No video signal after crash

recently my dual 1.8 G5 power mac froze and the fans went full blast like a jet engine. i had to hold the power button in to force it to shut down, when i restarted it, it powers up like usual but i no longer have any signal to my monitor. i've pulled out and re-inserted the video card, reset the smu button, replaced the video card and still have no signal. i know the computer still works cause i can connect to it on my network and transfer files to and from it, i just can't figure out why i'm no longer getting a video signal from it. can anyone please help?

thanks for the response. it had the nvidia geforce fx5200 originally, so i bought the same card to replace it, but it didn't make any difference when i put in the replacement, still no signal. if i tried to boot up into open firmware, i wouldn't know if i got the terminal or not since i probably won't see anything. i was also wondering if it could be just the dvi cable going bad? is that even possible for the cable to go bad cause the computer froze?
The cable wouldn't be likely to go bad because the computer froze, but the a computer freeze because of a cable failure could be very believable.
Booting into open firmware would be telling in one respect: if you get the screen to come up, then it isn't the video card; it's something more fundamental but probably fixable. Try the following booting into open firmware, even if you don't get any video action:
Type in the following two commands, probably a minute after you get the initial boot tone:
*reset-nvram <cr>*
*reset-all <cr>*
You should get a reboot after entering the second command. This is kind of like an instrument landing in pea soup fog, but it might help. Even if you get the screen to come up, go ahead and enter the commands.
At least the good thing about the 5200 is it is such a minimal card that replacements are very cheap in the wild.

  • 890FXA GD65 no video signal after OC Genie install

    Hello,
I wanted to see what OC Genie is about so I installed it, but then after the reboot I couldn't get video signal to my video card. The PC is powering up and all the fans and LED are working inside, but there is no video signal to the monitor.
Did I just brick my motherboard, and is there anything I can do to fix it?
My CPU is PhenomII 1090T, 970 GTX GPU

    Thanks Obellix.
I removed the battery before writing this post, but it seems that I didn't wait enough. Now I did it second time, waited 10 minutes before plugging back the battery and it is working.
    GG, thx again.

  • No video signal after Grub

    Hi everyone,
my graphics card is ATI HD7850 and I am using the open source radeon driver.
I ran this setup for about a year without any flaws until I installed an SSD into my system. I copied the root (/) from my HDD to the SSD following this guide: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fu … with_rsync
After I edited the files in /etc/fstab and /boot/grub/grub.cfg, and configured another boot order in my BIOS, I started Arch and everything ran fine. I then installed Windows to the SSD on another partition which also runs fine.
But when I tried to run Arch again I did not get a video signal right after Grub (monitor said no signal found). After hitting reset it worked again.
Now I need to try to boot Arch about 5 times until it works. Even a USB stick with a fresh Arch ISO from the download section fails to boot in about 4 of 5 attempts.
Windows starts without any errors and I can play video games just fine, so I don't think my graphics card is broken.
Does anybody have an idea what might be wrong? I am totally lost here.
    Things I tried to do:
    - Rebuild boot image with mkinitcpio
    - Tried to start without dynamic power management for my graphics card

Put the old card back in, does it work again?
Anyway, put the old card back in first, see if everything still functions.

Yes, and I was also thinking about the two tuner cards. Do what Bas says first, and only then without them and their drivers.
    Correction, three cards!
The mobo setup on the cardboard was with NO PCI slots: just the video card. Thanks for the tips.

If you, test with a PSU that cann do like 30A @ 12V single line, see what it does.

