No video signal check video cable p6531p

HP PavillionModel p6531p Product WW599AA Windows 7 64-bit
I receive the following message within seconds of powering on the computer:
"no video signal"
"check video cable"
"monitor going to sleep"
I have tried four different monitors with two different cables, 2 keyboards, and 2 mouses or mice whichever is correct.
Video is on board, so I tried installing a new video card in my PCI-E x 16 expansion slot.  I can't disable the on board due to not having video.  I was hopeful that the new one would over ride the on board.
I've tried as many of the trouble shooting ideas available on the HP website.  I don't have video, so I can't try them all.
I did try resetting the BIOS using the directions that were included even if you couldn't see anything on the monitor.
Any suggestions?

What type of connection? DVI? Are you sure it is a onboard graphics Card? Most monitor failure is the result of power supply you might want to try that.

  • HP 2311x - Can't access menu at all & screen shows "Check video Cable" message.

I've got an HP 2311x hooked up to a Mac Mini running OSX 10.6
My monitor has a black screen and is displaying the "Check video Cable" message and I am completely unable to access the on screen menu.  Pressing the menu button has no effect and does not bring up the on screen interface.
I have tried connecting the monitor using HDMI, HDMI->DVI, and mini-display-port->DVI.  Same results on each.
My monitor had been working fine for the past two months.  When I first hooked it up the auto detection screen would pop up every few minutes while my computer was asleep so I went into the menu and disabled the auto detection and set the monitor to DVI only.
I unhooked my monitor for a few days to rearrange my office and when I plugged it back in it no longer detected any signal on the DVI input and I can't access the on screen menu to change the setting back to auto detection.  I have tried to perform a hardware reset by unplugging the power cable and holding down the power button for 60 seconds, but that also doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

I have two of these monitors connected to a MacPro. Last night one of them started behaving this way after a power outage. I found I had to connect it to the computer via VGA and then do a factory reset from the monitor's menu.
HP led me to believe that I could do a factory reset by disconnecting the cable and holding the power button for 20 seconds. Apparently that doesn't work for this one.

Do I not have enough power in this PSU to run what I have? The video manufacturer suggests a 450W PSU, which I meet, but do I not have enough juice the 12V rails? And would this cause the no signal? Any help would be much appreciated.

have you tried with one of them only into 1st PCI-E? use 1st DVI output, when using SLI, ensure SLI bridge is configured property, connect monitor to VGA onto 1st PCI-E slot. also check monitor output is configured property(etc: Input 1, Input 2).
power down PC, remove power cord from the PSU and Clear CMOS Guide
    re-test.
ensure all power cables are connected property. try to boot with one memory stick only into slot close to CPU socket.
    what D-bracket shows?

yes, think is too weak for your system
its recommended to get single rail with high amperes on +12V (over 30A)

  • 46SL412U Sudden No Video Signal for all HDMI Ports

My daughters and I were playing the Wii U tonight on our Toshiba 46SL412U LED TV when suddenly the picture when black and the No Video Signal message came up.  I changed out the HDMI cable thinking the cable went bad, but still no picture.  I power cycled the TV, still nothing.  I am also not getting any picture with any of my other devices that are hooked up via HDMI port (BluRay player, Chromecast).  Oddly, the REGZA-LINK still recognized that the BluRay and Chromecast are plugged in and switches to the correct input when I power either of them on, but i'm still getting the No Video Signal message.
Is there a setting I've missed that suddenly changed, or did all of my HDMI inputs suddenly go bad?  What can I do to fix this issue?

To check the Graphics card's funtionality you may go to BIOS menu and see if is it listed or not; if yes, then it's working, and you may have to check the video/HDMI cables.
Try to boot the PC without connecting any device other than monitor, power cable, mouse and keyboard.

    Any troubleshooting suggestions?

    Hi,
Does your PC have a discrete video card or just the on board graphics processor with a VGA connector?
If you are using a HP monitor then try a monitor reset. Unplug the monitor’s power cord and hold down the monitor’s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up. check the monitor's internal source selection and make sure that it is set to VGA.
Test the monitor and cable using just VGA on another PC to ensure that those components are good.  Alternatively, use a known good monitor and VGA cable (without using adapters).
The other suggestion would be to locate a video card that is rated to work with the 250 watt power supply in your PC. There are very few video cards that are rated by the manufacturer to work with a 250 watt PC.  A new power supply and video card might be close to $100.

  • Mac Mini boot issue, chime, but no video signal.

    Hello,
I'm repurposing an older MacMini for use as a home media server.  The machine specs are as follows:
    2.53mHz//2x2G/320/SD/AP/BT
    I have:
    1.  Removed Airport/Bluetooth card -- they serve another purpose -- the unit will be hardwired to my LAN.
    2.  Upgraded HD to 500 GB, and installed Lion.  Everything worked fine, I put the project on hold for a couple months to work on other things.
I went to install the unit on the wall the other day.  Before I did I decided to power it on once more to check all was well before mounting it.
All of the connections appear to be fine, however... when I power the unit on, I hear the chime but never get any video signal.  I've tried both:
VGA output using Mini-DVI to HDMI Adapter -- my existing Apple TV supports and this is how I got Lion Installed -- so I know the cables are good.
Worred that perhaps the Mini-DVI port was bad I also tried the:
Mini DisplayPort output with a VGA adapter, same result.  I hear the chime and then nothing happens.
My next steop is to attempt to SSH into the Mini from anther machine.  Before I go this route: Any ideas what I should be looking for or intermediate steps?
    Any help would be appreciated.

