Noise Ninja plugin just released for Aperture

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/aperture/noiseninja.html
Any chance this will happen for Lightroom in the near future?

Unfortunately Lee_Jay that is at best a hack job and not even close to what
Adobe said they would do. They need to get off the pot with this and get it
done. Otherwise they need to be willing to add a considerable number of
features to LR including Noise Ninja like noise reduction, book printing,
better slideshow options, better web gallery options and so on.
I can understand if Adobe doesn't want to do it, but they do need to allow
third parties to do it. Without this Lightroom is only 1/4 the program it
could be. Photoshop without the plug-in support wouldn't be as popular as it
is without it.
You may not agree and that is fine, however the customer is always right and
many of this need and demand this.

    Hi there!
Yes, same problem too; I've already sent an email to apple support and just received a very vague and unpractical response with "call apple support in your country" as main advice. I've obviously emailed back stating that I need a clearer response and I don not have any intention to spend money calling for support when updates is a free tool. I do also believe this is a probem generated on Apple's end, I just wish they learned to say "sorry, it's us;  working on it!"

  • NIK plugins or wait for Aperture 4?

    Hello people,
I February my studies photography starts and I am considering buying the NIK plugins.
Aperture 3 is in February about two years old and wonder if Aperture 4 will be released soon, if it will be.
I expect much improvements in for example noise reduction and editing in general, and that is a nice addition with the plugins.
Can anyone advise me what to do best?

OT: Frank, if you should have time, could you please have a look at this thread? Aperture freezes every time it is opened.
Re: Aperture freezes every time it is opened.I ran out of ideas

  • Plugin wish list for Aperture

    Howdy, Fellow Photographers
3 cheers for the Aperture team for the 2.1 update!
    OK, back to business.
    1. I would like to see a deinterlace plugin for we editors so we can take our freeze frames into Aperture from FCP and make a nice photo to edit into our timelines. I tried dropping in Photoshop's deinterlace plugin inside the plugin folder within the package Contents folder but it didn't take.
    2. A 3D plugin to inflate (3D model/map) our photos and have the ability to use them with the different 3D camera angles in Apple's Motion. For example, a still image of a fashion model or building architecture or landscape and the ability to rotate the image in 3D space - profile, top, right, left, bottom.
    3. A plugin for web sites to modify the CSS within Aperture's Web Journal, Web Gallery and Web Page before exporting the site.

How would you compare it to Nx2's distraction removal brush, or Aperture's, or Bibble's? (Does CaptureOne-Pro have one??)
In any case, I do think Lightrooms spot remover works very well in the circumstances for which it was designed (removing lens and/or sensor specs), but I'd like to see some way of removing tree branches and beer cans too... Feathering and rotation (and shape changing) would supplement the existing DSR nicely though - no idea how much work it would be...

  • Noise Ninja 64-bit Plugin for Aperture 3

For those of you who rely on Noise Ninja, I figured the community would be interested in the news that they have finished their 64 plug-in for Aperture 3 and are in the final testing phase before release.
I wrote them yesterday, and got the following response:
    Hi Kevin,
We will make a 64 bit Aperture 3 plug-in available once we've had time to test the plug-in and installation process. The plug-in is already running. We just have to finish testing and update the web site. I do not anticipate this taking more than a week.
We will provide this release as soon as we can.
I will send you an email as soon as we have our release ready.
    Kind regards,
    Bill
    PictureCode
I have been using their application since 2004, and in Aperture since Apple introduced the plugin structure wit Version 2. IMHO, Noise Ninja is best-in-class, and great folks to deal with.

