No WLAN in standby (N95)

I got my N95 a few weeks ago and my network provider is from 3. I have noticed that my phone has not got the WLAN shortcut option under the calender in standby mode. But my sister has just got her N95 on T-mobile and she has got the WLAN option in standby.
My active standby is turned on and we both have the latest firmware (12.0.013).
Not a big deal as i still have wifi but it would be a nice shortcut.
Another small difference, the T-mobile version has an animated menu option which is not in the 3 version.
What is the point?
Just make a standard N95 for all networks !
Please help me **bleep** my phone, T-mobile style !

Errm... Maybe I'm missing something but have you tried accessing the active standby configuration?
The chances are your sister added that shotcut herself because I don't remember having it on my N95, which I also got from T-Mobile.

I know I changed mne pretty quickly to have shortcuts to the Buetooth menu, Google maps and the music player:

  • Hidden WLAN Missing in N95

Web Browser (or any other App) is unable to find the Hidden WLAN whose Access Point has been alaready saved in the settings of N95.
When I turn OFF the broadcasting of the SSID, the WLAN wizard shows Hidden WLAN from which I created an AP and the phone prompted that AP is valid.
Internet Phone didn't list that in WLAN section but gave an option to use Hidden Lan, if I used the option and got connected to my SIP provider, WLAN connected icon came on main screen along with internet phone. And then when I started browsing it showed me an AP of hidden wlan.
But when I disconnected the Internet Phone, browser didnt list that AP.
This seems to be a bug, I am using Nokia N95(01.01) at v12.
Please help me out as I am bound to use office's hidden WLAN which I cannot change to broadcasting.

Are you able to see it in the list of available APs presented by Web Browser or any other Application ?
I can only see it as HIDDEN WLAN in WLAN Wizard, none my Apps pick it up even if its properly saved as AP.

  • Unable to connect to WLAN with Nokia N95

    Hi
Just bought a nokia N95 and I'm unable to connect to the WLAN at my work place. No problem connecting to my home WLAN, and there are no problems connecting my laptop to the workplace WLAN.
I browse for WLANs and select "Start web browsing", the wlan name comes up find and I select it, but after quite some time I get: "Internet: server not found".
I've read the other posts about assigning a static IP, but the sysadms here will kill me if I try that. Is there another way of getting this to work? It can't be true that the N95 is so picky with WLAN configurations?
    Jens

Can you post your question on here with the WLAN AP model name, firmware version and N95 sw version (*#0000#)?

  • Disable wlan on a n95

just been reading that a way to save battery is to only enable wlan when needed, now i thought mine was disabled yet i still get the icon which looks like 4 little boxes, so where would i disable it on a n95?
    thanks for any help

    Hiya,
You must have an application running that is set to use WiFi automatically...
Check the running programs and see if there's something open (press & hold the menu button to see running programs).
If there's nothing there, either reboot the phone, or switch the profile to "Offline" for about 20 seconds, if it asks if you want to connect via WiFi, press no, then switch it back to General or whatever.

after i select the usb drive the screen flashes shortly and I'm back where i can select my boot device.
both USB-devices can be booted from a different laptop.  wtf?

txus wrote:3. Wifi hardblocking: This one was tricky. Apparently the Lenovo implementation of UEFI is faulty, and you can't modify the UEFI boot manager, because if overwrites other parts of the firmware. When you install grub2-efi and install it with grub_efi-install (or similar, don't remember the exact command) you create a new entry in the UEFI boot manager, and same happens if you follow the grub2 wiki page where it uses efibootmgr. Assuming you have followed the wiki and your directories are the same, you will have to boot my copying your "/boot/efi/efi/grub/grub.efi" to "/boot/efi/efi/boot/bootx64.efi". "Source": https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … omments/25
It is great to have confirmation that flashing the bios works using the usb key work around from think wiki. (I'm still not quite sure I follow it, though!)
I don't follow your third point. Are you saying that installing grub2 using efibootmgr, for example, causes the wifi to be hard blocked? If so, does upgrading the bios remove the grub2 entry and does keeping it unblocked require not reinstalling it?
My wifi is OK but my bluetooth is blocked (though it wasn't until a couple of days ago - it mysteriously unblocked itself a while after I'd given up and stayed like that until I had to restore the system from backup...). I don't see how the ubuntu bug you linked to supports the claim that "you can't modify the UEFI boot manager, because it overwrites other parts of the firmware", for example.
I don't deny the UEFI is buggy. It is for sure. I'm just not following the connections between the claims in your third point and the bug report. Copying grub.efi to bootx64.efi will not, I think, affect whether wifi is hard blocked! Copying that file is part of the standard installation procedure for grub2 - I don't think it has anything to do with the bugs in this firmware.

