Nodes vs 64 bit

Hi. This is my first post.
Is anyone able to give me an idea which would give better performance, between using Logic 9 Studio in 64 bit mode, and using it in 32 bit mode with a node? As far as I understand, nodes are not available in 64 bit mode yet.
I am running Logic 9.1.5 on a 2011 MBP, 2GHz I7 with 8GB RAM. 64 bit mode should then let me access the extra RAM. I have a second MBP from 2010 (2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM) which could act as a node. Presumably this would provide more processing power but less RAM in total than using just the one MBP but in 64 bit mode.
I haven't tried it out much yet, but with an older version of Logic, just running on the faster MBP, I would sometimes get both "memory low" messages and CPU overload, so both are potentially limiting factors.
Does anyone have any experience of this?

  • Digital noise using Apple 10-bit uncompressed codec for NTSC, BIG PROBLEM!

I hope someone from Apple or the Shake team can shed some light on this problem we're having so we can take the appropriate corrective action ASAP to meet our strict deadlines on this current project.
We're compositing all the EFX (over 1000 EXF shots) for a massive video game project that needs to be delivered to the client by the end of May. Let me preface the following comments by saying that overall, we're very pleased with Shake and the end results we're getting, but one problem in particular has us very worried about making our deadline:
The project is entirely bluescreen with CGI plates, shot on anamorphic Digibeta and captured into FCP as uncompressed 10 bit. 4:2:2 through a Blackmagic HD Extreme card (via SDI).
All the 4:2:2 material exhibits (for lack of a better desciption) digital "noise" that runs along the right-hand edge of the video, with frequent drop-out "looking" sparkles that can appear anywhere in the video image. These artifacts ONLY appear when the video clips are imported into Shake, and rendered out of Shake. They play perfectly fine in FCP and QT player.
If we force the FILE-IN node to 8 bit, the problem goes away, but keying suffers - so this is not an option.
The problem ONLY occurs on our Intel Mac's, not on our older G5's. The reason we invested in the Mac Pro's for this project was to reap the performance boost we desired in order to get the project out the door by our deadline, plus the G5's are busy offlining upcoming episodes - so turning the compositing over to the G5's is also not an option.
We're already well down the road, and while we realize that at Shake's current price-point it seems silly to complain at all, we gladly would have paid more for a compositing tool if we knew we were going to run into a situation like this. Unforunately, our initial evaluation of Shake was done on our G5's which don't suffer from this issue.
If anyone from has any recommendation for an efficient way to solve or work around this issue, we'd love to hear from you.
    Best regards,
    Michael Buday

Not sure the exact answer, but some options to try:
    1) have you tried converting the clips to image
sequences? Perhaps it's a QuickTime error.
    2) How about using 2 FileIns - one at 10 bit to
generate the keys and one at 8 bit for the fill?

Hello Patrick and thanks for your suggestion:
We're going to experiment with different codecs and image sequences this week to see what happens.
RE: using different FILEIN's for key/fill, is something I hadn't thought of but unfortunately the 10bit FILEIN would still be affected by the noise which would in turn affect the alpha channel created by Keylight or Primatte.
I'll let you know what we find out as things progress.
    Again, thanks.

  • Formula node bitwise OR has a bug?

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to do a bitwise OR with 32 bits in an formula node. It seems that the OR operation produces unexpected results if the most significant bit is set. For example if I do:
0x00000000 OR 0xffffffff I would expect 0xffffffff. Instead I get 0x80000000. In binary this looks like:
    00000000000000000000000000000000  OR
    11111111111111111111111111111111  EQUALS
    10000000000000000000000000000000
Please see the attached minimal example for comparison of some example values. The output with using blocks is exactly the one I would expect and is also included in the example.
I am using Labview Version 14.0f1 on Windows 7 Professional.
This might also be in connection with the following currently unresolved bug:
    48016
    3P7CBB4Q
    http://www.ni.com/product-documentation/52150/en/#48016_by_Category
However that that bug is for unsigned int32 and the suggested workaround is to use signed 32 bit integer, which nevertheless fails in the provided example code.
If someone could have a look and tell me if this is a bug or if I am misunderstanding somtheing that would be great. I am already starting to go crazy.
Best regards and thanks in advance

