Noise filter troubles (CS6):

Noise filter troubles (CS6): I am trying to create a random night sky pattern. I have a black layer, I apply a noise filter (monochromatic) at 135%, I then add an adjustment layer > adjusting until just a few stars are visible (moving black and white sliders). Looks great on the screen but if I merge the layer or save as JPG the levels adjustment vanishes and all the grain from that layer is applied as if it was never there. I go back into photoshop and on the screen looks correct. Any thoughts?

Hello ScribeD,
Try viewing the image at 100% (View>Actual Pixels) to get an accurate view of what what you are doing.  Certain Effects and Filters (like Noise) do not preview accurately and can appear to change when you Merge or Flatten.
Actual Pixels (100% view) means that one pixel in your photo is being displayed by one monitor pixel. This is the only way to see how your editing actually looks.
A quick way to get to Actual Pixels is to double-click on the Zoom Tool.

I am trying to apply a lens filter in CS6 to a mp4 movie from the phantom 2+. I do the normal steps of lens filter and choose dji, phantom2+, and I click ok and the picture improves and there is less curve etc. What I don't know is why it seems to revert back to the old movie when I come back later on. I know I saved it but I must be doing something wrong. Here are my steps:
    Open an Mp4 movie
    Choose filter, lens correction
    Choose dii
    choose Phantom FC200
click ok and the image improves.
I then save as a name.psd and close the file.
I reopen the file and it looks good. When I play the movie it just jumps back to the old curved horizon.
What am I doing wrong? If you can help me I would be very grateful.

  • LR 1.2 ISO Noise filter good enough?

I read that noise reduction algorithm in LR version 1.2 has been upgraded with respect to the previous one. Downloaded 1.2 just now, coming back home from a long travel abroad, so I had no time to test.
Shot a Jazz concert last night. ISO 1600 in RAW with my Olympus E-300 (I know it is severely limited in ISO noise performance!), and had to accept underexposure in many pics, in order to get shutter speed fast enough.
    The question is:
Under these challenging conditions, should I manage to deal with ISO noise through filtration in LR, or should I better run:
    1. export to external editor (Photoshop CS)
    2. run 3rd party NR plugin (Neat Image 5.8 Pro+)
    3. reimport to LR for further processing steps.
In the latter case, it is better to leave LR Color and Luminance Noise filter parameter to defaul values, or zero everything, or set the sliders for the best possible noise suppression / image sharpness compromise?
I know, I shoud better experiment myself... but I am hard-pressed by the client asking pro-grade prints within minutes, so your help will be highly appreciated.
    Best regards.
    Andres Bernhard AKA 'Rapick'

Well, your example shows exactly why I think LR needs a lot of improvement. I surely hope that the LR-engineers take a good look at this.
The LR image has horrible NR/sharpening. Just look at the lady's hair (please forgive me my bad English - I mean the 'massive' part, not the individual hairs at the side of her face). Flat structure, strange colors, less detail than both DPP-pictures. Look at the skin on her cheek - oversharpened, unnatural colors (compared to the DPP-pictures). And the crown is heavily oversharpened in the LR-version (I would have been much more conservative here).
DPP-max clearly has the most noise, but produces by far the most natural picture. If this shows the philosophies of both Canon and Adobe, I would say Canon DPP + Noiseware is my best bet (natural and not too processed versus artificial/overprocessed), result-wise.
But I want LR to be that great converter. Dismissing other products than LR as useless doesn't help to improve LR, especially the parts where it should be far better. I don't buy the specialist-tool argument either. LR IS(!) a specialist tool and it is marketed that way. We should expect a flawless RAW-conversion from LR, no second-best solution. So instead of defending LR again and again, let's only define what should improve and how it should be done. This what I miss most in this forum. I think the developers should be visible here and discuss their choices. That would benefit them and us...
I like the way LR is designed and I like the idea how Adobe has managed to integrate the workflow. That's why I'm still sticking to it. Let's hope they bring out the LR-API soon, so we can use Noiseware (amd our own tools) within the LR-workflow...
    Cheers,
    Alex

  • HSB/HSL Filter for CS6?

Does anyboy know how to get the old HSB/HSL filter into CS6?
I've tried to copy both the CS3 and CS5 version of that filter into the CS6 directory sturcture, but the filter does not appear. No errors, just no appearance under Filters.
I have a handful of actions that use that filter to generate saturation masks. A number of forum threads have tried and failed to reproduce the equivalent saturation mask using available Photoshop functions.
Maybe it will be there under "Goodies" when the official release is made, maybe not. Or maybe it's hidden in the Beta download, but I can't find it.
Good news is that the few other custom filters I use work fine when simply copied from the CS5 directory to the CS6 directory. These are the Topaz products and Imagineomic Noiseware and Portraiture.

