  • Cannot use wifi after updating to 6.1.2 on my iPhone 4S WIFI solutions proposed by Apple are not working

    Dear Apple.
I was really happy with my iphone4s, IOS 6.0, great product amazing quality and posibilities BUT.......
I updated from IOS 6.0 to 6.1.1. and the WIFI nightmare started.
I waited for a new update to fix the WIFI problems and I updated my iphone 4s from 6.1.1. to 6.1.2. in order to solve these problems related with WIFI connections.
But IOS 6.1.2. is even worst:
    - WIFI is not working at all. So I cannot download apps greater than 50MB.
    - Battery life is shorter than ever.
    - 3G goes in and out every minute.
    - When you operate the iphone4s you can realize that is hotter than before.
These problems are unnaceptable and inconsistent with a high quality standard product.
You can read a lot of blogs, I am not the only one.
Please give us a solution as soon as possible.
    Best Regards

Try Settings App > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. See if better. If still problem, Restore iPhone with iTunes on your computer. See if better. If still problem, and if there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation or set up Service and take or send iPhone to Apple for resolution.

    Thank you for your support.
My router is a TL-WR740N, and I think it has only a 2.4-2.4835GHz antenna.
So it seems that I have to keep on trying.
I also tryed to rename the router, still nothing.
    Thank you anyway.

  • Intel 5300/5350 Intermittent Wifi Solution - Don't use WEP security!

I recently purchased a Lenovo T400 with the Intel 5350 wireless card (same as the 5300 but with WiMax), and, like a lot of other people on this forum, I could not get the wifi to consistently work. I spent several frustrating days searching these forums and trying pretty much every solution offered (XP 32 bit, Vista 32 bit, Vista 64 bit, w/ & w/out Access Connections, w/ & w/out Intel software, Lenovo drivers vs. Intel drivers, etc.). However, in the end, the solution was totally unrelated.
What I found was that when I was using WEP security on my Linksys WRT54G router (v5 w/ the latest firmware) I could not get wifi to work consistently. In most cases it was hard to get it to work at all. In other cases it might work after a reboot for a few minutes, then stop working again. However, as soon as I either turned off security or changed it to WPA2-Personal, wifi worked like a charm.
I was originally thinking about returning the laptop, since no wifi makes it pretty much unusable. But, with this finding I think I will keep it. Since it is obviously a driver issue, I'm going to assume there will be a driver update in the near future to fix the problem.
Hope this helps some of you who are having the same problems!

That is a fascinating solution to the intermittent mess the Intel cards can go into. Never would have thought secrurity and encryption would affect the performance.
For what it's worth, go into the properties of the wireless card in Device Manager. Go to the Advanced Tab. Set "Roaming Aggressiveness" slider to the lowest, "Power Managment" to lowest, and "Transmit Power" to highest. These were solutiosn that I've run across and fixed the problem for me (I have the regular 5300, hope you will get to use and enjoy WiMax).

  • Choosing between the diferent wifi solutions

    Hello!
In a couple of months i'll be living in my own home, with a new internet configuration. I'll have a cable-modem and a wifi router. Nowadays, althought my laptop have wifi, is always off, as the router is only "wired". As i have no experience with wifi, i'll like ask you for advice.
The 30% of times, i'll be connected to the router with wire. The 65% of times, via wifi, with the normal security configuration to my router. The last 5%, will be wifi connections on open spots out of my home.
So, this is how i'd like to act:
If i'm with wire, the wifi switch will be off. This is the actual situation. No problem. At home, without wire, with wifi on, the laptop would connect automatically without any promps to my "secure home wifi network". Out of home, i'd have a list of wifi spots, select the one i want, and connect. Back at home, as my wifi is back, would connect automatically without any promps, and "forget" the networks i connected to.
With the previous information, which would be the best solution?
I don't mind having to config all what i want via console, but chosing the wifi out of home should be made with a grafical app. By now, gnome, kde... it's the same.
    Thanks!

AFAIK networkmanager remember the networks you connected to and connect to them automatically when they are available.
I think that's cool, I tried it, but its frontend brings in a lot of kde or gnome dependencies, so I installed wicd instead (which the wiki stated was quite dependency free)
edit: it looks like the wiki discourages using networkmanager and suggest using network_profiles

  • Outdoor WiFi solution for beach hotel

     Hello everyone,
I was hoping some of you could give a hand with this:
I'm designing a wireless solution for a beach hotel and I want to be sure we will be using the best AP <-> WLC combination and that my design works for indoor AP's too.
Checking each models, I made a little diagram attached in order for you to please advise what would be the best combination to use.
Any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thanks!

