No wifi networks visible

Hello,
I have a mid-2012 MacBook Air running Mavericks (10.9.2) that is no longer seeing any WiFi networks, when all other devices in my apartment (iPhones, iPads, an older MBP) are having no difficulty.  The problem simply started yesterday morning and I have tried several suggested fixes on this site and others (removing/reinstalling network options, resetting PRAM, and repairing disk permissions) without success.
Thanks all.

  • Wifi network visibility by the Ipad2

My Ipad2 doesn't see a wifi network that is perfectly visible by my computer. Conversly the Ipad display a wifi network which is neither seen by my computer nor by my Ipodtouch. Can someone help me understand the origin of this problem. Thank you

I would update the firmware of the wifi router to solve incompatability issues it means very little that other devices dont have problems

  • Solaris 11 host no longer sees a ZyXEL wifi network router

This issue is on a Toshiba Tecra M10 running Oracle Solaris 11.1 SRU 0.5.11-0.175.1.0.0.24.2
The once functional wifi network iwh0 (net1) no longer sees a ZyXEL NBG-416N wifi network router.
The e1000g (net0) can connect to the router when direct connected via TP ethernet cable from the laptop wired ethernet port.
There are other wifi networks visible from iwh0 (net1) when the command 'dladm scan-wifi' is run.
When attempting to connect with the 'dladm connect-wifi' command (I know the command is good I recall it from the shell command history) .. I get "no wifi networks with the specified criteria are available"
The laptop is able to connect to one of the other wifi routers over this interface however not my own router (which appears to no longer be visible from Solaris 11.1).
I am able to connect to it from an HTC mobile phone and a Windows 7 laptop.
Removed wifi cache file /system/volatile/dladm/network-datalink-management:default.cache.0 and rebooted. No joy.
If I boot from the Solaris 11 DVD, I can still not see the expected wifi router.
At this point I am suspecting the ethernet address of the M10 iwh0 (net1) interface.
'dladm show-phys -m' lists the interface ethernet mac addresses (even if not plumbed).
Connected to the router (from alternative system, over wifi) and looked around. Noted the logs had a messages "possible DNS-rebind attack detected: a-0.19-*8d9zff4tq7njzcj.avts.mcafee.com" that seemed to start about the time I lost sight of the network? Can no longer say for sure as I restarted the router and it seems to have lost those log entries.
Contacted the ISP who provided the ADSL/router for use with their FTTC service offering - they are not aware of any 'protection mechanism' on the router that might mask a misbehaving mac-address.
Tried changing the mac-address on the iwh interface with 'dladm set-linkprop -p mac-address=06:05:04:03:02 net1' and ran 'dladm scan-wifi' without success (then reboot with 'init 5') resets to original but after reconfiguring again -still not available.
If anyone can help .. perhaps having seen something like this and solved it .. or even simply help with better troubleshooting, please advise.

Okay .. I changed the routers 'channel selection' from 13 to 7 and this wifi router network ESSID is again visible to the Solaris 11 instance. I expect the other OS's cater for this a little more elegantly?
    ~ # dladm show-linkprop net1 | grep -i channel
    net1     channel             r-   7            --           --
    ~ #
It seems the channel property wont be visible unless there is a connection (I suppose obviously).
I expect another router has moved into the radius close enough to interfere?

  • Time Capsule not visible on WiFi network

Tried to set up a new Time Capsule via the airport utility but it will not identify a Wifi Network to connect to (objective is to enlarge the network, rather than to establish a new network). There is already an older model of time capsule connected to the same router via WiFi to enlarge the network and it works well.
Is it  really the only solution to connect the time capsule to the router via Cable and establish the connection like that? (That would be exactly what we do not want - another cable) Multiple resets to factory settings did not solve the issue. Anyone there to help? Thanks

There is already an older model of time capsule connected to the same router via WiFi to enlarge the network and it works well.
Connected by ethernet or by wireless?? What router is it connected to?
An apple router can only extend wireless of another apple router and only once.. ie you can have a main base and one repeater.. you cannot repeat twice.
You can use EOP (homeplug) adapters if ethernet is not suitable.