I'd try the SSH and view the logs for last startup, or maybe Target Mode if SSH doesn't work.

  • Laptop will boot... backlight turns on... but no video signal

    Hello!
(I searched but couldn't find a situation quite like mine, so sorry if this is a repost.)
After dropping my iBook, I busted the bezel/clutch. The unit powered up, including a fully functional display, but the lid just opened a little screwy.
So, I had the bezel/clutch replaced by an IT buddy, and when everything was reassembled, the unit would still boot up, the backlight would turn on, but there was no video signal! We thought maybe the VGA cable got messed up in the process, so we had it swapped out. Same problem.
Any ideas? Any thoughts if this problem is related to: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=877652&tstart=60 ?
I got a heck of a deal on this thing, so I'm thinking about just connecting to an ext. display, backing up everything, and parting it out on eBay. But this was my first Mac, and I only had it for a week, so if there's an easy/economical fix, I definitely want to give it a go!
    Thanks folks!

  • GTX 670 Power Edition gives no video signal

Hoping somebody can help here. I've had a long string of problems which seemed graphics card related. Initially, the problem that Windows would reboot with no error message or warning of any kind about a minute after logging in. No problems in safe mode nor any problem if I set Windows to start in Diagnostic Mode. Advice at the time suggested doing a system repair from my installation CD but didn't have time to do this before going on holiday. On return, the problem had deteriorated (or a new problem appeared) - there was no video signal, not even the BIOS screen.
At this time my graphics card was an NVidia GTX 580, motherboard a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R, I-7 950 CPU, 850W XFX PSU.
I ran through a host of tests to eliminate possible causes:
    1. Tried the card in all PCI_E slots but still no video.
    2. Tried another card (NVidia Quadro) in all PCI-E slots, system booted successfully with video and could login to Windows (difference here is the Quadro is powered directly from the motherboard).
    3. Tried a number of DVI cables with both cards, the Quadro worked with all of them the 570 stubbornly refused to give a video signal.
Decided the problem was either the PSU or the GTX 580. Returned the latter under warranty and purchased the MSI GTX 570 PE. Installed this and again no video signal but ran through the above tests again with exactly the same results. However could now test the 570 on another system (could not try this with the 680 as PSU on my other system only had 2 6-pin PCI-E connections and the 580 required an 8-pin and a 6-pin power connection). The 570 at least produced the BIOS screen, booted Linux and presented a login screen. Didn't login as the PSU on this system was probably on the marginal side for wattage.
Decided then that I had a strange PSU problem. It could power my PC with the Quadro, suggesting motherboard, CPU, RAM and disks were all OK but could not provide sufficient power for either the 580 or the 670 cards. Bought a new 850W PSU and have just installed this with the 670 card in and yet again I get no video signal. I am now stumped as to what the problem can be so would welcome any suggestions as to what may be wrong and/or what else I can try.
    Thanks,
    George

Quote from: Svet on 16-November-12, 06:48:32
then you should contact mainboard vendor about it as problem is not in the VGA.
I had given what I thought was sufficient information about the PC spec in my first post. Both what I started with and what I'd changed. But I'll give the full spec here:
    Motherboard: GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0
    CPU: Intel I-7 950 3.06 GHz
    Memory: 3x4GB Crucial DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.5V • 512Meg x 64
Disks: Samsung 64GB SSD SATA System disk
WD 1TB and 500GB SATA drives
    PSU: Coolermaster RS-850-SPHA-D3 80+ Gold - 3.3V:22A, 5V:25A, 12V:70A single 12V rail
GPU: MSI GTX 670 2GB OC Power Edition
    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
The changes were the PSU and the GPU. The problem started when I had an XFX Black Edition 80+ Bronze PSU and a Gigabyte GTX 580 GPU otherwise the rest of the spec was and has remained the same. With my original spec, it ran perfectly happily for almost 2 years but then started with the system rebooting without warning about a minute after login (it would stay at the login screen indefinitely). After running some tests the clues seemed to point to the GPU configuration having been corrupted in some way (from sfc logs). However, if I set Windows to Selective startup, I could login and the system would stay up. I decided to do a system repair from my Windows 7 installation disk but had to postpone this for a couple of weeks during which time the PC was powered off.
When I next powered up the system, there was no video signal at any time. The investigation I did made me think either the GPU was faulty or there was a PSU problem - all other aspects of the system could be shown to work. I returned the GTX580 as it was under warranty and purchased the GTX670 with the refund. This exhibited the same symptoms as the 580 - no video signal no matter how long I left the system running. I was able to test the 670 in another system and it worked there. I couldn't run this test with the 680 as the PSU did not have an 8-pin PCI-E connector - just 2 6-pin connectors.
I then added an NVidia Quadro card alongside the 670 and booted the system with this as the display GPU. This gave me a video signal at all times and more importantly allowed me to get into Windows and check if it recognised the 670 in Device manager. It did but reported a problem as, until now, I hadn't been able to load the 670 driver. I did this and rebooted - again no video signal during post and initial Windows boot but I did get video as soon as the newly installed driver was loaded. This is the state I'm in now other than I've flashed the vbios as suggested and the GPU no longer works on my other PC.
Note, I can happily remove the Quadro and boot the system with just the 670, except I don't get any video signal until Windows has loaded the 670 driver - the monitor light stays stubbornly orange till that point. After that, everything seems to be fine - I don't get the reboots that this problem started with. The only other clue I have is with my original spec I always had a problem from shortly after building it where I would need to power cycle the system most times as I could not wake it from hibernate mode.
I'm hoping this helps as I know I have run out of ideas of things to do. The only thing I have left to try is update the motherboard BIOS.