  • N95: missing wlan status line

    Hi
I've seen several references to a wlan status line on the active standby screen. (e.g. here: http://www.knowyourmobile.com/nokian95userguides/2860/connect_your_nokia_n95_to_a_wireless_network.h... ). However, my n95 doesn't have this line, even when I connect to a wlan using the wizard. Any ideas? I have active standby on, and my software version is 21.0.016.
    Thanks

Is your phone a generic, SIM-free phone or did you get it through an operator?

  • Satellite M70-394: WLan does not work after wake up from standby

    Hi all....
I have a problem with my WLan connection and hope one of you may be able to help. Starting my computer from off there isn't a problem with the WIFI connection but if I put the computer into standby by closing the lid and then restarting it from there the light comes on briefly for wi fi but then goes off and the only way I can connect is through a cable.
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

    Hi
I have read in the forum that some similar "Wlan standby" issues were fixed by BIOS update.
I think you should compare the BIOS version on the notebook with the BIOS which is available on the website. If there is a new update try to upgrade it
Be sure that you have chosen the right BIOS.

  • N95 WLAN Connection problems - Orange Livebox (UK)

I am trying to get the N95 to connect to the internet wirelessly through Orange Livebox (UK). I have run the WLAN wizard and the phone has identified it. I have input the WEP key and thats worked fine.......except everytime I try to connect to the net via this method I get a connection error. Has anybody else had WLAN connection problems? Can anybody help?

    hi,
did you press "1" button at the back of the Livebox before pairing ?
what kind of error message do you get on the N95 ?
does it fail the same way when you go through the homescreen "WiFi scanning / Start Web Browsing" or through Tools / WLAN Wizard ?

  • N95 WLAN Browsing Costs and Packet Data

I have recently purchased an N95 and am accessing the Internet via my home Wireless Network provided by Virgin Media instead of using the standard Access Point provided by the Mobile Operator i.e. Orange Internet - by doing this, I assume I would incurr no charges from Orange when surfing the Internet as I am using my own Broadband connection?
A seperate question, but related, how does the Packet Data transfer work? My default Access Point for this is Orange Internet, is this a different thing to the WLAN Access Point i.e. my Home Network or is is related? Does the Packet Data work when I'm connected to the Internet or is it mainly for messaging etc? Should I change the default Access Point for this to my Home Network or leave it as it is i.e. Orange Internet?

    Hi sj219706
In answer to your first question, there are no further costs incurred using WLAN with your Virgin Media Broadband connection.
With regards your second question it depends a little upon how generous your GPRS = General Packet Radio Service data allowance with Orange is.
Can I use Nokia Maps application as an example? Unless disabled an active network connection is needed, this may either be through GPRS(Orange) or WLAN(Virgin Media). If you are within range of your WLAN this is your preferred access point.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • Possible to connect to wlan via PC trough n95?

    Hi there!
Is it possible to connect wlan with my computer using my n95? I can connect to our wlan with my phone but I can't find such a option on pc suite.
    Thank you.

The only option on pcsuite is to connect to your providers 3g/gsm network and use your device as modem. Using your device as an WIFI usb dongle is not possible.

  • N95-Continuous "Create WLAN connection in offline ...

    Hello All,
I tried using the search and could not find anything on this.
Up until now, i haven't had a problem like this. Upon turning on the phone, i keep getting the "Create WLAN connection in offline mode?" prompt. When i hit "NO", my phone resets! When i hit "YES", sometimes nothing happens and other times, the phone freezes up and then resets.
I have WLAN scanning set to off by default. I held down the options button to check for any apps running in the background that may be causing this, but none are open. (Just the "Standby" icon is present.)
Again, this just started happening. I have recently installed programs like Fring, Shozu, and TruPhone. I thought either Fring or TruPhone may have been the culprits so i removed them both, but the WLAN prompt --> restart issue is still present.
I am curious if others have experienced this. My phone is still V 10.0.018.
Please help! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!Message Edited by adamyuki on 14-Jul-200704:50 PM

I haven't had this happen to me, and I haven't seen any other reports in the forum.
One thing you can try is to reset the phone using the instructions you can find in this post :
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=4007
However please be aware that doing so will wipe ALL the data from your phone such as information in your calendar, contacts and so on.
In order to save your data you can use the PC Suite application to save and restore the data from your phone - this software can be found here :
    http://www.nokia.com/pcsuite
One thing to note is that as part of these diagnostics, you should NOT restore any backup or install any software on the phone as you could be putting the problem back onto the phone.
If this doesn't work then it's likely you have a hardware fault and you should approach your local Nokia Service Centre to get your phone fixed.
    Hope this helps.
Please let me know how you get on.Message Edited by edwardquan on 16-Jul-200701:16 AM
