No wonder my site is HUGE!

What the **** are iWeb programmers doing?
I've made a small blog that is over 50MB! The reason is every file I use in the blog has the original uploaded too. So, I have a thumbnail for the archive, a larger image for the blog page and the original 3MB original with a link to it on the RSS page.
What's all this about Apple????
I don't want these huge files uploaded. Yes, I could resize them before I use them, but that defeats the point of having a media browser.
Your thoughts please guys?

Well, I think this has been discussed ad nauseum in these forums. I agree that something could be done, and eventually something may. BUT, I think for what it's worth, it does a fine job of making a nice looking site for the "little guy." Isn't that what the iLife suite is all about?
On the other hand, image size has been a problem in the past as well as uploading images multiple times, etc, and I think they have tried to address some of these issues with the latest update. I think eventually they will get around to tweaking it to suit a larger scope of users.
We'll just have to grin and bear it until iWeb progresses beyond a 1.x application...
Just my two cents. My own gripe has been all of the proprietary bonuses you get when publishing to a dot Mac account. It would be nice if these features (slideshows, blog comments, etc) were available to all users...

  • Published site has huge gap between content and footer

So i have just published my site and when i look at it after being published i have a good 2 inch gap between the bottom of the content and the footer.
I have read up on a number of bits and pieces and they say you mauy have a hidden container on the pages, which i totally accepted so i searched and nothing. I then thought it might be a issue with the master page i was using, so checked that. Couldnt see it.
However when i looked through my site and saw the master pages i used i had a mix and some worked and some didnt. Im lost!!!
I launch on Sat and its a bit of a pain. Has anyone had this issue? The preivew looks fine, so im not sure where this gap is coming from.
    Thanks in advance!

When Sticky Footer is checked, the footer will stick to the bottom of the browser window unless the page is taller than the browser window.
Glad that I could be of help.

  • Prometric site is terrible

I can't ever get that site to work when I need it. Try to view a testing center or availability and the site will time out. Try to schedule a test and the site will time out. Come on now! This has been happening since Microsoft switched to them a few years
ago. I would expect those problems to be gone by now but no. Microsoft please go back to Pearson Vue! At least their site is ran professionally and they give you the testing center results sorted by distance to where you live rather than an alphabetical list
that you have to decipher of which ones are closer to you. I know I'm not the only one experiencing these problems with Prometric. Speak up & add to this thread so hopefully someone at MS will take a look into it.

Why doesn’t Prometric recruit another location in New Jersey (near Exit 4 of the NJ Turnpike) for IT professionals to take Microsoft and other certification exams?
Why doesn’t Prometric fix it’s web site?  It’s 2010, and a company that has a monopoly on Microsoft Certification Exams should have a web site that is more reliable than my personal
    web site.
Why do I rant about Prometric?  Let me count the ways.  Better yet, I’ll just recount the exam I took last month.
First, registering for the exam.  For several days (yes, days…), I tried to connect to the Prometric web site.  It timed out when I tried to find the nearest location to take an exam.
Not once, not twice, but I could not connect for several days.  I tried different browsers (IE, Chrome, Firefox), and different locations (client site with huge bandwidth, my home with Comcast BLAST! broadband).  No joy.
Next, I confirmed that there is only one test location near me.  One.  There used to be three in Mount Laurel, and one in Medford that were within fifteen minutes.  Now there is one.  They have two seats, and Microsoft Exams
require you book for three hours, so they can only accommodate four tests per day.  In Mount Laurel we have a HUGE group of engineering, networking, software development, and infrastructure people and companies who employ them.  Northrup Grumman,
Lockheed, Computer Associates, Cisco, NetApp, Continental Resources (where I work!), CSC, and others.
One testing location with two seats.  That’s what we have.  Next closest is Philadelphia.  Minimum time to travel is 45 minutes to Philly.  You can take the PATCO high speed line, or drive.  It’s close, but it
takes a minimum of 45 minutes each way, and that’s assuming you can find a parking spot or take PATCO and walk.  Garage parking in center city Philadelphia can be $20.  The cheapest lot parking is $9, and it’s at 23rd and Arch Streets,
which is 20 blocks from one of the two test centers in Philadelphia.
In my case, the closest available seats were at Delaware County Community College.  It’s a great testing center, but it’s 50 minutes from my house, and the only way to get there is I95 and the Blue Route (or the Delaware County
Parking Lot as I like to call it).
After driving for an hour, and finding the Testing Center, I waited for almost two hours.  Why?  Because the staff had problems logging into the testing computer.  Apparently the account(s) they used were locked out.
TWO HOURS.  I left the house at 9:05 and arrived at the testing center around 10:10.  I sat down to take the exam just before noon.  The exam took 45 minutes, and I spent 15 minutes doing the Survey to ____ about deficiencies with
Prometric.  I then went to my client site to perform billable work.  So, instead of taking an exam locally, with a total elapsed time of 60 minutes, no, let’s assume I stop for coffee, make that 90 minutes, It took me from 9AM until 1PM to
take an exam.  FOUR HOURS.  Due to the location, I was still an hour away from my client’s site (Blue Route had a lane closure and Friday afternoon traffic).  My total elapsed time was five hours from my house to my client site.
OK, Prometric, the ball is in your court.  I left my e-mail and cell phone contact information on your web site, Microsoft eval, and e-mail to your company.  I haven’t heard back yet, and I bet you don’t call.  I’ll
call you on Monday to touch base and post a follow-up here.