Got it, thanks for making me look again.
Had to RTFM to remember that with CS5 the HSB/HSL filter is bundled in a file called OptinalMultiPlugin.8BF.
Previously I just used search for all filenames containing "hsb". Only found a 1KB file called "Adobe HSBHSL Filter CS5 Prefs" (no extension) in a folder called "Adobe Mondo Filter CS5" in the users "Roaming" folder tree. copied that to CS6 with no joy. Still don't know what that is.
But copying the OptionalMultiPlugin.8BF to a plugin folder for CS6 works. The filter appears under the "Other" category and functions OK.
For the fun of it, I counted 13 different Adobe CS5/CS6 "plugins" folders now on my system! Less fun trying to figure out which ones CS6 uses.

  • PS CS3 Noise Filter better than PSElements 6 Noise Filter ?

PS CS3 Noise Filter better than PSElements 6 Noise Filter ?

I appreciate very much you responding and clarifying to see if somebody else does know.
Actually the Noise Filter has five selections to choose from.
I'm most interested in the Dust & Scratches tool. And, very surprised not to find a lot of 'discussion' about it, in fact almost none.
This whole Dust & Scratches Removal thing has got me scratching my butt trying to figure out if any of it by any software is NOT mostly hype.
    (long reply follows)
"Retouching" tools like Dust & Scratches Removal seem to be useable only on a 1-by-1 file basis, with lots of 'manual' tweeking required, not as an Auto function to batches of lots of files at the same time.
Which in hindsight from experiences and what I've learned from those, makes sense, but, does not help me.
I have now concluded that 'retouching' some things like Dust & Scratches can only be done on a 1-file-at-a-time basis and takes quite a bit of 'manual' tweeking effort. And works IF one is capable of understanding how to do it. Otherwise, it - meaning me - only seems to make things worse instead of better.
My journey started last year when I got a German Braun Slide Scanner that included ICE, as well as Noise Reduction, which, like the included GEM and ROC only seemed to make things worse instead of better, especially worse when applying the same settings to every slide being scanned.
I have to process 100s or 1,000s of slides, and soon old photos too, at a price that most people can or are willing to pay, which is very low because of the numbers of slides and photos involved, so it's imperative for me to have Auto Tools to apply to batches of files, instead of spending a lot of time 'manually' tweeking each and every file one at a time.
With the scanner, the ICE and other tools can only be used during the actual scanning of each slide, not after scanning on the resulting file. And those 'tools' invariably remove too much, details of faces and other stuff one wants to preserve, and fuzzy the focus.
The settings that work on the very first slide or photo do not work for any other. So, I had to turn off those tools altogether.
There was a software suite recommended for the scanner for after-scanning work, which was a European version of Photoshop, costing about as much as PS, but from the Trial version I couldn't see any benefit to getting it.
I tried various Retouching programs for much less money, many not worth even trying, and again, even for those that did do what I needed to any degree, ran in to the same thing. Way too much time required for 'manually' tweeking each and every file 1 at a time, and never getting a good result because I'm no good at doing that.
THEN I recently got a Kodak Photo Scanner that does photos like the German scanner does slides, only, it does photos a LOT faster. It will scan up to 20 pre-loaded standard thickness photos of various sizes and orientations - in about 25 seconds.
But again, the problem with Dust & Scratches.
There's a program suite for after-scanning 'retouching' available for the Kodak Photo Scanner - but they want $ 700 for that, and it's pretty much a clone of Photoshop.
    SO,
when I saw the comparison list between PS CS3 and the Extended version saying the Extended has a better Noise Filter,
    It got me wondering..........

  • CS5 - Reduce Noise Filter/Remove JPEG Artifact

    Hi,
I'm using 64 bit Photoshop CS5. Something odd happens when I open the Reduce Noise Filter and select Advanced and then put a check in the box for Remove JPEG Artifact. Once I do this, if I do anything else, two sliders appear below the line for Remove JPEG Artifact. The sliders aren't labeled or titled and are disabled. I can't seem to find and explanation as to what these might be for and why they don't appear until after you do something else within the filter after checking Remove JPEG Artifact. Any info or ideas appreciated.

These seem to be drawing artifacts where the sliders from the "Per Channel" tab are not correctly hidden because the filter is not drawing the tabs in correct order. I can repro it on my system as well. Well, one more for the Adobe devs to fix, but nothing to worry about.

  • Delete Noise (Filter)

    Hi @ all,
have on my signal from the pressure sensor a horrible noise factor (it is amplified). I´m really sure that the effect comes from the ambient power wires (lights, PC etc...)
    It is 50Hz.
I tried to decimate it with a filter. It works fine... but i am not sure if i had done the right thing. The signal is read with a speed higher than 100Hz to 1.8kHz.
I attached my result and which filter i´m using.
I would be glad if anybody can give me a statement about it.
    Cheers

  • Noise Ninja Causing CS6 to Crash

I have read a previous post regarding this issue, but it did not apply to my problem, so here goes.
Attempting to run the Noise Ninja plug-in causes Photoshop to crash.
I have tried to run Noise Ninja on several 16-bit CR2 as Smart Object files (opened from ACR) and a 16-bit TIFF as Smart Object file (opened from Photoshop) and each time after the 'Profiling Image' step completes and the Noise Ninja dialog box opens, Photoshop crashes. I have tried using both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the plug-in (in there respective versions of Photoshop) and the same thing happens.
The Plug-ins have been installed properly using the manufacturer's installer.
I have tried rebooting my computer.
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Noise Ninja.
    I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling CS6.
I haven't encountered any other issues.
Noise Ninja still works fine in CS5.