  • Noise Ninja for Aperture has been released

from the picture code site ...
+PictureCode today released a plug-in version of Noise Ninja for Apple's Aperture photo editing and management software. The plug-in allows Aperture users to employ best-of-breed noise reduction without leaving the Aperture workflow. The official release is available on the download page.+
    http://picturecode.com/news.htm#MacIntel
    http://picturecode.com/nn_aperture.htm

with regard to your PS profiles, they will work here ...
+Noise Ninja includes an automatic profile loader that attempts to select the best matching saved noise profile when you open an image. The automatic profile loader looks for a saved profile that matches the camera model, ISO setting, and image type of each image opened in Noise Ninja. The automatic profile loader looks in two folders when searching for a matching profile. It looks in the main profiles folder that is located under Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Noise Ninja for Aperture > Profiles. It also looks in the secondary per user profiles folder under Macintosh HD > Users > Username > Library > Application Support > Noise Ninja for Aperture > Profiles. The automatic profile loader looks at the camera model, ISO setting, and image type encoded into each profile's filename until it finds one that matches the image. If any of this information is missing in the image or in the profile's filename then a match cannot be made. If a match is not found then the automatic profile loader does not select a profile and Noise Ninja runs the automatic profiler to create a new profile from the image itself. You can manually select any saved profile by selecting Choose profile... from the Profile drop-down.+
you just need to create the folder and drop them in it ... then auto load will work ...

  • Use Noise Ninja in Aperture or Photoshop?

If I am going to edit an image in Photoshop (eg cloning some clutter out) and want to reduce noise, is it better to do this in Aperture with Noise Ninja and then edit with Photoshop or just send to Photoshop apply Noise Ninja and then make other edits?  Is this an option, does Aperture send the Noise Ninja edits across to Photoshop or are these lost?
I am moving to CS6 and will run 64 bit (and Noise Ninja for Mac is still 32 bit ... annoying).  Hence my interest in running NN in Aperture.
Of course if Aperture or Photoshop matched NN ...

    Very good reasons  .
OP -- do you need to use an external editor for any other edits?  If so, then use PS as the base file for all external edits.  If not ... imho it's easier (and this ease if worth something) to just launch the external editor directly from Aperture.
So _if_ you are going to edit in PS, _and_ you are going to use NN, then call NN from PS.
Put generally, I suggest that you _always_ launch external editors from PS whenever you will be using more than one.  This aggregates the edits into layers (at least I think it does) saved as a single Aperture Master.  (Each calling of an external editor creates a new Master in Aperture.)
Aside: the handling of externally edited files in Aperture violates the "non-destructive workflow".  The implemention is, imho, immature.  I'm hoping for a robust solution in the next full release of Aperture.

  • Noise Reduction question for Aperture

I recently purchased my first iMac (after years of being a windows user) and decided to try out Aperture (to use with Photoshop Elements 10 as an outside editor). I am basically an Olympus user and like the way Aperture handles the Olympus ORF RAW files a bit better than Lightroom (which I have used since it was released).
Anyway, I do think that Lightroom did a better job of handling/adjusting the noise in the higher ISO Olympus RAW files than Aperture - again just starting with Aperture.
    2 Questions:
    (1) Am I missing something or is the only Noise Reduction controls in Aperture the two sliders that come up in the Inspector column?
    (2) What is a good plug in for noise reduction that works with Aperture?
    Thanks, Steve

    People like Noise Ninja.

  • Aperture 3 and Noise Ninja

Has anyone heard when Noise Ninja will be updated to run Aperture 3? Right now, Aperture 3 is instructing that I run Aperture in 32-bit mode rather than 64 in order to use this plug-in but that doesn't seem to be working.

This past Wednesday (17th), I had an email exchange with a support person from PictureCode. He reported that:
"We will make a 64 bit Aperture 3 plug-in available once we've had time to test the plug-in and installation process. The plug-in is already running. We just have to finish testing and update the web site. I do not anticipate this taking more than a week.

    So soon, I suppose

  • Advice needed about lens correction plugin's for Aperture 2.1

Please can I have some advice about lens correction plugin's for Aperture 2.1?
I see that the Apple Aperture Downloads site promotes two:
    1)LensFix 4.3
An external editor. The Aperture Downloads site calls it Lens Fix 4.3 but when you go the developers site (Kekus Digital) it only shows LensFix CI is this the same thing? Am I supposed to download the PTLens database from epaperpress.com and install manually before it is any good?
    OR
    2)Edit FixLens 1.6
Their site looks very poorly designed and the link from the Apple page does not go to the Aperture plugin, you have to drill down until you find it! Does it use the exif data about your lens and the zoom setting it was on automatically or do you need to configure it each time?
Which one did you buy? Was it worth it?
    Thanks for your time!

