website: Source clip missing | Apple Support Communities

  • IPhoto imports from CD ROM

I know that one can import an entire library from a CD ROM backup disk, but that involves hundreds of pictures. Is there a way to import only selected pictures from a CD ROM backup disk?

    Hi jtietz,
Was this disc burned within iPhoto and mount within
    iPhoto in the source column?
If it does, then just select the photos from the
disc and drag them to the library listed at the top
    of the source column.
    Thanks; that does the trick.

  • IPhoto imported from iPhone has dark streaks

When I attach my iPhone and iPhoto launches and imports the photos, they all have dark streaks, as shown in the examples below. The photo is not damaged when I e-mail it from the iPhone. Any ideas?
    EMAILED PHOTO /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/573/5733046-1.jpg
    IMPORTED PHOTO /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/573/5733046-2.jpg
    Thanks!
    dON.

Wow, no idea what's going on there. Here's another way to import the camera photos to your Mac:
    1) Download the iPhoneDrive demo.
    2) Choose "Advanced Mode" from the iPhoneDrive preferences.
    3) You will see your photos in the "DCIM" folder. You should be able to drag them right out.
It would be interesting to know if this also results in streaks.

  • Jerky slow video clips after after importing from Cam Corder

Hi there, my iMovie 06 has been absolutely fine and then I have just imported some video clips using firewire from a camcorder and the audio is fine but the clips are slow and jerky and out of sync - I have just purchased an additional 1GB of memory and added this hoping that it would make a difference (the Apple store seemed to think it would) but it hasn't - and the other movie projects I have which were absolutely fine are also playing back like this - the guy in the apple store tried everything he knew but was baffled - can anyone suggest what is causing this problem and how to rectify it - I have a Powerbook G4 1.5 ghz 12 inch.
    Thanks
    Jenni

    Jenni28,
Are the clips jerky and slow when placed in the timeline? Or also when in the clips pane?
Did you recently upgrade to QuickTime 7.5? Many have reported stuttering/jerking playback after this upgrade.
I, too, just recently upgraded to QT 7.5, and yes, Klaus1, I have the stuttering problem despite following 'most' of your suggestions.
It is similar to what I found in iMovie 5, and in 6 if I put in many audio or video clips. I work around it by importing into clips pane, checking each video clip and cropping there or in timeline. I then add the photos, and do titles and transitions. The stuttering begins after I add several audio clips. I know that the final movie will burn fine, so I just continue with my edits. I export the movie as Full Quality Quicktime and import that into a new iMovie. It plays fine. I add chapter markers and then drag it into iDVD. Burns flawlessly, so I am not too concerned about the jerkiness.
I noticed that it had seemingly resolved with about version 7.2 of QuickTime, but it is now back again. I was in the middle of a couple of iMovies, and I downloaded version 7.5 by accidentally clicking on it. It was nearly finished installing before I discovered what I had done. I decided to work with it.
Klaus, I will apply your recommendations after I finish this and one other movie. Then I will see if it resolves. I don't want to go back to 7.4.5 now.