  • No video signal on a HPE 510f with a GeForce GT 640 connected to a HD TV

After upgrading the video card in my HPE 510f to a GeForce GT 640 and re-connecting it to my Home Theater system, there is no video signal from the HPE 510f when I switch the video input on the TV.  Simply unlpugging and re-inserting the HDMI cable solves the problem, but there must be something else that can be done. This solution kind'a defeats the purpose of having a remote...
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
Review this HP posted article for setting up dual monitors.  Look at the troubleshooting section for TVs.
Use a quality HDMI cable that is certified for 1.3 or 1.4 if the TV is 3D.
Avoid using adapters as they can be another point of failure.
Avoid using a long HDMI cable as the length can at times be an issue. 15 feet or less should be OK.
Try the latest NVIDIA Driver from the NVIDIA site.  Review the release notes.
Check the bios level of your PC against the latest bios level posted by HP.
Unless you have upgraded the power supply in the HPE 510f, the 300 watt PSU is below the GT 640 minimum requirements of 350 watts.

  • No video signal on startup

I have a MacPro, but I use a Samsung 225BW monitor. Recently I'm experiencing no video signal when I startup. I hear the mac "loading" but the monitor alternately flashes the message "analog" and "digital". These messages occur for a few seconds then the monitor goes black and the monitor power light begins to flash. (The monitor exhibits the same behavior if I shut down the mac but forget to turn off the monitor.....so I assume this issue is due to a lack of signal from the mac.) Usually if I restart (once or twice), I get the grey mac "loading" screen and everything is ok. I've checked my cable connections and everything seems to secure. Any ideas or troubleshooting suggestions?
(btw - I recently had an airport extreme card installed. I don't know if this could be related?)

Sounds like you have the cables in order. You're likely running the monitor in VGA mode using APple's DVI-VGA adapter. If you have a DVI cable you could try running a straight DVI connection. This might help.
Reseating the card isn't that hard. Assuming it's not an ATI X1900, just unscrew the two PCIe bracket screws that hold the card to the case. Then you should be able to wiggle it free from the motherboard. Once it's out, check for excessive dust or anything in the PCIe port. Then, put it back in ensuring a snug, uniform fit. Re-attach the screws to the PCI bracket and away you go!
Sounds like this might be the issue altough installing an Airport card does not require the graphics card to be removed.
Making another attempt at zapping PRAM might also prove helpful.

  • Incompatible Video Signal

First off, I apologize if this question has been answered, but I didn't see it in the posts. ATV is connected via HDMI to my Sharp Aquos (1080i), when I go to the input on the TV, nothing appears except a black screen and then an error message from the TV that there is an incompatible video signal and check the output signal from the device connected. I followed the ATV instructions to select a video mode, nothing happened; I also tried to restore, but with the black screen, I can't choose any settings. Also, ATV does not show in itunes. All software is up to date.

You can cycle the video modes without the on screen display by using the remote:
Hold down 'menu' and '+' for 6 seconds and then cycle the modes using the '+' and '-' buttons (allow enough time for each mode before trying another.
You can restore the tv without the on screen display by using the remote:
Hold down 'menu' and '-' until the amber light begins to blink.
You may also wish to try another cable, HDMI cable can often be the cause of a problem.

  • How do I get a video signal to an external monitor via the mini-display port on my Mac Book Air?

I can't get a video signal out through my mini-display port on my Mac Book Air (version 1).  Thus I can't feed BBC iPlayer to an external monitor.  There is some connectivity - the MAC wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible and sound is transferred.  Is it likely to be a cable connection problem (though the cable works with a Windows operating laptop)?

First, what you said is contradictory. You say "can't get a video signal", then say"the Mac wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible". "No video signal" means an absolutely black, blank screen. It sounds like you have plenty of signal.
I am supposing what you are seeing is actually a blank desktop, which is to be expected if your settings are such that you are extending the desktop, instead of mirroring it.
Within the preference panes is a setting that allows you to change this. Open System Preferences, click Displays, and then click Arrangement. You will see that you are extending the desktop. Change that setting.
