Welcome to the Apple Discussions
This will need to be done slightly differently.
Turn off the DHCP in the Actiontec
Then set the Airport device in the Internet tab to be Static (you will need to take down the IP of the modem, the DNS servers and the Subnet mask to enter them in the New text fields before hand)
Then in the Network tab set the DHCP to work again.
The Static routing will then only be between the Modem and the Airport and will not get passed further as DHCP would be.
The Airport does not need ports to be forwarded.
Unfortunately iChat does not always like this two device and two incidents of NAT (I can not remember if the Airport can do DHCP without the NAT).
As the Modem to Airport is a Static set up it has more chance of working.

Actiontec M1424WR Router compatible with the new VMS1100 Cable Box

Hello all,
Been trying to upgrade to the new Quantum Fios. To begin Verizon never sent me a upgraded router that was compatible with the VMS1100 set top box.
They shipped me the Actiontec M1424WR Router looks like my old router but with a red front piece. I'm getting 75/75 service as well.
This is an older router still. In fact its not even in production anymore. My concern is that it's not going to work with the new VMS1100. Hate to go through the process of setting it up and it doesn't work.
Can anyone help and clarify if this older router will still work with the VMS1100 set top box?

VMS will work with the Actiontec Rev I or the Fios Quantum Gateway router.

Trying to use Airport Express to extend network created by Actiontec M1424WR (FiOS)

I would like to use two Airport Expresses to extend my home network which is created with my Actiontec M1424WR. My ISP is Verizon FiOS. I previously had TimeWarner and used one of my Expresses to create the WiFi and the second Express to extend it. Now that I have a modem/router provided by Verizon, I'd like to utilize both Airports as extenders. I have a two story house and the signal is "fair" upstairs. I would like to use my Roku player to access my home library via Plex. My problem(s):
I used a hard reset to restore my Expresses to the default settings because my Airport Utility could not find them and my old network is not active anymore. After the reset I was able to find them but I kept getting an "unexpected error occurred try again later" message. After this message my Macbook OS X 10.8.5 could not connect to the internet anymore. I had to go to System Preferences ---> Network ---> Assist Me.. ---> Assistant ---> and then found my network and reconnected. So my Macbook is connected again but my Airport Expresses sit unused..
My Network:
Modem/Router ->     1. PC
                               2. PC #2
                               3. Xbox
                               4. D-link 5 port gigabit switch -> a. Directv b. xbox #2 c. xbox #3   d. THIS IS WHERE I WANT MY AIRPORT
I would like one Airport, connected via ethernet and towards the back of the house, extending my network and the other, connected via wifi and upstairs, also extending my network.
If anyone has time on their hands to help me with my problem I would greatly appreciate it.

I followed Kappy's advice and connected one AEX to my modem/router using a 50ft ethernet cable, creating a new network.   I connect my second AEX wirelessly to the first, extending the network. The first AEX was placed towards the back of the house and the 2nd AEX was placed upstairs. I was able to stream netflix on two devices upstairs while streaming a movie using plex from one pc downstairs to a roku player upstairs without any buffering at all. All three were in HD and my brother was playing multiplayer on his xbox (wired). It works! Thanks Kappy!

Add a WiFi modem to the Actiontec M1424WR

We have an Actiontec M1424WR Rev e modem/router.
We have the Verizon Double Play bundle, Internet and Phone only, no TV, and with the iMac connected to the Actiontec via Ethernet cable, our speeds are excellent. E.g., On a Saturday morhing, the iMac gets d/l speeds of 58Mbpa, u/l speeds of 34Mbps
The internet signal comes into the Actiontec via Coax cable.
The Actiontec is located on the third floor of a three-floor townhouse.
The WiFi signal to the AppleTV three floors away can be _dismal_ at prime time in the evenings. A recent Ookla speedtest returned 1.47 d/l, 3.58 u/l, 66 ping.
I have seen posts indicating that the Actiontec M1424WR gets poor ratings for WiFi signal strength and have seen posts claiming that you can turn off the WiFi on the Actiontec and add a WiFi capable modem with a good reputation for wireless strength. Specifically, I see a lot of recommendations for ASUS routers.
Can any of you network gurus confirm this?
Would this be a good plan for acheiving better WiFi signals at the AppleTV?
Is there another way which does not involve pulling ethernet cable throughout the house?

