No Wifi icon indicator in upper left

When I log on to wireless networks with my iPad it shows as logged in in the Wifi area of settings. But when leave there the icons in upper left still show cell signal/lte and not the wireless signal strength icon.  Why is this happening and how do I ensure using wireless vs cell coverage?

Hi SD Buck,
Here are some suggestions for troubleshooting wireless networks on your iPad:

  • WiFi icon/indicator disappears

Yesterday a bunch of users noticed that their WiFi icon/indicator disapeared and that the phones show "acquiring IP address" non-stop. Two things:
    1) I noticed that even though this is happening I could still use WiFi to access servers on my LAN anyway, so my WiFi worked (same with other users).
    2) This symptom coincided with blackberry.com being offline.
    3) If you turn off Data Services in settings, the WiFi icon comes back immediately.
As soon as blackberry.com came back online, everybody's WiFi icon came back
Can you provide an explanation for this behaviour? I would dearly love to clear the matter up with all my users/friends.
    Cheers,
    Dave Matthews
P.S. The exact same thing happened two weeks ago (June 3rd).

a better option IMO is to use Address Reservation in DHCP
When you specify a reserved IP address for a computer on the LAN, that computer receives the same IP address each time it accesses the router’s DHCP server. Assign reserved IP addresses to servers that require permanent IP settings.
not sure if you have tested this or not John, but it makes life easier when you dont have to change network settings on a laptop, tablet or mobile phone

  • What happened to moving the menu bar to the icon in the upper left hand corner ?

Firefox used to do this really neat thing where you could relocate the menu bar to the Firefox icon in the upper left hand corner of the browser. The menu itself was changed and rearranged as well. All you had to do is click on the Firefox icon in the upper left hand corner of the browser and the menu bar would appear as a menu from that icon at the same time hiding the menu bar. What happened to that feature?

That has never been a built-in feature of Firefox 3.6.* or earlier versions. Firefox 4 will introduce a button that replaces the menu bar, if you had a similar feature in an earlier version of Firefox it would have been added by an extension.
Possible extensions that you may have used are [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4550/ Compact Menu 2] or [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1455/ Tiny Menu].

    hi

Since about 2 weeks ago for no apparent reason, the internet on my iPad suddenly stopped working (when I open Safari, it says: "Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the Internet"), even though the Wifi icon in the top left corner still shows full signal. However, I noticed when I went into Wifi settings (Settings>Wifi) that there is no checkmark next to my network name (only the spinning circle icon, as if it's trying to process something). This only happens at home (I can browse the internet while connected to  Wifi at university). My other Apple devices (MacBook Pro and iPhone 4S) work perfectly fine at home.
I've tried resetting my router, restarting my iPad, resetting Network Settings on my iPad, and tried following Hynes' instructions on this thread:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2453187?start=15&tstart=0, but nothing has worked so far (although I have to admit that I found the instructions on that thread somewhat confusing, so there is a chance that I accidentally did not follow them properly).
Could someone please help? It'd be VERY much appreciated.

  • I have an IPhone 4S and I can't get my phone to show the group icon in the upper left side of my contacts screen

How do I get the group icon to show up in the upper right hand corner of my contacts. Mine just has the partial circle with the arrow on one end

Cloud services... Yahoo!, hotmail, AOL, Google... Undoubtedly others I may have missed.  Check the settings for each mail account and see which, if any, have contact syncing turned on. On your computer, Outlook or Windows Address Book on a PC, Contacts/Address Book on a Mac. Check the info pane for the phone in iTunes.

  • I'm no longer getting Allow and Remember prompt. I have to manually click the red icon in the upper left to access it. How do I restore the automatic prompt?