  • Dreamweaver template not updating Contribute pages

Currently I'm trialing Dreamweaver (MX) and Contribute
    (3.11), to check
that it's a workable solution for my company, in terms of
    editing and
auditing, but right now I'm having a problem.
I have some templates (.dwt files) that I create in
    Dreamweaver, for
use with Contribute, i.e. I create the template, other people
    create
the content for our site based on the those templates.
The issue is that when I make a change to the template, I
    would expect
the pages created in Contribute to be refreshed to use the
    new
template, but that doesn't appear to be happening. The only
    way I can
get the page to be updated is to edit the page in Contribute,
    go to the
Format menu and choose 'Template Properties', then hit OK
    again to
close this dialog. I then see the page refresh with the new
    template
    changes.
Am I doing something wrong? I would expect, as I mentioned,
    to have all
pages automatically updated when the template is saved, and
    published.
Is there a setting I need to turn on, or a procedure of
    publishing the
template that I need to adhere to?
    any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply Mark. While I think I've found most of
the things you mentioned since my first post, it is useful to get
confirmation of my finding, which appears to be consistent with
    your post.
Here's what I've found, and later, why I'm not really liking
    it:
If I edit the .dwt file in Dreamweaver and try to save it, I'm
prompted to only update those files I have locally that reference
    the template.
I can only update those local files that are checked out,
though the saving process will check them out automatically
If I create a new page using Contribute, I must refresh the
    templates first
    My concerns are:
if I can only update those files I have locally, then do I need
to have the whole remote site stored locally too? My company site
is huge (as it's translated into 6 languages) and has multiple
contributors/editors. It sounds like I will have to download the
entire site before I edit a template, and put it back again
afterwards. Is that right?? it sounds rediculous, so I'm sure I've
    got it wrong.
if I have the files locally, I must check them out before or
while saving the template. However, I then have to check them back
in manually. Again, with potentially 300 to 400 pages per template,
that's a lot of manual checking-in. If the saving process can
automatically check pages out, can it also automatically check them
    in again??
Like you, Mark, I find it strange that Contribute requires a
manual refreshing of templates. I've searched all the options I can
find, but I don't see an auto-refresh templates setting, which
would be sooo useful. As it stands I will have to instruct each
editor/contributor to refresh before they create a new page, and
    pray that they do.
any further advice from Contribute/Dreamweaver users would be
greatly appreciated. How do users with very large website handle
this? Are there any tricks or hints that you can pass on?

