No volume on Videos when phone in Silent mode.

When my iPhone is in silent mode and I play a video there's no volume (even though the volume is turned up on the video) the only way to get volume is to flick the switch and put the phone on loud. Then have to come out of the video and go back in to hear volume   sure it didn't used to be like this..

I have experienced a similar problem, I had sound for about 30 s, while playing movies, then the screen froze for 2s and then it continued playing, but without sound.
I restored my Ipod, and then updated it, and then everything worked fine.
It was very strange, I think I might disconnect my Ipod too soon while updating him the first time
Hope this has been helpful

We want you to love your software update pitbullmommy71! When did you update your phone? Have you tried going into phone settings and set up your notifications as you would like them? It can take a few days for your phone to normalize after the update, but this may be a bit much. Some apps may no longer be compatible with the new software so you can try running phone in Safe Mode or do a Hard Reset to see if this improves your phone. I've seen where some have completed a Hard Reset after the update and downloaded all same apps, and phone works flawlessly now. However, if you'd like to try Safe Mode first, (which is where all 3rd party apps are disabled), you can certainly try this for 24 hours to see if improves.

  • IPhone takes a moment to vibrate when turned on silent mode

When I click the little switch on the left side of the iPhone it doesn't vibrate right away it takes a few seconds, my moms iPhone and friends iPhone both do it instantly. I've tried closing all my apps but it still does it, any way to fix this?

I went into settings and changed the vibrate setting to only vibrate in silent mode, and when i put it in silent mode it doesn't vibrate. The only time it will vibrate in silent mode is if i have it set to vibrate all the time which i don't want. Any help would be appreciated it. I just got my phone last week so i'm still fairly new at it.
Also on a side note does anyone notice the in call volume being slightly lower, or is it just me. My old phone when I had my in call volume maxed out i could hold the phone away from my ear and hear them clear as day. With this phone i have to have the phone pressed against my ear to hear clearly. I didn't  know if that was a 2.2 issue or what because all my other speakers work great and are very loud I had to actually turn down my media speaker. Thanks again God Bless.
I may can help you with this but it would be easier if I knew what alert you are wanting to vibrate because as reported in other post that there is a number of settings for the device to alert you.
    1. Check Setting/Sound/Vibrate and change setting to Vibrate "Only in Silent Mode"
    2. Under Messaging click Account Name/Left Menu Key/Email Setting/Notifications/Check Vibrate...This option is listed under all accounts listed under Messaging ececpt SMS.
    3. For Gmail has to goto to Gmail/Left Menu Key/More/Settings/Vibrate/Only When Silent
If this doesnt resolve issue, you may want to look into Audio Manager or WidgetLocker, I use both of these and I never have to worry about the vibrate option because Audio Manager places all volume options in one place and WidgetLocker allows you to toggle from Ring-Silent-Vibrate just by swiping a slider on lock screen.   Hope this helps you.

  • Problems with multiple e-mail accounts on Droid 2 & also can't put phone into Silent mode

I just received my Droid 2 and having a problems with having multiple e-mail accounts.
My original droid worked fine with all of this.
I have 2 different personal e-mail accounts setup.
When I click e-mail, it just defaults to the default e-mail address and I have no way of switching accounts. I have to change the default e-mail account in order to view the other account.
Along with having a shortcut on the home page to each e-mail account, it always just goes to the default one and no way of adding a shortcut to both.
When I did this on the original droid, i could choose which e-mail account I wanted a shortcut for and could obviously have both on the home screen.
I also have found no way to NAME the accounts, ex. Comcast & Work.
That way I could distinguish the difference between the 2 on my home screen even if I could get a shortcut to both.
not sure how this could be overlooked but I sure dont think there is a way to make this happen.
Also, what is with 2.2 System and not allowing you to put it in silent mode?
I updated my original Droid to 2.2 and could no longer make it silent with the volume button on side or going into the sound settings and changing it to silent, it would always stay on vibrate.
And now it does the same thing with Droid 2. I cant make it silent at all.
    Any ideas on either issue

ok I got the silent problem fixed.
The update changed vibrate to be always, even when on Silent mode.
The e-mail problem however is stll an issue and I realy hope they release an update to fix this.
I'm sure I'm not the only one with 2 e-mail accounts on their droid.
I never had an original Droid, so I can;t compare to what was on that.  For me, I am using the "Messaging" app - it seems to be set up for multiple e-mail accounts better than the email app.  Messaging is the one recommended by the manufacturer - give that a try.

