  • Crackling and hissing noises in background of podcast audio

I've just recorded the audio for a podcast (two-person interview), and as I've listened back I've found an annoying crackling noise in the background at a few points. Any ideas about how to remove (or at least minimise) it? Also, at some points there is a kind of hissing noise in the background (almost like the distant sound of crickets!) - any tips on minimising or removing that?

Thanks for the reminder Richard and yes, I had done that via the "common" folder and cleaned out all the cache in the various folders. The result was negative, still had the issue.
So, I decided to move all audio (about 16 mins) on track 1 down to track 2, leaving track 1 completely empty of audio. Then I muted track 1.
The issue was happening at around 4:20secs into the audio. Interestingly, when testing Pr crashed when the playhead reached 4:20secs, right at the spot that I was getting the old "deleted" audio in the background with a lot of crackle. I restarted my Mac completely and repeated the process of moving all audio to track 2 etc etc... and once again Pr crashed at 4:20secs.
    What to do?
I copied the piece of audio giving me issues from track 2 and pasted it into track 1. I first pasted it away from the problem area (4:20secs) and there was no "old deleted audio in the background with a lot of crackle" to be heard. :-) So I moved this piece of audio and placed it right above the 4:20secs problem area and reduced the audio volume to -infinity. I also muted track 1 again.
Then I played the entire video... and, Pr didn't crash and the "old deleted audio in the background with a lot of crackle" was gone. Gone kinda, because this is a work around and the issue is still there but suppressed for now. I have no idea why it happened and a more technical solution is totally welcome.
What do you think about the above Richard? Hope it made sense? Felt like it took 25 years to sort this out...

  • What is best filter to decrease crowd noise from background of live band recording?

I have a video of live musicians, the camera picked up more of the ambient crowd noise than I had expected.  Does anyone know of a good track effect that would reduce the crowd noise without compromising the music quality?
    Thanks,
    Sam

Since noise tends to have a very broad frequency spectrum, I don't see good chances to reduce the noise without affecting the music.

  • MSI Vox: major humming noise in background

    Hey folks,
I'm new to the forum and have a major problem. While the sound is playing there is a major humming distortion in the background. I've connnected the Vox on 2 individual systems and it occurs on both. I'm curious, I wonder if the "optional power supply" would cure the problem or if it's something else? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!!

    Hey ffulkerth,
I had to pay for the shipping on the unit. Your right, it should have been shipped with the
Vox to begin with. All competitor's product's are shipped with the power supply.
Yes, I did get the new version of msipvs 3. It's working out great, it's improved everything but
the sound issue, ha, how ironic!! I'm sure the power supply is going to remedy that. Ha, with fingers crossed!!
It's incredible the things I've done and tried, but it doing the same thing on 2 systems leads me to believe it's the
    power to the unit.
Thanks for pointing the new version out though!!
Man, it's great when you get a forum that has good people that help others out.
    Cheer's man!!

  • Static & Crackiling Noise in Background

    Hi,
I am recording some vocals and after recording I export to itunes. When I playback, there is a constant cracking noise every one second or so.
I have an imac G5 and am just using the built in microphone. Are there some settings I need to adjust to avoid this?
    Thanks

If the last bar in any of GB's meters lights up it means you're "Clipping" and it will sound like that. Could this be the problem?

  • Satellite A500-13F - strange noise when background changes

    I hear "zzzzzzzzz" when the background change and when i switch from open page to other one;
I tried to change the audio driver from realtek but it doesn't work and when i played, it be very strong and get high...
    Please help me !!!

    Hi
As far as I know the Realtek sound driver install additional Realtek HD audio Manager which contains a lot of different settings which could change the sound properties.
Usually you can find the Realtek HD audio manager in control panel.
Please check all the possible options
Otherwise it would be advisable to contact an ASP technician for hardware check
I mean if this issue still persists even after system recovery, then a hardware check should be done

  • Isolate and remove background noise

    Hi everybody,
I made a voice recording of a luncheon I had with my colleges dean using my iPod and as I listen to it the iPod touches headphone mic picked up a lot of background chatter in the lunch room. I am curious if there is software out there (preferably something I could try before I buy) that would help me isolate and edit out that background chatter and noise?

This virtually eliminates any quiet noise, including background music and speech.
So what exactly does this achieve? The OP wants to keep the speech...

I would suggest to anybody in this situation that they head over to AudioMasters, and read all of the Audition FAQs very carefully, and don't post anything at all unless there is something that they seriously don't understand. Posting answers to questions whilst not in posession of any basic information about what's possible and not possible with audio processing and why is just going to make you look pretty stupid.

