No way to get a free recovery disc?

So I spend $740 to buy this Toshiba Laptop and now I am unable to reinstall windows after having corrupt files and because Toshiba decided to be cheap and not provide recovery discs. What genius decided to add important recovery files on the hard drive?
Does calling their customer support get you free recovery discs? I am not going to pay $25 dollars for "shipping". That is the most idiotic thing I have heard. Shipping costs 1 or 2 dollars, not $25. University programs give students Win 7 copies for like $20.
Very disappointed in Toshiba. Should have went with ASUS.

It gets better, it looks like even if you pay the 25 dollars you will get a series of dvds that will include all the original crapware that ships with the laptop.
Toshiba (and looks like most other laptop manufactures) will tell you that it was your fault for not making backup disk when you had the chance right after you got your laptop.
Its a real shame and most likely some type of scam pc manufactures have. They could have easily shipped a copy of Windows OS that would have cost them probably no more than 10 cents. Instead, they force you to create a restore backup that not only takes a long time, it also takes around 5 dvds. At the end it ends up costing you a lot more money to have those backups AND this backups include the original crapware again.

if...... you accidentally dismissed the popup the first time you launched the App Store on your new device, you can also view all of them in one place in the App Store by following these steps:
Launch the App Store app from the Home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
From the Featured tab, scroll down and tap on the New to the App Store? tile under Collections.
Once again, scroll down towards the bottom and tap on the tile for Apps made by Apple.
Here you can see a list of all the apps Apple makes. Tap any one of them to view more information on them or tap on the price to download them.

  • T42 HD replaced, can't get restore and recovery disc to work properly

    Hello Support Team!
I purchased a ThinkPad from a company going out of business and was happy with it until the hard drive started to freak out.  I replaced the hard drive with a new Western Digital 250 GB and ordered the recovery discs from the place in Atlanta.  The discs arrived and I thought I was ready for my new computer.  I'm following all the directions in the install, changing the startup to boot from the CD.  I get the Recovery Welcome Screen and try to click on Restore Factory Settings.  At this point, I get a screen that says "In order to proceed, your system must be rebooted".  I haven't gotten past this point now matter what I try.
I like this little machine, but I'm afraid I can no longer breathe new life into it????
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    OK, that's a good start.
Have you wiped the drive before attempting to install the OS? If not, now would be a good time to do it.
Download the PC Doctor for DOS bootable CD, burn a disk and boot from it.
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/1ety48ww.exe
Wipe the drive clean (under utilities), run diagnostics on the rest of the system.
If everything comes back clean, re-try installing the OS.
Good luck and keep us posted.

  • HT6114 Is there a way to get a free OS upgrade to snow leopard?

I am currently running OS 10.5.8 and I desparately need to upgrade to snow leopard so I can ultimately upgrade to mavericks. I am a student at Salisbury University and my wife is a student at the University of Maryland, we both have iphone 5's and I also have an ipad 2. So in order to have our desktop communicate with our other devices we need to update the OS. With both of us being in school $$ is not in tremendous supply, I know apple offered a free download for snow leopard around 2012. It would be great if there is any way we can get the SL upgrade for free.

Firstly it may pay to see if your Mac meets the requirements for Mavericks. Is your Macbook the Aluminium model? Check here

Also a lot of your old Appications may not work under avericks. Check here for compatability.

  • Any way to get a free Master Socket fitted for OAP...

My OAP mother has broadband in her home but gets low sync speeds and regular emails from BT about improving the speed.
I believe that the cause might be that she seems to have no single master socket, but more than 1 with the capacitor in. I suspect she has a junction box in the loft where the cable enters and a star layout, plus some DIY extension work too.
She is on a limited budget and I wondered if there is any way for BT to upgrade her to a modern master socket - ideally free or very low cost. I am happy to sort her extension wiring myself?

It is unlikely that Openreach will change it for free as they do not change things if they are working however the star wiring willpossibly cause some problems the forum mods may be able to arrange something for you

  • Is there another way to get a free iCloud account with an iTunes account

We are an educational institution and we have a 1-to-1 program with our 7th and 8th graders. This was started last year but recently we started to run into issues where the devices (that are recycled at the end of the year to go to the incomming 7th graders) will not allow us to create iTunes and iCloud accounts. I've discovered that I can create an iTunes account for free via appleid.apple.com but it does not create an iCloud account.
This is far from ideal for us as we need all of our students to have iCloud accounts as well and we do not have the money to keep buying new devices just so that we can have iCloud accounts for each student.
Does anyone know of a way to create free iCloud accounts? There must be a way and there must be other school districts with this problem that have solved this issue. This could taint our entire 1-to-1 program if not resolved. iCloud backups are how we handle replacements when the students break the device accidentally.
    Thanks in advance.