  • Messaging, mail and phone sounds in headphones with phone in silent mode

    hi,
I just upgraded to the 3gs from the original iphone and I seem to be confused as to whether I should be getting all the different sound alerts through my headphones when my phone is in silent mode. I thought the original did that. can someone tell me if it's possible to get the sound alerts through the headphones if they're attached and the phone is in silent mode?
    thanks,

both the new iphone and the old one both do the same way
as long as you have the headphones plugged in you will hear it in the headphones
there is no way to "mute" it

  • Is the only option for a good night's sleep to manually put the phone in silent mode?

On Google Voice I have do not disturb hours automatically, so calls at 3am won't ring my phone.
However, I also have people who call my iPhone directly.
I live in Hawaii and I don't need calls coming in at 3am my time, 9am EST.  I can manually put it into silent mode, but last night I forgot, and sure enough the phone blasted away while I was sleeping.
Why can't I say during certain hours don't ring the phone?  This is a smart phone right?

After researching it more today I found at that Apple is falling behind.
With the Android not only can my phone be silenced at 3am automatically, but it will also automatically adjust the ringing and vibration based on my location or at specific times.  For example, if I am in school it knows I am in school and the ringer is shut off automatically, so I don’t get that embarrassing call during a lecture.  Once I leave school I don’t miss calls because the ringer automatically comes back on, I don’t have to remember to change it manually.
Plus, you can specify certain callers to get through at anytime, for example, my family can still ring my phone at 3am, but no one else.  Daycare can always get through too, even if you are in a meeting you want to know if your child had an emergency.
It can even remind you to charge your battery if it is below a certain percentage and it knows you are now located at home where you can charge it.
I am feeling left out of the technology curve now with the iPhone clunky on / off hardware switch that I have to remember to change manually.

  • 4s putting the phone in silent mode using the silent button then, the phone intermittently vibrates by itself and the silent icon flickers..

Is this a bug? or someone else experiencing this.  I had a lot of problems since I updated to 8.1.1.. and I thought it will make my phone fast. It freezes most of the time especially switching from one app to another app and i have to manually reboot my phone every time this happens..

perform basic troubleshooting: Restart (turn off), Reset all settings, Repeat, Restore.

  • Time Capsule Volume Not Mounted when waking from Sleep Mode

    Hello all
Time Capsule 500GB, unibody MBP, 802.11n WPA2 encryption
Question: I setup Time Machine to use the disk on Time Capsule. I entered the password then locked the Time Machine preferences. Time Machine backs up to Time Capsule successfully.
I've started to noticed in particular when using Sleep mode often when the machine wakes up (appears to be random) it loses connection to the disk on Time Capsule despite it being locked in preferences. So I would have to unlock preferences, then click on Change Disk, click on TC's disk and enter the password and it connects successfully.
My question is...what is causing Time Machine to unable to mount TC's disk? I have a full strength wireless signal once the laptop wakes up from sleep. I can browse the Internet, use the Airport Utility, etc. however randomly Time Machine can't find TC's disk.

After upgrading to 7.4.1 firmware it fixed my problem

  • When phone is on silent mode, my vibrate feature is not working....any suggestions?

When I put my phone on silent mode, the vibrate feature is not longer working....any suggestions?

If it's a software issue and your settings are correct then the next step would be to restore your phone to new. Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings If it's the switch itself then try moving it back and forth several times. Perhaps there's a bit of pocket lint or dirt preventing a good contact. If that doesn't work then you'll have to take the phone into an authorized Apple repair centre or Apple store and have it checked out.

  • How can I ensure an app will play audio even when phone is in silent mode

Am looking at deploying a third party app, but I want to ensure that the app's built in notification system will notify on the user's iphone, even if the user has set the phone to silent mode.
In the Android world <gasp!> there is an app called CritiCall. In the Apple world, I have found no such equivalent. And honestly I want a control that supports the app's usage of device functions, not individual device functions.
MEM solutions don't seem to fill this bill either. Any suggestions out there?

Ask the app's developer or try it for yourself before deploying it.

  • Is there a way to prevent Itunes' volume from lowering when I receive texts and email?

Whenever I have my iphone connected to a speaker, the volume lowers when I receive a text or email. This can be very frustrating and I'm wondering if there is a setting to prevent this from happening. Can anyone help?

