No "Voice Dialer" prompting after GB Update

Has anyone else had an issue with the stock "voice dialer" no longer working properly since the recent OTA to 2.3.4 (Gingerbread)?  I have the same "won't appear / won't disappear" issue with the voicemail notifications, but I have one other issue, and that is that the voice dialer no longer works for me with voice prompting.  I installed the Google text-to-speech data download (which I had to do last update as well), but it has not solved the problem.  This is especially troublesome if I want to make a hands-free call with either my Bluetooth headset or the link in my car.  I did the OTA on the first day (Wed late afternoon) and am now finding the broken voice dialing prompting to be a major hangup.  I push the button and hear nothing.  It will record what I say and then I have to push a button on the screen to confirm the dialing, but without voice prompting, I have no idea if it got the number correct or not.  I read elsewhere from one other forum where an individual had this same problem and a few users suggested using the free "Vlingo" app from the Android Market instead.  I gave it a try, but it behaves oddly with the bluetooth connection (e.g. prompting doesn't come through my headset, but the phone's speaker, though it will use the mic from the headset).  I want my stock "voice dialer" to work again.  Help anyone?

I solved my issue today within minutes of knocking at the VZW store's door to roll me back to Froyo.  Ready folks?
1.  Turn off your phone.
2.  Remove the backing, battery, and sd card
3.  Leave it sit for a bit
4.  Reinsert the battery and sd card
5.  Perform a restart (hold in the power button)
Phone restarted.  Connected to the car bluetooth.  Now pressing the button to dial brings the voice prompting for dialing back again!
I have restarted the phone since then and the setting has been retained.  If you lost your voice dialing prompting, please try these steps.  Don't know why they worked (when a restart did not), but it did!
Now I just have the broken VM prompt that everyone else is experiencing...  Hope a fix is soon.

  • Password prompt after iOS5 update...SOLVED!!!

Not sure if anyone is dealing with this but upon updating to the new iOS, a prompt box popped up in iTunes asking me to enter a password to access my backup files even though I never remembered setting one. So I tried my Apple ID, along with my usual passwords and nothing. I then tried my Windows user account password (as I'm on a PC), and...IT WORKED! Give it a shot...I've heard it works on Mac's too.

I eventually solved the problem although it took me another 24 hours. The issue is with the latest release of itunes. There is a check box under the Backup section to encrypt. I have never encypted any backup before so it seems like this a default on latest itunes. After I had worked out what the password was...It was just a generic one the I use for various applications I managed to restore my backup file. And it wasn't my Apple ID, not 0000 or 12345 or anything similar.
Problem then was that it tried to copy my backup file on top of the existing files, i.e. I had 28gb of hidden files that just showed up as OTHER on my iphone so couldn't actually restore my backup files as obviously there was no space left on the phone. I then had reset the iphone to factory settings and reinstall everything from scratch. Needless to say I have uncheecked the encrypt files ox on my itunes. I have warned everyone else I know who owns an iphone not to update their operating system until I can guide them through it.

  • N70 - Voice dialing deactivated after firmware upd...

Okey, this is making my head explode.
I got my fathers old N70 phone since he have bought a new N95. My last phone was BenQ-Siemens EF81, worst buggy phone ever, so I was pretty excited.
By nature, the first thing I did was upgrading firmware. Last firmware I has was v2 something, now I have the last one from Nokia Auto Updater.
A feature I discovered by an accident was the one where the phone had made a voicetag for every contact I had, and i could automatically call them without any big problems.
But after the stupid firmware update (that I think did no good), the feature isn't working right! I discovered that I could isolate the problem in one way. I formatted the phone, no contacts what so ever left, made a new one, opened "Voice Comm." settings, tada! Voicetag made, but if I use my MacBook to iSync all my contacts, it won't work! And it did before the update (I used iSync then too).
    So, what's wrong?
Have Nokia messed up with the firmware?

    Okey, funny thing.
I have no idea how, but I fixed it.
Since I've searched my **bleep** off for an answer, and know that not finding an solution can be frustrating, I'll tell exactly what I did.
    1) Formatted the phone with 3 + Star + Green callbutton.
    2) Made an contact in my blank contactlist for fun.
    3) Started "Voice Comm." program.
    4) Used iSync for adding contacts.
    5) Started "Voice Comm." program again.
    6) Tada, should be working. Worked for me!
Hope this workaround helps people that has the same problem. Not only is the Voice Dialling function useful, it's also fun as hell when it calls wrong people!