No, actually this bug is different from what is documented. The documented bug happens with uInt32 and the documentation specifically suggests to use Int32 as a workaround for the known bug:
"2. Use signed 32-bit integers instead of unsigned 32-bit integers in the formula node."
However this is exactly what fails in my case when I use OR. I thought this might be some valuable information for the people trying to fix that bug. (Which seems to be hard to find, as it has been around so long and screws up very basic operations.)
It might also be that NI does not really care for that bug because most people don't use the formula node for basic bit arithmetic. Anyway, I just wanted to put the information out somewhere for the next person who has that problem to find. I  guess the lesson I learned from this conversation is don't trust the formual node to much for doing low-level bit stuff...

  • Distributing load in 4 node mixed hardware cluster

    Hi,
    We've a 2 node cluster that's shortly to become a 4 node cluster - 2 x blades and 2 x midrange with similar capacity processor & bus wise.
Unfortunately, the existing 2 node cluster is heavily overloaded with 6 databases (not by choice, inheritance!).
In order to use our 2 new nodes for dedicated processing, idea is to have 4 node RAC, but 1 db on the 2 blades, not bringing up instances on the existing midrange nodes. Eventually, we hope to extend to proper 4 instances across all nodes, and reduce no. of DB's to 2 or 3. I've no idea why so many DB's were created, however cannot get around it. In order to hedge off processing we could bring up a 4 node db, however again would like to keep the new 2 nodes relatively clean wrt load to facilitate some performance testing.
Could I have peoples views on the above? Mitigation of load testing via resourcing is only really useful when you've the 1 DB and multiple apps running off the same. Similarly, using services to pin to the new nodes doesn't overcome the fact that existing nodes are a bit of a mess.
    Thanks,
    Conor.

    Hi Conor,
I used to administrate a 4 node RAC environment, With 3 databases, Services for one database were started in two nodes, and services for the other databases were started in the other two servers.
I didn't have I good experience with this kind of architeture. Sometimes I've had problems related to one database and I had to stop all environment to solve the it. :(
For patches, was the same issue, sometimes I've had to patch all environment just for one problem related to one database.
About the performance, It was another issue for me. Although I've broken the load on the servers in the cluster, sometimes I had performance problems in one server and this problem used to freeze all cluster at all (until now I don't know how to explain that, but it's usually happened).
Now, We've broken this one 4 node cluster in three 2 node cluster (one cluster of two nodes for each database) and it's been working better than the old configuration.
The idea of putting everything in one cluster doesn't sounds good, at least for me. Talking to a friend, he told me about a 8 node cluster, working very well, but it's been very well planned and projected.

  • Reinstalling a lost RAC node

Have lost a RAC node (10gr2) some years ago. We recovered the node via a bit of a hack - pulling a mirrored root disk from another cluster node and changing the config of that root disk, after boot, to that of the lost node (including recreating local node log directories and so on). But that was done as a result of a crisis... ;-)
Have lost a 11gr2 RAC node (3 node RAC, 1st node) this weekend during scheduled maintenance (was told that the root disks crashed badly when server was restarted). O/s has been reinstalled in the meantime. I've been looking for an official support note or section in an Oracle manual that describes the most painless way to get a lost node working again. Have not found anything.
Is the recommended approach to remove the lost node from the cluster and then add it as a brand new node? Or did I miss an alternative or even recommended Oracle method, in my googling and looking through the docs and Metalink notes?

Is the recommended approach to remove the lost node from the cluster and then add it as a brand new node?i think so and This doc may help in this case as new node has no information of existing node setup.

