No workshop installed with Solaris WLS 7.01 installer ..

Dear all !
I justed installed a fresh WLS 7.01
on a Solaris 2.7 box ..
and i faced the same problem
as I already had with the full
installer for wls 7.0 ..
Even if I click custom .. and
click on all three parts, means
also make the click for the workshop
I didn't get the workshop
installed .. what can I do to
get them installed ???
Thanks !
     Frank

Hi Wayne !
>>
$ ./platform701_solaris.bin -mode=console | tee screenoutput.txtI used now a fresh file .. just downloaded from bea ..
ls -l server701_solaris.bin-rwxr--r-- 1 xxx xxx 134964352 Oct 7 13:35 server701_solaris.bin*
And made the same command like you ..
As you could see here .. no workshop is
installed :
cd bea701b/weblogic700
/usr/<something>/bea701b/weblogic700
ls -ltotal 8
drwxr-xr-x 6 xxx xxx 512 Oct 7 13:46 common/
drwxr-xr-x 4 xxx xxx 512 Oct 7 13:47 samples/
drwxr-xr-x 6 xxx xxx 512 Oct 7 13:46 server/
drwxr-xr-x 2 xxx xxx 512 Oct 7 13:48 uninstall/
I attach you the whole conversation at the end ..
The question whihc are open :
a) Contains server701_solaris.bin the workshop yes or no
a1 ) if yes, why is he not installed
a2) if no .. is the webpage wrong , which states that
the workshop comes with the server .. and the
install routine say this too
b) Does the installer have problems if other bea-homes exist
on one system
Really strange the whole thing, isn't it ?!
Thanks for the help !
     Frank
BTW .. what you can see at the end ..
Congratulations! WebLogic Platform 7.0.1.0
has been successfully installed to
/usr/<something>/bea701b/weblogic700.
The installer does not reflect really what I'm doing ..
( I installed weblogic Server not weblogic platform .. )

    Any ideas?

Sometimes, it's just easier and faster
to just start all over and re-install,
particularly when you have only a fresh install on your system.
This time, do not choose to include all the optional "documentation"
(that's what is held on CD5).
I have never found a reason to ever read that documentation so I stopped installing it.
... or you could download and burn a copy of CD5 and use it when prompted.

  • Several mysterious problems with Solaris 11 x86 install

    Hi folks,
I've recently installed Solaris 11 x86 as a replacement for Solaris 9 SPARC on an Ultra 2 machine. I like the operating system, but I've promptly acquired some mysterious problems. The computer is a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo E2500 with a Pentium 4 HT 3.06 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, an 80 GB SATA disk and a 147 GB SCSI disk.
I have had a few occasions on which the screen goes totally blank, the monitor claims that there is no signal, and I have to restart the machine. However, with the blank screen, the hard drive activity light is sometimes still flashing. This happens predictably when I try to log off (as opposed to shutting down) and when I use Totem media player and click on anything inside the Totem window. The motherboard has built-in graphics and brief specifications can be found here:
    http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/professionalpc/ESPRIMO/Datasheets/ds_esprimo_edition_e2500.pdf
Yesterday my PS/2 keyboard started causing the motherboard to beep crazily when I use it. It beeps rapidly 4 times, then prints the expected character. However, the problem doesn't occur at the initial log in screen. The mouse cursor has also gone beserk on one occasion, flying all over the screen (I had this problem with a previous PC, but a different OS, and thought it was a hardware fault, which I why I got this new computer). With the keyboard problem, the machine is basically unusable. However, it is configured as a dual boot machine, and the keyboard problem isn't present with Windows XP.
There are also a few smaller, odd problems. Occasionally all the icons vanish from my Gnome desktop. The command prompt also mysteriously changed from $chris@pluto to $bash-4.1 just before the keyboard problem appeared, although that might have had something to do with me copying my home directory to a different disk and editing the /etc/auto_home file (moving the home directory worked fine). Also, unlike with Solaris 9 SPARC, I find that I have to have external SCSI devices switched on at boot time, should I want to use them later. That's a pain. With Solaris 9, I could run "boot -r" when I first attached the device, then switch on the SCSI devices and mount them whenever I wanted.
After the useful advice I received here about "more" and "less", I thought I'd post these problems and see if anyone can help. I'd really appreciate some advice. Can anyone identify likely causes for these problems? Which problems can I expect to solve and which do I have to live with?

  • Help with Video Card Install on Solaris 8

I have a video card with nvidia4 chipset. After installing solaris 8 on my system I get a screen that is too big to fit on the monitor, so I have to scroll down to see everything. Plus it displays 16 colors. I tried to install the FreeBSD drivers that are availble on the nvidia site but could not run "make" command. Anyone know how to solve this?