  • HP w2207 Monitor - "No Video Signal" After Power Outage

My mother has a Mac Mini - 2009 model - that I bought her. It is connected to an HP w2207 monitor I used to have with a mini-display port to DVI [I think, either that or VGA] adaptor. She lives 2 1/2 hours away.
Last week there was a power outage and ever since she cannot get her system to work. Her monitor says "No Video Signal" and then goes to sleep.
I worked with her for over an hour on the phone trying to fix this problem (oh what fun). Tried every combination of things I know to fix it. It seems from her description that the Mac Mini is not actually booting. When I have her turn the computer off by (press the power button, wait, press it again), she reports that she will here the disk drive spin up for 10 seconds but then no more activity. The green light is on, but that is it.
I had her reset the SCM, but that didn't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Bryan

See if the Mini will boot from the install disk. If it does, have your mom use Disk Utility to repair her internal hard drive. Repeat running repair until Disk Utility gives the disk a clean bill of health. Then repair permissions.
Disk Warrior can sometimes repair things Disk Utility can't. However, it's possible the internal directory is beyond help. In that case, erasing the internal disk and reinstalling the system will be necessary. It's also possible that the disk itself or electronic components in the Mini have been damaged which would require repair at the Mac hospital.
You might want to consider buying your mom a UPC.

  • No Video Signal After Sleep or Standby

Hi guys. I have a mystery that I'm hoping you have an decent answer to. Sounds like a common problem but mine has a few twists from the issues I've read about.
Whenever my monitor is turned off or goes on standby, the computer stops sending out the video signal. The monitor will not come back on unless I unplug the monitor from the back of the computer for a few minutes or I restart my computer. Sometimes one solution works while the other doesn't and it isnt consistant.
The monitor was tested on another computer and it works well. I bought a graphics card but no difference. I even tried my HDTV plasma (which became an option because of the new graphics card) but that does the same thing.
The computer is an HP Pavilion a6219h running Vista 32 bit home premium with Service Pack 2.
The problem was with the video output that's integrated into the motherboard.
The monitor is a ViewSonic VX2235WM-5 Model VS11349.
Message was "No Signal" on the screen.
I disabled all the sleep features, Set everything to never and saved. Problem still occurs.
I bought and installed an nvidia GEFORCE GT 630 graphics card. Switched from PCI to PCIe in BIOS. Still the same problem.
With this new graphics card, I hooked up the computer to my plasma hdtv via an hdmi hook up. Same problem. No matter what I do, the screen works until it is either turned off or goes on standby.
    It still keeps doing it.
At this point I think it must be the motherboard. I've also read online it could be the power supply? What do you think? Is there anything else I can try?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
You can download a free application like CPU-Z or Speccy to find your RAM frequency and many other internal features of your computer.
    CPU-Z: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
as you said you also installed 2 new RAM's along with Graphic Card,
also check your graphic card drivers... may be they are not set to display when wake up!
Try to download updated software for your graphic card..
    Hope this helps

  • No video signal after changing resolution...

    Hi guys...
I have had this issue in the past.
I have an ATI Radeon 9000 on a G4 Quicksilver. I have had it hooked up, for the last few years, to my Toshiba Regza 42" LCD utilizing a DVI to HDMI connector.
Recently, my wife and I have decided to sell the Quicksilver so we flattened the hard drives and did a clean install of Leopard.
From there, I upgraded Leopard from 10.5 to 10.5.8 and then went to change the resolution to 800 x 600 as I had in the past so I could test out VLC's speed. The signal went out...and never came back.
Not panicking (I had a prior issue on this board and it was fixed), I restarted in Safe Mode. However, when I went to Safe Mode, the resolution I wanted was already chosen and when I clicked on it again and restarted OUT of Safe Mode, I'm STILL getting "No Video Signal" on the Regza.
I've also noticed that while 800 x 600 works (in Safe Mode), you cannot restart into that resolution AND it's surrounded by black bars rather than filling the whole screen like it used to. I don't get this.
I've been told that I may have to erase the entire set of drives again and install only up to 10.5.6 or lower as this is an Apple resolution issue.
I REALLY don't wanna do this.
Is there a way to fix this issue?
    Thanks!

