Hello I have just received a DT01ACA100 1TB HDD and when I power it up it makes a clicking/ticking noise and isn't picked up/found by my PC.
I am running windows 7 with all the latest updates.

I guess you have connected this 3.5 HDD to the desktops internal SATA controller.
    Right?
Is this HDD recognized in BIOS?
In case its not recognized in BIOS nor by Windows system, I would recommend you to replace this HDD.
    Probably the HDD malfunctions.

  • Clean install on new 1TB hdd, Yosemite keeps freezing when copying data from an ext drive and also from a usb

    Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out why my macbook keeps freezing when I try to drag my data across to it (even small files from a USB).
I've had to force restart over a dozen times today :/
I ran EtreCheck and there are a couple of issues (I've no idea what they mean).
If anybody could share some light into the report below I would be very grateful:

Thanks - I had a 1TB hdd in my macbook for about 12 months but it started playing up a few days ago (I got the question mark folder on bootup) so I bought another 1TB hdd (same model) and started from scratch.
My macbook is an early 2010... now I'm wondering if Yosemite is a bit too much for it?
The ext hdd is my timemachine backup, so yes I have used it often and it has my TM backups - and the usb is a new usb which Ive used a few times.
The issue seems to be when Im transferring files from an ext drive to my mac. I can use it fine and browse (worked find for 45 mins) then I tried to bring my data across.. and it copied a few gig over before total freeze.
This has happened about a dozen times.
I keep running disk utility and checking the disk. I also just ran the apple diagnostics tool that came in the apps cd - the hardware apears to be fine.
I have a 250 gb partition for the OS and the rest is my second partition for data.
I'm now wondering if I should reformat the first partition, install leopard from the CD, then upgrade to mavericks and leave it at that.
Any thoughts would be awesome. Thank you for reading and replying!

  • Replacing PS4 HDD with an old 1TB HDD

Hello Everyone, I have recently bought a PS4 which will be delivered within 1-2 days. I really wanted a larger Hard drive as I think 500 GB won't be enough for me so I decided that I will upgrade my HDD to 1 TB before using my PS4. I have a 1 year old external Hard drive samsung m8 1TB which I wanted to use in my PS4. the problem is that the hard drive has corrupted twice in past. I used to watch 1080P MKV movies on my Samsung LED TV but it started getting corrupted and unreadable and only way to use it again was to format it and yes I did it twice only. I was using my old PS3 controller usb cable for my hard drive to connect it with my computer or LED TV. My concern is, would I be able to use it on my PS4 without any issue? As it might be the USB cable which would be causing my external hard drive to be corrupted or my LED TV or due to the data which I was containing in my Hard disc. Even If it may corrupt in future, will it damage or affect my PS4 negatively because if it will not harm my PS4 than i will give it a try so I can put back the original PS4 500 GB HDD if my hard disk corrupts again. Thanks!

I wouldn't risk it if the hdd has had problems in the past it will have problems again. Do you want to install hundreds of gigs of data only to discover 3 or 4 months down the line the hdd has gone corrupt again.
1tb hdd are cheap nowadays may as well buy a new one and give yourself peace of mind that you won't have problems a few months down the line.
It wouldn't damage ps4 just cause a bit of inconvenience as you would have to format the drive again. Then spend hours downloading and installing everything again. different subject, how do you have a a sign with your id under your comment how do i get it?

Can't speak about avid, since I am not familiar with the software.
You can certainly use FCP X on that machine. It should work better if you use a fast external drive for your media and projects.
There is a free trial, so try it out and see how it goes. You should also follow some good video tutorials, if you are not familiar with the application. FCP X is a lot different from Avid, Premiere or even Final Cut Pro 7.

  • What 1TB HDD can i put in Macbook Pro 3.1 A1226

    Hi
I want to replace my HDD in my Old Macbook Pro 3.1 A1226 - I have done this before , so that no worries
However Just need to know which HDD is Compatible , I am looking for a 1tb HDD, Not SSD as to expensive for that size .
Maybe the new HGST 1TB  " http://www.hgst.com/travelstar-7k1000 " or something Similar
Will this one work - it's the correct size 2.5" 9.5mm thick but I do not Know about the SATA I , II, III - Mine is I believe Sata I , 1.5GBs link speed
So question is Can i put different SATA versions in are they all Backward Compatiable , would they just run on a Slower speed ??
Can someone recommend best Drive for my Computer
    Thanks All in Advanced
    Mark

There are only three major drive manufacturers left standing. You choices at that 1TB size in laptop form factor are few.
HGST stands for Hitachi Global Storage Technology, same as Hitachi, which bought IBM's drive business and the Deskstar and Travelstar brands years ago
    WD is its own company,
I think Toshiba's drive operations disappeared into Seagate.
Would you be better off dividing your files into two groups -- those that you need to be portable, and those that could be on an external drive on your desk?

  • HP Pavilion DV7-7008tx Laptop - Raid 1 for two 1TB HDDs?