  • Moving/vibrating background pixels when watching a DVD

Ive noticed when watching a DVD (its the only video test ive run), that there is all this "noise" in background, or on still objects (say it curtain). it looks as though very tiny pixels vibrating alot. (they are whatever colour the environment is), so its basically just distortion of whatever im looking at. they move really really fast. Is this normal? I expected the picture to be sharp and crystl clear.

Just from looking at your picture I would say it is a "film grain".
Most feature movies are shot on wet film, not digital and the noise is natural.
A lot of movies shot in HD are post-processed to add the film grain, just to make them look more natural. In short, not seeing any pixelation or colour banding in your shot - this is exactly what the DOP had in mind - film grain.

  • Anyone having crackle or sizzle noise from the iPhone 4S ear speaker?

Anyone else getting a hissing or crackling noise during phone calls?  It happens in doors, outdoors, and is independent of hand position.  Sounds like electrical noise.  This is my second brand new 4S to do it.
Any solutions besides hard and soft resets or restores?  Tried that already.

I have chat with apple support chat details below there no solutions from apple for crackling noise
TaneyThanks for contacting AppleCare chat support. My name is Taney. Please give me a moment to look over your information.
    Me:hi
Me:am using iPhone 4s receiver crackling noise issue
    TaneyHello there!
    Me:yes
TaneyUh oh! That's never a fun issue to experience and I'm glad to help you in any way that I possibly can, right here over chat, you're in the right place.
Me:i have replaced more then 4 times
    Me:same problem remains
Me:i asking what i have to do
Me:many of apple users experienced same issue and they register complaint in apple site
    Me:but no solutions
    Me:hello there ?
TaneySo your receiver crackles and you've replaced this iPhone more than 4 times for that same issue, is that what you're meaning? Just wanting to make sure.
    Me:yes
TaneyI appreciate your time with me while I research our best next step to take from here. That almost sounds like maybe it's not the hardware or maybe you should get a replacement SIM card. Have you asked your carrier or replaced the SIM card for this issue?
Me:i have replaced 5 different sim cards and different networks but noise coming
    TaneyDifferent networks like different carriers?
    Me:yes
Taneyin that case it sounds like it's probably related to your region or possibly whoever you are contacting.
TaneyI don't see any previous cases with us here for this iPhone, I wonder if I have the proper device here, unless you're referring to replacing them on your own and not through Apple.
Me:uh oh did you check your apple site many of apple uses post this same issue

TaneyYou can submit product feedback about this at apple.com/feedback. We have a team here at Apple, who's entire job is dedicated to reviewing this feedback, and escalating it to the proper outlets (such as the engineers for iTunes, iPhone, iPad, etc.), so you can rest assured that your voice will be heard! The more feedback we receive about product features, the more likely we are to implement them!
TaneyIt sounds like you've tried so many things, I'm not sure what might be a different resolution for you and this crackling issue. Different phones, carriers, SIM cards, and probably all amounts of troubleshooting. Would you want to try some things here with me now?

Me:but this silly issue irritating me when on voice call
TaneyThank you. Please allow me just a moment to contact some additional support for us and we may bring them into our chat for some insight.
Taneyit's only on cellular calls or do you experience the issue with anything else? If you toggle to speakerphone, does it continue with the call or become clear?
    Me:issue only in ear receiver
Me:there is no issue in headphone or speaker phone
TaneySo if you switch to speaker during a call, there is no crackling noise? That sounds strange. That would normally point to a hardware concern, but that wouldn't make sense considering you've tried several different iPhones and all of the other troubleshooting.
TaneyNot sure, we'll see what our consultant suggests we do from here. Thanks for being so awesomely patient.
TaneyWhat would you like for us to do, as the best goal that you had in mind?
Me:i think this very simple issue for apple, Please fix all your feature product
TaneyIt doesn't sound like the devices are likely to be the reason for what you're experiencing. I wish there was an easier answer but I am reviewing your case with another advisor right now and we'll see what additional information we can find for you.
TaneyIt could even be related to the iPhone 4s.
    TaneyUpgrading could be an alternative.
    Me:that i dont know
Me:i didnt check any other phone
    Me:upgrading means ?
TaneyPerhaps the technologies in your region/s are better suited for a newer iPhone model. I don't want to make promises but I would suggest visiting a carrier location and maybe trying a 5 or above and see if you still experience the issue.
TaneyThey can usually give you some kind of trade or other options for your 4s to get value towards upgrading.
    Me:okay but check this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3414732?tstart=0
    Me:also this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3414732?start=60&tstart=0

    Me:iPhone 5 https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5972811
TaneyI do see those threads. I don't want you to keep experiencing the crackling noise issue anymore. I wouldn't like that on my calls either.

