No wifi networks show up. Other ipods work

No networks show up on wifi.
All obvious settings tried, woked before, other ipos work.
Suggestions, or pooched?

If this is the problem then it is frequently a hardware peroblem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Have you tried restoring the iPod, first from backup and then to factory defaults/new iPod.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

you have to set up your router to solve th problem. first find and write down the ipad mac address.
then log on to your router using your laptop or any device that can connect to router at 192.168.0.1 in your web browser. please check out my posting about how to resolve the wifi connection problem.
i think the ios6 update has reset the networking but if you set up the router then you should not have the same problem any more.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

  • Why there is no wifi network showing on my iphone 4s

why there is no wifi network showing on my iphone 4s.

i got this reply for mts yesturday...
There is no set time when LTE will be available on the iphone 5 with MTS.  The LTE network works well with MTS but currently our agreement with Apple does not allow us to activate it for the iphone 5.  However we are working with Apple to get LTE access for the phone.  I apologize about any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?

    Hi,
No.  You do not need Wi-fi to sync music to or play music on your iPod.  Try resetting your iPod:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430.

  • Problem viewing streaming video in some wifi networks, but not others

When I am at work (university), I can not view YouTube videos or video streaming from news sites such as cnn mobile on my ipod touch 2g.
    <m.cnn.com/videos.jsp?ckey-cnn)06#__1_>
When I called Apple support, they had me reset-restore. I still had the problem. I went to the Apple store Genius bar and the problem no longer existed, the videaos downloaded and played from both sites!
But at my diner and at work, I get the message, "This movie could not be played" in a popup box with an OK button. The same message appears if I use the YouTube application. I click on any video, and the same popup appears. In Cnn the popup is preceded by a shaded capital Q that looks like the blue Quicktime Q; in Youtube the pupup is preceded by a YouTube icon in gray with the "Tube" surrounded by the rounded rectangle, their icoon...
At the Apple store the popup never appeared, and the videos downloaded and played.
I have no trouble playing movies I have downloaded from iTunes.
I did not have this problem when I initially got my iPod Touch, and I think it appeared after one of the last two system upgrades, but I am not sure.
I am curious that it the problem happens at two places, my diner and at work.
The speed of my wireless work network, as judged by the ipod app speed test is 9915 kbps download and 6971 kbps upload, so plenty fast.
The first time I noticed this issue was with the application "At Bat Lite" which also won't play video highlights at work.
I do not have WiFi at home
Any thoughts about what would cause this lack of functionality apparantly only at some networks but not others?
Oh, one more piece of data: at work a Macbook will play YouTube both on ethernet and using wifi...
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions,
    Paul

It seems I have two networks available at work, one is behind our firewall, and I login to it. This is the network that I can't view streaming video. There is also a "Guest" network that I don't need to login to. This one works with the YouTube and the news site videos.
Thus, I conclude there is a setting that WiFi network administrators can invoke that specifically can block streaming video on some protocols (whatever the ipod touch uses) and not others (whatever the Macbook uses). But the same router hardware supplying the Guest network does not block these protocols. Presumably this has to do with security on one side of the firewall(?)
Anyway, apparently outside of the WiFi controls available in the ipod touch settings.
    Weird...

  • My iPhone 4s connects to wifi networks, but internet own't work with password protected networks

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 4S.  I have been having issues with my wifi.  It works for several months, but one day for no reason I have been able to determine, the wifi stopped working.  It has been many weeks since it has worked.  I have tried several networks (home, work, relative's houses, etc...)
After visiting the Apple Genius Bar, I was told it was probably a software issue the wifi worked fine in the apple store on a unprotected network which showed that the wifi was able to function. It was recommended that I backup and then to a full reset to factory settings.
I did the backup and reset.  It has had no effect on my ability to use internet to secured networks.
I also updated the iOS to the most recent update ( 6.0.1) to see if that would help, but it didn't.
    To summarize:
    -iPhone connects to wifi networks
-Unable to use internet (or other data functions) while connected to a password protected wifi...but able to do so on unprotected networks.
    -Already tried resetting network settings.
-Already tried resetting to factory settings.
    -Already tried updating iOS.
    Thanks

Might be a wifi router issue.  Try power cycling the router and/or updating it's firmware.  You might also try temporarily removing any security features until you get it sorted out.  If still an issue, it might be wifi on the iPhone itself... there have been many reports of wifi problems with iOS6.  Have you restored as new, i.e. without your backup?  You could also Google for ways to downgrade back to iOS5.
Regarding the Chipotle issue, go for the bowl instead of the burrito.

