No Video When 'Mirror Displays' Checked

I have a macbook pro with 10.5.7. I connected an acer 22" lcd. OSX extends my desktop and the monitor works perfectly fine.
When I check 'mirror displays', I completely lose video on both monitors. I have to pull the plug on the acer to make video come back on my macbook pro. When I reconnect, I lose video every time now.
How can I somehow uncheck 'mirror displays' without the other monitor connected so that when I do connect it, it at least extends my desktop again? The option and tab is gone unless a second display is connected. however, if i connect it, i lose video and cant get to it to uncheck! is the a plist or something I can edit?

• Quick way to change "Optimize for" setting when "mirror displays" is on?

Is there a quick way to change "Optimize for" setting when "mirror displays" is on?
I have two displays on my Mac Mini for totally different areas; I can't see the first monitor when I'm on the second. One is 1280x1024, one is 1920x1200. As I switch fairly often I'm wondering if there is a built-in or 3rd-party-utility way to quickly toggle the "optimize for" setting that is under "System Preferences" -> "Displays" -> "Display" tab -> "Optimize for:" dropdown box.
As Apple sadly doesn't make a all-in-one keyboard / mouse - need one as one of the monitors is used for just a very comfy chair, so keyboard is on my lap - I'm using an Lenovo ThinkPad USB Travel Keyboard, model SK-8855, and some key cobinations, esp. with function keys, seem not to work on it. So something from the desktop context menu or that allows you to set the hotkey would be preferable.
Thanks for any help,
-DJBC

I'm thinking that, Display Menu from the Mac App Store will help.

• HT201335 iphone 4s; no video when mirroring

airplay mirrors sound but no video on apple tv 2. everything is up to date, also does not have option to turn on mirroring when tapping apple tv on airplay screen

Mirroring and general airplay are separate things. You are simply using airplay, and the developers need to enable that or else you will only receive audio.
You can not enable mirroring within an app. You have to double tap the home button, swipe (left to right motion) twice and you will see the airplay icon. Tap it, select ATV and toggle ON mirroring

• Apple TV 2 choppy video playback when mirroring from Macbook Pro (Yosemite) and Macbook Air (Yosemite) but not iOS devices

Video playback is choppy (cuts out every 30-45 seconds) when air playing from both my MacBook Air 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5 running Yosemite and my husbands new MacBook Pro, but runs perfectly when mirroring from any of our iOS devices (iPhone 6+, iPad mini 3, etc.) We have Apple TV 2. This problem just started a few weeks ago, was working fine around Christmas. The problem seems to have coincidentally started right after our son tried plugging in and setting up his Chromecast on our tv. I disconnected the Chromecast, but we still have the problem. All of our software if up to date and I've tried disconnecting blue tooth, we do not have a microwave and our wifi network has a very strong signal. We have an Airport Extreme base station. Is there a solution to our problem?

Hi leahmturner,
I see that you are experiencing an issue with choppiness while AirPlay Mirroring from your computers to your Apple TV. I have an article that contains some helpful troubleshooting steps for you regarding this issue:
About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X - Apple Support
http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201343
Optimizing image quality
Resolution matching modes
You can choose between two desktop resolution matching modes that let you select which display will have the best image. When AirPlay Mirroring is turned on, select an option under "Match Desktop Size To:" in the AirPlay Mirroring menu extra.
Match Desktop Size To: Apple TV
AirPlay Mirroring changes the desktop resolution to best match your Apple TV, resulting in a 16:9 image that fills the HDTV screen. This setting often produces the sharpest image on the HDTV. The aspect ratio and/or resolution of the built-in Mac display may change to accommodate the Apple TV.
Match Desktop Size To: This Mac
AirPlay Mirroring scales the contents of the desktop to fit on the Apple TV, leaving the resolution of your Mac's display unchanged. Use this setting for the sharpest image on your Mac's display. Depending on your Mac model, the resulting image may not fill the HDTV screen.
Troubleshooting AirPlay Mirroring
If you don't see mirroring options
If your Mac and Apple TV are on the same network, but no AirPlay Mirroring menu appears, your Apple TV may be asleep. Simply press a button on your Apple TV remote to wake it up. After a few seconds, the AirPlay Mirroring menu extra appears. If you still don't see the options you expect, make sure your Apple TV has the current software update installed. Also make sure that you have the "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" option selected in the Displays pane of System Preferences.
If the menu bar or Dock is cropped
Some HDTVs have bezels that cover a small percentage of the screen. This can result in a slight cropping of a full-resolution HDTV image. Depending on the HDTV model, AirPlay Mirroring may automatically adjust the picture size to prevent cropping. If you are using OS X Mountain Lion or later, and you see cropping of the menu bar or Dock when using AirPlay Mirroring, toggle the Overscan correction option in Displays preferences.
Minimize video post-processing
HDTVs often apply picture quality enhancements intended to improve the look of film and video sources. In some cases, these enhancements can lead to over-sharpening artifacts when displaying your Mac desktop. Some HDTV models have built-in settings to change or disable the enhancements for use with a computer (computer, presentation, or game modes). Otherwise, the controls for sharpness, detail enhancement and noise reduction can be used to optimize the appearance of the Mac desktop. Consult your HDTV’s manual for guidance on the appropriate settings for use with a computer.
Firewall security settings
If you use a firewall, make sure the following firewall security options have been set to allow AirPlay Mirroring to work:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu ().
Click Security & Privacy, then click Firewall.
Click the lock icon to unlock it if it's locked, then type an administrator name and password.
Click Firewall Options.
Deselect (uncheck) the “Block all incoming connections” checkbox.
Select (check) the “Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections” checkbox.
Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

