No wifi connection with PRE on home network

This should be simple but no one has solved it yet. When I try to access my home network (Linksys router, wifi enabled) the Pre says there are two networks available but neither of them is one I recognize. The SSIDs are not even close to mine. If I try to connect to the strongest one the Pre asks for my password but never accepts anything I give it nor does it act like it's trying to connect. It just does nothing. What's going on here and how do I fix it?

First, let me thank you for the quick response. It's most appreciated. The strongest signal is called William, a highly suspect name. My SSID is homenetw, not even close. The other, much weaker signal, is the name of the DSL modem/router that I can't find a way to disable. It's possible there are other routers in the neighborhood but it seems unlikely. If you knew anything about our area you would agree. What's more, I can find nothing in any of the router settings with the value "William." My router is basically a draft N router with G fall back. The fact that the Pre shows a full strength signal leads me to believe it's hitting the right router. What else can you suggest?
Try cycling power to your router (disconnect the power cord for a minute, then reconnect).   I'm assuming you're not using any kind of extra security measures in the router - MAC filtering, turned broadcasting of your SSID off, or have some kind of network monitoring software that could block addition of any new device to the network?
Have you tried resetting the phone?  From page 182 of the Pre User Guide for Sprint:
Restart Your Phone
If an application freezes, first try restarting your phone. No files or settings are changed when
you restart.
1. Open Device Info .
2. Tap Phone Reset Options and tap Restart.
How about switching from Airplane mode off/on?
How about page 233 concerning connecting to a secure network that isn't displayed?  That might help.

  • Clear net connectivity with time capsule/home network

So Chicago has a new ISP - Clear. It is a wireless provider that boasts download speeds up to 12mbps. I have been using ATT DSL elite pro with time capsule as my wireless hub. I have extended my network via airport express and have two that power speakers/home entertainment system.
I have it up and running and connected directly from their router to my iMac. I would like to attach the motorola wireless router to my current home network that runs between the timecapsule and two airport expresses.
Any help would be appreciated. As well your opinions on choice of wireless ISPs vs home dsl line.
    Thanks
    Jenn

From your description, it sounds like you could swap the Clear modem and the AT&T modem/router. Power down your entire network for a moment. Then start the Clear modem first and let it run for 3-4 minutes, then start the Time Capsule, then Expresses and computers.
If you get a blinking amber light on the Time Capsule, check your settings as follows using AirPort Utility. It's located as follows: Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click Manual Setup and then click the Internet icon at top of the setup page
At the bottom of the next page, look for the Connection Sharing setting. If I understand the Clear info correctly, you would set this to "Share a public IP address"
I notice that Clear has online tech support, so you make need to refer to them as well. Please post back on your progress.

  • TS1398 My ipad will not connect to other wifi networks. It has connected to my main home network but will not connect to the booster network in my home (it has previously!) It will also not connect to other networks outside my home.

    Hi
I just got new router and had to reset my network settings on IPad. Since then, my ipad will connect onto the main home network but will not attach to my extension booster (netgear) which is linked to the home network. It will also not attach to networks outside my home that it has previously worked with. i have reset the settings again, powered off and on again, updated to the latest IOS update, but nothing is working. Please help, as I can only use wifi in a few rooms in my house and i do not have 3G on my my ipad.

Did you try forgetting the network and starting all over again?
Settings>WiFi>Network Name>Tap the blue arrow>Forget this Network. Restart your iPad and then try joining again.
Try rebooting your router. Even though everything else may be connecting to your Network, it might help with the iPad. Unplug the router for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
Reset Network settings on the iPad?
Settings>>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. You will have to start all over again, Tap WiFi in the settings, find your network and enter the password.

  • Ipad will no longer connect to my private home network

i have always had my ipad mini connected to my private home network for over a year and just 3 days ago it no longer connects to my network! Why is that and how can i fix it???
i have no problems with my iphone 4s! it still connects to my wifi!

If you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPad. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPad on some other WiFi networks: a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is probably with your network. Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPad does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. You could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings to see if that corrects the problem. If not, contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPad is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

  • How can i fix my wifi connection with my router

how can i fix my wifi connection with my router?

I think I'm having a similar problem, my wifi disconnects when a bluetooth device is connected to the MBA.
I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) with WiFi and Apple Trackpad.  I'm unable to use the trackpad(bluetooth) and wifi at the same time.  If I turn off the trackpad then the wifi works fine and if I shutoff the wifi then the trackpad works fine.  This configuration was working fine prior to upgrading to Yosemite.
I experienced the same problem at home and at the office.
    Additional test:
I turned off the bluetooth trackpad and connected my bluetooth headphones to the MBA.  The wifi disconnected as soon as I paired the headphones with the MBA.
I have had no problems with the MBA's keyboard or integrated trackpad.

