No Volume in system tray, master volume disabled, no audio drivers - Dv6500 model

Hi,
OS- win xp sp2(downgrade from vista to xp )
Model: dv 6500
I need serious help with my audio drivers. To start off there is no volume icon in my system tray, so I tried to enable it  through control panel but before I try to enable it, the master volume is already greyed out so there is no way i can  enable it or get it on system tray nor can i change the volume, mixer setting  or just any setting in sound volume and devices dialog box.
Initially in teh properties tab of sound and devices the message was all drivers are working fine however still I could not listen any voice from any application. I tried to reintall the old audio driver(sp34200) and new one's like sp33310 still there is no audio..
tried to start audio application in services but still no result, did a virus check  but it shown no virus attack. I have given up , plz help me out . I am exhausted i guess I ahve tried each and everything available on net.  plz plz help someone.

I can't help, other than to say this happened to me today with the same hardware, only with GarageBand.
I recorded bass tracks this morning -- no problem. This afternoon, though, every time I plugged in the Tascam GarageBand went silent, even though the system input shows sound coming in.

  • Why does using a digital connection from headphones out on a Mac into a stereo disable the master volume control on the Mac?

When you use an analog connector, it does not disable the master volume on the Mac. It's only when you use a digital connector, and it's ALL digital connectors. It still allows you to use the iTunes volume control but, when you stream anything else on the web on your computer, you have to use the stereo's volume control because the master volume control on the Mac has been disabled. Does anyone know why?

I had the same problem, instead of logging in the router with the iMac (impossible) I did it with my iPad, I guess you can do the same with an iPhone.
-Disconnect the iPad from your wifi network and connect it to the TP-Link repeater.
-Open the web browser (I use chrome) be sure you don't have any other open tab, just the one to access tptlinkextender.net
-The configuring page opens, from there follow the steps of detecting your network and adding the password.
*If your MAC address is hidden it'll appear without name, in that case you have to configure it manually (write the name on the space for that)
Now go, be happy and do good.

  • System tray volume control

    Hey all -
I'm looking for a volume control system tray applet that is controlled by a slider rather than mouse wheel. This is mostly because I want to use this on my laptop, which I normally control via touch pad rather than a 'full' mouse. This takes both volwheel (which is a great app, just not suited for me here...) and gvtray (also a great app, but hideously ugly and ill suited for this.)
    Any help?

i dont know what version of gvtray you were using, but this one has a slider.  i've hardcoded the icons, but you can easily change that.  default is my gnome volume icons.

let me know if you need anything, i know longer use this script so it may take me a while to figure out what's wrong.  also i didnt write it, just edited for my needs.
edit: i've just looked at it again. it only uses one icon, so there is effectively no status indicator.  i think it was gbatt that i made use multiple icons.  sorry.

  • Volume missing in system tray, mute buttons not working

hi, i just reformatted and installed the latest drivers for my Creative Soundblaster Digital 5. (dell) card, and at first everything was fine..
Now they Icon for sound is missing from the system tray.. My volume dial and mute button no longer work. and yes i have gone in and selected to have it appear in the tray.. that does nothing.
Also, all other sounds are working except for sounds from web browsers.. and I have all the necessary pluggins installed..
thanks creative... great products...Message Edited by maluut on 0-0-2006 05:07 PM

I have a similar problem with my elite pro card and would also like an answer.
I installed the new drivers and now my volume knob does not work nor can I adjust volume with the remote control. The mute button does work though.
Also why such an annoyance as to need the original disc in order to make the control panel work in the system tray? shouldn't driver updates be complete?
Also...what's up with the max volume white noise during the driver install which made my ears ring and nearly blew out my speaker system?

  • Gvolicon - a lightweight volume icon in your system tray

    Hello,
Some days ago whilst on vacation, I whipped up this lightweight and very simple volume icon. As some of you might have seen in my previous topic, this project is based on Fogobogo's gtk-vol and as such most of the features are the same:
Easily change volume levels by scrolling on the icon
Easily mute and restore the volume by clicking on the icon
    No right-click menu
    Also see Gvolicon's help output:
-v, --version Display version and exit
    -d, --device Device to use
    -m, --mixer Mixer to use
-u, --update-interval Set update interval in seconds
-s, --volume-step Set volume step to increase or decrease the volume with
    -i, --symbolic-icons Use symbolic icons
You can get Gvolicon in the AUR or you can get the code directly from GitHub.