    1920 x 1080 and 800 x 600 so far. I haven't had the guts to try anything else. I lost Safe Mode by going to 640 x 480 once as well as 1024 x 768.
The issue is that the Regza can be set to the first to in Safe Mode but will not reboot to these resolutions when booting normally.

  • H215 Loses the analog video signal after a few minutes after start up.

After Windows 7 is loaded and about 30 minutes to an hour of normal screen and computer usage, the display goes black and my Viewsonic monitor says that the analog signal is missing and then goes into power save mode. Why is this happening? And the only way to resume the use of the computer is to force shut down the tower and then to power it back on. Which then runs through the failed start because I had to force shut down the system due to the display losing its signal. Please assist in this matter. I just bought the system a few days ago and for it to be doing this is quite dissatisfying. Thanks.

    Hello Oremus Productions,
First of all, sorry for this frustrating issue. The first thing to check with OS X Mavericks or Yosemite is the permissions of your Adobe folders. Here is blog post to check out: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
The other thing I'm curious about is ProRes and if Premiere is handling it properly. Tell me, do you have Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Pro X, iMovie, or any of the Apple video products installed? Do you have any components in your Mac HD > Library > QuickTime?
    Thanks,

  • BFG 7800GS OC and MSI 6702E problem, no video signal after post

Okay this problem has me stumped and the techs at BFG are thinking there is a conflict problem with my mobo and this card.
    Heres the case:
I got 1 - BFG 7800GS/OC and I installed it in my MSI 6702E (K8T Neo2 F/FIR). The system runs its POST fine and it gets to the OS selection screen. Right after that (where it should load windows) the screen goes black and the screen acts like its looking for a signal on its digital or analog feeds (a small window appears on my screen indicating signal on which port and for me its on the digital).
This is what I've tried so far:
    1)  I unistalled NVIDA drivers
    2)  Tried booting to safe mode
    3)  I bought an Antec SmartPower 2.0 PSU 500W (see http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=26500 for specs)
    4) repeated steps 1 and 2 with new PSU
    5) Updated to 9.3 BIOS
    6) Confirmed VIA drivers version is latest (5.10a)
    7) Got another BFG7800GS OC and repeated steps 1 and 2
    8) Bought another PSU its a BFG 650W (see http://www.bfgtech.com/power_supply_650W.html for specs)
    9) repeated steps 1 and 2 with 1st and 2nd 7800GS
I have tested the cards in another AGP system and the cards work perfectly. I've talked to the BFG tech support and they feel their could be a conflict with the mobo, but I'm at a loss to find any info on that in these foums.
Note that both PSUs have 12v rails that are rated combined >20 Amps
    My system Specs:
    Athalong 64 3200+
    K8T Neo2 F/FIR
    2 - 512 MB Kingston DDR 400
    2 - 256 MB DDR 400
    1 - Seagate 200GB HDD
    1 - WD 80 GB HDD
    1 - TDK DVD +/- RW
    SB Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
PNY 6800 - soft modded to GT with extra Vertex Shader enbled

I can't boot into safe mode, normal mode, vga mode. The computer only POSTs and then gives me the OS selection, which I then choose and thats it.... black screen. No sound, no video then eventually my screen goes into power saving mode. I don't even get the windows logo screen.
My previous system worked great minus the declineing game performances. I'm simply replacing the softmodded PNY 6800 to this new BFG 7800 GS. I know the video card working is not the issue since I had it working perfectly in another PC. So no this is not a new build.
Yeah so the deal on those 2- 256 MB DDR 400 ram sticks is that there is no visable brand name. There is a sticker on it indicating its stats and a little logo of some company I don't recognize. The RAM sticks themselves have a silver colored heat spreader, but I don't think that has anything to do with the situation. The RAM in this computer is top notch and its been stable for over a year.
I'm really at a loss here on what the problem might be, but I have to imagine there is some issue going on with the AGP bus. I've tried messing with the BIOS settings and setting fast writes to off, AGP to 4x, aperature to 256 mb then back down to 32 mb. All those settings result in the same symptoms.
Man this is really perplexing since it seems others have this same board wih this card running fine. Since I can't seem to find anyone with a similar issue.