  • How can I fix an intermittent wifi connection with my MacBook laptop

I have experienced intermittent problems with the wifi connection on my MacBook (2006, 10.6.5 OSX) computer and noticed that other users have commented about this same issue.  Not sure if the problem revolves around the updates from Apple or my wifi card but I only seem to loose my wifi connection with the MacBook.  I have other Apple products, Iphones, Ipads and IMac and they all retain the wifi connection.  Additionally, when I connect the internet cable directly to the MacBook, there is no loss of signal and I have no problem connecting to the Internet.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

After several unsuccessful attempts to resolve my intermittent wifi connection with a 2006 MacBook (I had service techs from Apple store, PeachMac and Computer Advantage check the intermittent wifi problem in store and they could not recreate this issue), I broke down and bought a new wifi card and installed it myself.  The intermittent problem was resolved and my wifi connection works fine everywhere in my home.  Ifixit's website has a great video that explains in detail how to remove and install a new wifi card and you will need the right tools and patience.  Thanks to everyone that posted comments about this issue because the comments proved helpful in solving my problem.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

I have an ipad also wifi at home. Would is needed to use my wifi connection while not at home?

You can't use your wi-fi connection when not at home. Heck, my wi-fi connection bales out halfway down the back garden.  Many places offer wifi hot-spots. Go google. The only (relatively) surefire way to be able to get on the internet anywhere is to have a 3G capable iPad and corresonding data plan.

  • New imac 27(Intel based, bought 2013) slow wifi connection with my Verizon fios actiontec router. All other wireless devices in the house(ipad 3gen,MacBook Air ,hp laptop) have a much faster connection. Should I change router settings to G only, etc

New imac 27(Intel based, bought 2013) slow wifi connection with my Verizon fios actiontec router. All other wireless devices in the house(ipad 3gen,MacBook Air ,hp laptop) have a much faster connection. Should I change router settings to G only, switch channel from auto to maybe 6,channel width to 20mhz? Already changed security settings to WPA2.  Currently router is running in mixed b and g mode.

If you have one computer running on G they will all run on G. All ROUTERS are backward compatible, in otherwords if you have a group of computers and all of them are N compatible and one or two are G They will all work but the N computers will run at N and those that are G will run at G speed not N.
It can get confusing but really it is simple. The newest is 802.11 AC and ic used with the newest Mac Computers made available in November 2013. So if you have the newest Airport Extreme that is 802.11ac and the newest computers that are AC compliant your speed will be 5 times faster than anything on the market right now.

  • IMac won't connect to MBP on home network

I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro at home on the same network. The iMac is connected by ethernet, the MBP by wireless. The MBP can see the iMac under the shared list in Finder. I can select and browse folders. The issue is on the iMac. I can see the MBP but when I try and connect it just hangs. Occasionally I do connect but all the folder I try and browse have a red circles and won't let me access.
I have tried deleting the com.apple.finder.plist file and logging out/logging in on both machines. This did not fix the problem. Any help is appreciated.

I came on here to post the same - or similar issue.
My iMac G5 sees but fails to connect via airport and home network to my Macbook. Macbook connects to iMac no problem.
I tried connecting them directly via ethernet, same result. iMac sees but fails to connect to Macbook; Macbook connects to iMac.
This has happened before and has worked itself out (although I don't know how).
Yesterday, I did an Onyx clean up and maintenance.

Lost wifi connection with Airport Extreme.   When I connect my modem directly to the computer I can access the internet, however as of this morning I am no longer able to access the internet via wifi on my airport extreme.  I have been using  airport extreme for 6 months or more and everything has been working fine.
When I diconnect my  airport extreme and reconnect it I get wifi for 1-2 minutes working fine, but then i lose internet connection.  According to airport Utility everything is setup and connected and working ok, but I still am not able to access any webpages over wifi.

  • Devices (iPad, iPhone) no longer can maintain wifi connectivity with time capsule

My iPad and iPhone can no longer maintain wifi connectivity with time capsule.   Time capsule has connectivity to internet via Macbook, but not other devices.  This started after upgrade of devices to s/w 6.0.  Does anyone know if that could impact connectivity?

Yes, this is often reported with iOS 6.. there are definitely more wireless problems.
I recommend you reset the TC in the following ways.
    1. Change all names to SMB type.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. that includes the TC itself, wireless and hard disk. I recommend a different name for 5ghz so you can force clients to that band without auto voodoo affecting it.
    2. Use WPA2 Personal security only.. 8-12 character pure alphanumeric passkey.
    3. Lock the wireless channels.. particularly for 2.4ghz.. pick one of the channels, out of 1, 6, 11 as these are the only ones that do not overlap.. test each in turn for the best and most stable. TC should pick the best itself but that is voodoo and I am preferring to run the system without black arts.