The root cause of this issue has been traced to an apparent bug in the public beta version of CS6.  Its been reported to Adobe and they are looking at it.    There were no issues with CS6 m.122 and this problem started with the public beta release (m.415).     Noise Ninja should not be crashing Photoshop because of this problem however.  It should merely report an error processing the image.    PictureCode will release an update very soon.  The update will fix the crash of CS6 and I expect it to have a workaround for the CS6 problem as well.

  • Major features of Liquify Filter in CS6 are not working properly.

The Liquify filter in PS 13.0 x64 does not work correctly.  The Forward Warp, Magnify and Hand tools work okay, but the rest of them procuce the same strange effect of a jumbled combination of swirl and black on white dot patterns. ending with a circular "transparent" pattern. I have just installed after removing 5.5 and using the Adobe Cleaning Tool. There were multiple errors in the installation log file, which I saved. I'm running Win 7 fully patched and up to date. I have a Toshiba Tecra wiith 6GB of RAM and an ATI Radeon DH 6450M GPU.
    Here is a screen shot:
All three of the non-functioning tools begin with a swirly pattern quickly being jumbled by dots and checkerboard. If you hold the click for a few seconds it ends up looking like the above image.
Could sure use some help. I use the liquify filter a lot and I don't want to waste a fortune by going back to CS55.

Tested video cards for Photoshop CS6
Adobe tested the following video cards before the release of Photoshop CS6. This document lists the video card by series. The minimum amount of RAM supported on video cards for Photoshop CS6 is 256 MB.
Note: Adobe tested laptop and desktop versions of the following cards. Be sure to download the latest driver for your specific model. (Laptop and desktop versions have slightly different names.)
    nVidia GeForce 8000, 9000, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 series
    nVidia Quadro 400, 600, 2000, 4000 (Mac & Win), CX, 5000, 6000
    AMD/ATI Radeon 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 series
    AMD/ATI FirePro 3800, 4800, 5800, 7800, 8800, 9800, 3900, 4900, 5900, 7900
Intel Intel HD Graphics, Intel HD Graphics P3000, Intel HD Graphics P4000
Note: ATI X1000 series and nVidia 7000 series cards are no longer being tested and are not officially supported in CS6 – some basic GL functionality may be available for both these cards.

  • Where can I find the Camera Raw Filter in CS6?

I would like to know where I can find the camera raw filter in Photoshop CS6 Student Version? I used the PS CC testversion and really liked working with this filter and miss it now. Can anyone help me?

The Camera Raw filter isn't in Photoshop CS6. That is one of the new features that has been added to Photoshop CC. Photoshop CS6 is not going to have any enhancements added to it. The development cycle is finished for CS6.

  • Graphic Noise in Dreamweaver CS6 Interface

I've got this weird graphic noise issue that appears quite often in Dreamweaver CS6. Anyone else have this issue, or know a fix for it? Doesn't effect functionality, but its quite annoying considering I paid so much for the software.

Does it happen only in the area you have shown in screenshot for DW Interface or is it in any of the Panels as well?
This issue also randomly scrambles images that are in the Split and Design views.
Regarding this, have a look here http://forums.adobe.com/message/5439324

  • Scale difference between Camera Raw and Lens Correction Filter in CS6

I have the latest Camera Raw plugin (8.6.0.254). When I open an NEF file from a D800, the resulting image is 4912x7360 pixels, whether I apply distortion correction or not.
If I load the NEF file, do not apply distortion correction in Camera Raw, but then apply it via the Lens Correction Filter, the image must be rescaled to approximately 4840x7252 (some 98.53%) so that it matches the results of the Camera Raw plugin (minus the missing pixels around all four sides, of course).
Anyone else notice this (particularly in newer versions of Photoshop)? Is there a way to prevent this cropping? The amount of distortion on the lens (35mm) is minimal and, regardless of that, I would have expected Camera Raw and the Lens Correction filter to output identical images after distortion correction, since the lens profile is the same.

To see if that can be replicated, we'd need to now the exact version of CS6 you're running (e.g. on Mac you should be on Photoshop CS6 13.0.6) and the exact version of your OS.

  • Resize brush in the liquify filter, photoshop cs6 Mac (13.0.4)

    Hello,
I just update to photoshop cs6 (Mac 13.0.4). Unfortunately, it's not possible anymore to resize brush in the liquify filter by "CTRL-Option-drag" like I did before in former CS6 version.
Has anyone encountered the same problem ?
    Many thanks for your help.

    its not ctrl+option+drag
its ctrl+option+shift and launch your ps, delete the
    setting file when prompted.
    open your photoshop.