• HT1338 When I try to link my Macbook to my TV, I cannot find the "Arrangement" button that would lead me to "Mirror Display". Please help!

When I try to link my Macbook to my TV, I cannot find the "Arrangement" button that would lead me to "Mirror Display". Please help!

The Arrangement tab only appears in System Preferences Displays pane if a second display is recognized by the system (the OS). So it seems like your MacBook is not seeing the TV as being connected.
Describe the video connection between MacBook and TV... What type of video out port does your MacBook model have? How is it converted to the type of port used on the TV?

• Is it possible to turn off imac display while mirrored display plays video?

I've set up a new 21.5" imac for my parents use in their living room and have connected their 52" lcd tv to the imac as a mirrored display.
One issue that i can't find a solution to is to find a way to turn OFF the imac display when they're watching content on the lcd tv. If they want to watch a film from the imac out to the LCD TV, they want to dim the lights and watch it, but the imac display being on in the dark room is distracting.
Is their any way (3rd party software??) to turn off the imac display while still being able to have the mirrored display running?

You should actually NOT use mirroring, although it would work OK on the 21.5-inch iMac because the screen resolution is identical to 1080p HDTV.
In System Preferences Displays pane Arrangement tab, turn mirroring OFF. This makes the HDTV screen extend the iMac's Desktop. In the diagram on that pane, it shows how the two screen arranged. The edge where they touch is where you can move your mouse cursor from one screen to the other. You can move the two screen around in the diagram, to match how the iMac and HDTV are located in the real world.
In System Preferences Displays pane Display tab, there will be a window for each screen. The 21.5-inch iMac's screen should be set to 1920x1080. The HDTV's screen should be set to 1920x1080 also, if it is a "1080p" HDTV.
To watch video content on the HDTV, first show the video playing in a window. Drag the window to the HDTV screen so that it is completely on that screen. Give the full screen command (usually Command-F). The video will play in full screen mode on the HDTV screen. In most video playing applications, such as DVD Player, QuickTime Player, iTunes, etc., the other screen (the iMac's screen in this case) will go black. It's not OFF, but it will display black.
Note: Some video playing apps have a preference setting for which screen gets the full screen. When playing video content in a browser window (such as YouTube or Hulu), when you go to full screen mode by clicking the +full screen+ button, the other screen will not go black.
As far as I know, there is no way to turn off the iMac display, even with mirroring turned OFF.

• Video does not display when sending from Final Cut Pro to Motion

Suddenly, when sending an audio & video sequence to Motion, a new Motion file is created, and all my layers come in properly, but the video does not display.
The audio plays fine, and Motion clearly know that there are video tracks there, but it does not display them.
Additionally, when rendering the Motion file back in FCP, it turns in to black video.
I have previous sequences within the same project that were sent just fine, and are editable properly, but any new ones I try to create just come out black.
Help, please?

Do you have Motion mistakenly set to render out with an Alpha channel?
Double click your Motion clip in the Timeline. Go to Modify > Composite Mode in the menu bar and set the Alpha to "None/Ignore".

• How do you display a swf video / videos when you mouse over

How do you display a swf video / videos when you mouse over, It'll be something like a pop up but just that it doesn't open in another windows but within the same window and will be like a pop up roll over image.

