Noise from DAQ signals sent through a 2532 switch

Hello,
I may have a hopeless case here, but it's worth a shot....
I am trying to send DAQ analog voltage time traces through a 2532b switch, and then to my DUT. When I measure the DUT without the switch, my noise level is very low. When I route signals through the switch to the DUT, the noise is increased (as expected) but to a degree that makes this system totally useless for my application. Is the 2532 not designed to route analog signals? Can I hope to send analog signals through my switch with say a doubling in noise instead of a 15x increase in noise?
I have posted a schematic of how my system is configured. Note that wherever possible, I am using BNCs. I even threaded the 2532 ribbon cables through a 1/2 in. tinned copper braid, so the system is about as well shielded as is possible with this hardware. I've also posted signal sent to the DUT (in this case a dummy 1Mohm resistor) using a 1Mhz sampling rate.
Thanks, everyone!

Hi Frank,
Sorry I should have included more information. The DAQ is outputting a voltage signal, for example a 1Hz 1V sin wave. This signal serves as the external voltage source for a potentiostat, such that the potentiostat sources the signal it receives from the DAQ. The potentistat has hi and low leads (working electrode and counter electrode) which are routed through the switch before going to the DUT. The potentiostat then measures the actual applied voltage and the measured current and outputs them as voltage signals which are fed directly into the DAQ.
The breakout boxes are all shielded and so are the cables. The DUT is in a faraday cage.
As far as noise sources, the building ground is not terrific but it is pretty good. 60hz noise is present, but the fft spectrum of the noisy signal also contains prominent signals at 80kHz and higher. The potentiostat is designed for high bandwidth, low current applicaitons and so has very favorable noise. The PXIe is the only computer on in the room, and all electronics are plugged into a isolated power supply (it think it is generically called a UPS). I've turned off all other equipment in the room including the lights.
Anyways, the noise only shows up when I route the signal from the potentiostat through the switch. When I send the signal from the potentiostat directly to the DUT, the noise is great (see attachments in previous posts). I would blame the extra noise on a ground loop except that as I have set it up, routing the signal through the switch does not introduce any extra paths to ground.
Thanks for taking a look at this!

  • Encypting Pdf document sent through email from BO WEBI

    Hi,
Encypting Pdf document sent through email from BO WEBI . Is there any sdk scripts/3rd part tools to do this.
    Thanks
    Ranjith

    Hello Ranjith,
There is no native functionality for encrypting a PDF document from within BusinessObjects Enterprise. Additionally, none of the BOE SDKs are able to encrypt a PDF document either. Generally speaking, if it is not possible in the product (BOE) it's not possible with the various SDKs.
I am not aware of any third party tools that can do this from inside BOE either. If you haven't done so already you may want to post a question to the [Business Objects Board|http://www.forumtopics.com/busobj/index.php?sid=1037068e7b26619422be6a7b18a8c2ee] (BOB) to see if anyone there has a suggestion.

  • Need help : Reading from DAQ through TCP/IP ?!!

    Hello
I have two machines running labview connected to a network. Basically,
I want to read data from a temperature sensor through a DAQ card
from one machine, and be able to plot the data in a chart in the
other machine. I'm trying to use TCP/IP feature to do that but it's not
    working.
There is a VI in the tcp.lib "simple data client.vi " and
"simple data server.vi" that does the same thing except that
the data are of type double generated from a sine function and
a random number generator. So i tried to do the same but since
the data read from the DAQ has a thick brown line (not sure what
type) the task was not easy. In the server part i tried to broadcast
3 things through (tcp write.vi): The type of the data, the l
    ength of the
string, and the data itself. On the client side i read (tcp read.vi)
these things and plot the data. But i'm not getting any output on the chart.
I had to use (Type Cast), (flatten to string) and (unfatten from string)
in order to get the right wiring. Both VIs run but there is no output
    on the chart.
I know it's hard to explain in words, but if anyone is interested i can
give more detai or send the vis to him to look at them. They seem very simple and
straight forward but i don't know why they don't work.
    Appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    Sami

Try running the "Remote Device Access Server" (RDA) on hte machine that has the DAQ card in it. You'll find it in NI-DAQ folder under National Instruments in your Start Menu. (guessing you're running Windows here?)
With this running, you can start MAX on any machine on the network and access and configure the DAQ cards in the remote machine and program an applicaiton just as if the DAQ cards were local. You'll need to know either the remote machines IP address or network name.
I've used it quite a bit and have never had a problem. The Help inside MAX gives good details on how to set it up and use it.