I was looking for a solution to enable hotel customers to login through some sort of "special offerings website" (like in airports) using their room number or initials and then grant access to customers while monitoring and limiting their available bandwidth.
I thought the best recommendation was to have a Cisco device do that, so I was thinking about using the Cisco NAC Guest Server "appliance" but now that you mention Purple-WiFi & Nomadix, any other manufacturer recommendation would be great.
This hotel has aprox. 150 rooms, so I guess access to 500 hosts would be more than enough.

  • USB WIFI solution for iBook G4 with broken AirPort

Hi folks, I posted earlier about my iBook G4 which just recently began having the dreaded AirPort related kernel panics. The machine works fine with AirPort disabled, and now I'm looking for a USB wifi stick (dongle) that will keep me wireless.
There are tons of posts on the web regarding different wifi sticks that kind of work, but I'm looking for definitive references on which are the best. I'm mostly concerned with flaky drivers. Some time ago, I tried out the D-Link G-122 with correct chipset and Ralinktech drivers. The drivers were horrible and the D-Link eventually just burned out.
Since then there have been several more USB sticks that claim to work in 10.4.x, but I see several of them use the same drivers. WHERE IS THE SOLUTION TO MAKE ALL THESE BUSTED IBOOKS WIRELESS AGAIN??? And I don't mean a new logic board! It sounds like most folks say to go with an ethernet bridge, but that's not what I'm looking for, as I'm tethered to an ethernet cable already.
Here are a few USB Wifi sticks I've come across recently. Can anyone comment on any of these and success with 10.4.x or iBooks?

If it is sold by Macsales, chances are it will work.
But I will also say this as a qualifier. If your iBook G4 predates the introduction of USB 2 on the iBook G4, your best speed on a USB WiFi is going to be 12 Mbps. And that's if no other USB devices are hooked up to it, because it has one USB bus. You are much better off getting the airport card inside the iBook replaced by an authorized dealer. Anything that will cause damage to internal components of the machine likely will affect more than one part of the machine, and you just happen to be lucky that it hasn't caused further problems for you. It does not pay to have a machine limping. Get the entire machine fixed.

  • WiFi solution using Telstra wireless USB modem

Having perused the many discussions concerning difficulties with wireless networking using OS X Lion, I now have little confidence as a new Mac owner in establishing such an internet connection unaided .
After much technical support, I come to realise that my current telstra USB modem (sierra wireless compass 885) being used with a pc laptop is not directly compatible with OS X 10.7.3.
My basic need is to have an internet connection on my Macbook and an ideal situation of being able to network with pc, Apple TV and possibly a backup device such as time capsule.
So, I figure my options are to either purchase a new compatible USB modem and router,  or purchase a wifi router that will allow me to connect my Mac to the internet wirelessly through the existing pc connection.
Please advise on the viability of these options, insofar as the likelihood of establishing and maintaining such a network without the need for a fixed line ethernet ADSL type connection. Further to this, I would appreciate any recommendations for suitable modems and routers.

Do you need a modem because you have a dial-up ISP? There are several USB modems that work with Macs listed on Amazon. Just search for USB modems and you'll be able to find customer comments suggesting ones that work with Macs. There is a US Robotics on Amazon with reviews that say that it works with Lion -
    http://www.amazon.com/USRobotics-USR5637-FaxModem-Windows-Linux/dp/B0013FDLM0/re f=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335769698&sr=8-1
If you have a DSL or cable modem, I would suggest in investing in a good wireless router so that you could connect all your computers. For Time Machine, I don't use the wireless drives that Apple sells, I just use a G-Drive Firewire drive. There are a lot of good outers on the market - I have a LinkSys (Cisco) that I bought a couple of years ago that is a great little 4-port router. Try http://home.cisco.com/en-us/home for a selection of good routers (others here may have other brand preferences, but Cisco has always worked well for me with minimum set-up required).
More specifics would help - what Mac you have, if your ISP is dial-up, DSL or cable, etc.

  • Possible Wifi Solution

K - had this **** thing 2 days - driving me nuts w/ the wifi drops (and can't connect to my other network... another issue not yet resolved).
But, changed it to a static IP address - that seems to have helped a lot.
And.... here is the vodoo entry, after reading where the wifi antenna is, rotated it so that the home button is at my left hand instead of my right. It has actually held 3 bars for 30 minutes (the other position, the bars flip from 3 to 1 and back again constantly).
This hasn't been proven yet by any means. But I was actually able to open the apple tech support web page on the ipad for the first time, so maybe there is hope.

Well - my experiment did improve things quite a bit, but I have had it drop the connection several times since then - once when it forgot the network password.
I tried setting the WPA2 on the router. It appears to have sped up the thing, but not made the network connection any more stable.
I'm trading my ipad in today at the apple store. I really doubt that the new one will behave any differently, but I'll give it a try before I give up and get a refund.

