No way to mark sms messages as 'unread'?

Hi everyone,
I just received my first ever iphone as an upgrade 2 days ago and am so shocked that you can't mark sms messages as unread. Surely this is a crucial feature that allows you to come back to messages you don't want to reply to straight away but don't want to forget about?
Also, within bookmarks, is it not possible to delete the factory bookmarks and just keep your umported bookmarks at the top? You pretty much can't move them around!
Thanks for all of your help

Thank you for replying, but unfortunately your response if not related to my problem:
I am aware that SMS message remain available until I decide to delete them - my query is that I am wondering if there is an option to mark a message or thread as 'unread'.
As for bookmarks, I am aware how to drag them, but my query was how to delete the Apple bookmark folders. Also, thank you for pointing out the User Guide - I am aware of how to operate my iPhone to this level thank you very much!

  • Marking multiple messages as unread

Is there a way to mark multiple emails as unread?
I find that many times I have already read my emails on my Mac, but the iPhone lists them all as unread. It seems silly that I should have to "re-read" them one-by-one to mark them unread on the iPhone. So, instead of wasting my time with such a task, my iPhone is always indicating >50 or >100 unread emails.
Where is the "Mark all as read" option ??

    Destin Hoffmann1,
If you are accessing your .Mac with IMAP on your computer and iPhone, they will be marked as read on both when you read them on either. When using IMAP there is no need to reread them. If you use the .Mac option when setting up the account directly on the phone it will be set up as IMAP. With POP3 the message status is not synced.
This article has more information about POP3 versus IMAP:

    Hope this helps,

  • Anyone know of a way to backup SMS messages for FREE on a Mac?

Anyone know of a good program to extract SMS messages from the iphone, or the backup file located in /Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup on a mac? Something that is able to put it into a .txt file or anything that is legible?
And most importantly, that is firmware 3.0 friendly, works on an iphone 3GS (obviously but just incase) and is free? I saw some online but you have to pay for them and some aren't even iPhone OS 3.0 compatible. Only 2.0
Or does anyone know of a way to do this yourself by navigating the files in the backup folder?
Lastly... anyone know of a way to put old SMS's back on an iPhone if you decide to do a new restore instead of one from a backup? Many thanks!

Thanks neuroanatomist. That was really helpful, but when I went in and looked in my SMS folder, I opened it under notepad and it was all garbled and hard to read. It didn't look like in my iphone of indicating conversations between me and another person. I could see my conversations, but they where all mixed in with numbers and weird characters I've never seen before. You wouldn't happen to know of another program out there that can put it perhaps like in a word doc. or even excel sheet? Something that's just organized. Thanks.
Anyone else care to help me out with some mac community friendly advice? Thanks!

  • Is there a way to list SMS messages?

Is there a way to programmatically get a list of SMS messages on the iPhone from an app? I've been digging through the documentation and haven't seen anything that indicates an API for that.

Opened mail this morning and all of a sudden all my old and already read messages appeared marked unread and mail exexpectedly quits.
I have read many answers to this problem in the Os X 10.4 group, but no real solutions, except for the one about the mailto-link. But that didn't work for me either. People think this is a 10.4.3 bug, but my Mac (G4 mirrored) runs Os 10.3.9 .

p.s. is there a way to save all my read messages if I decide to reinstall mail?
    Nikki

I don’t understand what you say about what you’ve seen in the Tiger forum, but Mail is crashing because of some corruption in at least one of the files used by the junk filter.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, proceed as follows:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
    3. Locate LSMMap2 and move it to the Trash. This file stores information about what does and doesn’t constitute junk, and allows the junk filter to learn. Deleting this file is what Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset does. The file was called LSMMap in early versions of Mail; delete that as well if you see it.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Need a way to marked text messages

I get a lot of texts that work on different tasks I need to do. I would like a way to be able to mark a text once it is completed without having to delete the text. Currently I delete them once they are completed as this helps me keep track of things yet to be done.  Coworkers do not like to write emails. Through texting I have no way to keep a record of communications. Unless I let my message box get fall and then I am lost trying to keep track of what I need to complete. So, it would be nice if from the main text box I could put a mark by the complete message inbox from a particular person, and also to go into that person's communication history and individually Mark separate texts. If there is no way to do this through an app, I would love for the developers to work on this because it would make my job so much easier.

Submit your feedback directly to Apple using the appropriate link on the Feedback page:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
You could always copy the texts to the Reminders app or some other task management app.

  • Leaving Messages as Unread

I am new to using Mail.App and cannot seem to find a way to have the program stop marking my emails as read. I have a habit (bad as it may be) of previewing the email and then coming back to it to take action. The problem is that I have to constantly mark the message as unread because Mail defaults to marking it as read. Is there anything I can do to have Mail.app leave the message as unread and force me to mark it as read -- preferably when I reply to the email?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jason

    unfortunately you cannot do that.
i would suggest you try this work around: create a rule for either every message or only messages from a specific account so that the color is set to red or blue or purple.... to create a rule go to mail>preferences>rules then add a new rule. then whenever a new email is received it will be colored red or blue or purple whether you read it or not, then once you read it and are done with it, you can manually change the color by selecting the email then 1) shift/apple/c and changing the color or 2) going to format>show colors and changing the color or 3) if you have set the color icon to show on your toolbar, clicking on the color icon and changing the color.
    hope this helps

  • How Do I Export SMS Messages?

Is there a way to export SMS messages to my computer from the iPhone? Perhaps a third party application?

Try "CallWave". It is a widget that allows you to get you voicemail and text messages on you computer. It overrides the current inbox and voicemail so I'm not using it until I download an existing voicemail but after that I plan on it.

  • Address book and SMS messages

    Hi,
I am having some difficulty getting incoming SMS messages to appear with address book. It worked about a week ago, then did an update to the Mac OS and it doesn't work. Incoming calls show up, just not incoming SMS messages.
Also, is there a way to send SMS messages to an email address through address book as I can through my phone?
    Working with a G4 running 10.4.8
    Nokia 6230
Is there a preference I possibly changed?

    i got same problem here.
My incoming sms only managed to pop up in address book during the first connection (via bluetooth) to my Nokia 6230i, right after i upgrade my system to 10.4.8.
Subsequent connections fail to get incoming sms pop up again.
Tried changing many settings but it never works again. i have already given up now.
    I'm using Address book Version 4.0.4 (485.1).

  • Recovering SMS messages?

Is there any way to recover SMS messages once they no longer appear on the Text screen?

You can use a special software that I have installed called "Syphone"
    http://www.micromat.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=190
EDIT: This software backs up all your SMS conversations with each person and every time you sync
your phone it adds to the previous conversation. For example, I have SMS conversations on my computer since September 2008 but my iPhone only goes back to last month because I cleared the conversation.

  • Is there any way to mark messages forwarded by a rule with that little "forwarded" arrow?

Normally, after forwarding an email, a little arrows appears next to the message reminding me that the message was forwarded. However, when I set up a rule to forward messages, those little "forwarded" arrows don't show up. Why is this?
Is there any way to automatically mark a message as forwarded?

I have considered adding a flag as you suggested, but one of the things I really like about the "forwarded" arrow is that, when clicked, it shows me the forwarded message and to whom it was forwarded.
I've also noticed that the same rule, when I select "Apply Rule", does in fact mark those as forwarded with the arrow, but when I click those arrows, it can't find the message. And then, just like before, any new messages that I receive don't get marked. Just seems odd to me. Wish I didn't have to use the flag workaround.