  • Filterinmg RF from analog signals

I am writing the control software for a system that uses RF (running at 72MHz) as a major component. None of our signals have harwdare filters and for software I am sampling 100 samples at 1k Hz. I average those samples and update every 250ms.
Using language a ME can understand, can someone help me understand how RF can influence our signals and what options I have to filter that noise (harwdare and software). Or at least point me to a good resource.
    Doug Ferguson
    www.southerndaqsolutions.com
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Doug,
Here is the ME version of RF interference.  The radio transmitter/antenna combination creates electromagnetic waves in the space surrounding the antenna.  Think of dropping a stone into a pond of water.  The wave analogy is reasonable for basic understanding. A leaf floating on the pond will move up and down with the wave.  If you put a float on the water and connect it to solid ground through a gearbox, you can extract energy from the waves.
In your DAQ system two things are required to produce interference. 1. The RF wave must be coupled into the system. 2. The RF energy must reach a point where some non-linear device converts the very high frequency sine waves into some form which the low frequency DAQ system can measure. (2.a. There is one more complicated way interference can occur without a non-linearity - undersampling).
How can coupling occur? The wavelength of an electromagnetic signal in free space is the speed of light divided by the frequency.  For 72 MHz the wavelength is 4.17 m.  An antenna 1/4 wavelength long can couple to the electromagnetic wave very effectively.  Are any of the wires in your system about 1 meter long?  USB cable? It is quite likely that you have some very nice antennas.  If the voltage coming out of any of these antennas reaches about 0.5 V, it will be enough to cause internal diode junctions in any semiconductor device (like amplifiers, multiplexers, and analog/digital converters) to conduct.  This conduction is non-linear and will produce a DC voltage out for the RF input.  This voltage gets summed (with unknown polarity) with the signals you want to measure, prodcuing errors.
What can you do about it?  Turn off the transmitter will solve the problem, but since it is needed for other purposes, that is not an option.  Since the signals of interest are very low frequency, it should be fairly easy to eliminate the interference.  Three general principles apply.  First is to eliminate the source, which has already been ruled out.  However, check to see if the transmitter power can be reduced without compromising the performance of the RF system. Second is to reduce the coupling.  If possible keep the transmitting antenna as far as possible from the source of your slow signals and the wires connecting to your DAQ system. Orientation of the wires and antenna can help also.  There are too many combinations to try to even give general directions on this without more information about the physical configuration of your system.  Shielding is a big part of the reduction of coupling principle and works well at 72 MHz.  All wires from your signal source(s) to the DAQ and from the DAQ to the computer should be shielded. The shields should be grounded.  Just make sure that you do not create ground loops in the process which can lead to other problems.  Connect everything to one ground using a "star" grounding system.  The third principle is to reduce the interferring signals by filtering. I would try putting a ceramic capacitor of about 100 nF from each signal line to ground at the input to the DAQ, keeping the capacitor leads as short as possible.  If your signal sources have very high impedances or are inductive, you may need to have an EE evaluate the appropriate filtering.  The advantages of capacitors are: Cheap!, simple to install, will reduce RF interference over a broad frequency range, require no tuning, and generally are pretty effective.
Depending on how severe the problems are, it may be quite straightforward to eliminate your interference or it could require a major redesign of the whole system.

  • Bizarre High-pitched noise from K8N-NEO *I have read the other posts*

    Hello.
I just got a new system to build, but it has decided to pee in my Wheaties.
    Here are the specs:
    MSI Neo Platinum
    Nvidia 6800 video
    Athlon64 3200
    Kingston Hyperx PC3200
    Antec Tru430 - 430watt
    +5   +12    +3
    36A  26A    28A
The board, CPU, memory, and video are installed in a new Antec case.  The CPU is installed properly and I am using some ArticSilver 5 paste.
When the board posts, I hear a horribly loud and high pitched squeal.  It sounds like a smoke detector going off.
I have read a number of posts regarding loud noise from the MOSFETS or from a loose chipset heatsink or as a result of a poor power supply.  I think that this power supply should be adequate and the noise seems to be too loud to be a result of a loose component.
The board appears to go through the post procedure and stops on the "processor initialization" stage.  After about 2 seconds of being powered on the video fans stops spinning.  The HS Fan (which is the one that came with the retail package) does not appear to be spinning at full speed, neither is it running too slowly.  As a result, I have not put power to the board for more than a few seconds (fear of heat damage, though the HS never gets warm...)
I am at a loss here.  I have reseated everything several times, if this is a defective board then I am really irritated that it would pass QA and be sold.  Any suggestions that you could provide will be greatly appreciated.  If you prefer you can send me an email at [email protected]
    Thanks again!

