No Video via HDMI or screen share from MacMini

Hello,
I've had the following setup for over a year now without any problems:
MacMini <HDMI> Denon X2000 AVR
Sony Blue-ray <HDMI> Denon X2000 AVR <HDMI> Sony 55" TV
Cable Box <HDMI> Denon X2000 AVR
Since I don't have a keyboard or mouse for my mini I've setup "Screen Sharing" so I can login from my MacBook and control it as needed.
Everything was fine until a few days ago, I switched inputs from my Cable box over to the Mini and there was no video. I tried "login in" to my mini via my MacBook and I can't see the desktop, it's just a black box. I can however see the 3TB USB 3.0 drive that i have attached to my mini and have access to all my files.
So to recap my Mini starts up, power light comes on, makes the startup sound but I get no video on my TV or in "Screen Share" from my MacBook. I do however have access to my files on my Mini via my MacBook.
Has anyone had this situation before? I've checked all the HDMI cables by taking the one from my Cable box that is working and plugging it into the Mini to no avail. I've also restarted the mini multiple times.

I've got a 2011 Mac mini.
Since I don't have a keyboard or mouse for my mini I've setup "Screen Sharing" so I can login from my MacBook and control it as needed.
Same here! I've been using Screen Sharing to use this mac mini since I purchased it in 2011. I've never had a monitor hooked up to it.
A few days ago I connected my 41" Samsung TV to the mac mini using an HDMI cable. Since doing so, I can still connect to the mac mini and browse the mac mini's file system in Finder (Desktop, Applications, Documents, Movies, Music, etc...) but when I click Share Screen... with that mac mini via the Finder (as I've successfully done for years) it just hangs, and eventually I get the message "Connection failed to mac mini... Please make sure that Screen Sharing (in the Sharing section of System Preferences) is enabled on the computer to which you are attempting to connect. Also make sure your network connection is working properly."
So to recap, the only thing at all that's changed on that mac mini was plugging in the HDMI cable to the television. And now I cannot use Share Screen with it.
For what it's worth, I did hard reboot the mac mini and was able to successfully Share Screen. But after going away for most of the day and coming back, now that I try to Share Screen I again get the error message I pasted above.
Any help would be really appreciated. I don't want to have to reboot my mac mini just to Share Screen for a couple hours every time I want to use it.
Edited to add: while I can't Share Screen to that mac mini any more since plugging it in to the tv with the HDMI cable, for what it's worth I can still control iTunes using the Remote app for iOS. I doubt that's too relevant but adding it here just in case.

  • Audio & video via HDMI to an external monitor with lid closed.

I would like to run a Macbook Pro Retina (2014) with the lid closed and all video and audio via HDMI routed to an external monitor (Samsung Syncmaster from 2010). Is this possible? When I try this, no sound is transferred to the external monitor and I cannot operate the Macbook Pro with the lid closed. As soon as I close the lid, it cuts the signal to the external screen.
I’ve tried looking for previous posts but they’re about MCP’s connecting via Thunderbolt or DVI. Any ideas?

Seems like there may be two separate questions here.   Audio working in either configuration   and video from HDMI when lid closed.  First, you are doing this with the Mac running off of AC, not battery, right?
    Audio:
Is the HCMI cable you are using able to carry the audio?  Some cables don't.
The only way I've ever used external displays with lid closed is with the thunder port (or DVI) adapter, not with the HDMI.  I see the specs from Apple:
    HDMI video output
Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz
Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz
Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz
So have you tried varying the screen res to determine the results?  I can find no specs regarding what ports remain operational in clamshell.   Like you, I would have assumed all of them.
I suspect only the thunderbolt port would support your desired config -- try a thunderbolt/hdmi adapter.
Finally, clamshell mode doesn't allow the MBP to cool efficiently.  Heat kills electronics, so if it's too warm or the fans really kick in, you might want to reconsider this setup.

  • Replaying video via HDMI problem N8

If I record a video on my N8, then replay it through my TV via HDMI, the video starts OK, then stutters after maybe 30 seconds and then a message pops up quickly (too quick for me to read) and then the video stops replaying and the phone goes back to the home screen.
I have no idea what is causing it, has anyone else had this or knows of what is causing it?
    thanks

Does the same video play normally on the phone without connecting to a TV? Also, is the video stored on E: mass memory  drive or F: Memory card? If it's on a memory card, the card may be faulty and might need to be re-formatted. Backup any important files on the SD card then use the phone to re-format the SD card.

  • Full HD video via HDMI. Can Satellite A300D-14P do this?