Thank you for the reply.
I've been putzing around with it and came across the 'SetEventHandler' object and thought I'd try and make that one work.
Here's what I've got so far.
<mx:SetEventHandler target="{turnAroundMovie}" name="handleMovieClip" handler="stopMovie()"/>
And then my fuction.
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
private function stopMovie():void{
turnAroundMovie.stop(); <!-- here's where I'm getting stuck -->
]]>
</mx:Script>
My first instinct was the simple stop(), but that didn't fly. I even added a stopMovie frame in my .swf and tried a gotoAndStop('stopMovie'); but that didn't fly either. And that's kind of where I'm stuck at.

• When Importing a Mpeg 4 video, It converts only to a wav file...no video file or display

I need to add some sound fx, and some voice over to a tv commercial. I usually do this in protools, but I only have access to adobe audition at the moment. The file is an MPEG-4 H.264, AAC.. After watching some videos all i thought I had to do was import the file into AA 6, and it would split it into a video track and an audio track.. However, I am only getting the audio track. I checked my -----Preferences > Media & Disk Cache and "Enable DMLS Format Support" was already clicked. I have restarted my computer and audition,, but still there is no video display, only the wav file audio from the video...How do I do this properly where I can see the video on a track or display, and then have the audio separate so I can edit it,,add fx, voice over, while the video is being displayed?
Any help would be much appreciated.
-thx

Any chance you can share a screenshot of your Files panel? Video files, if the codec is supported, should import as the mp4 file (which contains the video stream) and a separate audio file is generated. Both of which can be dragged into a multitrack session, as you expect.
Audition CS6 does rely upon "DLMS" (which stands for DynamicLink Media Server) and can take a few additional seconds to launch. It's possible this isn't launching properly. Let's find out.
Launch Audition, wait 30 seconds or so, then launch Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.app Sort alphabetically and look for a process named "dynamiclinkmediaserver" Does it exist in the process list? Does it appear to be failing in some way? You can also launch Console.app and see if OS X thinks it's failing to launch, and why.
If that seems okay, try opening the MP4 file again, but try the following method:
Click File > Open
In the Enable dropdown at the bottom of the dialog, select MPEG Movie
Select your video file and click Open.
Please let us know your results and we can continue to troubleshoot

• HT204291 Showing checked screen when mirroring hd itunes movies from macbook to tv?

Showing checked screen when mirroring hd itunes movies from macbook to tv?

it's dvd's DRM encryption kicking in
it's by design if you use remote desktop from another computer to the computer
the same thing would happen
people say that the free player vlc don't have the issue
if that is the case then vlc are breaking the law as stripping a dvd's movie stream of encryption is not really legal

• External Display Blurry when Mirrored

I have a 20" viewsonic VX2035 that is hooked up to my gaming rig. If I use it with my MBP and choose the mirror displays setting, when the Viewsonic is at its proper resolution (1680x1050) everything looks blurry. When at its correct resolution and not mirrored it looks normal. And it looks normal but slightly distorted if mirrored and at the 1440x900.
Any ideas?

I've found exactly the same thing.
In "mirror mode", the external display (for me a 23" cinemadisplay HD) uses the macbookpro's internal screen's resolution (though it does uprez it), even though on screen preferences it may be set much higher (1920x1200 on mine). Hence the fuzziness.
In "dual display" mode, and in lid-closed mode (where the external display is the only one on), it works perfectly.
Not sure why this is. If anyone has a fix, please post.
(this on a January 08 macbook pro and cinemadisplay)

• When I uncheck "mirror displays" my laptop color changes badly

I have a new Vizio external monitor connected via HDMI and thunderbolt adapter to my Macbook Pro (2013) (10.9.5). In System Preferences, when I am mirroring displays all is well. But when I uncheck "Mirror Displays", the color on my laptop drastically changes. All of a sudden it's heavily orange and blue, although the color on my monitor is unchanged either way. Thoughts? Help!

• Apple tv won't display video when I try to use airplay to display amazon videos, only audio.

It will display an icon showing now playing, but only as an audio. I can listen to The Magnificent Seven but not watch it. I have tried to use airplay on my iphone, ipad and fire tablet all with the same results. The only change in the system is a new router. It is a netgear router and the apple tv is plugged dirrectly into it. I think that is my problem but am unsure why I see an icon, hear audio, but get not video. I've checked the settings on the apple tv and it is updated. Is it the settings on my router that's causing the problem?

Hello! I don't have personal experience with Amazon videos, but I do know that a lot of content has DRM embedded in it that prevents streaming like this from working. Often you'll see checkerboard.