  • Chirping Noise from Hard Drive Causing iMac to Freeze Up!

Hope someone can give me some pointers to figure this one out!
The computer will begin making high-pitch, squeaky chirping noises from the upper left corner (near the hard drive I think):
    http://homepage.mac.com/adamntaya/.cv/adamntaya/Sites/.Public/Chirping%20Noise.m p3-zip.zip
Then after a while it will totally freeze up and I have to reboot. It is happening more and more frequently. Already tried doing a Hardware Test, with good results. Already tried downloading MacJanitor. Already tried a PRAM Reset. Nothing has helped the problem yet.
    What can I try?
    iMac G5 20" 1.8 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   160MB HD, 1G Memory (1st Gen)

I had this exact problem, (exactly the same sound) with an eMac I had about a year ago. Our situations were the same, and after many calls and hours talking to Apple I got wound up getting a new iMac to replace to eMac, just paying the difference. They first wanted to take the computer in, which is what will happen when you call, but I would say that you would like to have a new one sent to you, as I assume you ordered it offline. Your problem and the one that I had seem to be quite rare, but nonetheless you should get a new computer.

  • Emails always are suck in outbox when sent through Apple mail

Emails always are suck in outbox when sent through Apple mail. How should I deal with it ? Many thanks!

As mentioned, Outlook is not email standards compliant. It probably never will be based on Microsoft's history. However, I think there are various issues involved in the problems people have. I often send emails from home to my Outlook account at work. I have never experienced any of the problems that I've seen posted anywhere regarding Mail and Outlook.
My conclusion is that there are issues with certain Exchange Server configurations and/or issues with your own ISP mail server causing the issues.
I do have my system set up to Always send windows friendly attachments (from what I've read, this really is 'send Outlook friendly attachments'), and always put attachments at the end. Prior to the 'always put attachments at the end,' I wasn't having any issues, either. However, I read that that setting helped with other email clients, so I use it.
The obvious question is, "well, how is your exchange server configured." I would love to provide the answer to that question; however, I work for a DoD organization, so actually tracking down the person that knows the answer to that question will take somewhere between five years and never. With my 20+ years experience with the DoD, I'm leaning towards the never end of the spectrum. The other half of the equation is, "I'm using cox as my ISP."

  • Photos sent through ePrint are washed out - Help

I just ran a test sending 3 photos from my ipad via email to my HP Envy 100 e-Printer and they all appeared washed out. I then sent the same 3 photos directly to the HP Envy 100 e-Printer using the HP iPrint app and they were nice and brilliant -- confirming that the HPePrint Server is degrading the quality of photos.
Does anybody have any guidance on how to prepare photos that will be sent through the HPePrint Server so that they will be printed by the e-printer acceptably???

    Hi slimmerjim,
    Thank you for your feedback.
There will be some degradetion print quality if you compare between ePrint and HP iPrint. ePrint is transfer the data through the Internet so the photos are printed in normal mode as compare to HP iPrint which sends the data through wireless network which are printed in best mode.
HP is aware of this issue and we are looking to improving this.
    Thank you.

  • Signal routing through audigy

can someone send me a block diagram of pci soundcard.
ie if inputs are pre or post fader and wav and midi are pre or post output fader.
    Thanks
    Jim

There isn´t really and unfortunately that flexible possibility in Logic you are asking for. For the purpose you described I am using Yamaha01x mixer/controller. I route the signal from AU instrument to Logic output, which in fact leads the signal to one of 01x channels. Than I select this 01x channel as an Input source for Audio Track. The whole signal chain stays in digital world (the signal travels through firewire cable and no AD/DA conversion is used at this stage). This way I am able to do what Pro Tools allow without workarounds, although I have to calibrate the recording offset of the system first, due to buggy OSX firewire driver.
I also like to do such things in real time. It is much more like real-tape machine work, isn´t it? No bounce, no export file as audio track(s) can compare to this as you always have to wait for the "export" first , than import it to the Arrange window and than listen to it if it is OK. Too much of useless and time consuming tasks, I agree. I hate exactly this Logic unflexibility
OK I know, no DAW is perfect...