TaneyCan I have you speak with my friend, Joseph?
TaneyI'll bring him over whenever you're ready.
    Me:am from india
    Me:am ready
TaneyThank you.JosephThanks for contacting AppleCare chat support. My name is Joseph. Please give me a moment to look over your information.
    JosephHi there Ponsubbiah!
    Me:yes
JosephI understand that you’re having a lot of trouble with your iPhone 4S, even after multiple service replacements there is still trouble with the receiver, a crackling noise that has not been solved yet. Is that correct?
    Me:yes you are correct
JosephThat is absolutely terrible to hear, especially after so many service attempts at this, this really is an unfortunate issue.
JosephI am thinking an upgrade could be possible for this, something to consider. Have you had an opportunity to test with newer iPhone models?
Me:last week also i went to apple store for this issue but they said we cannot do any more said sorry simply
JosephThey cannot do anymore service replacements?
Me:are you sure is upgrade is only solutions but what you will say for these posts Me:iPhone
    Me:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5972811
JosephIn your experience with the iPhone 4S so far, I think trying a newer model could work better for you, not to say it is the only solution but replacement for you so far has not been successful.
    Me:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6586599
    JosephHaving a look now
JosephHave you had a chance to use a new model?
Me:am sorry just a month before i have paid for replacement
JosephYou paid for the last replacement? Sorry, I don’t know the full details for your service.
    Me:yes
    Me:because warranty period is over
JosephMakes sense, this isn’t good though, not for you.
JosephTrying to think about what we could do, have you spoke with our support there in India, by phone?
Me:yes but no use of it
Me:so apple wont fix this issue right?
Me:you people check often apple support communities
JosephIt’s difficult to fix an issue like this, it doesn’t seem to affect all devices, I’ve never seen it affect so many devices in a row.
JosephYes, it is something we monitor closely to keep log of specific problems.
Me:if you do this issue will not repeat your new product
JosephIt isn’t something i’ve experienced personally with my own devices, but i’m trying to understand it. Is it only with certain contacts?
Me:i never expect this from apple, dont know what to say
    Me:no for all
JosephCan you describe it for me?
Me:when i am talking with someone in ear speaker stat crackling noise in background if we are in very silent place the noise we can hear clearly
JosephBoth of you can hear it?
Me:no, in my phone only. the same sim card i have used in NOKIA mobile but there no noise in this
JosephDo you use a case on your iPhone's?
    Me:yes
    Me:okay. any suggestions or solutions?
JosephHonestly, I think at this point, using a different model. One of our newer ones to see if your experience improves would be best.
JosephIt sounds like something is interfering with your conversations, a crackling noise like that isn’t normal at all. Testing without a case could help.
Me:I dont think so again go for apple. If i face same issue in new one then i loose my money. anyway thank you for your reply.
JosephAppreciate you letting us know about the problem, it definitely helps us keep track of them, even for previous models.
JosephIf you have time later please reach out to us by phone and we can see about more options in this.
    Me:Thank you Jo. Bye.
    JosephPlease take care now

  • Strange behavior with Premiere and effects in CS6

    Hello
I created a PS file with several layers of a subject for a TV show idea i am preparing for a presintation but every time a render my effects are not as i see them., speciffialy the 8-16 point Garbage mattes and keying.
The PS files where dragged and dropped into Premiere and as Sequences to maintin them in folders and in a Nested Sequence.,
Then i sort of sequences masked PS layers, using Ultra key to punch out the greene screen,  8/16 point Gabrage mattes to take out any other noise or background images un wanted, MOJO to warm up the subject i then placed the sequence as a NESTED sequence in my time line, but when i would render the Garbage Mattes, keying and all would be partially showing a previous tweek, but when i open the nested Sequence i would not see these errors or older tweeks, yet in the main Sequence aka composition i would see them yet when i would place the mouse over the time line to select an area for the position to play they would go away again,
    sounds like a bug?

There must be bugs in the Zoom effect code -- I changed the
Zoom to Resize in the above code, and it works perfectly. Of
course, Resize is not as nice as Zoom because you can't set the
resize to be around the center of the image, but at least it works.
Does anyone know about bugs in the Zoom effect?

  • How do I make two audio clips from different mics sound the same in premiere?