  • Setting up a WiFi network from iMac... works on "old" iMac, not "new"

    Hello,
I hope I'm not crazy, or even worse, stupid.
I an running two iMacs in my home office. Old one= 21" 2 Ghz PowerPC G5, purchased summer 2005 and still running like a champ.  New one=27" 2.7 Ghz Intel i5. Purchased the new one July 2011. I have a cable modem plugged into the ethernet port on the old iMac. I've been accessing internet on new iMac with wifi and the internet sharing network I set up on old one. I also use wifi on my ipad and laptop. I have never had even a single dropped wifi connection on any of these devices.
I pretty much expected the same kind of result and performance when I reset the cable modem and plugged it into the new imac and took similiar steps to set up  internet sharing/wifi network on new iMac. This has not been the case.
    What's happening is:
The cable modem plugged to new iMac is working fine; verified with ISP. I set up wifi network on new iMac and turn on internet sharing. I locate my network name on ipad, laptop, even the old iMac, and I see the name in the list, so I figure so far so good. The signal icon appears in menu bar as usual. I open a web site to verify it's working. And it's working...for about 20 seconds. Then I get alert messages that there is no internet connection.
After creating a bunch of new networks and changing channels, changing type of security, even passwords, I realized I wasn't going to figure this out by myself. I'm not a technical person; Apple spoiled me and I stopped learning how to do anything except plug stuff in 20 years ago.
I started researching online including these discussion boards and answers have ranged from "It's the iMac! It's a hardware problem they never fixed! The aluminum case gets too hot!" to, "there's no airport card and you have to buy an external router."  I gave up and called Apple, thinking surely they'd be able to give me a straight answer. Ha ha. Nope.
Of course the bottom line is I could buy applecare (haven't yet...haven't used the computer hardly and I'm still under warranty), I could buy telephone tech support, or I can take the machine to the geniuses.
I keep thinking this can't be that complicated. When I buy a new iMac--this is my 4th one--I expect things will get easier, not this complicated mess.
Oh, last I want to include I just reversed everything back to the way it was. My old iMac is connected to the cable modem and the old iMac is back to being my wifi network, sharing internet with the new imac, my ipad and laptop. Easy as pie.
I'm making an appointment with the geniuseses but hoping it's just something I'm too dumb to realize I'm doing wrong.
Thank you in advance for your patience; any help is much appreciated!