I doubt any WiFi device will work well through 3 floors of a building.
Might you already have coax running to the TV on the first floor? If so, a fairly simple solution would be a MoCA adapter, such as the Actiontec ECB 2200.

The 8+ year old Express that you have will require a 5.x version of AirPort Utility to administer the product.
Might you have an older Mac running Leopard (10.5.x), Snow Leopard (10.6.x) or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the computer?

I see all movies and music available to be sync but when I click on the sync button, the process starts, the bottom bar shows an increase in consumed space then nothing happens and the bar goes back as nothing was added.

No. Photo stream only streams photos, not videos. To transfer videos between your devices you can either import them to iTunes and sync them, or (more conveniently) use an app like PhotoSync or Bump.

How do I import AVI video with stereo audio (and keep it that way)?

Today I just discovered that all the AVI video with stereo audio I've ever imported into a Premiere Pro CS6 project has been mysteriously converted to mono. And I can't find any import setting anywhere that enable me to change this.
Here's the deal...
I've have an AVI file with stereo audio (the file is actually a stereo sound test that I downloaded to prove that I wasn't imagining things). On my hard drive, I right-click and view the properties:
Video
Length: 00:00:36
Frame width: 320
Frame height: 240
Frame rate: 25 frames/second
Audio
Bit rate: 128kbps
Channels: 2 (stereo)
Audio sample rate: 44 kHz
I click on it to play and listen with headphones--everything is playing in the correct part of the stereo spectrum. Then, I import it to Premiere, click the file name in the left content menu, and check the properties, suddenly they read:
Type: AVI Movie
File Size: 1.1 MB
Image Size: 320 x 240
Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 11025 Hz - 16 bit - Mono
Project Audio Format: 11025 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Mono
Total Duration: 00:00:36:15
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
Sure enough, I drag it into the sequence, listen to it, and it's indeed playing mono. Outside of Premiere, the original source file still reads and plays correctly with stereo sound.
When I import stereo WAVs and MP3s, it keeps the original stereo channels without me having to do anything special. I even just imported the same exact file as a MOV with stereo audio, and it showed up in Premiere as:
Source Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
What is going on here with AVIs? Am I doing something wrong? Are there settings I'm missing somewhere?
(And before anyone suggests I only use MOV in the future... that's not exactly the answer I'm looking for.)

For video, the codec is MPEG-4 Video (XVID) and for audio it says MPEG Audio Layer 1/2/3 (mpga).
There are two issues with that file:
The first is the Xvid CODEC (not meant for editing), and then the MPEG Audio/MPGA. I would convert that file, to something that is more editable.

How can I create a video with effects (sepia, B&W, Negative, oval or any other shape borders) using my ipad? I would Like to keep a higher res and also be able to shrink it down to email or send in a MMS. Or should I just upload it to my PC and mess with it there? Some of the apps I have are very easy to use compared to the learning curve needed for video editing software.

Thats the Problem . . . how many apps do I have to try until I find the one I want? I noticed a few will render the video thus losing its original size. When I went to edit it more in iMovie the video was smaller--not good. And what software do you suggest, Templeton, for the PC? I love the apps because they are easy. I dont have hours to mess around on a software to figure out if its something I want. Im looking for simplicity. Maybe Ill get more into it later. I just want to record simple video of my playing the guitar for self analysis and create a short video for family and friends.

Not entirely sure what you mean, but if it's that you want to download and install flash then you can't - it is not supported on the iPad (http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/). Browser apps such as Skyfire claim to support flash bu their reviews are mixed. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store, so you could check to see if any of your favoutrite sites have apps.