  • Does not automatically connect to recently used WIFI networks

Recently purchased 13" Macbook Air, with Lion installed. All's well, except upon start-up or waking up from sleep mode, it does not automatically re-connect to the WIFI network it was just connected to. Instead, I'd have to manually find the network to select it. (Incidentally, some of my friends who also use Macbook Air and Macbook Pros have also experienced this periodically.)
Another strange thing, is that there is this one particular WIFI network at work, that I've successfully connected to before, upon return the next time, all of a sudden, the network isn't even visible anymore. My OS5 iPhone sees it fine, and never has a problem, but repeatedly this happens. Other people at work who also use Macbook Pro and Macbook Air also encounter the same problem. People who are using PCs don't have the same experience.
Is there a setting somewhere? I have "Remember networks this computer has joined" checked, and I see the particular network listed as ones I've joined.
Any light that can be shed on this would be greatly appreciated. It's very frustrating, especially Airs don't have a built-in ethernet port. I hate using the adapter, it steals one of my USB slots.
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi sashton,
When troubleshooting Wi-Fi connectivity issues, I find the following resource has the most relevant information:
Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues in OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
Furthermore, you may want to avoid giving your network a common name. While the following article (and excerpt) refer to iOS devices, the same applies for your Mac:
Avoid giving your wireless network a common name (SSID)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4450
If you were to give your wireless network a common name (SSID), users of your network who use iOS devices [sic] and are away from your network would run the risk of joining a different network with the same name. Having joined the unexpected network, they would be exposed to potential data theft.
Because of this security issue, Apple maintains a list of common or ambiguous SSIDs, including the default SSID for many commercially available access points, as well as the SSIDs "wireless" and "default". If your network's name is on the list, any iOS device [sic] that joins the network stores the access point's BSSID and associates it with the network's SSID. Subsequently, it will only auto-join the network if the access point's BSSID matches the information the device has stored. This avoids joining a different network with the same name.
Therefore, you may want to refer to the following article when configuring your Wi-Fi router:
iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

  • How to block wifi network in iOS8.2 on iPad

In previous versions of iOS, there was a button "Ignore Network" on the info icon for a network.
That button seems to have disappeared in iOS8.2.
How does one block, ignore, or delete other networks on an iPad.
    Thanks,
    Nick

I think Apple removed this. The 'forget network' option was in iOS 6 IIRC. It was pretty useless since the network had to be visible to forget it - if it is visible the device would connect to it anyway.
The only option I see now is to use 'Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings'. That will remove all known wifi networks but be aware it may also reset any custom carrier settings too.
Bear in mind that known networks can be synced via iCloud, so you may not resolve anything if other iOS devices know the same networks.

  • Need to add hidden WiFi Networks manually from code in Windows Phone8

    Hi Guys,
Dear tech team experts can you please help me over this?
I am working on a automation part in Windows Phone 8 applications. I want to verify my WiFi settings through an automated script. What I actually supposed to do was , I have to add a hidden WiFi network through code  C# and  enter the credentials
and then have to verify the connected network. Is there any provisions available in Windows Phone 8 to do such a task. In Android we have implemented the same scenario as I explained above. Want to know whether I can achieve my scenario in windows phone also.
    Regards,
    Ganesan S

Hi Mawy - WP8 does not have any APIs that allow the app to connect to WiFi, whether visible or hidden.  These operations are reserved specifically for the OS and the user must interact with the phone.

  • IPod touch won't connect to an open WiFi Network

I am trying to help my cousin with a issue on his brand new iPod touch 32 GB. He was having issues with 3.0 and is now having the same issues with 4.0. The issue is that when you go to the network settings to connect to a open network it will show the correct network and let you seem like it is connecting, but the WiFi symbol will not show up in the top right of the iPod. If you go back to the WiFi setting the name of the network will change at random to strange names, for example the name of the network is Netgear and it will change to Nutgear and a bunch of other strange names. It has also done this with open WiFi networks at Starbucks, B&N etc. My iPhone works perfectly on the same networks. I have tried everything listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398 Any ideas?

Welcome to Apple Discussions. In the future, you might want to post questions like you have as a new post as we like discussions to stay on topic where possible. However, having said all of that, I'm happy to try and help you fix your problem.
WiFi problems are not the easiest to fix as there is usually a lot of information missing in user questions - like router make/model, encryption used, whether or not you have chosen to hide your network name, etc. So, instead of a specific answer, I'm going to give you the general instructions that fix most WiFi problems.
    1. Reboot your router (just unplug the power cord)
    2. Reset the touch network settings - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    3. When the touch restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
If you continue to have problems, you can find more tips here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
If you need to repost, please start a new discussion and I would go further an suggest you do it in the iPod touch > Using iPod touch group where it will get more visibility.

  • Losing (closed) wifi network informations after suspend/resume.

I get some trouble with MacOS X airport support and suspend/resume on my WIFI network (non airport access point based : I have a linksys wifi/modem/router).
For security reason my network is closed (no ESSID diffusion). Each time my computer (MacBookPro3,1 - Mac OS X 10.5.1 up-to-date) resume from suspend I am no more connected, and worse the system do not use anymore the information I registered in the network settings apps (ESSID, WEP key) : the network is no more visible, and even if the network is remembered in the list of previously visited network, I am forced to retype everything (ESSID, WEP key) to be able to be connected again.
When I change my network setup to get an open one (with ESSID diffusion) then it works : I can suspend the computer, resume it an I am connected again without doing anything.
This is very annoying, since I am not the main user of the computer (main one do not understand anything about network settings) and that I need my network to be closed (no ESSID diffusion).
With other 4 others different computers (PowerBook Titanium using Max OS X 10.4 / PowerBook Aluminium using Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4 / MacBookPro using Linux / Dell Latitude using Linux) everything work as expected.
Any ideas where I can find information on how to fix this (stupid) behavior ?
BTW, I tested the following with my base configured for 802.11b, 802.11g and automatic detection.

