No volume in quicktime
I have no volume control on the Iphone only whey in Quicktime/itunes. I do not even have the volume bar at the bottom.
Any ideas?
Thanks den.thed,
This was one of those experiences that make me wonder how I've lived as long as I have. It was right there in front of me but for some reason I just couldn't figure it out.

Low Volume In QuickTime Plugin
I'm having an unusual problem.
I just purchased a new PC with Windows Vista Business 64. I just installed QuickTime 7.6 along with the QuickTime plugin for Firefox and Internet Explorer. The problem is the volume of the plugin. In Firefox it is very low and barely audible, even though the Windows volume is at maximum. In Internet Explorer, the volume is loud, as I would expect with the maximum setting.
Is there a separate volume setting for the plugin for each browser?
Note: The volume settings in the full-blown QuickTime Player do not seem to affect the plugin. When I play the same audio file URL via the Player, it sounds correct. In Firefox though, it's very soft.
Any help is greatly appreciated./bump
I'm having the same problem, only i'm the video is for my site. The volume is fine on desktop. On my website, it's fine for me. For others it's barely audible. I have the volume="100" tag specified just in case.

Adjust Quicktime Volume Control when the application starts
3Apr07
I have a problem streaming program. Microsoft stopped supporting Widows Media Player for the Mac.
Micosoft has a application FLIP4MAC-MWV which will either open a window in Safari or has the option of opening a window in Quicktime.
My problem is: The volume level in Quicktime is too high when the stream begins. I use Wiretap Pro to record radio streams while I am at work. The default high volume distorts the recording.
I have tried and tried again to change the default volume level to a middle level, but the stream starts at max volume. How do I change that?
I also have the same problem with the Safari window level.
Can anyone tell me how to adjust the default volume in Quicktime and Safari?
Thank you for reading this post and greater thanks for any recommendations.

Thank you for you help. I actually don't use Quicktime-formated files or steams. I used to use Windows Media Player until the Wiretap Pro custormer support recommended I use Flip4Mac WMV to convert Media Player streams to Quicktime compatible. However, the volume is too high.
I did try adjusting the Midi Sound controller. It did not have the effect when Quicktime starts-up.
Most of the time I record using Windows Media Player or Flip4Mac, I am not home to adjust the volume.
I will try adjusting the Midi control again. I wish Flip4Mac converted Media Player formated streams to Itunes. Wiretap pro works very well with itunes.

The "Play feedback when volume is changed" system preference is broken
I don't want to hear the feedback sound when I change the volume, but my Mac stubbornly insists that I should!
If I uncheck the "Play feedback when volume is changed" option in the Sound System Preferences pane, it works for a while. Some time later, when I change the volume using the keyboard keys, it ticks again. I have to check and uncheck the preference to get it to shut up... for a while.
Also, I noticed it always ticks when I change the volume while Quicktime is opening a movie. If I wait until it has opened it, it doesn't tick anymore.
This annoying problem started, as far as I can remember, from day zero.
I fixed the also annoying balance drifting problem with http://www.whamb.com/balanced. Is there anything like that that will kill the volume change feedback sound and make sure it stays dead permanently?
Thanks! This is happening to me too. The volume makes the noise, and when I open system preferences, "play feedback when..." is UNCHECKED which means it should not be making the noise. But I too have to check it and uncheck it in order for the sound to stop playing.
Why isn't it saving my setting? -
Quicktime RAID Intel Vista Failed
I've noticed a dozen posts regarding this issue. Intel says it's Quicktime causing the problem. How do we contact Quicktime Support to hear their side of the story. This is a major problem. Unsuspecting users can repeatedly lose data from these RAID failures caused by Quicktime.
There is a problem with RAID volumes and QuickTime and iTunes on Windows Vista - using Intel chipset. That isn't in contention.
As for what triggers it or not, hum... it's no fun if it affects you and your system. WHY is it that Quicktime and iTunes are an issue? is it related to choppy performance when playing back content from some (slower) boot drives?
Safari 3 was made available when it was still "alpha" which I think was too early and tarnished it some (I could see only if it was actually needed for iPhone, but that begs more questions).
+If you look in the Vista event viewer you will find event id 9 errors with a source of iastor, which is the intel raid driver. This is the source of the quicktime slowdown. If you leave quicktime running long enough it will fail both drives of a raid 1 array and Vista will crash.+

Intel RAID
QuickTime Vista RAID Havoc
As someone who runs Vista x64, and has all my media and data files on a RAID, I don't take things like this lightly. (I also will not be installing Quicktime or iTunes until x64 support looks better.)
UPDATE: So it looks like some of these issues could be related to using an Intel RAID array and that there could be fixes coming with the famous Vista Service Pack 1.

Intel release notes for its Intel Matrix Storage Manager version 7.0.0.1020 that acknowledge a known problem with using iTunes and Quicktime to play video.
The only thing I could find on Apple was the article
iTunes Video Playback Performance
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305392
which touches on QuckTime and DirectX and Direct3D.