  • HP Slate 7 Voice Tab overheat after kitkat update

    Hi,
I was using my Slate 7 voide tab for last around 8 months without any major issue. Minor issues like touch becomes very sluggish after switching on 3G was normal.
Yesterday kitkat update got installed on my tab and than nightmare starts. First "clean master" app is showing alert periodically that CPU is overheating (80 degree celsius). Today tab got hanged while some important call was coming. I was able to see people calling but touch was not responding. Tried to hard boot, but again some process error came on screen and whole tab was in hanged state for an hour. I can only see people calling and calling.
When battery got drained, I restarted it but CPU temperature is always above 80 degree celsius and I believe its obviously much above normal. I never got these problems with Jelly Beans.
Its really very frustrating to know why HP released an update which is full of bugs!!!

    Hey @Abhinandank ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're experiencing issues with heat after updating to KitKat on your Slate 7 VoiceTab.
Before troubleshooting any heat issue, remove the tablet from the case if you are using one. Test the tablet without the case and see if the issue persists.
You can also try apps like Android Task Manager that will sweep running processes and boost memory to reduce load on your tablet.
    Regarding the touchscreen:
Clear all cache on the tablet: Settings > Storage > Cached Data. You should have the option to erase all the cached data here.
Hard reset: While the tablet is on, press and hold the power button for 8+ seconds to force shut down. Turn the tablet back on and see if that helps.
Factory reset: Make sure you backup any important files or information first. Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset.

  • N95 8GB restarts when trying to use Voice Dial on ...

Ok, so when I have my N95 8GB connected to either a line-out speaker or a blue-tooth earphone, the strangest thing happens. When I try to use voice-dial, right after I say the name I want to dial - the phone freezes. When I press any key on the phone, it restarts. Voice dial works fine when no external device is attached, but if I even connect earphones - it breaks. Anyone experienced this? I'm using FW 35.0.001 Thanks, Ambious

It sounds like that where the phone stores the voice tags has become corrupt so that when the unit tries to access them the phone gets unrecognised data which in turn resets the handset.
Take the unit to yur nearest NSC for a software upgrade.
    Hope this works for you.

  • Voice dial turns on after Update

    Hello,
first, sorry for my bad english.
I have an iPhone 5S. I deactivated Voice Dial (Settings - General - Touch ID - Voice Dial) because my little daughter loves to play with my iPhone. But after any iOS Update, the Voice Dial function is turned on. And after any Update i recognized it after my daughter "call" someone. Hope Apple will fix this bug.

Are you sure you lost the app, or did you just lose the widget?  Reason I'm asking is that the small square widget that we had in Gingerbread was replaced by a bar-looking widget in ICS; Google Search and Voice Search are now combined on that bar-looking widget (the Google Search widget mentioned in the earlier post).  Since you said that the Play Store said it was installed on the phone, have you verified that by going into Manage Apps and seeing if Voice Search is listed under All?

  • IPhone 5c voice dial cannot be disabled after software update. Is there any way around this?

iPhone 5c voice dial cannot be disabled after software update. Is there any way around this?

Hi! It seems you found a bug on iOS 7.1
To disable Voice dials try this, (I saw in an iPhone website here in Brazil):
    1. Turn on Siri (settings > General > Siri)
    2. go to  (Settings >Passcode > Voice Dial) trust me, it appears now
    3. disable Voice Dial
    4. go back and disable Siri
    hope this could help you!!

  • Jelly Bean update completely killed true hands free voice dialing.

