Noise made when (dis)connecting the charger

Hi,
just got my Z1C 2 days ago - very happy with it but my main frustration is the annoying noise which the phone makes when I plug it in or disconnect the charger.
I doubt it is relevant but so far I only use the magnetic charhing point - does it also occur with the micro-USB charger?
if it cannot be switched off then I might turn all the notifications or alerts off - does anyone know what "type of noise" the Xperia classes this as?
I hope I can switch it to silent!
Thanks,
P

Thanks alexdon for your help - and everyone else.
I still haven't worked out what the noise is although it is still an issue - I'd like to be able to plug it in (prefereably on the magnetic dock) at night next to my bed, but the noise will wake my wife!
I've been travelling for a week - hence the lack of focus on this for the last few days, but I'll now try to get to the bottom of it.
Has anyone who's reading this thread got a Z1 Compact and no noise when (dis)connecting a charger?
In Europe / UK?
The most frustrating thing is that it even happens in SILENT mode - all noises, ringtones, notifications OFF and it still makes a "clunk" when connecting and a "beep" when disconnecting"!
I tried the SAFE MODE boot and the noises were the same!
I'm not sure how to find out whether Vodafone have implemented this in some firmware (though I still think it's unlikley as there's no other hard / soft branding visible).
It is a company mobile and comes via a 3rd party Vodafone reseller.  They are not particularly good technically when it comes to any specific phone, but I did ask them.  Their answer was that they haven't come across these noises before and it might be worthwhile swapping the handset while it is less than 2 weeks old!
I think I'll take their advice!

Did you try a reset, hold the power button and home button until you see the apple then let go? Did you try to restore as new in iTunes on your computer?

  • My MacBook Pro tells me it's not charging when I connect the charger.  What do I do?

My MacBook Pro tells me it's not charging when I connect the charger.  Right now it's reading it, but other times it does not.  What do I do?

Initiating a charge cycle is a costly and disruptive operation. It is only started when the benefit to battery life exceeds the cost to battery life of a charge operation. That is usually when the battery falls below 90 percent charged.

If that doesn't work, check instructions carefully and repeat if necessary, see about taking the computer to an Apple Store and try to call ahead for Genius appointment; or contact an authorized reseller with product specialists and service.
Some users ventured into their out-of-warranty macbooks to check the actual cables going from the battery compartment to the logic board, apparently some batteries unplug. Others you can't get into.
I see following post/link says several things, can't vouch for any except ^ the SMC reset support page above: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23996241#23996241 - Also, check the right side in this recent thread for links to similar topics.
    {In order to make a backup at this late a date, you'd need power to the computer; enough to try & see if something as quaint as 'Target Disk mode' would work... If your Macbook is one with Firewire ports.}
•How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
With FW TDM, the failed computer can sometimes be powered up holding the T-key down, and a firewire icon would appear on the screen; then one could go about attaching or using a FW cable of correct type and connect it to another capable computer, then the failed computer's HDD would appear as an external drive. In the past, it was possible to clone or copy a drive from a computer that won't boot to another hard disk drive. Or at least copy stuff of that does not require the system to function along with the saved files.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Is it necessary to shutdown when dis/connecting the S-video cable?

Well, the title says it all- do I need to shut down to connect (or disconnect) an S-video cable? The manual says nothing about shutting the machine down, which makes me think it's NOT necessary. Thanks in advance for the help!
    CW

No, you don't need to shut down. Putting the PB to sleep before making or breaking the connection is a sensible precaution, but I don't think that's essential either. I've never used an S-Video connection with my PB, but I've connected and disconnected external monitors and projectors via the DVI port on my PB without shutting down or sleeping it first, with no ill effects.

  • Ipad2 shut off after down the battery but when connect the charger my ipad2 is not storing the power in the battery and i also not finding the error code ???

ipad2 shut off after down the battery but when i connect the charger with my ipad2,  its not storing the power in the battery and i also not finding the error code ???

If you drained the battery, it may take a bit for it to come back. I'd plug it in and leave it for a few hours and see if it's charging.
If not, you can try to do a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the white apple, let go and let it reset and see if it charges.
It's also possible that your battery has reached the end of its life. THey can only handle a finite amount of recharge cycles. If you can't get it to hold a charge, then make an appointment at your local apple store and explore your other options.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you have a hardware problem with the iPod. This is because as you said the same cable works with another iPod.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night.