  • Had deleted the /usr/bin, /usr/sbin directories of a node

    Dear All,
I have ended up into deep trouble a few minutes ago: We have 2 node RHEL 6b-bit Oracle RAC.
I had issued 'rm -rf /usr' command and in a few seconds i realised and then aborted the above process by issuing 'Ctrl-C'. I found following missing: bin, sbin, evolution28, remoteagent, java, include missing.
As of now the Node and the Oracle database is working fine.
Please let me know if I can copy the missing directories from the another node, as both the nodes are Identical (Just a wild guess).
We do not have a backup of the RAC machines.
    Please help me on this.

We had actually contacted our Network Admin to look into the issue, and things went worst when he copied the '/usr/bin' directory from one node to the other. The machine went to halt and rebooted with a blank screen.
Moreover, we were unable to make any connections to the node, though the other node and the database are working fine.server halt... if you use linux (redhat) you can boot by CD or DVD (rescue), after boot from CD...
You can mount disk and set up network ....
So, You can copy /usr/bin/ + .... from another nodes to this server.
As per my knowledge and experience, will it be fine if I format the machine and install Linux/Oracle freshly and then add this to the cluster?
Should I unregister the old node from the cluster or let it remain as it is and follow the process of adding a new node.if you need to delete node and then add node, you can read from oracle documents

  • 10g Grid (RAC) on Linux with ASM and OCR?

I was trying to install 10g on Linux with ASM. The docs are not terribly clear on this, but I'd like to have the Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) on one of my four ASM disks, rather than dedicate space to OCFS. I have 4 18.2 GB drives setup with ASM now. Is there a way to do this?
I guess the other thing I could do is to cut the ASM disks into two partitions. One, say 200MB and the other the rest. I'd put OCFS for OCR on the 200MB partition on one of the disks. The large partition on each of the rest of the disks would be dedicated to ASM.
What am I missing? I feel it must be something obvious. I'd rather have the OCR on the ASM, so that I don't have to deal with it...
    Thanks!
    Jeff

    Hi.
There shouldn't be a problem with this provided you use a 32-bit OS on the 64 bit machine. RAC doesn't care about the chipset, so long as the same OS is used, but I don't thinkit will support one node on 32 bit and one on 64 bit, since they are actually separate distributions.
Of course, I've never tried it so I can't be sure :)
    Cheers

  • Having trouble finding the height of a Binary Tree

Hi, I have an ADT class called DigitalTree that uses Nodes to form a binary tree; each subtree only has two children at most. Each node has a "key" that is just a long value and is placed in the correct position on the tree determined by its binary values. For the height, I'm having trouble getting an accurate height. With the data I'm using, I should get a height of 5 (I use an array of 9 values/nodes, in a form that creates a longest path of 5. The data I use is int[] ar = {75, 37, 13, 70, 75, 90, 15, 13, 2, 58, 24} ). Here is my code for the whole tree. 2) the height of a tree is one more than the maximum of the heights of the left and right sub-trees.
This translates to Java as a recursive function like this:
    int getHeight(Node node) {
       if (node == null) // definition #1
          return 0;
       else // definition #2
          return 1+Math.max(getHeight(node.left), getHeight(node.right));