Did you somehow uncheck the "Load volume Icon At Startup" in controls?Having this checked the Creative Volume Panel will always startup in the system tray. Or, Did you try executing the program in the desktop program group "Creative>Sound Blaster X-Fi>Creative Volume Panel" If all these things don't work, try to do a repair in the "Control Panel>Programs and Features>Sound Blaster X-Fi"

  • No sound in windows XP-- not even volume icon in system tray bar

    Hi,
I have a lenovo G530 series laptop. I had Vista originally. I formatted my laptop and changed to XP.
But now I am facing certain audio problems after installing windows xp.
I tried installing the conexant audio drivers and even the high definition drivers 4-5 times but still there is no sound. I made a check with the device manager and everything but still there is no icon in tray bar.
whenever i tried installing the software I got the following error : \
Driver Installation Failed : Could not find the MEDIA device for the driver..
I am really fed up by this problem..
Pls can anybody help me with this issue.. Thank you in advance..
    thanks
    Ankit

    Hi
You need to install firstly the audio patches for windows xp
    AUDIO Patch 1: KB835221
    AUDIO Patch 2: KB888111
These are Microsoft patches and are essential for the sound card.
After the hotfixes were installed, install the sound driver again
    Cheers

  • Bypass master volume for constant white noise play (KDE)

Is there a way to play sound while ignoring the master volume control, even bypassing mute?
I have tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and I get relief of these symptoms by playing white noise 24/7, I currently am using http://playnoise.com/ but there are many different sources of white noise, it could even be an mp3. I like it to be playing at the same volume, all the time, no exceptions. But, when I turn the volume up and down via my media keys or system tray, for a song playing in Amarok or a video playing in YouTube the white noise is also turned up and down, this is not needed or desired.
What I'm trying to do goes against the definition of what a master volume is, but I figure it's worth a shot to ask.
The next option would be to have volume adjusters for applications which I have seen done before. 90% of the time I'm adjusting web browser volume.
(I have medium-ish experience with Arch)
    Thanks

tricky, but you could achieve that with alsa's softvol plugin.
first you need to have alsa-plugins installed
then add something like this in your ~/.asoundrc
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "softvol"
    ctl.mixer0 {
    type hw
    card 0
    pcm.softvol {
    type softvol
    slave.pcm "hw:0,0"
    control {
    name "Master2"
    card 0
this should create software volume control called 'Master2' and make applications use it as default (you need to restart all audio applications and sound servers until it takes effect.)
now you should be able to play white noise from mp3 and set the 'real' master channel for it's output, while all other applications are controllable via Master2. Ideally you should set your card's real master volume to 0db
only issue with this that your white noise will be played full blast unless the application from where you're playing it from has its own software volume control. You can solve this by adding another softvol device in your .alsarc (simply copy the pcm.softvol part and change the control name from Master2 to something else) and use it as output and volume control for the noise.

  • ALSA - Master volume no longer having an effect on headphone volume

I use ALSA and have both my 'front' (speakers) and 'headphone' audio volume set to max. Then I control the two by adjusting the master volume.
Since my last system update this worked fine however now when I change the master volume it only affects the sound coming from my speakers and my headphones are constantly at max unless I specifically change the headphone volume in 'alsamixer'. This is inconvenient since I have the master volume controlled by hotkeys.
I know I can work around this and hotkey my controls to change both the master and headphone volumes but this leaves room for things getting out of sync. Is there a way to revert back to the old method?

    Hi-
"Essentially" a clone and a clone are not the same. There are alot of things that don't get copied when you simply drag folders. Pathways to aliases are one of them.
Use SuperDuper! (the best IMHO) or Carbon Copy Cloner to get real bootable clones of your system and files.

  • Macbook Pro master volume changed by iTunes

Running Lion but this problem has existed under prior OS versions. I have had a symptom where the master volume level changes on its own. For example, It set it to full volume then sometime later notice that it is set to about 40%.
Today I finally duplicated the problem using iTunes 10. Volume set to full, I select a song and delete it, and the master volumen is reset to ~40%. This happens every time! I have had it happen outside of iTunes but cannot isolate a pattern like I have with iTunes.
    Help appreciated!