  • Set DVD to Sleep Video Signal Sooner

    Greetings!
    PROBLEM:
My DVD project is burning in my LCD HDTV screen.
    QUESTION:
Is there a way to make the DVD shutoff its video signal after a couple minutes of no activity (and override the player's sleep setting)?
I have two menus and three movies.
    WHAT I'VE TRIED:
The forum search here seems to have changed, it searches the whole site (what's up with that?) so that was no help.
Menu pallet> General tab> End (set 2min for audio)> Duration (set 2min)> At End: Time Out (set 1sec)
The player led counter stops after the 2min as expected, but the menu stays on screen too long...

There is no command in VM of DVD player to go into sleep mode, however there is "exit" command to stop playback.
To use it you'd need to redesign your navigation scheme. For example you could make your main menu to automatically play the first movie after the menu itself have been played 3 times. So after 6 minutes of menu the movie will kick in, preventing your screen from burning-in.
The end jump of the movies would be set to another menu that times out to a script which would include the exit command. This will end the playback and after a defined time your player will go into sleep mode.

I just (foolishly) "updated" to the most recent version of itunes.  And, surprise surprise, a headache has ensued.  I am using a mac mini hooked into a TV via HDMI (the setup is mac mini ---> receiver ---> TV).  After the itunes update, Weirdly, when I launch itunes, the video signal gets lost.  The application appears to start without any problems at first, but 10-20 seconds after launching, my TV goes black.  I've never encountered a problem like this before (I've had my mini hooked to my TV in this setup for some time.)  Any thoughts on how to try to address this issue would be greatly appreciated.  (If only I had this computer on time machine, I would go back an hour and all my problems would be solved.)

I had the same problem after installing Snow Leopard.
But now it seems magically fixed after updating to 10.6.2

I'm concerned that Toshiba will not fix this issue before some of us have to return our new TVs because of such a seemingly inane problem. I paid significant money for a Toshiba TV (I've owned and loved 3 previous Toshibas) with certain performance expectations, including NOT having to see a silly 'No Signal' message every time I turn the set on. Is Toshiba paying attention here? I hope so. I DO NOT want to give up my new Toshiba television, but I must if this annoyance isn't fixed very quickly. Toshiba, are you listening? Your loyal customers are waiting for an answer.

  • Video signal fail

The symptoms- Often when playing demanding games, the video signal will simply cut off. Audio and response to the keyboard will be maintained briefly, but end soon after.
Initially I took my Mac Pro to the GB, however they found nothing wrong with it. When I took it home, the problem persisted.
I have done further tests in an attempt to pin point the problem. First I hooked up a second monitor. During the next crash, both signals went out leading me to believe it's not a problem with the monitor. I stressed the vram through extensive use of motion, using some 400 vram, far more than any game. No crash. I ran the built in memory test (holding f2 at start up), the extended test found no error and the basic test found no error either, but took roughly 15 minutes (i have 8gb of ram.) I then downloaded a CPU stress test, ran it to such an extent that 99-100% of CPU capacity for several minutes, no crash. Despondent, I download a more extensive activity monitor and opened a game. Immediately I noticed that the GPU was running at nearly 100%- much higher than the vram. Could the GPU be the issue?
The graphics card is ATI Radeon X1900 XT btw, 8gb ram, 2x3 GHz Quad-Core

    Hiya!
The X1900 XT is often a problem child in Mac Pro's. The card has poor cooling designs, meaning under heavy continued stress it will stop working. One of the main reasons is dust! Have you opened up your Mac, taken the card out and given it a good cleaning? Others have also had a lot of success installing a new heatsinks and coolers, but not for the faint of heart!
Have a look at this website...