LensFix CI is the same thing. It has the standalone version, the PS plug-in and the Aperture plug-in.
I've used LensFix via PS for a long time. It's great but... it can be a bit buggy if the image in use is 16-bit. Often it will work on the first image or two and then crash on the next.
I am told it's not compatible with PS CS4.
Another option is PTLens. It's also a PS plug-in and an Aperture plug-in. It's supposed to be CS4 compatible.
    http://epaperpress.com/ptlens/index.html
It uses the same database of lens corrections as LensFix.
FWIW, I've tended to do this kind of work in Photoshop, either round tripping an image in Aperture or exporting an image from Aperture. Since Aperture plug-ins are going to 16-bit Tiff files anyway and since most images (if they are final files for clients) need some more PS work, I just go that route.

  • Aperture + noise ninja?

I'm shooting RAW with an S2-PRO and am experiencing a lot of noise in the shadows, including annoying linear patterns. I tried my best to eliminate it with aperture's noise tools with no success. Finally resorted to a round trip to photoshop and noise ninja more or less fixed the problem. My question is, will aperture support noise ninja as a plug-in someday? Duplicating masters with round trips seems crazy with the excellent file management that aperture has. Please consider it aperture? Thanks. Yes, this is my first post!

I hope so. Aperture NR works well for most of my images, but recently I had to resort to what you described. Noise Ninja saved the day. Any time I don't have to store a full Photoshop image I'm grateful.

  • I have installed hydra express plugin for Aperture many time with no success

I have installed hydra express plugin for Aperture many time with no success. When I select edit with plugin hydra, the make an HDR image with hydra appears. When I hit the process button a message states that hydra is not found. I have checked in my application support folder. There is no plugin folder for aperture or a hydra plugin.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Plug-ins get installed in one of two locations.
    ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/Edit
    or
    /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/Edit
The second is for all users of the machine and is located in the root folder of your system drive (often "Macintosh HD").
The first is your private library (note the ~ symbol which a shortcut to your user folder) and means the plugin is just for you. ~/Library is hidden by default so finder wont see it. To see it in Finder, use the menu "Go->Go to folder" and type in ~/Library as the folder name. Then you can natigate to /Application Support/ etc....
That should help you determine if it's installed. Note, you may only find an alias in the plug-in folder and the programs may actually be stored elsewhere. Also, if the Plugin can be used for export as well as edit, it might be located in /Plug-Ins rather than /Plug-Ins/Edit
In terms of why it isn't working, I think I may have a clue to what's going on. Sometimes plugins use utilitly shell commands that get distributed with the plugin. These can get quarantined by Macs Gatekeep security because they are not signed by a 'valid' developer.
I've recently taken on the task of making the old Enfuse plugin compatible with the latest version of Aperture, and ran into this gatekeep quarantine issue. I got around it by de-quarantine the required commands and got the plugin working.
For distribution, I've put an AppleScript together which installs the plugin and takes care of the quarantine issue, but I am just (literally today) tesing that on a different machine to make sure it works the same as it does on mine.
If you can first confirm that hydra is installed in one of the above locations, I'll then talk you through how to check if there is a quarantine issue with it.

  • Masking plugin for Aperture?

I'm about to buy some kind of masking software.
I've been thinking about Fluid Mask but also Corel KnockOut as plug ins for PhotoShop.
Is there any masking solution for Aperture - like a plugin?

At this point in time there is no way to add new tools to Aperture via plugins. The SDK is for exporting only. Hopefully Apple will address this in a future release...

You possibly set up an auto-renewing subscription with the app - there are instructions on this page on how to manage them, including how to stop them : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4098