I am not offering a fix other than to say don't use a closed network.
I asy this because having a closed network does not offer any network security. A hacker can easily see your network using tools that anyone can download from the internet. Having a closed network can interfere with the efficiency of all wifi network in your area. As your neighbours may be unaware of your network and start broadcasting on the same channel as you. Then you would both have issues.
WEP encrypton offers no real security either as this too can be cracked sometimes in minutes using tools that anyone can download from the internet.
The only network security you should consider using is WPA/WPA2.

  • My airport can't find my wifi network.

I have a Gateway 2wire that I came with AT&T Uverse.  It has been problematic at times, but now my iMac can't find the wifi network at all.  It doesn't make sense to me. Sometimes it works great, sometimes it keep dropping off.  Me and my wife both have iPhones, my iPhone found the network no problem, hers could not, so I entered it manually and that worked.  Then my iMac was working great on it, then all of a sudden, for no apparent reason, it stopped working and now it can't find the wifi network.  I can't even enter it manually.  The iPhones see it and work fine, my Wii see's it and works fine.  But my new blu-ray can't see it either. So why are some of my devices working fine with it, and others can't even find it.  I have worked with AT&T a few time and they keep saying it's not the 2wire.  I don't believe them, I have read to many reports of similar problems with the 2wire with AT&T.  Is there anything I can do to solve this.  I keep thinking I wan't to get an Airport Extreme and connect it to the 2wire, I have read that it is possible and will work, but I wan't to know why this router is visible to some devices and not others. Does anyone understand this.

I'm not sure what you mean. You can't find the express to set it up.. or you can't find the network created by the express?

It's possible your imac is too far from the base station to see the 5G network. It should show up in the list when you click on the Airport icon on the menu bar. If it doesn't you might try moving it closer to see if it becomes visible then. Make certain that you don't have the base station set to "create a closed network" which might require you to manually enter the network name and password the first time. If the computer is going to be too far from the base station to get an acceptable signal on the 5G network you may just have to let it connect to the 2.4. You can still set that to be an N only network so theoretically you should see faster connection speeds.
    hi,
my imac is 5cm far from aebs. he is near by the imac, and still i cant identify the 5ghz from my imac like i see her in the atv2.
the atv2 is 3 room far from the aebs and the signal is strange.

I only have the US version of the AEBSn to20 compare and it doesn't show an Israel option either. I do know that Wi-Fi only operates in the narrow MHz band in Israel and that channels run from 34 - 64. The upper channels (100 - 165) are not allowed. Unfortunately (for me) none of the country choices would provide you with the correct range of channels for your country.
Did you buy the AEBSn in Israel?
no, there is no such one to sale on israel, i have to ebuy him.
i get to the manual radio channel select and picked up a channel between 36-64 5ghz its ok?

  • Preferred Wifi Network Order

Is there any way to order known wifi networks, so that the iPhone will connect to a specific network when it is available, regardless of what other networks are visible?
I have a wireless router set up in my office. My office network is faster and more reliable than the campus network. However, the SSID of the campus network is broadcast in a much larger radius. This results in the following situation: In my office, I connect to my office network. As I leave the campus, my iPhone loses the signal for my office network and automatically connects to the campus network. When I return the next day, my iPhone automatically connects to the campus network, the last known network to which it was connected. However, as I approach my office, the iPhone will not automatically connect to my office network, since it is already connected to the campus network. Consequently, in order to get the better connection, I have to manually connect to my office network whenever I return.
I would like to configure my iPhone to automatically connect to my office network when available, despite the fact that it may already be connected to the campus network. Is this possible, or must I manually set the network every time I return to my office?

    wjosten wrote:
Question, do you ever use the campus network?
...If more than one previously used network is in range, iPhone joins the one last used.
And that's the crux of the issue. It sounds like myself and the OP have a small range network that we want to be the preferred network, however when we leave the range of that network we still want to be able to use the larger range network.
Clearly the OS itself hasn't been programmed with the 'Network Preference' functionality built in, so I was wondering if anyone was aware of an app that could essentially hijack the WiFi functionality and provide this service?

    Hi Peter,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I understand that you are trying to use the new HP AiO Remote app for Windows phones to print to your Photosmart 7150 printer.
The Photosmart 7150 printer only supports USB connectivity, I have include the Photosmart 7150 Printer Specifications for reference.  To be able to use the HP AiO Remote app the printer needs to be connected to a wireless network.
If you accidentally typed the incorrect printer model, please let me know which make/model/product number of HP printer that you have. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

I used to be able to connect my iPad to my house wifi network walking all over my house then one day it stopped.  When i tried to connect to my network I would get an message saying "Unable to Join network".  I found that if i was within 5 feet of my router it would connect and work just fine.  At the same time I tried it at multiple other networks that I have before (girlfriends and other friends houses) and could not connect with same issue.  Only place I can connect is my work wifi.
Can connect to wifi with my iPhone with no issues

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
Try This - Renew IP Address:
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