Went to the Genius Bar, The tech decised it was a bad logic board. I got a new computer to replace a week old one. After going through setting it up again, I have the same issue. System Profiler sees that an iPhone is connected, but not iTunes. I can not sync to the new MBP. At the moment, I am syncing to my old MBP, just so I have the iPhone set up as I had it.
BTW, if you go through the "iTunes does not see iPhone" suggestions and enter DFU (restore mode) your iPhone gets bricked. But it is recoverable by using a different computer. I am currently trying a NEW install of the OS on the i7, but I suspect a hardware/driver interaction problem. I have no hopes until 10.6.4 arrives in a month or so.

  • What is master volume purpose?

I am having difficult time distinguish between "regular sound indicator" and "master volume?
    1.What is Master Volume?
2.What does it affect? (Alarm clock volume?)
3.Does it only affect apps or the maximum volume of the device in general?
(for example if I set it to half..Regales if I have set the ringtone volume to Max... It will only play half the power due to the master volume being set to half?)

Master volume is the general volume level that is adjusted when you use the volume buttons on the side. It controls the speaker volume for music, videos and calls.
Other types of volumes can be set independently in the settings, for things like notifications, alarms and ringtones.

  • How Do Control My Master Volume?

How do control my master volume?, i can only control it on my keyboard but not on the top right corner. its supposed to be black but its grey and no sound.

System Preferences --> Sound --> Select a device for sound output to "Internal speakers" or "line out"
You may select it Digital out.

  • Z series Master volume problem

Hi , I have a soundblaster zxr and since I bought it I have lots of problems in adjusting the master volume. I use Spdif port for my home theater system. When i choose dts or dolby it is impossible to change the master voulme form the SB control panel nor system master volume and I have to change it manually from home theater, this issue was not happening when I was using onboard sound system. The second problem is that when I choose no encoding I have to choose spdif option in system sound menu which only gives me 48 khz option which is not the quality I expect but the master volume is controllable. If I choose Speaker option from the system sound menu, I can select 96Khz which is better quality but I can not control the master volume, the master volume does nothing. I have tried to email creative but they do not feel responsible to even answer me, so please help me.

Hello, 1) if you use digital output the volume can only be changed at the decoder 2) everything digital coming from the sound card's encoders is 48Khz 3) if you use the analog connection you get 96Khz Hope this helps

  • How does KMDF driver control the master volume of Windows?

    Dear Sirs:
I am developing a KMDF codec driver.
One of features is that the user can press buttons which are attached on a headset to manipulate the render volume.
Is there any windows API available to allow me to control the master volume of Windows under KMDF developmnet?
    Thanks a lot.
    Sincerely,
    Zale Yu

    Hi Doron,
Thank you for pointing out the direction. Here please allow me to ask two questions, and also please review a possible solution.
    Question:
    - may I ask for more details on how to do this underlying bus driver? i.e. could you kindly list a few steps on how to do this?
    - Any related samples available in MSDN WDF I can look at to get th idea/even reuse the code?
    Possibl solution:
    - how about claiming the codec device as a HID devic as well, and make a minidriver to pass through IRPs to filter driver which captures/interprets the button-press interrupt and then send HID report to change system volume? is this feasible?
any conflict: Can Kernal add th driver (now Codec function Driver, Mini driver and a HID filter driver all together) stack together -- so the right driver can process the packet interested?
    Thanks again.

  • [SOLVED]Alsamixer - the "mute" option for the Master volume is missing

    Hej!
After the recent update the Mute option is missing for the Master volume but I can mute sound for PCM.

Okay, can you provide documentation/reference to back that up? Should you mean, there is no difference in how you system behaves, yes, that is very likely, since the second line is correct, so the cmi would be at index 0 either way.
Andy_Crowd wrote:Mute shows only when I am installing pulseaudio.
In alsamixer? PA runs on top of alsa, so the controls for alsamixer should stay the same. Do you mean another mixer maybe?
You still did not provide the relevant part of pacmans log and amixer output for both cards. Are you certain you used the cmi as default the whole time? Is the snd-hda-intel a hdmi sound card?