I have a video I am working on. we used two different mic and camera options. One is a lavaliere mic that was too hot and picked up a lot of fuzz, and the other was an on board mic that was just a little echoey from the office walls. I found that some clips were better on different versions. so I want to put the two different sets next to each other in video and make the sound be the exact same. That way no one notices the differences in audio.
    Any help is appreciated.

Hi. Although not perfect, I'd add an audio mixer effect and adjust the highs, mids & lows on both of them to help their audio, respectively, sound more similar. Often when I shoot, my Boom mike (backup) is much fuller sounding than the lavs. are. Lavs are inherently lacking in the low end, and the boom is often too hot on the low end. So I would add Audio Mixer effect, and lower the low end on the boom slightly, and highten the low and mids just a bit on the lavs. Even taking a little highs off the lavs makes it sound a bit more like the boom.
As far as echo is concerned, you probably can't do to much about that unless you have an external graphic equalizer/limiter. Lot's of times I just add  some music in the background, which helps a lot to hide echo from the mics.
Finally if you tape/record/film in a location that has lots of background noise like, background people, cars or rain or wind or general white noise "hiss", then you should record a minute or two of the location without any dialogue. This is is known as "Wala" recording. You can add a little of this to your whole track, or just on the mike track that doesn't seem to pick up the ambient sound, thus making it sound more like your other mike.
    I hope this helps.

  • Problem with Dolby ac3 playback

The have the stereo soundtrack for my video in .aiff format and it was made with the typical splicing together of different takes etc. The .aiff track sounds fine but when I compress it using A.Pack to a Dolby Stereo (2 channel), 192kbps, -31dBFS, no compression preset- on playback (on my Powerbook speakers!) I get every hiss and crack, ambience noise and edit splice noise that you can't hear in the original .aiff (it's there, but you can't hear it at normal playback.
Can another setting help this or am I stuck with this if I use Dolby stereo?

It's well worth simply opening the file in peak and saving it out wiht a different file name to see if that improves things, however Peak also has a lot of tools which will help you reduce background noises, clicks, etc. It also operates with VST plug ins, of which there are many freely available on the net.
I also use Bias Soundsoap (both as a Peak plug in and as a stand alone app) and can't tell you how many times that has helped me improve audio from dodgy sources! That's well worth considering for cleaning up your audio as well.
Peak's display of the audio is pretty good -it makes it easy to see the noises and background rumbles. You can edit the audio far more finely than you can in FCP.

  • Capacity question for participant live video

The marketing for Adobe Connect shows 15 people online with video at the same time. However, an administrator at my institution says that having more than 5 or 6 people can become problematic. What are your experiences with capacity, clarity of voice, noise in background, etc.? How many people can I expect to have live at the same time on video?
    thanks
    lisaanne100

It all comes down to bandwidth. Since there is no limit on how many individuals can be sharing their camera and audio, you should be able to share as many as the internet connection can handle. However, there is a line between possible and reasonable.
You should be able to accommodate more concurrent live videos than concurrent live audio streams.
When breaking the 5-6 number for live video, I'd switch down to the lowest quality video, so that I have a better chance of getting the clean videos delivered to everyone. Consider whether or not everyone needs to be on a live video stream. Do you need to see people sitting there drinking water, picking their nose, or looking bored? Usually only the individuals that are actively speaking justify a live video.
Audio through VoIP is like audio through radios. There is a single audio stream and everyone's audio gets compressed into that single stream. So if you have more than 3-5 individuals talking, it will just sound like noise with no easy way to distinguish one person from another. If the group is well behaved you can get more people to have hot mics at once, but only one or two people should be talking at any given time. Additionally, multiple hot mics will increase the likelihood of an echo or a feedback loop. Like the video, only the individuals who are speaking should have their mic on and broadcasting. This is why the raise hand feature is in Connect, so other individuals can indicate that they have something to say, and the host can give them the ability to do so at the appropriate time.

  • How do you edit the audio to reduce feedback heard?

Hello - I videotaped someone talking, and I am in FCE now editing it. When I turn up the volume as loud as it will go on my computer I hear a lot of feedback or a constant noise that takes away from the person talking. I know I need to work on this when I am videotaping, and you can't hear it unless you have a hearing problem and need the volume really loud, but I would like to take that constant noise out if I can. Is there anyway to edit this? Thank you for your thoughts.

Feedback and 'constant noise' (aka background noise) are two very different phenomena. Removing feedback is nearly impossible. Removing background noise (which based on your description is what I think you have) can be done by either SoundSoap or Audacity.
In the future, you can reduce or eliminate background noise by putting a mic close to your desired sound source (the person speaking/singing, the orchestra, etc.) It will be better to do it that way (at the source) than during post production.
