No White Balance In Metadata Tab for RAW files

Hi - when I open my images in Bridge, I cannot see any White Balance info in the metadata tab for my RAW files despite it being checked in the metadata preferences tab (under both Camera Data EXIF and Camera Raw). In fact the metadata tab doesn't show up at all for Camera Raw info. It is very frustrating especially when I am comparing images taken using customs white balance, and ones taken using the automated WB settings. I am using CS3. Any advice on how to solve this mystery? Thanks

Could you be more specific about what system you have and what version of Bridge and Camera Raw plug in you are using?
Have you checked the Bridge menu: window and see if a checkmark is placed in front of the metadata panel?
Also if only the tab for the metadata panel is visible the only option to view the data itself is to drag the panel up or down to resize it and makes the data visible.

  • White Balance Tint Limit When Processing Raw Files

Hi guys, following some recent suggestions I've got hold of some Welding glass to use as an ND filter on my Fuji HS20. It arrived today and works a treat.
I do however now have a new issue that this has caused.  I've set a custom white balance on the camera to counter act the tint from the glass. This now produces the correct colour on my jpg photo's however the RAW files have the wrong colour tint.
When I open them in photoshop elements 11 I get the CAMERA RAW application. The white balance is set to 'AS SHOT' however the Tint is at +150. I'm guessing my problem is that the tint needs to be more than +150 and CAMERA RAW is limiting it.
Does this mean I am now limited to using JPG's when I use this glass as an ND filter, or is there a way I can get rid of this limit to the tint on the white balance

I have exactly the same problem. The reply is to your question is not what you were asking, isnt it?
The point is that we CAN NOT adjust the white balance as suggested, because the sliders are already at their maximum value when we open the photo in camera raw. We'd need to further increase the tint value (as the photo looks green) but it is by default at 150, so we cannot increase it further.
One way to overcome the limitation of the tint/temp sliders is to save an intermediate tiff or psd file. You can open it in ACR and apply the same maximal slider correction.
For the same purpose, instead of saving an intermediate file, I opened the raw file in the editor. From there, I used the Editinacr script in Elements+ to reopen the layer in ACR (shift f3 and script selection). Same corrections and back as a new layer in the editor. I could repeat the process several times to get a very powerful correction without intermediate files.

  • Cannot paste white balance settings to all selected raw files

    Hi,
I select a raw file whose WB I need in order to place it to a whole set of raw files. I press Copy... and make sure WB is selected. then I move to the folder containing the raw files I need to copy the WB to, select them all and press Paste. NOTHING happens.
What am I doing wrong or is this a bug?
    Thanks,
    Juan Dent

the only module that has Copy/Paste buttons is the Develop module. If I switch to Library/Grid view there is no Paste button.... then, how do I paste the settings I copied?  Also, what is the Paste button functionality?? Why is it in  the Develop module if it cannot be used there?
There is more than one way to skin a cat! Library module Photo>Develop Settings (see screen shot). There are even keyboard shortcuts. The Copy /Paste Settings commands can also be found in the Develop module under the Settings menu.
BTW: In Develop module I would tend to use the Sync button rather than Copy / Paste. Sync will operate on all selected images whereas as Paste will only operate on the most selected image.

  • Is xmp files only availble for RAW files?

When we develop a RAW image with Camera Raw, we always get an xmp file with all the settings,
But after I developed a JPG image, I saw the Camera Raw Settings icon appeared above the right upper corner of the image thumbnail in Bridge,
however, I couldn't find the xmp file.
Is xmp files only availble for RAW files? JPGs or TIFs don't have xmp files for their Camera Raw settings??

Read-only didn't work for me, on a single jpg file, although it did lead to some interesting behavior.  Set the read-only attribute on a jpg file in Windows XP and then tried the following:
    1.  Opened in Bridge, then into ACR 5.4.  Performed some edits, then tried "Done", received permissions error and would not save edits.
    2.  Did the same except now invoked "Open", went into CS4 with edits intact and allowed saving out as different file.  However, the ACR edits were not saved within the jpg, as expected, nor was a xmp created.
    3.  Removed the read-only attribute, repeated (2).  Even though did not save file in CS4 the "Open" action did embed the edits into the jpg.
So read-only doesn't really allow creation of a xmp file, other than perhaps temporarily for transfer to Photoshop.  It does lead to somewhat inconsistent behavior, in that I would have expected the "Open" to fail also since it could not bury the edits in the jpg.

  • I can't open the RAW files from my new Nikon D4s camera in photoshop? How do I download the latest software for RAW files?

I can't open the RAW files from my new Nikon D4s camera in photoshop? How do I download the latest software for RAW files? Cheers!

What version of Photoshop are you running?  You will need at CS5, CS6, CC or CC2014.  Each version needs a different ACR-plug-in to open files from that camera.
If you are on CS4 or earlier, you'll need to upgrade—or, in the alternative; look for, download, instal, launch and run the free, stand-alone DNG Converter 8.6 on each file of raw NEF files to convert them to raw DNGs first so you can open them in your version of Photoshop and ACR plug-in higher than 2.4.

For that Nikon model you need ACR 8.3 that means CS6 or CC.  Or you can download the DNG converter convert your Nikon RAW files to Adobe RAW files. And then process the Adobe RAW files with CS5 ACR version  6.7

    Really Sucks

We can't know. You are not offering any system information or e.g. info about what image files you are working with. Since they do show up in your otehr programs, my assumption would be that you need to switch the Camera Raw engine back to the 2009/2010 version in Photoshop and not use the default new 2012 one. Perhaps your thumbnails will appear then....

  • Open event for RAW files from Bridge

I installed the “Open As Layer.jsx” to promote the background into a layer and rename that layer to the file name. This is working perfect when I open the file via file menu from PS.
If I use a double-click from the Bridge it works only for JPEG’s and other files but not for RAW-files. As soon as ACR is involved, no open event is fired in Photoshop.
Is there a way to catch another event after the file is placed in PS? I tried to find some with the ScriptListener.8li but I don’t get a log entry.
    Thanks for help.

    Edit:
Glad to hear you got it working.
I'll just leave what i had put here anyway.
    You want Program Files (x86)
That's where the 32 bit programs such as photoshop cs3 are on a windows 7 64 bit system.
Also, in bridge cs3 under Edit>Preferences>Thumbnails ensure Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for Jpeg and Tiff files is checked.
    (then restart bridge cs3)

  • How to use lz4 compression for RAW file inside DNG ?

I know DNG supports zip compression. However, I want to use lz4 compression, as I am saving the file in realtime, and I cannot see any zip library matching the performance of lz4 for 16-bit RAW.
In my case this is 12-bit data with 4 bits set to zero.

Is there a study that compared the encoding speeds of the 3 algorithms available for RAW files ?
    LZW, Packbits, Deflate.
I think Lossless JPEG can also work with 1 plane setting.
Also, looking at the dng_validate code, and the calls to relevant libraries, I see that the code seems to deal only with byte boundaries.
Are any of these algorithms optimized for 10,12,14-bit RAW data ?
I am trying to encode 203 MBps of data. Intel IPP would be an option, but its obviously nicer if DNG SDK can provide whats needed for free with some tweaking.

  • Expand white balance beyond 2000K for RAW files

I'm finding, with the mixture of lighting situations I find at weddings (evening venues especially) that 2000K sometimes is not enough for me to get a correct white balance. I'm having to apply a filter on top to get a true white balance.
Is there any reason why 2000K is the current limit? If not, could you expand it past 2000K?
    Thank-you!