I don't know if it's possible, but you might want to ask this question over in the iPad in Business and Education forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/ipad/ipad_in_business_and_education?view =discussions.  They may know the answer.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 1444ee Recovery Disc Issue

    Hi,
I created three recovery discs soon after I purchased my laptop..The Recovery Disc #1 was inside the optical disc tray while I was resolving some issues on a Linux distro called Backtrack5..Playing around with linux' bootloader and when I tried booting from the Optical drive (i-e Recovery Disc labelled #1) the PC did not recognise it at all..Somehow I managed to run the existing installation of Windows7 (the original one that came with my laptop) and inside Computer it shows that my Optical drive has no filesystem and occupies 0 bytes..But in "Create and format partitions" the optical drive shows to have a RAW filesystem..
The question is: Is there any way to get back the Recovery Disc #1?? If not,any other measure that I could take now so that in the future I can reinstall my factory shipped OS..
    Thanks

You can order recovery media here, or call HP on the phone to order 1-800-474-6836

  • How can I get system recovery discs (mailed and/or burned from laptop)?

I have a family member who is in another state and has a Toshiba C855D-S5100. It is just under 1yr old and is having some issues booting up. She got it from Best Buy and took it to them yesterday. They are currently running a full diagnostic scan and will let us know what the problem is sometime today (virus, bad drive, bad memory, etc.).
In the meantime, it made me think that we may want to create some recovery discs (if we can). I did this with an older Gateway. It required 4 DVDs. Can this be done with this model? If so, how as it has Windows 8 and I am not real familiar with this operating system just yet.
If the test comes back and says the hard drive is the issue, the unit will be sent to Toshiba for repair (since there is 2 weeks left on warranty). In addition to trying to create some recovery discs, can we maybe somehow order the actual recovery discs from Toshiba directly (& keep for future purposes if the hard drive fails and gets replaced)? If so, how and where do we go to get these Toshiba recovery discs sent to us?

The full Specifications for that machine are HERE.
See the User's Guide starting on page 55 for instructions on "Creating Recovery Media" yourself.
You can order Recovery Media from HERE. (Scroll down).

  • (Resolved) Windows 8 - Recovery Discs Do Not Work With New Hard Drive

    Update:
I decided to buy drive cloaning software.  I cloned my drive, that resolved the problem of installing the OS on the new drive.  Too bad neither HP's Restore disc's or this support fourm could help with this issue.
    Origional Post:
    Product Name:  HP Pavilion G4-2235DX
    Product Number:  C3Q50UAR#ABA
    BIOS:  Insyde F.26, 2/21/2013
    Processor: AMD A6-4400M APU w/ Radeon HD Graphics, 2700 Mhz, 2 Core(s)
    BIOS Mode:  UEFI
    SMBIOS Version:  2.7
    RAM:  12GB
    Operating System:  Windows 8 - 64bit (6.2.9200 Build 9200)
Situation:  I purchased this computer new as a refurbished model from a retail store.  I created system restore discs after initial setup using the HP Recovery Media Creation Utility.  This system has a 500 GB hard drive.  I purchased a Western Digital 1 TB hard drive to upgrade the drive in this notebook.  After swaping out the drives and trying to load the recovery onto the new 1TB hard drive in the same computer, an HP dialogue so states "This PC is not supported by the System Recovery Discs. You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these discs."  It gives a code (doesn't call it an error code) 0110-C3150UQ43#ABA underneath and only option is okay, the system reboots and follows the same pattern again and again.
I have upgraded drives in the past on Vista and 7 the same way using self created HP recovery discs with no issue, I do know what i'm doing.    I've seen discussion mentioning BIOS issues and other such problems.  I did try updating the BIOS to the one on the HP Support page (2013-03-01 , Version:F.26, 7.76M) and the recovery discs still will not work.  I found the CyberLink Recovery Discs Utility thread, however this solution/software has no support for Windows 8.  I have tried to run the utility and it fails, tried with compatiabity and it failed.  Why is this happening and what can be done to resolve this problem?
I tried using chat support but it won't let me get through to anyone, claiming my warranty is expired.  I just bought this computer 3 days ago and was assured a 90 day warranty.
    Please help, Thanks.