    There are two options:
    1. Install the latest Solaris 8 x86 video driver patch109401-14
    available at:
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/show.pl?target=patches/xprod-Solaris_x86IntelDrivers&nav=pub-patches
This may add native support for your nvidia chipset. If it doesn't,
then you have the option to try the new VESA driver which is
included with this patch as well - the VESA driver is supposed to work
on all cards that have the necessary VESA support bios routines.
    2. Install the "Solaris XFree86 Video Drivers and Porting Kit"
    http://soldc.sun.com/developer/support/driver/tools/video/video-index.html
It adds support for many video cards by using XFree 4.2.0 video
driver modules. It also includes another variant of the VESA driver.

  • Problem with solaris install/boot

I recently had to use solaris at work and liked it. So thought of getting it on intel box at home to learn it. I have never worked on a unix based OS before. When I installed the OS first time, the desktop would not start up, this was because of network setup. Reinstalled worked. After a week due to some problem i had to reinstall OS, installation went fine and but when i reboot i get this errror.
    cannot find mis/krtld
    boot error loading interpreter(misc/krtld)
    elf32 read error

i have been trying to reinstall with many option like formatting with windows fdisk, linux installer everything as I saw somehwre that disk needs low level format.
I have googled but could not find any reason.
When I try to format disk using windows this is the information gatherd
    Partition1 (solarisboot) 12 MB
    partition2 unknown 152610
    Hardware
    pentium4 2.4 GHZ
    1Gb DDR memor
    Intel Original mother board.
    140 Gb hard disk
    Installation
install type 3 (tried all options)
entire disk for boot and solaris
    accepted almost all parameters.
downloaded again , burned a DVD still same.
Any help will be highly apreciated, as I have been trying out everything I could find, also I really want to learn to use solaris

Weird; it wouldn't be so hard installing/running Solaris 10 on your hardware.
If you haven't tried Solaris 11 (Solaris Express) yet, I would suggest you to download the latest Solaris Express bits from http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/solaris-express/get.jsp.
Hope the following hints are useful, for a smooth installation:
    Choose:
    * Solaris Interactive installation in the initial screen.
    * Networked in Network Connectivity screen
    * Use DHCP
    * No to IPv6 & Kerberos, if running Solaris 10 is the only priority
    * None to Name Service (assuming the machine is not in corporate network)
    * CD/DVD to "Specify Media"
    * Default Install to "Select type of install"
    * No to "Do you need to override the system's default NFS version 4 domain name?"
    Note:
Once the installation from CD1 is complete, system boots up from the hard disk; and it may appear that it is not going to ask for CD2. Just be patient, and wait for it to ask you about CD2.

I am running into an issue installing Oracle 9i on Solaris 10. The installer can't access directories just created by the /tmp/orainstroot.sh file, the folder /export/home/oracle/oraInventory. There error message is: The oracle universal installer inventory on thie system does not exist or is not writable The possible causes are:
    1. The /tmp/orainstRoot.sh script was not executed with root priveledges, or an error occured during execution
(It was executed as root, and there were no errors)
2.You are not a member of the specified Installer group (the installer group is the primary group for the id "oracle" that i am using to install.
If anyone has encoutered this particular issue and resovled it I'd really appreciate your assistance

You have to run the script with root to set up the proper directories

    Hello,
I've installed the Solaris 10 in core mode. The problem is that I need to use the Xmanager software but i don't know which packages must be installed to run the Xmanager . Could someone help me. Thank you in advance

What account are logged as? You can type "who" command without the quotation. You should be logged in a root. Root has total control of the system. If you want to go to the root account type "su" command.

  • HTTP Server is not currently supported with Solaris 10

I am having a problem to start the HTTP Server on Solaris 10 (I am installing HTTP Server as part of HTMLDB installation on Solaris 10).
I had a problem to install it at first, however I've found on 'AskTom' that unsetting ORA_NLS33 helps and it did. Now I can't start the HTTP server and I've found on metalink that 'HTTP Server is not currently supported with Solaris 10, this is targeted for Q2CY05'.
    Has this been fixed yet?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Unable to install a Solaris OS in a Single disk slice

    Hi,
We are unable to install the Solaris-OS on a single slice disk.
We found that, only "Solaris 10 10/08 (U6)" release can support the single slice disk installation, prior release are not. Is it true ?
We found it from "LDoms Community Cookbook " , from given link
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/SolarisLogicalDomains/Section+2+-VirtualDevices
    Paragraph is
" Before Solaris 10 10/08 (U6), when a backend is exported to a domain as a single slice disk, it will appear in that domain as a disk with a single partition (s0). Such a disk is not visible with the format(1m) command and its partition table can not be changed. A single slice disk will not be visible from the Solaris installer and can not be select as a disk device on which Solaris can be installed. "
    Our Configuration are

I am having the same problems as Frank described. We're trying to install Platform
7.0 on Solaris 8, but the "workshop" directory is not being created. Has anyone
been successful in installing it into this environment?