Regardless of the fact that S-Voice (as well as Google Voice dialing/search) is unable to recognize most of my contacts, it's also a fact that by definition, it cannot work as a true hands free voice dialer, which is defined as the ability to make a call without touching (or even seeing) the phone AT ALL.  This is due to the simple fact that neither S-Voice nor Google Voice dial/search allows you to say "yes" or "no" to a phone number confirmation prompt.  In other words, you need to see the screen at some point in order select the correct number to dial.  Prior to the Jelly Bean update, this issue was relatively easily solved by using a third party app -- I preferred an app called "Cyberon Voice Commander" -- to take over the voice dialing duties.  The first time you hit the Bluetooth button after installing the app, you could select the default program to respond to the BT button.  I simply selected the Cyberon Voice Commander app, and everything worked from this point forward -- I could dial a number without ever taking the phone out of it's case.
With the Jelly Bean update, however, this is suddenly no longer possible because S-Voice completely takes over the Bluetooth button, and does not allow another app to take over as the default.  The "launch by default" section for S-Voice in the application manager is now greyed out, and says "no defaults set" for S-Voice even though S-Voice is set as the default program to launch when pressing the BT button.  The only "potential" solution is to completey "disable" S-Voice via the application manager, which does allow you to select Cyberon Voice Commander as the default BT button press app, but there are two problems with this.  First, the default resets when turning the phone on even though you select "always" for the CVC app.  This means that you have to re-select the third party app as the default BT button app EVERY time the phone is turned off.  Second, disabling S-Voice is not a solution because I still would like to use it for things OTHER than voice dialing.  Disabling it completely removes it from the menu, making it unusable even for things that it is better at.
I cannot believe how hard S-Voice is being shoved down our throats.  Why would they make it mandatory?  The whole point of Android is that it's supposed to be "open" and allow users to individually decide on their own way of doing things -- i.e. to offer multiple approaches that suit your preferences rather than adopting a narrow minded "we decide what's best" attitude.  This is the whole reason that I moved away from Apple.  This S-Voice situation, however, is just ridiculous.  It's fine to push it as an "option," but please keep it OPTIONAL -- particularly given that it literally CAN'T do what other apps do (i.e. true hands free dialing.)
    Larry

A few things you can try ... turn off the phone, remove the SIM card, wait a few minutes, then reinsert the SIM card and re-boot the phone.  Maybe a fresh connection to the network will improve the signal/call quality.
Do a system cache clear; it won't delete your data:
    Power down phone
Hold volume up/down & power simultaneously until you see the Boot Mode Selection Menu
Use volume down to navigate to 'Recovery', use volume up to select
You should see screen with triangle and exclamation point next to an Android
Press volume up/down simultaneously to go into system recovery
Use volume rocker to navigate to 'wipe cache' and use power button to select
Once finished, use volume rocker to navigate to 'reboot system now' and use power button to select
If all else fails, back everything up, remove the SD card to be on the safe side, and factory reset the phone.  No, it's not a preferred option, but sometimes that is what it takes to 'clear out the cobwebs' after an operating system update.

  • Siri is prompting to unlock Iphone 6 when pressing home button for voice dial of existing contact

Just upgraded me to an IPhone 6. I restored my new phone from recent back up so all contacts, etc. are there. Also updated to latest OS.
If I depress the home button Siri is now prompting me to unlock my IPhone.
    Scenario:
Depress Home button to activate Siri
    Say "Call Home:"
Siri responds "You'll need unlock your IPhone first"
    Unlock IPhone
Siri responds "Just to confirm - you'd like to call home".
I used to be able to just say "Call home" and it would just dial.....no unlock...no confirmation.
What's changed? Is there a setting I need to tweak?
    Running iOS 8.1.1
    Thanks

    Hi teturner,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your new iPhone 6. If you are unable to voice dial from your lock screen, you may want to see if the setting to disable Siri when the phone is locked is enabled, as is noted here:
Prevent access to Siri when iPhone is locked. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode (iPhone models with Touch ID) or Settings > Passcode (other models). You can also disable Siri by turning on restrictions. See Restrictions.

  • 4.3 Update - Car Stereo Issue, voice dialing not working with Bluetooth

I've seen some similar issues reported, but they were for specific cars/stereos, and the symptoms were different, so I'm posting about mine:
Phone: Samsung Galaxy SIII, Android 4.3.
    Car Stereo: Pioneer AVH-X2500BT
This is a stereo I bought and installed myself. All of its features worked fine, and I was enjoying making calls using voice dialing via the stereo. Then, I installed the 4.3 update to the Galaxy SIII. Ever since (literally, I made a call that day before installing it, and tried shortly after), I cannot use the voice dialing feature. Any attempt to use voice dialing or voice commands via the car stereo will fail. Here's what happens:
I do a long press on the car stereo's Home button to initiate voice dialing. On my phone, S-Voice starts up, and a Toast (little message) pops up briefly that says "Check in-car audio". When I talk, the little animation on the microphone button in S-Voice does not happen, meaning it's not hearing anything. The car stereo shortly cancels out of voice dialing mode, as though it timed out, or something.
I've tried switching to Google voice, but the same thing happens. I've tried all kinds of configuration on both devices. I've unpaired and re-paired. Nothing.
Also, turn-by turn directions from Google Maps appears to not work. The app thinks it's giving them, and when I turn the car off, the voice suddenly works from the phone, but it just won't come out the stereo.
All other features work fine, including Pandora, and streaming Bluetooth audio. I can even make phone calls, by accessing the contacts and recent call list from the car stereo. The calls work and come through the stereo fine. Literally voice dialing and Google Maps are all that doesn't work.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