It never occurred to me that the wireless network/internet sharing thing wouldn't work just as well if not better on a brand new machine with the improved technologies I pretty much expect. Metal could be interfering with the signal? The machine is aluminum!! I'm no engineer but that seems kind of...flawed.  I just don't understand.
I think the WiFi antenna is near an edge of the computer to avoid being encased in metal. It should work like t did in your old computer, but as I said, the use of a Mac to share an internet signal is much less common than use of a router so even if the newer computers have a non-optimal design, it might not get widely noticed in forums like these.
Sounds like AppleCare is what you want, so I'd get it and then have them check that your Mac is transmitting thru the wireless card/antenna as strongly as it should be. The antenna clearly works as you can RECEIVE a signal, but the transmitter uses different circuitry than the receiver. By the way, I think AppleCare is a good thing to get for iMacs and for laptops as they are very compact and tend to be more prone to thermal problems than other desktop computers.
I have no idea about routers aside from, of course, the apple air port one that the phone tech support guy mentioned. Are there others that are less money and just as good? I don't feel like rewarding apple for selling me a product that doesn't do what the earlier geration machines did without a problem. Seems like they shouldn't make another $200 because of their flaw. My old iMac's wifi signal was strong enough for a 3500 square foot house, 2 laptops and an iphone.
Would getting an external router definitely solve my problem? Which one would you recommend if I go that route?
I also did not understand why the Apple routers (Airport) were so much more expensive than other brands. So I purchased a linksys n router some years ago and it has worked quite well. They are very easy to configure through an ordinary web browser (some Mac folks prefer the Airport utilities that are used to configure the Airport routers, but I find the web browser interface very easy to use for the non-Apple routers), and they are in very widespread use (linksys isn't the only brand that is good for this, there are others, but I've had good experience with both Belkin and Linksys). You can get very high performing n routers from Belkin and Linksys for under $100. I'd get a router that has dual band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), and I think most include standard features like MAC filtering (a security measure), WPA2 security, and I thiink offering Gigabit ethernet ports would be good also in case you connect something to it like a hard drive server or a printer or want a fast local network sometime in the future.
I think the router will solve your problem and do a better job of wirelessly distributing your internet signal, but if the problem is due to a faulty wireless card (that receives fine but doesn't transmit properly) in the new iMac, I'd want to get that fixed under warranty (or AppleCare) now rather than later.
One more thing: if your wireless card in the new iMac is working properly but the physical layout is such that the internet sharing isn't working well, you OUGHT to be able to eventually get it to work by moving the other devices you are sharing with around to different locations, as eventually one should end up in a spot that works. If nothing can receive the shared internet from the new iMac, even when 3 feet away, then something might well be wrong with the new iMac's transmitter.

  • Airport Express WiFi network MAC address filtering not working

I have an Airport Express WiFi network which I bought and installed new in 2011. Initially I enabled MAC address access control and populated a list. It was working perfectly, I know, because a niece visiting tried to connect her iPhone and could not until  I added its MAC address to the allowed list. Now however, anyone can connect without being added to the list. I think I read somewhere that a recent firmware update permanently disabled MAC filtering in Airport Express, even when it was previously working? Can anyone enlighten me about what's going on here?

In a sense those are/were/should operate as two separate functions, which they did before recently.
They do operate as two separate functions.....but it all depends on how you have the default rule setup in Timed Access.
If the default rule in Timed Access is set to No Access.......then a wireless device cannot connect....even it has the password for the network.....unless it has been setup on the list of allowed devices in Timed Access.
I have checked this 3 times this evening to verify. It works as it always has, and as expected.
If the default rule in Timed Access is set to Unlimited, then any device can connect to the network if it has the password. Devices that are listed or specified in Timed Access will be allowed to connect at the specific times that have been set up for each device.
So, if you want to use the more traditional MAC Access Control settings, the default rule has to be set to No Access and then you must set up a rule for each device that you want to allow to connect to the network. Only devices on the Timed Access list will be allowed to connect to the network. Other devices will not be able to connect to the network....even if they have the correct password.
If a recent firmware update has changed things from what they have always been.....then I am not affected....and I should be if I am using the same firmware as others.

  • TS1398 Update iPhone 4s to 6.1.3 (10B329) now I can't connect to any wifi networks at home or at work and all car Bluetooth systems will not connect either. Help! Extremely annoyed at apple for putting out software that causes such mayhem.

My iPhone 4s has been update as I said in subject bar.. Now can't connect to any of my cars Bluetooth systems. Also even more frustratingly can't connect to any wifi networks at home or work!!
How can apple put out such an update that causes so much grief and inconvenience to hundreds of people. Not to mention risking lives with Bluetooth kits not working...outraged!!!!!!

First, grow up.  Just because YOUR phone isn't working, doesn't mean Apple put out bad software.  I've not had any difficulty, nor has anyone else I know.  And just how is Apple risking lives with Bluetooth kits not working?  It's YOUR decision to talk on the phone or text and drive.  Not Apple's.