  • Does HP Proliant DL380 G4 work with Solaris 10?

    Hi everybody!!!
Id like to know if anybody made HP Proliant DL380 G4 work with solaris 10.
I didnt find this server in HCL for solaris 10.
has anybody tried to install solaris 10 on this server?
    tnx very much
    regards
    The player

I've tried. The biggest stumbling block is the RAID controller if you are using one. I was using a Smart Array 5300 but couldn't find a driver. As memory serves me, and it was a year ago on a G3 with version 9, you need to use the second or third ( I forget) CD for Solaris and not the first to set it up and you need a startup diskette (my name for it, Sun calls it somethig else) with the array driver on it. It was a real pain especially when my version of Red Hat Liniux found the controller right off the bat and installed nicely with NO errors. I think Sun's clunky installation needs some work to make it work better. Maybe Solaris 10 is different.

  • How to upgrade Forms 11gR2 to use JAVA 7 after it was installed with JAVA 6

I recently installed Forms 11gR2 on a development server.  We are trying to have the latest versions of everything to migrate from Forms 10g and assure we have support for the next few years.
Our platform has the following software configuration:
    Solaris 10 (Update 19) SPARC 64 bits
Weblogic 11g (10.3.6) that was installed with Java JDK 1.6.0_38
Forms 11g R2 (11.1.2.1) that was also installed with
    Java JDK 1.6.0_38
I tried to install Weblogic and Forms using the latest Java 7 JDK (1.7.0_25) but I got an error in the final steps of Forms setup, when I was configuring the domain.  I searched online and found a couple of tips but nothing worked.  The installation was stuck at the
Creating Weblogic Domain step.  So I decided to try the installation process with the Java 6 JDK that we are using right now for Forms 10g, and it worked perfectly.  I have now two options but I don't know which one might be the better path:
Uninstall Weblogic and Forms 11g completely, and try to re-install them again with Java 7, trying to fix the error that I got at the end of the configuration process.
Try to upgrade the current Forms 11g installation from Java 6 to Java 7.  I found a blog that might suggest it is possible, but I don't know if it may cause additional issues along the road. http://pitss.com/us/2013/02/20/how-to-use-java-7-with-oracle-forms-11g-in-an-oracle-supported-environment/
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have, or if any of you has experience installing Forms 11gR2 with Java 7 it might be great to know how to fix this error.  It might be worth mentioning that when I installed Forms and Weblogic with Java 6 I used exactly the same values, ports, options and paths.  The error appears like this in the installation logs and the process hangs there:

Well if I got it to work with java 6 I'd leave it alone, to say the least. The elephant in the room is the certification matrix.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/overview/index.html
there's 2 issues, what jdk does forms on the server want? Bigger question, what JRE is acceptable on the client?
You would surely want the jre to be 7 on the client. Regarding the jdk on the server, you could leave it as is IMHO.
Note that there was a patch to 11gr2. In conclusion, be sure to check the cert matrix regarding what is certified for the jdk for the server.
I think the matrices are saying that if you have forms 11.1.2.1.0 that you can use the jdk 7. but like I said the big issue is what can the client use?
As I read the matrix I think it is saying you have to have 11.1.2.1.0 to use the jre 7 on the client.
So I would say if you have 11.1.2.1.0 on the server you are good because it's not a problem to have the jdk 6 on the server, if not you have to apply the patch in order to enable the jre 7 on the client.

  • Solaris 8 client setup with solaris 9 ldap

I have managed to install iplanet directory server 5.1 that comes with solaris 9 using the utility idsconfig. As far as i can tell, all went well. Now i'm trying to initialize a solaris 8 client to authenticate to the iDS 5.1 on my solaris 9 box. What do i have to do on the solaris 8 client to "initialize it"? I've tried using ldapclient on the solaris 8 client as follows:
    # ldapclient -v -P default x.x.x.x
but i keep getting the following errors:
    findDN rename(/var/ldap/ldap_client_file.orig, /var/ldap/ldap_client_file) failed!
    findDN rename(/var/ldap/ldap_client_cred.orig, /var/ldap/ldap_client_cred) failed!
There are no files in /var/ldap. I thought that one uses ldapclient to create them. Am i wrong?
Also, the output from idsconfig says that a 'NisDomainObject' was added to my domain but looking at the object classes in iDS5.1, there is no nisdomainobject.
I also noticed that when i run the command domain on my solaris 8 box, there's no output. Do i need to set the domain on my solaris 8 client? I have the domain defined in /etc/resolv.conf.