There could be any number of factors that may be affecting this, byounie. It may be that the firmware on your car stereo headunit may need to be updated. My direct recommendation to check first would be to access your bluetooth submenu, and next to paired info for the Pioneer AVH-X2500BT, you should see a little cog wheel/settings icon. Please select this, and start unselecting everything available there. Work your way up, and enable and test these different settings one by one, to see if there is a conflict between Google Maps and Voice dialing services. Let us know what happens, byounie.

Every time iPhone updates voice dial is reactivated!
This is annoying because I use an artone neck loop and it's easy to catch the button on my neck causing me to phone any random person.  Sometimes I forget to turn it off after the IOS update.
    Apple please fix this!!!

The behavior on the App Store (I assume that's what you mean) update page is by design. That display in descending chronological order and are clearly marked as to,whether or not they have been updated.

  • Voice dial not working after upgrading to iOS 5

After I upgraded my iPhone 4's operating system to iOS 5, voice dial is not working any more. When I press and hold the home button, voice control is enabled but only music-realted features (such as play, pause, etc) and "what time it is" work. The "dial XXX" and "call NAME" option don't work any more, and in the blue screen that is shown for voice control, I don't see the word "dial" appearing any more.
My friend who has iPhone 3GS upgraded and she doesn't have this problem.
Do I have this problem because I made a mistake during upgrade?
Is there some place where you can specifically disable/enable voice dial?
Or, is it Apple who disabled this feature, to temp iPhone 4 users to upgrade to iPhone 4S to have that feature back?

No, because I don't even know how to do that. I just restored the phone to one of the previous backups I had, using iTunes. The OS was unchanged (iOS 5) but the functionality was restored.
In this process, I lost all my applications, but my notes, contacts, etc were untouched (see below). As for apps, all I had to do was to look at the list of my apps in iTunes, and reinstall them.
If you want to do the same thing, note that you may lose your contacts or notes if you simply restore an old backup. Before you do so, enable iCloud and make sure your contacts and notes (and other important things) are backed up in iCloud. Then, after restoring your phone, enable iCloud again and it will fetch all the contacts, notes, etc that you might have added after that backup you just restored.

  • Macbook pro - iPhoto keep prompting to update after Yosemite update. Error message when trying to update -This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was cancelled

macbook pro - iPhoto keep prompting to update after Yosemite update. Error message when trying to update -This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

I only have 1 apple ID and the same was used to set up this early 2011 macbook pro and iPhoto app. I don't want to loose out on any photos. I tried logging out of app store and back in but no luck. PLEEAASEE HELPP!!!
This problem has been reported by quite a few forum members, who skipped the update to iPhoto 9.5.1 while running Mavericks. In that case try to purchase iPhoto again instead of updating.
After making your backup try the following:
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the applications folder, but do not empty the Trash.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your AppleID.
Open the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support, as Niel pointed out: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

  • Speech Agent - Static behind voices after applying update today

I'm using Captivate version 4.0.1 bld 1658.  Last week I used Paul for my speech agent and he had a mild robotic tin-canny sound behind his voice, which is fine.  Today I applied an update (help --> updates) to address not being able to hear the audio when previewing only one slide.  After updating, both Paul and Kate now have static in their voices.  I listened to audio I created last week, I still hear tin can background.  I import the same audio into a new project created today, static.  Recompile audio in previous project, static behind the voice.  When listening to the video with headphones, the static is very disturbing.
What can I do to fix the speech agent voices?  Can the encoding settings be modified for text to speech?

    Hi there
Silly question. Did you try converting Text to Speech after you updated so that the speech was re-created?

    Hi,

Does anybody knows how to fix this problem?
    Any suggestion will be appriciated.

    Hey Jack,
I guess you are facing this issue mainly with the 64-bit version products like After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop Extended 64-bit etc.
Unfortuanately, the issue is yet to resolve. So the best solution currently is to save the serial number onto a Notepad/Text Edit and when it asks for a serial number, just copy and paste it and click next. Once it shows activated, it will run as a Full version and not a Trial mode.