  • FlexRIO DRAM problem in Labview FPGA 2010

    Hello,
I am just switching from Labview FPGA 2009 to Labview FPGA 2010 and I am having compilation problems with very simple projects that shouldn't fail to compile.
I am using a FlexRIO 7965R board as a target. Initially, I just wanted to recompile a project that was working fine under Labview FPGA 2009. When it failed, I drastically
simplified it to isolate the source of error. I ended up with what is attached. In this very simple VI I just write some values into DRAM banks in one timed loop, read them out in another and send them through a Target to Host DMA FIFO. Both loops are quite slow running at only 40 MHz. Previously, I was able to compile VIs with DRAM clip nodes in timed loops running at 100 MHz without any problems.
The compilation fails with this summary:
    "Compilation
    failed due to resource overmapping"
    although it should fit easily.
The error is definitely related to DRAM. This s what Xilinx log says:
    "ERRORlace:543
    - This design does not fit into the number of slices available in this device
    due to the complexity of
       the design and/or constraints.
       Unplaced instances by type:
         IDELAYCTRL    21 (48.8)  "
Then it lists these instances (about 20):
       0. IDELAYCTRL
    Puma20DramMainx/GenBank0or1Mig.u_ddr2_idelay_ctrl/u_idelayctrl_MapLib_replicate0
       1. IDELAYCTRL
    Puma20DramMainx/GenBank0or1Mig.u_ddr2_idelay_ctrl/u_idelayctrl_MapLib_replicate1
       2. IDELAYCTRL Puma20DramMainx/GenBank0or1Mig.u_ddr2_idelay_ctrl/u_idelayctrl_MapLib_replicate2
Both DRAM banks are configured with the clip node for 128-bit FIFO version v1.1.0. I also tried using the legacy version v1.0.0 but it didn't make any difference.
It looks like I have some configuration problems I can't identify or there is something wrong with the DRAM clip node in Labview FPGA 2010.
Any ideas on what could be happening here? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Ivan

    Hello Ivan,
It looks like in your project you are using both the NI 5761 adapter module and DRAM.  We have seen a few cases where certain combinations of DRAM, adapter modules, and FlexRIO FPGA targets in LabVIEW FPGA 2010 have caused some resource overmapping errors of the IODelayCtrl components used in the adapter module and DRAM CLIPs. Due to a bug, certain constraints inside of the CLIP cores are misinterpreted by the ISE compiler causing this overmap error when you switch to LabVIEW FPGA 2010.
This was reported to R&D (# 258076) for further investigation and to create a long term fix.  In the meantime, for this specific issue please use the following knowledgebase article to apply a patch to your FlexRIO fixed logic files.  This patch updates some of the constraints used by the DRAM to ensure that the Xilinx compiler can properly interpret them. There are more details on your issue in the knowledgebase as well.

If you do run into any other issues regarding IODelayCtrl components, feel free to reply to this forum topic to let me know about them.

  • Using comport data to start a sequence

    All--
I'm sure my terminology is bad here so allow me to explain what I want to do. I wish to monitor a com port and when the data stream arrives do things like parse, plot, send to indicators and write the data to a file. I have built a series of cases to do each of the tasks in sequence. I need a nice neat way to start the sequence when the data is finished arriving and then wait for the next data transmission. The data arrives about once per minute. Unfortunately, for now, the data will only come in at 1200 bps, so the transmission takes about 3 seconds. I think an event structure would work but I have no idea how to create/uses dataflow on the comport to start the sequence. Thanks in advance for the help.

I tried using the timeout on the "Configure Serial Port" vi but it did not work very well. The example uses a property node with the read function. How does this timeout differ from the Config Ser. port" timeout function?? Thanks.

I'm not sure which example you are referring to here or which property node with the read function you are talking about.
How come you have 60,000 wired to the property node for data bits?  The only valid setting for that are 5-8.  And the only likely settings would be 8 or 7.  I think you have that setting confused with timeout.
I would recommend opening your serial port and configuring the settings only once during the intialization frame of your state machine.  Close the port only once in a frame that occurs once when you stop the program.  In between, you just carry the VISA reference through the loop by way of shift registers.
(Actually you should be using a lot more shift registers.  You are relying too heavily on local variables to get data from one state to another.  It could possibly cause problems down the road.)
Your architecture right now is technically a state machine, but basically just a step above a flat sequence structure.  You can use decisions to determine which code to execute next.  See the attached screenshot.