Put your phone in silent mode, or enable do not disturb.

  • 5310 loud speaker is not silent in "silent mode"

    Hi,
I just got a 5310 (FW 5.91) and love it. One annoying querk I would like to get resolved.
When I have the phone in silent mode (and have set all sounds to "off" in the silent profile), the loud speaker still plays music when the "play" button for the music player accidentally gets pressed. I can lower the volume to the lowest level, but I cannot silence the loud speaker.
When in silent mode, it seems that you should be able to silence the loud speaker.
    Thanks for any help.
    Eric

Silent profile is designed only to silence call functions, it dates back to the days when phones were only phones.
Perhaps it is something to be reviewed now that so many models have multimedia buttons on the phone itself. I'm not familiar with that model, does the keypad lock perhaps deactivate the music buttons too?

  • Silent mode doesn't work anymore on 5.1.1

With 5.1.1 any app that used setRingerMode(silent) no longer works. So putting the phone in silent mode is now broken for lots of the 3rd party apps. The D5803, D6653, D6503 go into vibrate mode, but not into silence mode. Come on Sony, get this fixed asap! P.S. The moderator here may think this is referring Sony's own UI. It's not! The issue affects any 3rd party app that tries to mute the phone on a schedule. In 5.0 this results in priority mode, while in 5.1.1 it does nothing at all. This is a bug in Sony's firmware as other 5.1.1 devices work as expected.

Hello folks. A couple days ago I was happy to see a new firmware update for my almost a year old Sony Xperia Z3.Updated to Lollipop 5.1.1, been happy with it SO FAR..... untill I stared to realize an annoying behavior with the silent mode settings.
Before the update, I used to have my phone set up in such a way that it went to PRIORITY mode notifications from Midnight to 7am. Everything worked perfectly fine. Here is the problem descirption:What happens now - Every time the clock hits Midnight, the phone goes into SILENT MODE, and not Priority mode, although my setting clearly indicate it to allow exceptions in silent mode from midnight to 7am. That's fine... whatever, I just turn on the "allow exception" and "allow alarm" on from the drop down menu and it goes into priority again. BUT, there is a second problem. Once in a few times, when I press the volume up OR down buttons, the tasking changes from my selected option (midnight to 7am) to either INDEFINIE or the second setting (where you can select for how long you want it to be on silent). This is veeery odd. For example, I set the tasking as follows:Priority mode (silent mode allowing exceptios and alarms), selecting the third option, midnight to 7am. I shut the phone.I wake up the phone, press the volume up button, and it shows that my tasking is now INDEFINITE. Sometimes it is set on the second option... What can cause this weird behaviour?? Or is it just me?

  • IPhone not playing alert tone after switching off silent mode

Hi I have been having an issue ever since getting my iPhone 6 plus where when I take the phone off silent mode the alert tone does not play when I receive a SMS, iMessage etc. The phone vibrates but does not sound the alert tone, all other sounds work like lock sound, keyboard clicks and ring tone.
I have updated to the latest IOS 8.1.3 but the issue still seems to be happening.
I just had a chance now to troubleshoot and noticed that this has something to do with the volume control that you pull up from the bottom of the screen.
with the volume set to the minimum setting the alert tone does not play but it does play with the volume set mid-way or maximum. Depending on the volume setting depends how loud the alert tone plays.
I can reproduce the issue with these steps:
turn volume to minimum using the pull up menu at the bottom of the screen
set phone to silent using the switch on the left side of the iPhone
    lock the screen
take the phone off silent mode
receive an SMS and the alert will not play.
has anyone else come across this issue? i never had this problem with my iPhone 5 and i always had the volume set to a minimum.

    Hi Brenden_l,
It sounds like you are turning down the volume for alerts with the Control Center volume control, which is like turning them down with the side buttons.
    Control Center - iPhone
Control Center gives you instant access to the camera, calculator, AirPlay, and other handy features. You can also adjust the brightness, lock the screen in portrait orientation, turn wireless services on or off, and turn on AirDrop. See AirDrop.
Open Control Center.  Swipe up from the bottom edge of any screen (even the Lock screen).
You may want to change the Sound Setting to not have ringer and alert volume change with buttons.
    Volume controls - iPhone
Lock the ringer and alert volumes.  Go to Settings > Sounds and turn off “Change with Buttons.”
    Take care,
    Nubz