  • Any way to turn off errors when updating pages from the template?

I'm using Dreamweaver MX. My site is huge. It's an intranet
spanning dozens of departments. Some of those departments have
subsites that don't fall under the intranet's control, although
they are embedded within our site's folder structure. When I make a
change to the template and update pages, every time I hit one of
those subsites I get tons of errors, from "template not found" to
"unmatched body tag". The errors that pop up each have to be
clicked on before the updating can continue. I get hundreds of
    these.
Is there any way to make errors not pop up while updating
pages from the template? Or even to exclude certain folders from
being checked? (Cloaking doesn't do it.)

    > I'm using Dreamweaver MX. My site is huge.
Both of these are problems, I'm afraid. Combining that with
    templates is
    really trouble.
    > "unmatched body tag".
Errors such as this are definitely caused by errors in your
    page itself.
Can you show me a page where you would get this?
    > Is there any way to make errors not pop up while
    updating pages from the

Valid code will not produce these errors. Unfortunately, the
    only way to
avoid them is to remove any validation hiccups from your
    pages.

  • H-REAP Mode

    Hi,
Does anyone know the limitations or guidance for large H-REAP deployments.
Any Cisco documents on Cisco's recommended quantity of access points per remote site using H-Reap mode in either central or local switching instances, H-group limits, deployment considerations that might sway a design to install local WLC's per remote site and not adopt the centralised approach.
Potentially six remote sites with 60 - 120 H-REAP access points per site.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
    Jay

    Hi,
here is the HREAP Design and Deployment guide which may help you..
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6087/products_tech_note09186a0080736123.shtml
Also.. its a Good design if we dont go more than 50 APs per site.. huge # of hreaps in one location not only means a
significant amount of management traffic overhead, its also not a very good design.
lemme know if this answered your question..

  • Screen Resolution for ALL monitors

IN FLASH MX, I set my screen resolution to 760px (width) x
560px (height). My monitor screen resolution is 1152x864. It looks
fine at that monitor screen resolution. HOWEVER, the website looks
h-u-g-e on monitor screen resolution 1024x768. It looks elongated
    on monitor screen resolution 1280x768.
So I am wondering what is the best screen resolution to set
when in Flash? that will look good on all monitor screen
    resolutions?
    [email protected]

I have four files that show my settings plus another file
that shows the code that comes automatically. Not sure how to
attach the files with this reply.
My monitor setting is 1152x864. My movie setting is 760x560.
I am not sure what you mean by embedding in HTML. I thought
    that came automatically.
My movie might be 760x560 but on a monitor screen 1024x768,
my site is huge because the screen is smaller. And on a monitor
screen 1280x768, my site becomes elongated.
I am working solely in Flash, no Dreamweaver. I thought the
    target to HTML is automatic.
I need to solve the situation of being huge on 1024x768 and
the situation of becoming elongated on 1280x768.

  • Cause of Orphaned Users in Sharepoint

This isn't really a problem. More of a question for best practices.
We have a number of Orphaned users in our SharePoint environment. We have a way to remove orphaned users already. However, we want to prevent so many orphaned users from occurring again.
I know accounts become orphaned when the user has been disabled or removed from Active Directory. Will we always have orphaned accounts or is there a best practice to prevent this.
I ask because we inherited a bad security practice. Many users were given access to sites directly or they were added to multiple SharePoint groups. We are changing this to have Active Directory security groups inside of SharePoint groups. We set all permissions via
Active Directory groups. When a user is disabled or deleted, their user account is removed from the AD group, thus updating the SharePoint permissions. Will this prevent the orphaned account problems.
I think it would but then I wonder about sites or items created by the deleted user. Will this cause the orphaned account in SharePoint. I hope I am making sense. ultimately, i would like to know what exactly causes an account to become orphaned and how
    to best prevent it.
    thanks for any input.
    LSTalbot

Item in sharepoint would not get effected when you remove the users
However make sure that orphan users are normally older then 30 days old as per your AD policy before removing him. because after removing orphan from site incase if you require them in future, it is not possible to add him back with exact same permission.