    Information on the warranty:
Refurbished computers are often erroneously marked as out of warranty, but it is simple to fix, and a phone representative could have corrected that for you. All computers' warranty start dates begin on the day they leave the factory. HP knows that there will be a period where the computer will sit on a shelf (for days or months) at the retailer. With refurbished computers, their 90-day warranties begin on the day they are refurbished. HP has no way of knowing what date the customer will buy the computer so the warranty start date stays the same until the customer registers the computer providing the date of purchase for the warranty system to be updated. If the registration process fails for some reason (rare, but it happens), phone technical support has a process they can initiate to have the warranty corrected. They only need a copy of the receipt showing the date of purchase.
I hope this information helps! Please let me know if you have any questions and thanks again for you post!

  • Create Recovery Disc For Windows 7

    Hi,
I have HP Pavillion p6310y desktop with Windows 7 (not sure 32 or 64 or whatever)
My computer got virus infection. These virus are located in very low level of hard drive. Also there are other virus. Virus supporters want to remove these virus, but they are afraid my computer may be unoperable due to virus location level. They ask me to get rescue or recovery disc for the computer
Now I searched to create rescue disc via link http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01867124&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc... , but I couldn't find "recovery manager". I do see recovery via control panel, but couldn't find a way to bring a image like link shown.
Anyone can help me to create the recovery or rescue disc for the hp?
    Thanks.

OK... time to kill two stones with one bird...
    Q: How I know my computer is window 7 32-bit or 64-bit?
A: I previously posted this "Windows 7 64b A1NAv6PrA1 + Supp 7 Recovery Kit" which states 64bit. Additionally, here is a link to your computer's specs... click on the "+" under "Software" at the bottom of the page.
Q: If virus is located in lower level of hard drive or computer, then try to remove them, it is likely to damage the computer and hard drive?
A: A virus, almost any virus is incapable of causing physical damage to your computer. The only damage they cause is to your data, installed programs, OS, and maybe your wallet. All it takes to remove most viruses is to format the drive.

hello... m using dv6-6159tx recently i loss the one recovery disc number 3rd disc. now how i will get the 3rd recovery disc. I cant purchase the new one. Kindly solve my problem

Hello LossrecoverCD. I understand that you've misplaced one of your recovery discs and need to get or make some more. Is this correct?
If these discs came with your notebook and were not created by you you're able to make another copy for yourself. Just follow these instructions. However, you can only create one set of recovery discs. So if you lost one that you created you'll have to speak with HP to get more.

  • IPhone 3GS froze during iOS 5.1.1 update - how do I get out of recovery mode without having to restore?

So I tried to update my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1.1, like iTunes told me to do, and it froze part way through the installation for a couple of hours.  I tried to "reset" the iPhone by pressing both the home and power buttons simultaneously, but now iTunes tells me my iPhone is in recovery mode.  From my limited knowledge, it seems I need to restore my iPhone, but I don't want to lose anything, like my SMS history.
Is there a way to get out of recovery mode without having to restore?
    Thanks!

I came across this post as my iPhone 3Gs had gone into recovery mode on its own accord.   I had hundreds of photos unsaved and was gutted when I saw this post, I felt even worse as it was not the information (gdgmacguy) I wanted to read.
Unfortunately, the above post is simply wrong! A system cannot destroy information in a blink of an eye.   If it were that easy, the forensic teams across the world would have a hard time.  A criminal could simply force a phone into recovery to remove all the data.  Please!
I managed not only to take the phone out of recovery mode but also, salvaged all the data held on it.
To be fair, I am a little annoyed at Apple for not offering a salvage option on the device for such a situation.  And it may be that they will not like me sharing this information, in which case I believe this view to be morally wrong because photos are so important.  We all make mistakes, in terms of forgetting to backup from time to time.
What I used was the Redsn0w software, running as an administrator in XP compatibility mode.  In the ‘Extras’ section it as a Recovery Fix option.  It simply runs some software that takes the device out of recovery mode.  I had to run it twice for some reason but the second time (out of desperation) worked a treat.  The phone is now exactly as it was before it went into recovery mode.  More to the point, it allowed me to backup all the photos and videos that I had failed to do before hand.  And let’s face it, photos and videos are usually the most valuable stuff we keep on our phones.
I hope this help anyone in the same situation. I really hope someone from apple reads it and is able to convince the bosses that a recovery option is very important.  And to take note that YES it is possible to recover data on a phone stuck in recovery mode.  And more than likely it would be easier for apple, compared to other non-apple professionals.
    Good luck.