    Hello,
    I'm thinking of buying Satellite A300D-14P with Athlon X2 Dual-Core QL-60 and Radeon Mobility HD 3200 256mb.
Does anybody know if it can deliver full hd (1080i or p) video via its HDMI?
If owners of the subject exist on this forum, may I ask them humbly to try to run any full hd content (preferably h.256)?
    Thanks
    A

The questions is resolved. GPU takes care of HD decoding according to http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Radeon-HD-3200.9591.0.html
In this case it has nothing to do with CPU. Though I did not get you comment that movies stored on HDD are not of real HD quality. I m now having a couple of 1440x1080p clips on my another laptop and they are of real HD quality, though I cant watch them on notebook LCD screen in real qiality because of low lcd matrix resolution.

  • Could Troubleshoot a Mac Using Screen Share From 30 Km Away?

Hi. How far does Screen Share work? Could it be used to troubleshoot a Mac from another city or from a really far place?
Do you have full access to the other Mac using Screen Share. What can it do?
    Gbu.

It would be most accurate to say it works exactly as it would as if you were sitting in front of the actual Mac. For example, if you do something like install software and the other Mac asks you for the admin password for that account, and you don't know it, the installation will not proceed. But otherwise you can click and drag and type anything you want.
Screen sharing works a lot like the other "sharing" services on a Mac, it is primarily and most easily used on a local network, but there are ways to use Screen Sharing across the Internet. They are the same ways as for any other network sharing service, which is, you have to know the IP address of the router that the Mac is behind, and there must be a port open the router to let outsiders in who know the password, and then you tunnel through to the actual Mac you want. You can look up Mac screen sharing over the web in Google.

  • How can I 'screen share' from my Lion machine to my old Tiger mac?

    I have a new MacPro running 10.7.3.
I have an old Mac desktop running Tiger (10.4)
I can't seem to screen share.
I want to remotely control the old Tiger machine from my Lion one.
I checked 'Remote Desktop' on the Tiger- but still no happiness.
I CAN mount the drives from that older computer just fine.
    mark

Mark, sorry for any misunderstanding, CoVNC is only needed if you want to control the newer one with the old one.
    On the old one enable...
    Personal File Sharing
    Remote Login
    Apple Remote Desktop
    Remote Apple Events
On the ARD choice click Access Privileges and fill in what & who can do what.
Easiest to sign into the old one with the old one's username & old one's PW if you checked that as OK on the old one.

  • No Video Via HDMI With Denon Receiver

I just purchased a Denon 2307 receiver and I am attempting to use my MacBook as my DVD player. I purchased a DVI-HDMI cable and plugged my MacBook directly into the receiver. An Optoma HD70 projector is connected to the HDMI out connection on the receiver. However, I get no video and the receiver just clicks while it searches for something connected to the HDMI2 connection. Audio works via an optical cable, however.
If I connect my MacBook directly to the projector I get video. Either way, the MacBook System Preferences recognizes a 2nd monitor, either DENON-AV or OPTOMAHD70. So, I know it is not the cable. I also know it is not the HDMI2 connection because I tried HDMI1 as well. Normally, I have an HD TiVo connected to HDMI1.
Searching the forums and performing random Google searches has yielded nothing except one vaugue reference to a lack of HDCP on the MacBook. I currently don't have any other adpaters/cables to test this theory, i.e. vga-component... which I am unsure would work anyway.
On the AVSForums, someone with an intel Mac mini and a Denon 2807 receiver got them to work together. Yes, they are different models, but I mention it because they are of the same most recent generation.
    Will this setup ever work?
Thanks in advance for any help.

As a side note, I tested my setup with a different receiver, a Denon 4306 model, and I was able to display video. What could be specific to the 2307 model that would prevent me from displaying video?

  • HT201177 How can I resolve the HDCP issues when playing 1080p video via HDMI to my HDTV?

Palying back any video (iTunes 1080p purchase, Netflix) via the HDMI port results in screen issues on my HDTV. FLickering, odd noises, etc. I did get a HDCP warning but my TV is HDCP compliant. Any ideas? Thanks.

Shivneet wrote: ... I would like the display for the MacBook to be turned off so I can see video only on my TV. ... Is there any way to achieve this?
    Not that I could find.
The easiest workaround that I could find is a trimmed piece of Black Construction Paper taped over the Mac's display.
Alternatively, you could use an external Mac Compatible Web Cameras and then close the lid, but that is a higher cost option.

  • Apple TV keeps requiring full reset to output video via HDMI after update..

Never had this problem until after iphone 2 and latest itunes/itv update, but now I have to do a full reset of my Apple TV in order to get video output to work again. Once done, it works fine until I switch to another source and back again, then it again requires this reset. Again, I had never had the problem before the last update with the exact same equipment...
SIAP, but I didn't see anything else listed with the same problems...