  • Resultset paging using jsp

I am creating a small search program using jsp. I want to know how can I implement paging using JDBC.
It is very easy using asp. In asp only a specified no. or records can be retrieved from database using combination of PageSize and AbsolutePage properties of Recordset Object.
In jdbc I think there is no such method available. Do I have to use database base specific options to limit the number of records returned like limit keyword in mysql.
Only way I can think of is to create a resultset object and store it in session and then use the absolute() method of the resultset object to go to a specific record and then next(). But still all records have to returned by db and have to be kept in memory and not only specific no. of records (e.g 10 per page).
If I doesn't store the recordset in session then every time this search page is accessed, a new recordset is returned with all records. I then have to determine how many records to skip according to page selected in the query string and then use absolute() method of recordset to go to specific record. And then loop, say ten times to display 10 records. Again when next is clicked same procedure is repeated. Here retrieving all records every time page is accessed is very expensive operation.
In my case even this isn't possible because I am using jdbc odbc bridge, which is not allowing scrollable resultset and jvm is throwing exception in native code. Without scrollable resultset I cannot know how many records are returned. If I try to count using a loop and resultset's next() then I don't have any way to go back to first record again when I actually want to retrieve records to display. Only other way to count the records is executing query twice which isn't very good as records may have been added or deleted between two calls.
    Am I wrong anywhere above?
If not then question is, can this be done efficiently with jdbc without using any database specific keywords?
If yes then which method can be used on a busy web site with huge database.

  • Epson Stylus Photo 820 print workaround for OS 10.3.9?

    Howdy!
I have an Epson Stylus Photo 820 that I'm using under OS 10.3.9- that I can't seem to (directly) print to out of in most applications. It works fine in Safari and Entourage and Quark; but out of Photoshop, Illustrator; InDesign, Word, etc., there's no print option. I have to click Preview first and then am able to print. It doesn't work at all with Adobe Acrobat Pro 7 and one or two other apps. The driver I have installed is version 1.1.0 (I didn't see any updated drivers on the Epson page). The Print Manager sees it in the queue. It's checked and set as the default printer. Yet, I still have the headache.
Anyone else having similar problems? Is there a workaround?
Also- I kind of miss my printing options of my (long gone and MUCH better quality) Epson 740 under OS 9 where I could set the print quality level of the print out. Is there a similar option for the 820 under OS 10.3.9?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks, but the one driver that may have worked (though it states for OS's 10.1.3-10.2.6... there is no 10.3.9 version) has a dead link.

This is really frustrating that Epson will take your money and not support their product. No wonder they have a huge class action suit against them.

You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. Using 6.2 the file names are .mdb and mdb.bak. For 6.2, the files are located in the username folder in PalmOSdesktop in my documents.
The files are named .dat and .bak. When you sync, the current data is stored in .dat. The next time you sync the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. You can rename the .dat to .old. then rename the .bak to .dat. If the data in the .bak file is intact, it will now be in palm desktop when you reopen Palm desktop. I have included a link to show you how to find the userfolder on the PC.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=26674
    Here is another link regarding data loss;
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=39503
The best way to backup your data is to use the export feature in Palm Desktop. Make a new folder on the PC desktop named Palm Desktop Backup data. Next, select the category you want to export. You will get a window that asks where you want to save the file, save in the folder created on the desktop. There is a button that allows you to select currently selected record or all, select all. If you don't select all, then only the record highlighted is exported. You will then need to name the file for export, I suggest the name of the category, eg: datebook (With current date). Do this for all critical data in each category. With the data exported to the folder on the PC desktop, you can save this data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW. With this method you will have your data in a seperate place than Palm desktop and the device. If you "Lose" data again, you can import the data back into palm desktop.
Make sure that when you make changes in palm desktop or the device to export the data to the folder created for the backup.
    Here is a link for other options for backing up your data;
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28751
    To change the hotsync conduits to handheld overwrites desktop;
Click the HotSync icon in the Windows Taskbar and select Settings.
    Click the link for Applications
Highlight the conduit you want to change and select change.
Set the conduit to handheld overwrites desktop.
Change each conduit to handheld overwrites desktop.
Sync the PDA to the PC.
If you do not check the "set as default" box the changes will only last for 1 sync. If you sync and have a problem with the sync, make sure you go back and change the conduits to handheld overwrites desktop.  You can set the conduits to "set as default" while you are trying to get the data on the PC. After you have the data on the PC, change the conduits to sync the files.