Prevent Movies from starting at max volume?
Everytime I click on a movie or sound file that plays in quicktime, the volume bar is maxed out. Is there a way to prevent that from happening?
Short of editing the file properties there is no other way to reduce the volume. QuickTime Player uses the system volume as a "guide" but many files can be set to "overdrive" using the same steps as above.
Using the Finder "preview" (Get Info window) hold down the Shift-Command keys as you click on the sound icon of the controller. You'll see a new "line" and anything above it would be overdrive audio. -
Vista Home Premium 32-bit with Intel ICH9R + Raid 0 or 1 volume causes Quicktime to lock-up the PC (appears to lock the controller) when trying to launch MOV files that are larger than 12MB.
I've been able to reproduce this problem on a variety of PC's with the Intel P35 chipset mainboards with the ICH9R and Vista 32-bit. It's only for larger MOV files that play fine if no RAID volume exists or under XP.
Is there a fix for this? Is there some work-around or will Pro fix this issue?
The behavior is very easy to reproduce. It locks the SATA/ICHxR controller solid so the OS will hang as no disk I/O can occur. The player tries to launch with disk activity pegged (solid drive I/O) hanging the controller. The PC must be powered off or reset as no disk I/O can occur. Mouse works and anything cached will work, but anything that needs disk I/O (including a shutdown) will hang.I have a similar problem.
I have a RAID array. If I open any file with Quicktime, that is located on the RAID array, quicktime locks up and the drive becomes unavailable until I reboot.
If I copy the file to a drive not attached to the RAID array, it opens just fine with Quicktime.
Likewise, I can use Windows Media Player to open the file on the RAID array without any problem as well.
If you find a solution to this issue, please let me know.
Thanks,

Some apps use wrong output device
I have an iBook G4 with 10.3.9, builtin speakers and an external FireWire audio interface (a Presonus FireBox). When I select the FireBox as the default audio output device, most programs adhere (iTunes, the system alert sounds, the volume buttons, QuickTime, etc).
However, a lot of them continue to play audio from the builtin speakers - Flash, the Windows Media Player plugin for Safari (Flip2Mac or whatever it's called), and the "say" command line program.
Is there anyway to correct this? If I select "builtin speakers" and then turn the volume down and switch back to the FireBox, the misbehaving programs are now quiet... so the controls appear to be having SOME effect.
iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)This has now been fixed! I found a different thread on these forums about OS X dropping wireless connections - deleting these:
Go to Macintosh HD -> Library -> Preferences -> SystemConfiguration ->
Delete the following Plists:
com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
com.apple.nat.plist
come.apple.network.identification.plist
com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
Networkinterfaces.plist
Thread I used: thanks quann

No audio with .avi files.
This has just started to occur recently, probably with the latest update to QT. When I play a .avi file, the video shows up fine, but the audio is strangely absent. My computer volume isn't muted, nor is the volume on Quicktime itself. Any thoughts or explanations?
I have had this problem for a couple of years on all of my Macs across various OS and QT versions and as yet have not resolved it.
I have tried removing the XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha component from HDD/library/quicktime/components, as suggested by another user here but this has still not resolved it on my system.
There is a simple work around if you simply wish to watch these movies with sound.
Download VLC player (It's a free application) and here is the link. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
This will play your AVI files complete with sound without any problems.
I know it is not exactly a fix for the problem but id does offer you a solution to being able to watch your movies with sound. Hope this is of use to you.
Cheers

I am new to adobe acrobat, and I'm using version 8. I am trying to insert quicktime videos in a PDF File. I have figured out how to insert the video files and embed them in the PDF.
However, when I save the PDF, close it, and then re-open the it, the quicktime file does not appear. If I don't use a poster image, then it is just blank where the file is, but the file is there, and when I click on the empty space where I know that it has been embedded a dialog box opens about playing it just this once, or making it a trusted file, etc. Then it plays, and the volume and playblack controls, along with the background, are visible. (it is actually just an audio track in a quicktime file, so nothing is playing but the audio, and the background is solid black. I have set it up so that it stays there once activated.
What I want is for the volume and playblack controls and the black background to appear as soon as you open the PDF file, without having to click in the blank area where the file has been inserted. This is going to be part of a portfolio that I am submitting for a school program, so I need the person that is opening it to be able to clearly see where the file is, and see the playblack and volume controls so that he can playback the file.
So how do i get the embedded quicktime file to automatically show up in "activated" mode, with the playback and volume controls visible and ready to be used?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...If the video is only linked it would reduce the file size of the pdf and it would make it accessible for people opening on a device (like iPad) which does not allow flash which must be installed with Acrobat to view embedded media.
But I would recommend to send the people only a link to the PDF. I hate it, when my iPhone filled with useless stuff, if I would like to see it I could donwload, but as attachment make my space overfilled. -
I used FotoMagico 4.0 to make a slideshow. There are options for exporting, and I chose the one called Custom, which makes a Quicktime movie. For some reason the volume in the second half of the show starts to fade out, and by the end I can barely hear anything. If I export to their Standalone Player, which allows the slideshow to play on a Mac computer, everything works just fine. I'm at my wits end trying to figure out how to fix this. I want to be able to export the slideshow to Vimeo so that people on Macs and Pc's can both watch it, but I can't do it with the volume the way it is.
Go to System Preferences. Then under the General tab, there is a tick box saying "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps." Un tick that box. Once you start and quit Safari again, it will go back to your home page.

GeeThree volume 7 and Quicktime issues ughh, help!
I just bought some plug-ins. G3 volumes 4-5 and G3 volume7,9. So, I installed them. They all seem to be workiing except G3 7 titles. When I go to titles-GeeThree Slick 7, underneath it is suppossed to be numerous wild fx titles...wild fx-black, wild fx-doopy, etc. But mine just has one, wild fx 7. When I try to open it, it tells me that I cannot use Geethree slick 7 without enabling flash on my Quick time. My flash is already enabled. I just updated my quick time yesterday too. I do usually have that annoying problem on my quicktime, that automaticaly unchecks my image and miscellaneous file options under mime settings.
can anyone help? This is a project due tomorrow for my last college undergraduate class ever!Sorry that no one could post to you before your project was due. I don't have the answer; just an observation. Some GeeThree effects simply do not work in iMovie 6. They may work in preview mode, but when you apply them, you get a blank screen.