  • IOS 6 wifi solution for me

I experienced the same wifi problems after updating to iOS.  It would appear to connect and then an Apple page would appear and wireless would appear to not be working.
I tried to FORGET the network and join again, but the same issue came up again and again. Here is what worked for me
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Select GENERAL
    3. Scroll way down to RESET
    4. Select RESET NETWORK SETTINGS
    iPad will reboot.
Next, go to settings, wireless, select your network and it allowed me to browse/go to AppStore as normal.
Hope it works for you too!

    Hi,
This worked for me as well. Much better battery life as stated in the keynote. Setup as new is the way to go.

  • Macbook Pro- weak wifi solutions ?

New Macbook Pro weak wifi ??
I am also experiencing weak & varied signal strength on my Macbook Pro. I recently switched from a Macbook & have noticed side by side that the macbook has better internet connectivity & signal strength. I have thought about buying the Apple Time Capsule Router ( & back-up) or Airport Extreme. I am curious if I can expect better signal strength & distance.... This is really annoying as I loved my Macbook for many reasons & have handed it off to one of my sons.. Any info about the signal strength & distance I may expect to get ??

    Hi
I've had a similar problem - see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7278377#7278377 . Things continued to get worse, so that sometimes I was losing the signal for several hours at a time: meanwhile my nearby G4 iMac continued to connect with never a hiccup.
In the end replacing the original airport card with a Sonnet Aria Extreme N Mini PCIe 802.11n card has (touching wood, crossing fingers and taking all similar necessary precautions) completely sorted it. No other changes - I'm still using the 11g base station. However, mine was a first revision MBP with an 802.11g card: I guess yours has an 11n card already.

  • Wifi solution for outdoor (garden, patio)?

I have an Airport Extreme and a number of Airport Express across my house, but none penetrates the thick walls and windows with mosquito nets to reach my garden.
How can I bring my wifi network outdoor? Shall I bring an Ethernet cable through my outside wall and put an Airport Express inside a weather proof plexiglass housing on my patio?
    Thanks!

Agree with the external mount, but before you drill, do some research on Faraday's Cage principle. Your enclosure could do more harm than good. Let alone that AEX is not rated for outdoors. Condensation will get inside eventually.
    May I suggest:
1/ mount the AEX close to a window pointing to your garden.
2/ Using Airport Admin Utility, crank up the power of your routers to maximum.
4/ Get a Cisco or Netgear router which supports external antenna and WPA2, let it join your existing network, keep the router inside and run a cable for an omnidirectional outdoor antenna on a wall facing your garden - stick it under the eave to keep away from elements. Antenna will be less susceptible to elements than the router.
If you have the latest AExtreme, not sure how the other routers support eh 5GHz channels....
5/ Or mount the antenna indoors - right on the window sill on the inside, facing the garden.
6/ Keep them away from DECT cordless phones or microwaves
Pity that Apple AirPorts don't support external antennas. I have both and love them. AEX are both in bridge mode to extend my network around the house. But I don't have masonry walls and a huge 15ft patio door.

  • WiFi stuck after X61s running Windows 8.1 resumes following Sleep/Hibernate

    Hi All,
WiFi in my X61s running Windows 8.1 gets stuck when I take the laptop out of Sleep or Hibernate. Nothing but reboot helps recover it: Windows troubleshooter, disable/enable WiFi connection, disable/enable WiFi adapter using Fn+F5, turn off/on all wireless adapters using the switch at the front. Which particular logs/debugs/etc would help troubleshoot this issue?
    Many thanks in advance,

    Hi Hemanth,
Thanks for your reply. While testing with the setting you suggested is still underway (looking very promising so far!) do I get it right that the laptop now keeps WiFi up at all times incl when asleep? If so it's a good workaround but I'd still like to drill down to the root cause of the problem and hopefully obtain a real fix for it, so that (with the checkbox checked) WiFi is turned off upon my laptop entering standby/hibernate and resumes properly upon taking the laptop out of standby/hibernate.
Update: WiFi card make/model = Intel 4965AGN, driver = 13.3.0.137 by Microsoft dated August 15th, 2010. The following thread tells me Intel no longer support this card and in particular have never released Windows 8 drivers for it, so they're advising to use basic MS ones:
    https://communities.intel.com/thread/32614
Meanwhile here's how someone managed to fix their issues with this card:
"I've tried both this and the disable N wifi solution above but none works. But then I uninstall the driver and rescan hardware, now the wifi is running perfectly without uncheck power-off option and without rolling back to slow b/g wifi"
Will try the same when I'm at my parents next, which is where that laptop is. It'd be great if it fixed my issue too but if not I'll stick to the w/a you supplied.
    Many thanks,
    Dmitriy