I reply to myself, as I found a (however inconvenient) workaround. I have a Samsung LCD, I don't know about you logicguru. Say the Apple TV's HDMI source is HDMI1 and your cable whatever is on HDMI2. So I watch Apple TV on HDMI1, then flip over to another source. Now regularly one would keep pressing source to get back to HDMI1 to get back to Apple TV. Instead, I wait a couple of seconds, hit Menu on the Remote, select the Connections or whatever option at the bottom, go to Source there, and select HDMI1 there. Also, it only works when the Apple TV is in screensaver mode (I have the photo collection scrolling at this time). If I do the way detailed above, there's no problem going back to the white box. I think this can almost be considered as voodoo.

  • Why would one of my MacBook Airs be able to Screen Share from work with the iMac at home while the other MBA not...?

I have 2 13-inch MacBook Airs. Also an iMac.
I could ScreenShare  from both laptops at work with the iMac at home.
Suddenly I can only do so from one MBA, which sees the iMac, no problem.
But the other MBA cannot sse it any longer.
The MBAs can see each other.
All running the same OS and Apps.
    Only difference is...
All have Multiple Apple IDs. ( 2 )
But one MBA was recently set to use the 2nd Apple ID as the main Apple ID
while the other MBA still uses the 1st, as does the iMac.
    What is happening...?

    That's the reason.
Unless you're using VNC or Apple Remote Desktop (which I assume you are not) both the MacBook Air and the the iMac need to be using the same iCloud account.
System Preferences>iCloud and make sure Back to My Mac is checked.

  • Screen share window size is wrong following Mavericks upgrade

Hi, I use screen share quite a bit, both over LAN but also over the internet and love the feature. I usually have no problems, but after the upgrade to Mavericks on my iMac and Mac Mini (Both 2011 models), I've started seeing problems with the window size of screen share.
Going from my Mavericks iMac to my Lion Macbook pro, there's no problem, and my imac shows a screen share window that is the resolution of the MBP (1440x900). But if I do screen share from my iMac (2550x1440), to my Mac mini (Which is attached by HDMI to a HDTV at 1920x1080), the window gets continuously smaller on each session, and it is now stuck at what I would guess is 320x240.
How can I change this size? I assume is has something to do with Mavericks horrible resolution handling, as I don't get a list of resolutions over HDMI anymore in System Preferences, which was nice and easy in pre-Mavericks OS'.

Thanks, using the zoom button did actually improve quite a bit. It is not full resolution, but almost twice the size it was before and definitely usefull, thanks! Never though about doing that..
Scaling manually doesnt work over the current max window resolution though.

  • How do you switch output sounds   set to my external monitor that is connected via HDMI.

How do you switch output sounds   set to my external monitor that is connected via HDMI.

    Hello gail from Ajijic,
If you'd like to change the audio output of your Mac, you can do so by accessing the Sound preferences in your System Preferences.
Before you start, open the Output pane of Sound preferences (choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Sound, then click Output).
    Choose a sound output device
From the list of sound output devices, select the one you want to use. All sound output devices available to your Mac are listed, including the computer’s internal speakers, devices plugged into your computer’s sound port (), USB speakers, and AirPlay devices.
For any device plugged into the computer’s sound port, choose Headphones.

  • Automatically accept screen sharing from specific user ???

My mother is a newbie mac user. To be honest, she's a newbie computer user - full stop. She did inherit my PC laptop when I switched, but within a week she had crashed it. The mac she has is still running. (And guess who got it for her. I'm a good daughter.)
Anyway - her G4 Powermac is running Leopard like a dream. In fact it is much faster now than before. Still, she has a few issues. Like the other day, she couldn't get music through her speakers and I'm abroad at the time.
I asked her to accept a screen share, she did. I fixed the speaker issue and closed the screen share. She is happy as larry. But that got me thinking. Is it possible to automatically accept screen share from certain users? That would be a great help if that would be possible.
    Thanks in advance.

Musicsites, here is your answer. Just follow the instructions completely and it will work quite well. I have it running and it allows my iMac to automatically answer incoming Screen Sharing requests ONLY from my MacBook.

  • Screen sharing from computer to Xbox

I was trying to screen share from my coputer to an xbox, but there was some sort of error and it wouldn't let me do it.

    Hi,
Receiving screen sharing on XB1 is not yet officially supported, so it may not work as expected.
Could you let me know some details around this:
    1. Did you use latest Skype version from www.skype.com on your computer?
    2. What was the exact error message you got?
    3. Does the issue happen every time you try to share screen with XB1?