  • Noise from MacBook Pro Retina 13 late 2013

    Hi,
I wonder if noise from my MacBook Pro Retina 13 late 2013 is normal. I can hear it only in quiet room (first time I heard it in the middle of the night).  It’s very quiet noise. I don't know what to compare this noise. For me it’s sounds like clicking the spring. I can hear it when scrolling the webpage by trackpad, start mission control by gesture (or F3 key), changing the full screen apps by gesture or when minimize Safari or other apps. I think it depends on the graphic system work. It’s a little lauder when I use 1680x1050 scaled resolution than use 'best for display' resolution. I think the noise occurs when graphic system do some operation. Is it possible?
Today I was in Authorized Service Provider but technician heard nothing. There I can't hear this noise too, because this noise is very quiet and there is not total silence. Diagnostic tools show that everything is ok. But I still hear it in total quiet room. I tried to record this noise by iPhone but it can't do that.
Can you do me a favor and check this on your MacBook? Sit in totally quiet room, please. Set the scaled resolution 1680x1050 then bring ear closer to the keyboard and scroll a webpage (which have a lot of graphics) by gesture on the trackpad, start mission control or open notification center. Can you hear then any noise? Please listen carefully, because this is very quiet noise.
I’ll be very gratefully for your help. I wonder if only my MacBook making this noises or all MacBook Retina late 2013 making this.
    Regards,
    Mateusz

    Hi Mateusz,
I have the same issue on my new MBP retina 13 late 2013. It's not disturbing because I can hear it in only very quiet room and only if the content of the screen is changing (like scrolling web pages). It reminds me the sound of old 3'5'' hard discs. I first thought it's a hdd, but then realised my mac has only SSD.
I think it's a noise from the voltage regulators. This is normal for very high speed high-voltage signals.
But any way, MBP 13 late 2013 is the best laptop I ever saw
It's just silent and cool like an ipad. I wonder if it has a rotating cooler at all.
    Jon Bo
Thank you Jon Bo for your response. I agree with you. This noise is something like electronic noise, and it is related to the graphics card.
The rMBP 13 late 2013 works without any noise other then situations I’ve described above. The noise is so quiet that I can't hear it when e.g. external HDD working in the same room.

  • High pitch whine noise from speakers and other issues

I just got a 2010 Mac Mini and transferred all of my data and apps and accessories from my old Mac Mini which was running 10.6.4 (2007 I think). One of the accessories is a Griffin Firewave. I had to get a new firewire cable to attach the Firewave since the new Mac Mini has a firewire 800 port. On the old Mac it worked great, I was able to run 5.1 speakers with no problem. With the new Mac things aren't so nice. I get a high pitch whine through the speakers. The whine will go up and down in volume with the volume control on my sound system (Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra) as well as with the Mac volume control. I can increase the gain in the Firewave app which will increase the volume of what I want to hear without increasing the volume of the whine, however it will cause the audio I want to hear to distort. The other issue I have is that when I put the Mac to sleep it seems to cut all power to the firewire port, causing the Firewave to turn off and lose its settings. I believe this to be a bad design on the Firewave's part but the old Mac did not shut off the power to the firewire port when going to sleep so this was not an issue. So my questions are, does anyone else have problems with external sound cards having a high pitch whine noise and is there a way to prevent the firewire port from turning off when the Mac sleeps?
BTW, I have tried reinstalling the Firewave driver (several times) and I've unplugged and re-plugged the firewire cable at both ends. I have both the Mac and the sound system plugged into a line conditioner so I doubt it's dirty power. I do realize that the Firewave only claims support up to 10.5 but it was working without issue on the old Mac Mini on 10.6

I have the same problem. I have an early 2009 Mac mini and get the whiny noise from my powered speakers. The volume of the whine noise tends to change smoothly up or down, and often does a stuttering effect along with it. It stays there for up to a minute or so and then eventually goes away. It always seems to happen at random times.
I've heard this same sound effect coming from a podcast that I was listening to on my iPod Touch. It seems that the interviewer was recording from a Mac mini as well, though not sure. The sound in the recording was exactly like what I hear coming from my Mac mini. I often thought that this was a problem with my speaker system, but was surprised to find that others are experiencing the same kind of issues.

I've encountered an issue while printing to A4 from Xerox J75 (fiery) through Mac OSX 10.9.3.
The document and printer settings are set for A4 but the print job goes to the printer as A3.
The problem only occurs while printing through Adobe Photoshop CS6.

I get into trouble if I choose A4 borderless instead of A4 in the Photoshop Print settings.
There, Tray 2 is dimmed out
To be honest, I don't see borderless in your settings, but my  doing that on my printer causes a default to the larger Tray 1.
That's all I have tonight. If I think of anything else, I'll post it.  Here's thread on this issue as well.

Experts on oracle mesaging gateway and AQ, Please help.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sachin

    Hello,
your setup of the message gateway seems to be ok.
Did you check the corresponding versions of the client libraries (*.jar) ? These are the libraries on
db server side (e.g. aqapi.jar, based on your CLASSPATH entries in file "mgw.ora") and for the IBM MQ jars.
    Kind regards,
    WoG