Yesterday I visited a site to which I often go, pingtest.net. Normally, when I visit that site, a thin horizontal bar appears at the top of the browser viewing frame. I do not recall what it says, but it stretches the entire length of frame, from left to right. On the right edge of the bar is an x, if I wish to close it. In addition, when this horizontal bar appears, I also get a box which is about six to seven times the height of the thin horizontal bar that appears over the left edge of the thin horizontal bar. This box stretches across the width of about a sixth or fifth of the width of the horizontal bar. It contains something like the following: Show All, Allow, Allow and Remember. I normally click the Show all option, and I normally select Allow Now for all options.
Here's what happened yesterday: I went to pingtest.net, the horizontal bar appeared, and everything seemed normal. However I took no action. Instead, I changed my mind and decided to go to a different URL. My cursor was in the middle of the screen. I moved the cursor up to what I intended to be the URL field, in order to enter a new URL. Unfortunately I didn't move the cursor sufficiently. So, instead of clicking in the URL field, I clicked right in the middle of the horizontal bar. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I CLICKED BUT FROM THAT MOMENT TO THIS THAT HORIZONTAL BAR HAS NEVER RE-APPEARED. WHATEVER I CLICKED, IT APPEARS I INSTRUCTED FIREFOX TO NEVER PROVIDE ME WITH THAT HORIZONTAL BAR AGAIN!!!
As a result, I am also no longer getting the grey box with the Show All, Allow, Allow and Remember options.
How can I restore normal behavior, and get the normal horizontal bar and the normal box with the Show All, Allow, Allow and Remember options?

We had another thread recently where the user clicked "Continue Blocking" and thereafter, Firefox never showed the infobar. I posted a way to clear the block so that the infobar would display once again. It's a little involved, but if it's going to keep driving you crazy, see: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1011980 reset plugin behavior].

  • I lost the Firefox Icon in the upper left corner of desk top - drop down menu.

Its the orange bar with down arrow. How do I get it back ????????

As far as I know the standard option is to have either the firefox button or the menubar toolbar. Additionally if you press the keyboard Alt key then the menubar displays with the firefox button. (In windows just press the alt key,in linux hold the alt key down)
I have fixed the link in the last post, you should get something similar to this: https://support.mozilla.org/media/uploads/gallery/images/2011-10-06-03-46-34-2722c3.png when you click on the firefox button
If you want to display the menubar instead of the firefox button then use
    * Firefox button -> Options -> Toolbars -> [] Menubar
    * or right click an empty space on the tabs toollbar and select menubar in the dropdown

No, you will have to replace the switch or do an out-of-warranty replacement at an Apple Store.

  • IPod "FastForward" icon upper left-hand side

I have a "double play" like icon (or fast-forward icon) on the upper left-hand side of my iPod display, where the play icon used to be, this "new" icon is always on, even when I connect my iPod to my iBook, it remains on top of the revolving circle icon that comes up when the "Do not disconnect" display is on. This icon doesn't interfere with any other iPod function, I can still play, view, transfer files on and of my iPod, but I'm sure this icon wasn't there before. Does anybody know what this icon means? what is best, How can I get rid of it?
I'm using a 20 GB iPod Photo (or color display).

I'm having the same problem. Any idea how to fix it?

  • WiFi Icons in 1G Touch

Since updating to OS 3.1.2 (or maybe 3.1.1), my wifi icons indicating connection and progress no longer appear. Wifi works, but the icons don't. Following another post on this board, I have tried restarting and restoring the unit several times, but it has not helped.

I'm assuming you mean the WiFi signal strength icon in the top left corner. If that isn't it, then I'm not sure what you are referring to.
BTW, if you don't have the WiFi (actually Airport) symbol, the only way I know to get it back is to reset your network settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

  • Strange alert in the upper left corner???

When I go to my AppleTV, I briefly see a small black and white icon in the upper left corner of my TV screen. The icon looks like a Mac Pro (front view) icon with a horizontal battery icon to its immediate right. If it was my digital camera, I would think my camera's batteries needed to be changed soon.
    Any idea what this is?
BTW- This is the third or fourth query I've made to this forum and I would like to express my gratitude to the folks who have provided answers to my questions. You folks are an inspiration to me to be helpful to others when I can.
    Thanks again,
    John

Perhaps it means the battery in your remote needs to be replaced

  • My macbook desktop screen does not show a wifi icon !!!

So a couple days ago my wifi icon on the top left of the screen near the battery percentage disappeared! I can connect with an ethernet but it really annoys me that there is no icon on the top right of the screen to easily access wireless internet!! HOW DO I GET IT BACK!!! PLEEEEASE HELP!

Try restarting your ipad by holding down the sleep button at the top right and then sliding the red slider when it appears on screen. Turn it back on by holding the sleep button until the apple logo appears. This worked for me!