  • Dreamweaver & Adobe Pagemill

I have downloaded a trial version of CS3 to see if it can
convert and update my website. This was constructed using old
software - ADOBE PAGEMILL v3 - now discontinued (and not even
mentioned on the Adobe website). I'm still using Pagemill fine on
Mac OS 9.1 but it won't transfer to my new computer which is Mac OS
10.4 (Tiger), hence the need to upgrade. My site is huge and has
thousands of images, so starting again from scratch is not an
    option.
Customer Services at Adobe told me I should be able to 'open'
my Pagemill pages in CS3 and 'synchronise' with them on line. Does
anyone have a clue how to begin? Any help is appreciated ...

This has already been answered in the thread, but I'll give
    you the
    executive summary -
    1. They are difficult for inexperienced users to get right -
    a) pages will not align properly if one of them throws
    scrollbars
    b) links will not work when targeted into different frames
    without
    hand-modification of code
    c) new (and inexperienced users) have problems with the idea
    of a single
frameset page that only specifies constituent frames
    d) new (and inexperienced users) can be confused by the fact
    that the
<title> tag on the frameset page is the one that
    appears in the browser
    e) etc., etc., etc.
    2. They are difficult for your visitors
    a) depending on how savvy you are, you may have removed
    scrollbars to
'fix' #1b, not thinking that you have also removed those
    scrollbars for
    people with smaller viewports
    b) search engines will index *all* pages within your
    frameset, meaning
that a navigation frame or a content only page MAY be shown
    in a search hit
list - imagine the confusion when the page is loaded without
    navigation, for
    example
And - they are so amateur. Really.
    > Won't I lose the buttons/menu bar?
The way to convert a framed page to a non-framed page is to
    copy content
from each frame and consolidate it into a single page, so the
    answer to this
question is NO, certainly not. BUT - you have to have the
    facility with
HTML to build a page HTML infrastructure that can accommodate
    both the
    navigation and the content.
Honestly, if you are asking these questions, you will really
    be well advised
to take a break and spend a few days here -
    http://www.w3schools.com - so
that you can pick up enough HTML understanding to move
    forward.

  • Organizing your images

I've been playing with a new image gallery feature that we could use on our forums.
    If turned on, you could:
    Organize your images into albums
    Move images between albums
Select an album for your image while uploading it to your post
Easily jump from the image page to the message that it appears in
Upload up to 10 images at a time into your gallery
Mark an entire album as private so images inside the album are also private
Comment on and Kudo images inside the albums
It seems pretty useful to me, but I don't have a good feel for how much everyone uses the image gallery functionality.  I know that some users have stayed away from it altogether and continue to use the older method to embed images in their posts.
    Thanks,
    Laura

The image gallery in its current form is pretty useless. It cannot be efficiently used once it contains a large collection.

    These are all welcome improvements.
    Here are some additional ideas:
Once an image gets embedded into a posts, it should be an internal copy of the gallery image so it remains in the posts even if the gallery image is deleted. (What good is a time limited post edit window if embedded images can be freely wiped out long after posting by simply deleting the gallery entry? This is a post edit too!).
Of course we don't want this to turn into a full blown foto sharing site with huge albums of the hawaii vacations or grandkids. OTOH, albums with travel photos from NI week would e nice...

Printer font size is controlled by your printing software or browser settings. You must change the font size in these programs.