  • Save, edit boolean controlled stopwatch

    Hellow Fellow LabVIEW users
The attached is a stopwacth corresponding to this earlier forum post.
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Reentrant-Boolean-Array-Controlled-stopwatch-SubVI/m-p/1334916#M5427...
I want to add to the solution and make my VI do the following
    a) With each iteration, I want the VI to save the values in each individual stopwatch, so even when the program closes and is reopened the values are intact.
    b) When I press the "Edit B4" boolean an "Edit Time" control and "Edit and Save" boolean control array comes up. I want to be able to change the values of the original indicator array when I press the "Edit and Save" Boolen as well as revert back to the original array with the new values.
    c) I want these new Array values to be saved with the new iteration.
I believe I should use an event structure.I also plan on using the SubVI 12 different times. Please let me know how I shuld proceed in this regard. Your help as always is greatly appreciated and needed. Please let me know if you need further clarification.
    Thanks

Drew answered the question about saving between runs, but I think your problem is much simpler

What do you mean by "intact"? Should the program continue at the times where it stopped of or should it account for the time where the program did not run? For example if you close the program for one hour and start it again, should all active timers be one hour higher?
In this case you simply want to write the current contents of the start ticks feedback node and the boolean states to a flat binary file whenever they change (probably not very often). Use a file with a fixed name right next to the executable. Open the file once, then use lowlevel file IO for the duration of the program run and close when the program ends.
When the program starts, you can use the "first run?" primitive to reload the data into the shift registers as needed.
Make the subVI a proper action engine with several modes (init, normal run, overwrite timers, end, etc.). Remember, to customize the timers, you need to overwrite the shift regsiter contents inside the subVI.
Your use of property nodes is a bit clumsy. You don't need to write to all these property nodes with every iteration of the loop, they only need to be written when the boolean input changes (property nodes are relatively expensive because they force synchronous execution). Instead of the property nodes, you could just use a tab control with two tabs (e.g. run|edit) one containing the timers and one the edit time array. This eliminates the boolean switch and all property nodes.
What's the maximum duration of a program run? If it exceeds 10^32ms, you probably need to switch to timestamps instead.
Use a simple event structure in the toplevel program with the bulk of the code in a 1000ms timeout case. Add cases for "stop:value changed" and "edit time: value changed".

  • How to manage one domain from another domain

I have created 2 domains domain1 and domain2. I deployed a web application in domain2 and created a managed server "newManagedserver-1" to run the application. From admin console of domain1, I need to control ie start/stop managed server "newManagedserver-1" created in domain2 by using the Node manager.
Please let me know if its possible and if so, please let me know the steps.

Ok thanks for information. I have following questions:
1)Is it possible for same domain to exist on more than 1 physical machine. I mean lets consider I create a domain domain1 in physical machine1 and same domain1 in physical machine2. Can I monitor managed servers of physical machine2 from admin console of physical machine1. Paths of the domain1 on both the physical machines being same(C:\bea\user_projects\domains)
2)If the paths of domain1 on both physical machines is different(for eg C:\CLOSR\install1\appserver\autodeploy\domain1 and C:\CLOSR\install2\appserver\autodeploy\domain1), then will the node manager functionality with admin server of machine1 and managed servers on machine2 work?---We can create one domain (domain1) and have different managed servers on two different physical machines.
Which means create a domain on machine1,and while adding a managed servers to that domain,
1)create 1 managed server (MS1) and provide the IP address of the same box(machine1)
2)create second managed server (MS2) and provide the IP address of the second box(machine2)
In this way we can create two managed servers on two different machines (machine1 and machine2), and as per your requirement monitor/manage the managed servers from machine1.
We don’t need to create a domain on another machine explicitly, however this configuration need few steps to be performed.
This concept is called Horizontal cluster,Following forum link will explain the same in detail.
    Vertical and Horizontal Clustering
---Regarding having different paths for the same domain on machine1 and machine2,
We will not create a domain on machine 2 explicitly; the concept is creating one domain but distributing it on different machines.
So paths of the installation or the directory where we have the managed sever will not matter here.
The node manager functionality will work, provided we configure it correctly.
Following link will help you understand this in a better way.