    HP Pavilion DV7-7008tx Laptop
    B3K25PA#ABG
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Hi,
    I have a Pavilion DV7 with two 1TB HDDs and a 32GB m-sata cache/ssd.
I would like to put the two HDDs into a RAID 1 (mirror) array.
When I enable RAID I loses the ability to boot into Windows.
I have verified that the Laptop will run the two HDDs in RAID 1 as I can run a Linux Boot disk ahd then boot into Windows 7 succesfully.
Something in the Raid /Boot  configuration is not allowing the Laptop to boot directly into Windows.
Any ideas or instruction would be helpful please?
    Regards

    Hello @Micro-Motive ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having issues booting after setting up RAID 1 on your DV7-7008tx notebook.
When setting up RAID 1 mirrors you need to enable the feature and then format the drives. After they have been formatted Windows must be reinstalled. If you have not already done this, please try it now and let me know if you still have the problem.
Why: Enabling the Raid 1 feature does not automatically mirror the drives. The Boot MGR is looking for the content on both drives but is only finding it on 1 and thus fails to load.
I think it's also important to explain that setting up RAID 1 with a 32GB SSD flash along with a 1TB mechanical drive is going to drastically reduce your storage space. RAID 1 mirrors the content on both drives so it can read from both at the same time, increasing read and write speeds. The downside to this is that the mirror only works to the extent of the smallest drive. Thus, your turning your 1TB drive into a 32GB drive.
See here for more information: Chapter 19. GEOM: Modular Disk Transformation Framework This article is for FreeBSD users, an open source Unix-like operating system but the same rules apply as RAID support occurs at the BIOS level.
What you may want to do is install a hybrid drive. A hybrid drive will allow you to use the speeds of SSD at a fraction of the price. You can read about this here: Hybrid hard drives: How they work and why they matter.
Let me know if you need any more information or if installing Windows after enabling RAID 1 does not work.

  • 1TB HDD

    Hi,
I see that there is a 1TB HDD available in apple store. It is stated that it's for the macbook pro. Does anyone know whether it can fit my MB white C2D (July2007 model)? If not, what is the difference between the drive in my MB and that in the MB Pro? Many thanks.

Are you sure it is for a MacBook Pro, and you aren't seeing it says: MyBook?
Western Digital's MyBook are EXTERNAL hard drives, not internal, thus will work with any current Mac that has the same peripheral interface (USB, Firewire) included with the MyBook. I looked at the Apple Store, and could only find the MyBook drives, not any MacBook Pro hard drive. The largest internal 2.5" Hard drive is 500 GB that I could find that are 9.5mm. 750 GB and 1 TB 2.5" hard drives exist, but are 3mm too thick for either MacBook or MacBook Pro:
    http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10296034-1.html
If you can find 9.5 mm 2.5" hard drives that are 1 TB, please provide a static link.

  • 1TB HDD in a Thinkpad T500?

Is it possible to replace the SATA 160GB hdd with a 1TB hdd in a Thinkpad T500? It seems some notebooks don't support large drives. Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Most of the larger drives (>= 750GB) use something called "advanced formatting". That means that the tracks are divided into 4kb sectors, rather than 512-byte sectors. I run a 750GB drive in my W500, so I doubt there are any other problems. In general, once you deal with advanced formatting, there are no other problems until you go over 2TB, where you need to format it as a GPT rather than an MBR drive. The considerations related to advanced formatting depend on what OS you are using, so do a search (using whatever search engine you like) on "Advanced format drives vista" substituting your OS.

i am a dj and my macbook pro 13inch 500g hard drive is almost maxed out. i want to upgrade to a 1tb HDD. what is my best option?

Depending on the year of the MBP, the hard drive may not be considered a user replaceable item...but you can check the available 1 TB drives at good sources such as OWC, http://www.macsales.com they are great to deal with and have on-line videos showing how to do most installation tasks.

  • 1TB owners look - Built in 1TB HDD  TOOOOOO HOT

Hi, I have built in 1 TB HDD and it's too hot. The temperature easily gets above 63°C (that's 145.4 °F). So, am I the only one who has 1TB HDD which is overheating, or does anyone else have the same problem with this model?
    thx

I had a 2.8GHz ALU iMac for 6 months and the hard drive would get up to 58C. You can look up your hard drive's maximum operating temperature at the manufacture website where I highly doubt you'll find it should be operating over 60C. For example, if it's a Hitachi drive check the model number at the Hitachi website.

  • Toshiba 1TB HDD, Undetectable

    Hello everyone,
I have Toshiba 1TB HDD (Internal), it's a gift from my friend. It's almost 3mons that I've been using this. All of sudden, the hard disk is not showing on my computer, i tried i reseating the hard disk but still my computer I can no longer detecting the hard disk.
I tried to check it's warranty, and it's still has warranty until 2015. I'm concerning if there's RMA process here in the Philippines.

    Hi Sandy,
Sorry to hear about the problem. For support of internal hard drives you would need to call 888-592-0944 (probably US only) or 00+1+949-583-3305.

  • 1TB HDD is only 581GB

I recently bought my GP60 2PE Leopard-472 from Newegg at this URL: newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152646&cm_re=gp60-_-34-152-646-_-Product
It stated that it had the needed 1TB hard disk space for my amount of storage. When I look at the "This PC" section, I see that the C drive only has 581 GB of total storage and the D drive only has 334 GB. By the way, what is the D drive for? I think there is only one HDD on this laptop.
I don't know if Newegg lied, or if this is a faulty computer, or if it is something that I am not catching. Can someone please tell me what is happening. I can show screenshots upon request if needed

your laptop is with 1TB but this i C and D is called partitions apperently laptop has 2 partitions on the 1TB and then 2 more hidden like for recovery partition and so on 334GB + 581GB is total 915GB which sems legit since hidden partition will take 10-15GB and you usually get 940-950GB out of a 1TB HDD.
