No windows are showing up! (CS5.1 Extended)

Photoshop, as an application, opens fine. The toolbars and sidebars all show up, but when I open a file (i.e. a JPEG, PSD, etc) the layor shows up on the sidebar, but the window of the image never opens. To add to the issue, there is no error message, thus Tech Support was not useful at all. Please help!

I can’t see my images and only get a black screen (or strange pattern).

How can I detect if ANY popup windows are showing

I have implemented a couple of JInternalFrames which can be closed by pressing the escape key, however, inside these frames different parts of the code will sometimes show JPopupMenus and they too should be closable by pressing the escape key.
Thus, I need to close my frames when the user presses escape but only if no popups are showing. For instance, if the user right clicks in my frame to show a popup, then the first time he or she presses escape the popup will close, and the second time the frame itself will close.
What I am looking for is a generic approach to this, that would make it possible for me to detect if any popup windows are currently visible and only if that is not the case I will proceed and close the frame.
I have been giving this some thought but I have not yet come up with a good solution to this. Has anyone implemented something like this or does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a preferred way to get all popups of a frame, dialog, window or the like?

I also ran into this issue. The previous post can be solved easily by the new event structures, but I need to check if a panel is the frontmost in windows as well.
The FP.Is frontmost property returns if a panel is the frontmost Vi within Labview but not if Labview is the frontmost window in windows.
I ran into this as I am making some stuff to use the scollwheel.
As an example I have added two Vi's. Just load & run these, as long as Labview is active this works. But I would like to have something that switches the lights off when I select another Windows application.
I (think I) cannot use the USER32.dll API as I reconstruct a reference to the 'owner vi' using a control reference.
Anyone has some experience with this??

In Illustrator CS4 in Mac OS 10.6.2 my windows are blank

When I open Illustrator CS4, and open a new or older document, the windows (action, brushes, layers, pathfinder, etc) are blank. If I close and reopen Illustrator I have a 50/50 chance that they will appear. At times I have had to close and reopen numerous times. Any thoughts? No new hardware or programs added since installation of CS4.(I already uninstalled and re-installed)

Dumping preferences was done. Restarting as you suggested has opened another symptom - I do not get a dialog box and most plugins don't load. I can use the program but with limited features. I have restarted normally for twenty times in a row and the windows are showing. So we shall see.
Hopefully it will behave itself.

Photoshop CS5.1 Extended: Could not complete your request because there are too many Files Open

I saved a file last night and now this morning I get an error message stating: "Photoshop CS5.1 Extended: Could not complete your request because there are too many Files Open. Try closing some windows and try again.". I've rebooted the system and made sure Photoshop was the only program running and that there were no other files open prior to trying to open my file. I increased Photoshops ram usage, checked the OpenGL settings, 3D and VRAM settings, cleared my temp files and am at a loss for opening this file.
System Specs:
Win 7 64
6 core I7 processor
32gb Ram
3GB VRAM
600gb free space on 7200 rpm drive
File specs:
1 3D object replicated maybe 5 times (yes, I should have rasterized them, and will do that to 4 of them if I get the file open)
Maybe 8 textures
Not sure how many total layers.
Is there anyway to get Photoshop to reopen this file?

No, more VRAM is useless. I had the same thought as you so I tried with a friend's computer with 3GB of VRAM for 8GB RAM (mine has 1GB VRAM for 16GB RAM). Still got the same error message. Sorry guys but our files are lost until Adobe fix the error in Photoshop code. I hope in the future they will find a way to either fix this error or give a clear limitation, it is really a shame such a dangerous problem exists and persists for more than 3 photoshop gen.
Still you may be able to have at least a flat image of your latest file by trying to open the file as smart object. I started my work over by doing that. Not a lot but better than nothing.
However for my new file I am trying something different : Each time I think a 3D file is final, I do not rasterize it but make it into a smart object and save the new smart object into a single separated .psd file. If any change is needed I can still edit all of my 3D objects by opening them separately. So far it works, the global file is lighter with few to no 3D objects inside but I will not say it is a 100% no-risk method yet.
Last advice I can give everyone : Before closing the file you are working on, save it as a copy (File / Save as... and check 'As copy' in the options below) then with your main file still open, try to open the copy. You may need a lot of memory if your file is heavy but still if the dreaded error message appears when you try to open the copy then remove or rasterize some 3D objects in your main one. Save again as copy and try to open the copy until you do not get the message anymore.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

The ID Program folder will be relevant to your OS...
I took a shot and right clicked on my Scripts Samples, choose reveal in Explorer and opened up the ID Program folder.
As shown, there is a Fonts folder.
Drag/Copy/Paste fonts to this folder.

Firefox is running, but no windows/tabs are showing - what gives?

Firefox12, iMac i5, Snow Leopard 10.6.8, 16GB RAM, 2TB drive.
Firefox worked fine this morning. This afternoon, when it fires up, no windows/tabs show up ... just the menu.
I know that the windows are working - a video link that I clicked on in my Mail begins playing. I can hear it. Just can't see anything.
I've tried opening a new window - nothing happens. I've tried restarting after turning off all Add-ins. Same result.
Tried opening the FF prefs but nothing shows up. All I can see is the FF menu - nothing else shows up.
I've tried the History menu - to restore all tabs etc etc ... no difference. I can only see the menu.
This is so weird and I have no idea what to do.
Any suggestions/ideas??

That is weird. Do you maybe have a window minimized to the dock or in another space? Have you tried restarting the whole computer?

We have seach PG, summary and Detail PG.
When we clicked on summary page link, detail page is opening in popup window.
JavaScript is used for this and toolbar=no,menubar=no used .
Still menus are showing below Oracle Branding image.
How to hide these?

Updated and now tool windows are not showing up.

I just updated my Muse and the pop open tool windows are not showing up. For example when I click on some text and then click on the list of typfaces the typeface window shutters and won't show up. This window keeps blinking from gray to black. I have uninstalled and re-installed the program. Also the tool window on the left side also cuts off the all of the tools. Also on my planning mode the A-master isn't showing up and I can't scroll to get to the A-master.

The A-master not showing up at the bottom of the screen sounds like you must be running on a Windows machine with your screen resolution set to 125%. Try setting your resolution back to 100% (or if need be increase to 150%) and see if that helps.
We don't support UI scaling in this release, but at the 125% setting Windows tries to scale us anyway and the result is not usable. We're working on a fix to avoid being scaled in this case.
If it still behaves badly at 100%, would it be possible to post a screenshot?

There could be a 32 bit vs 64 bit issues-is the old machine a 32 bit? and what is the new machine as far as 32/64 bit. I am not sure now if CS5 has in the help menu of the PS app the selection to update within PS if so that might work. My 27 inch imac has just started acting weird, the thumbnail images and folder on the desktop have disappeared although the titles are still visible. When I open a programme the programme windows are all black and the drop down menus just show random

When I tried to open the web browser the browser flashed black and white at start up, then all the applications when i open a new window are completely black, I am unable to view the drop down menus as the come out as random pixels. This happens to all new applications i have been able to open. The document window opens as plain white but if you click on it it opens a document even though you cant see any thumb nails. Some of the documents are open as normal images/files. Having been a mac user for 10 years i have never seen anything like this before, any ideas or suggestions

I have started running a virus check.
There are no viruses for OSX. Uninstall the software, repair permissions and restart your computer. Especially if it's Norton's. It's known to cause problems.
